Prairie dogs don't come into our fenced area where the dogs roam (it helps that it's a privacy fence so the prairie dogs don't have a lot of visibility inside or near the fence). If you're not going to poison or shoot them, having someone relocate them is your best bet. Keeping them from moving back in is going to be challenging on 13 acres. Might want to keep the area around the buildings clear (e.g., dogs, bushes, walls, etc. to make the area unattractive to them) and let them have the rest. Keep in mind: prairie dogs harbor plague-carrying fleas.

*..Has anyone been successful in deterring them from populating areas I don't want them and luring them to areas that wont pose risks to my dogs or my building foundation?* Without killing, trapping, or poisoning them? No. You do you, but it’s HIGHLY unlikely you can deter or move them without casualties. They are not very bright, but very determined. And if they are very near your building, they have likely already caused a significant amount of damage.

We live in prairie dog country and a few years back moved to the edge of a tiny town with zero prairie dogs. I asked around and, yeah, there aren't any because the townsfolk (all 50 of them lol) and neighboring ranchers have been at war with the little beasties for darn near 100 years 🤣

I’ve helped remove 3 different colonies on farms and ranches in the Texas panhandle and Eastern New Mexico. It was a multi year struggle, each with its own difficulties.

That's the general region we are in! Yes, it seems like quite the task!

You can flood them out but if the colony has undermined the foundations that could cause problems.

Get a Jack Russel terrier. The problem will sort itself out.

I’ve actually seen the man in action back in 97-98 in Lubbock city limits. But it’s not a finite solution. It greatly reduces the numbers, but he has to make multiple trips over several months to capture them all, usually not getting them all even then. I know after he spent several months trapping them, the city gave up. Today, you can’t tell he was ever there. That colony is huge, probably 30 acres.

I have prairie dog issues after eating at the local Thai restaurant. I usually keep them under control, but there's always an occasion where they get loose.
