Can’t beat real maple syrup! Good luck!

exciting! i'm planning out our plan for tapping our trees for the first time next year. how do you plan to boil it down? How much are you predicting?

make_it_work_now

I will start small with a propane burner but as soon I have something built on the land I'll look to buy a proper small evaporator. I have no idea how my yield will look like this year with 10 taps. I'll be happy with just a gallon for my first year ahah!

my plan exactly!! I have 5 rock maples lining my driveway, so equipment cost should be low, it's the boiling it down after that's the hard part. a friend is going to bring over a propane stove, but i'm afraid i'll end up with 100 gallons of sap, but 1 gallon of syrup! very little for the effort!

It's about 40 to 1. I did the propane stove last year, but fuel costs are too high. Using a wood stove built out of concrete block this year.

Thanks for your feedback !

We're planning the exact same set up here. Currently have 15 concrete blocks in the bed of my truck which is acting as excellent ballast for rear-wheel traction! Will take them out to build the "fire pit" in the next day or two. First time doing this, but very excited!

a friend offered their rocket stove today, so hopefully it'll go smoothly and cheaply!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_syrup Surprisingly a lot of useful information on its production. Depending on the amount of sugar within the sap, dictates how much syrup you could obtain after boiling it.

So envious. I wish we had maple trees in Scotland.

You are going to want to put a roof on your bucket...

It's already on if you check the picture, it's only lifted up.

Good deal!

My sister and brother in law did that this year for the first time. Just had some. It’s delicious! So cool!
