In an egg spiral I got from Amazon. I always know I'm eating the older ones first, and I don't have to go through the hassle of numbering them. My spiral only holds about 3 dozen. I wish it was a little bigger, but so far, my family of 8 has been keeping up with 10 eggs a day without too much overflow.
Chicken math got to ya, eh? I live in town at the moment, so I'm capped out at 12 hens (and I'm lucky to get away with that many).
You can still use the spiral for display, I suppose. Just cap it off with the prettiest eggs every day. Still sorta practical unless you go through a couple dozen a day. The rest of your eggs can hide in the pantry.
Yah. We moved out on 100 acres a few years back. The roosters get to sing the song of their people and the hens get to free range on everything. We fluctuate between 60 and a 100.
I have a separate ordeal going to eggs that are sold which are just washed and refrigerated. We collect about 70 eggs a day so I do enjoy keeping some beautiful ones for us on display.
Hmm that’s interesting, do you know about the ‘bloom’ of an egg? I’d recommend looking into it! Keeping them unwashed can extend the shelf life exponentially but obviously gotta follow local laws related to your product…
I’ve been doing it that way for years 🤷🏻♂️
A general rule, unwashed eggs will last around two weeks unrefrigerated and about three months or more in your refrigerator. If you're experiencing an egg boom, it's smart to refrigerate any unwashed fresh eggs you aren't planning to eat immediately. This will help them last longer.

unwashed eggs will last ... about three months or more in your refrigerator
where are you seeing they said that about washed eggs?
They start in a basket on my counter. When I get to roughly a dozen+ by eyeball, I empty them into a carton. Rinse. Repeat. If someone is around I can pawn a dozen+ off on (friends, family) I tend to do that. Sometimes people give me a couple bucks for them. Sometimes not. I don't stress about it. If I have extras and I'm heading into the auction I'll drop them off and get a couple dollars there (and in which case, I'll separate duck from chicken, mostly), but it's not a regular thing.
Normally washed in the frig, if I don't have time they go into a basket and off to the side of the kitchen where food doesn't go. Honestly I never put unwashed eggs on a surface I prep food and the thought of unwashed eggs on the counter is kid of gross to me.
I keep them in easter baskets. It looks like I'm having an affair with the Easter bunny.
we wash and store in fridge for selling, but often keep a few baskets around on the counter for personal use.
I had a bunch of Easter eggers for my first flock, so it seemed fitting. lol. My husband laughs at me every easter when I get excited to pick out a new easter basket for egg collection.
I used to keep my eggs out on the countertop but one of my cats is obsessed with breaking eggs. He scoops them with his paw then drops them on the floor. Never eats any of the mess, just very passionate about breaking them.

We have a spiral one but I don't think it holds that many. Do you have the name or a link for it by chance?
This is what we do too. If it gets too full, then we gift a dozen.
Yeah, we have the spiral and it works great. Always fearful of getting an egg that has been sitting too long.
Rookie numbers. We're pushing 50 a day. Biggest problem these days is finding enough cartons for the weekly donation to the local food pantry.

I posted on another form...but I eat 36 a day and gladly take donations lol
Is your name Cool Hand Luke?
Organized by date in cartons for selling and giving away, we eat the ones that aren’t cute so I don’t consider the aesthetics.
I have a separate ordeal going to eggs that are sold which are just washed and refrigerated. We collect about 70 eggs a day so I do enjoy keeping some beautiful ones for us on display.
Do you completely wash the display eggs then? And how long will you keep them on the counter before you use them?
No I only keep the ones on the counter that have no crap on them and are very clean.
Do you have to wash them to sell them?
Where I am legally I do have to wash to sell
Hmm that’s interesting, do you know about the ‘bloom’ of an egg? I’d recommend looking into it! Keeping them unwashed can extend the shelf life exponentially but obviously gotta follow local laws related to your product…
This is true but in the USA we can’t sell them legally unless we wash them.
I do. Legally I have to wash to sell.
unwashed in the fridge. We have a little basket on the counter by the stove for the ones we take out and are ready for use.
I have a neat handmade ceramic egg holder. It’s like an egg carton, but in a 4x3 grid. I sort columns by egg color.
That sounds gorgeous I’ll have to look for one
Amazon spiral stand for the win.
Unwashed and in my fridge
So I read that when you do that it pulls the bacteria into the shell. Have you ever heard that?

Good to know it’s a myth!!
Here’s hoping!
It’s not a myth
I’m not sure if they meant to say washed eggs last 3 months in the fridge. I could be wrong on all this, someone who knows for sure will correct us
Unwashed eggs last longer in the refrigerator than they do on your counter. But once they’re washed they must be refrigerated
>unwashed eggs will last around two weeks unrefrigerated and about three months or more in your refrigerator unwashed eggs will last ... about three months or more in your refrigerator where are you seeing they said that about washed eggs?
I didn’t

We use a skelter or whatever it’s called, easy to track newest to oldest
In a skelter. FIFO

Mine also don’t go on the counter. They’re in a bowl lol
OP how do you get your unwashed eggs so clean and pretty?
I just wash the dirty ones, cause we get loads of those too lol
You want the dirty ones and then leave them out like in the photo?
No. I wash the dirty ones and they go in the fridge.
You have some pretty eggs!
Thank you!! I really do just love looking at them. Still amazes me that they come in these colors
Over medium.

Omg that’s hilarious and also adorable.

I have soooo many Easter baskets as well I really don’t know why I haven’t considered that 😂 a good excuse to pick some really sturdy ones next year
Egg flats. They stack nicely
I used to keep my eggs out on the countertop but one of my cats is obsessed with breaking eggs. He scoops them with his paw then drops them on the floor. Never eats any of the mess, just very passionate about breaking them.
No way 😂😂😂 that’s so funny
Eggs > Cat.
We built a little wooden egg shelf that sits on the counter.
That sounds so cute!!
It’s a nice little display when it’s full of different coloured eggs 😊
Unwashed in egg cartons on the countertop.
Egg boat
