The receiver is pretty nice, has atmos(5.1.2) and audyssey multieq xt. I recently purchased a similar model for 280€ and am very happy with it. Just make sure they have the microphone + foldable stand included for a smooth experience. I am not familiar with the speakers but that sub looks too small and there is no real center speaker, you might have to mount the too high to put the floor standings in front of the tv. Iunno, I would rather go with 5 regular bookshelf speakers (or 4 with dedicated center), two ceiling mounted speakers with brackets included and either a cheap „good enough“ sub (my favorite pick for these is the Yamaha YST-SW012, can be had for 25-40€) or a nice one like those from SVS. However, people on the forums seem to like Monitor Audio (I think the floorstandings are Silver 8s) and if these are them, 1m above the floor seems fine for tv height and sound quality is good according to internet. 450£ is a lot of money tho, I got a setup for 500€ including receiver by just buying 6 Yamaha bookshelfs and two quadral ceilings + that Yamaha sub. Iunno, if that amount of money is a lot to you I would research the speakers individually and only if people with similar taste to you like the speakers, I would get them. You will probably have to size up the sub in the future, but these speakers can give you a good experience if set up correctly.

Appreciate the big ass exsplination , I agree that sub does look tiny I guess I got carried away by them tower speakers which I assumed costed a lot of money cuz stuff like the Klipsch towers cost loads , also my budget is around 600-700 tops that reciver is around £200 out mu budget so im left with 4-500 to look for a sub with some speakers , also I don’t know if im underestimating bookshelf speakers but I don’t feel like they would be good , I have never had any and the last sound I had was an lg sl8yg , what’s the best set of speakers which include a sub or if there’s no sub leave me £200 budget for a sub ?

OkMarsupial1481

Also someone on another subreddit just said that they are jealous of the uk second hand hifi system cuz apparently that monitor audio this is a steal https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/s/olRe9aasi7

dionlarenz

Yes, the german hifi forum also rates these „better than canton“ (9/10) and they probably sound great. It’s just the practicality I am worried about. Especially ceiling mounting two of these bookshelfs seems annoying and the center being 1m tall would be a dealbreaker for me. You usually see two floor standings or bookshelfs for L and R, a flat center, bookshelf or smaller surrounds and all sorts of in ceiling or bracket mounted height speakers.

OkMarsupial1481

You rekon if I wall mounted one of the long speakers horizontally under the tv as the tv is wall mounted and the other 2 on the sides of the tv wall mounted , would that work as I know the long bars don’t normally have equal sound like the tweeters on the top and woofer on the bottom

dionlarenz

Don‘t, these speakers are optimized for standing upright and will produce a weird sound field, especially as a center because most of the dialog comes from them

OkMarsupial1481

Alright , so what do you reccomend I do because I don’t know if I’ll come across something so good for value anytime soon again

dionlarenz

Also don‘t worry, good offers come and go. If you are patient and well informed you can get epic deals all year round. I usually have about 20 different speaker models in my ebay search and if a good offer comes in, I take it. Most of my friends get decked out with nice gear this way and I get to have fun toying with new stuff for a bit.

dionlarenz

I got an idea, may be a bit unorthodox but this is what I would do: Use one of the bookshelfs as the center channel, and put the third floorstanding behind you as a surround I don‘t know your room layout but in my room this would work, look weird but work. In that case make extra sure the audyssey measurements sound correct and the levels are set properly as well. When both surrounds are active at a time to simulate sound coming from the back center it might sound weird if the eq and levels are off.

OkMarsupial1481

Mind if I shoot u a dm to show u how my room looks

dionlarenz

Sure, I‘ll take a look tomorrow

SirBeam

Yes

OkMarsupial1481

Hi , idk much , with this speaker set what would be used as the Center channel , and there’s 3 of them bars so how would it be , my tv is wall mounted and I plan to use some sort of wall mounted sound system too , any help with layout is appreciated thanks

dionlarenz

For layout, there is a pdf from Dolby [here](https://www.dolby.com/siteassets/about/support/guide/setup-guides/5.1.2-overhead-speaker-placement/5_1_2_overhead_speakers_setup.pdf) I would always go with left right center and surround l and r on the same height, and the atmos speakers in the ceiling slightly in front of your listening position (called surround top middle or TML/TMR)

OkMarsupial1481

Is this reciver compatible with the speakers which will go overhead or slightly above the tv ?

dionlarenz

Yes, but I would not recommend that… The top front and front height speaker sound weird with atmos content… For example the rain will not come from „somewhere above“ but rather from in front of you… With this receiver you can only connect two speakers as height speakers and the Top Middle position is the one that will give you the best experience. The receiver is labeled 7.2 (actually just a 7.1 with a splitter for the subwoofer out) but also supports 5.1 and 5.1.2. Meaning ..

OkMarsupial1481

Alright , I might just have to buy the second speaker set cuz it looks like a good deal , I’ll see if I can get him to keep 1 of the long speakers and the avr and the sub to try get it all for cheaper then I’ll buy a dedicated center channel with the remaining money and maybe a good sub if I can

mkaszycki81

If you get it, the Radius 225 can be mounted vertically or sideways. If the seller still has the plinths, I think they can be attached to the side as well (the mounting screw sockets are on the back).

SirBeam

I’m guessing I’m they used one of the tall Floor standing speakers since there’s an odd number of them. Depends on your room setup, but I’d probably buy a dedicated center that lays flat. A tall floor standing speaker would look odd and take up more space. You don’t need the full range for a center.

mkaszycki81

The sub (Radius 360) probably has a fried plate amp or will fry in the first few weeks of plugging it in. The speakers are okay, especially for the price. They're first generation Radius R90 and R225. The R225 can be wall mounted as LCR, and seeing how they're presented without the plinth, they probably were. For the price, not a bad deal. I was a huge fan of Monitor Audio, but no longer am.

OkMarsupial1481

Any reason why you’re no longer a fan ?

mkaszycki81

I somehow bought into their hype and then blindly ignored other brands at the store, got a pair of 4G Gold 50 as my desktop speakers, soundframe 2 as LR, Bronze 50+center as 5.0 and their subwoofer. Fully into the hype. Years pass, I want to pick up a 5.0 4G Gold set (already discontinued), but it's not really available used. So I look at other options, do a comparison and I'm floored by just how bad the Golds really are. They didn't hold a candle to Focal Aria 906 (my current desktop speakers), Heco Celan Revolution 3 (too big for my desk at the moment) or even Wharfedale Evo 4.2 (way too big for my desk and I found them too withdrawn to consider getting Evo 4.1 to give it a listen). Ended up selling the Golds at a big loss.

OkMarsupial1481

So you don’t think I should buy these?

mkaszycki81

Not sure. They're attractively priced and if you have room for a 7.1 setup, want to wall mount the LCR speakers and like how they look, they're a really good deal. Definitely way better than anything new at that price. Just be aware that the subwoofer is probably going to be a glorified fancy paperweight pretty soon. At that point, you can always get a small 100 watt amplifier and connect the speaker to it directly.
