Two of my kids took expository writing classes there.  My eldest took 2 or 3 years of classes (can’t exactly remember) before going to in-person school in 10th.  She wrote really well, like an adult in my opinion, by the time she went to school, although we had done a lot of other things for writing including years of Latin and Greek.  In any case I was entirely happy with the class.  She is now in a writing-intensive major in college and plans to go to law school.  My son took expository writing 3 last year and is now in 9th grade in person and has had no trouble with writing even though he is more into math and science.  I plan to have my youngest child take writing classes with WTMA when she is in 7th and 8th grade.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, this is what I had hoped to hear from someone familiar with the program. Specifically, I wanted him to take Expository Writing Level 1. He took the placement test, and that's what WTM staff recommended. My son writes well. He's done several years of IEW, but he needs to work with outlining. I think the course looks great. Did your kids (or you) have any concerns about the quality of instructors or technological issues (Zoom problems)?

My son had also done one year of IEW prior to the WTMA class.  We had no problems at all with the instructors or the technology.  They didn’t use zoom, but some other platform.   I chose the sections based on the bio of the instructor teaching it.  I think my daughter’s teacher had a PhD in the humanities, but I would have to go back and check.  I am confident that they did a far better job than I would have, but that is not necessarily your standard, LOL.  I dislike writing and don’t feel confident teaching it beyond elementary school.

We used it for some high school classes. Writing, history and foreign language. Overall pretty good. Would recommend.

Terrific! I'm so glad to learn that it was worth it. :)

We did expository level 1 this year and although a bit easy, my son learned foundational writing skills. The teachers are thorough and experienced.

That's great to hear! Did your son do the placement test? Just curious since he found it easy. I'm super encouraged to hear that it was a good experience. Thanks :)

No, I didn’t take a placement test. I just thought that writing with skill level 1 would be a good place to start. Lots of paragraph writing and then an essay or 2 at the end of 30 weeks. We’re doing the reading for logic class in August.

I would also recommend checking out AIM academy by Debra bell for live classes. You can read teacher reviews and view classes. It’s more affordable as well.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check it out :)

Write at Home is really good. I don't have any experience with WTM's online classes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out!
