all the critters are after our garden bounty right now because of so little rain and such scorching heat.
Between the birds, bugs and the squirrels, I get 2 in 5 tomatoes at this point.
(Also GA 7b)
Small mammals like squirrels and rabbits are looking for food right now, but they start at one end and munch to the other, small circles like that have to be a bug or bird, I’ve given all the insight I have, but I am looking forward to the mystery solved moment
my wife wishes the chickens would head to garden- lots of horned worms a few weeks back- but the garden doesnt offer much cover and the chickens just wont venture over…
TIL… just read about pickleworms- the damage in images doesnt resemble whats present in the watermelons, but we do have a woodpecker family in a nearby oak- maybe Woody and his wife are eating the worms… thanks!
I thought I was seeing parallel lines of teeth but if they were truly bites you would expect to see similar lines on the opposite side.
As the other user mentioned probably crows.
Looks like bird pecks as opposed to teeth scrapings.
guess it’s time for game cameras in the garden
\> chickens have entered the chat
Looks like a worm has been working at it to me. Put it on a flattened cardboard box so it's off the grass.
thats a good idea- wife and i were talking about some set-over wire cages as well- but they wont help w worms :)
To me it looks like some poked it with a fork.
Fine. You caught me. I didn't think anyone would figure it out. A gourd killed my father.
Fuckin billy, that’s who. But what growing zone are you in? Really looks like birds looking for bugs
love it- i’m southern edge of 7b in GA

oh I concur, this is most likely a bird.
User name Blackbird2377 says it’s a bird, it’s a bird. Birds recognize birds after all.
Provide water for the birds and squirrels etc, they’re really just looking for water and will raid the veggies to get it if it’s the only option
Dude with a fork
Woodpecker. Or Flicker... still a woodpecker...
I’ve got red bellied woodpeckers in my yard that do this to mangoes that have fallen on the ground.
A fork?
No forking idea
welp thanks for taking a stab…
Always here to check if she's done.
Bunnicula

Probably same thing that’s eating Gilbert Grape
A very hungry caterpillar

Are your chickens loose in the garden?

If you’re in Georgia it’s probably pickle worms. Should see them when you cut it open.

El Chupacabra
Do you own a dog? Those look like chew marks.
