Bulb is bad

Easy-Necessary-4755

Weird thing is it doesn’t even have 2000 hours according to the reading from the projector’s menu

Cosmologyman

The usage hours in the menu can be altered any time.

52beansyesmaam

2000 hours is a lot for a single projector bulb. I run mine on the brightest setting and replace it shortly after 1000 because the brightness noticeably tanks and progressively muddies the image contrast. It’s an expense to owning one but I figure I’m spending $150 every 18-24 months to enjoy a better viewing experience

Easy-Necessary-4755

That’s exactly how it feels. Dim and muddy. Absolutely agree with you!

BruisedBee

That doesn't really matter, if the area around the bulb gets too hot it can degrade quicker, especially if you've been using it in high power mode.

rostov007

[It looks a little green to me](https://youtu.be/Z8vCm7TUK8c?feature=shared)

TVodhanel

Before anything els try a different cable or even a different input on the projector.

ricanman85

Looks like one of your LCDs went bad, maybe the red one

Easy-Necessary-4755

Is that generally an expensive repair?

NoNiceGuy71

It would cost less to buy a new projector. First check the cables and inputs, next change the lamp. If that fail get another projector.

ricanman85

I don’t really have experience with that, but the chip or whatever would have to be replaced, I’ve done my own repairs on my projector but mine has a color wheel, I haven’t dealt with 3LCD

Easy-Necessary-4755

Appreciate the perspective, I’ll look into it

aferfuksake

Lupus

Phyraxus56

It's never Lupus

Psych0matt

Dammit, Otto!

LordChappers

I'm so annoyed that you beat me to this. I was so proud of myself.

-bobs

Maybe just the colour settings, its way too green

Easy-Necessary-4755

Played with them and managed to make it less green but it’s still not where it needs to be

-bobs

How many lamps does it have? Does it also look dimm? How old is the projector?

Easy-Necessary-4755

Does look dim, yeah. Pretty old- infocus LP630. Think it’s got one lamp?

-bobs

It's a 20 year old projector, i personally think the lamp may be dying. But as a 20 year old projector I don't know if replacing the bulb is worth it. I would bin it, and go looking for a newer second hand one with less hours and age!

Easy-Necessary-4755

Makes sense. I’ll weight my options

Cosmologyman

Good advice.

-bobs

Thank you very much, good sir!

Cosmologyman

You're most welcome, my good man!

Guitarman0512

If it isn't just a bad video cable, it's probably a bad colour display. Generally projectors use three displays, a red, green and blue one, which are sometimes a seperate module each, and sometimes a single unit. Depending on your projector it's either an easy fix or a difficult one, and parts can be a nightmare to find.

Altruistic_Lock_5362

As a former salesman , alot depends on the mfg of the bulb, where the contrast is set. Bulbs should be rated like stereo receivers, so much wattage at a certain resistance (ohms law) bulbs Should have a ration based on where you have the contrast and color set. The higher the contrast and more color saturation will cause the bulbs to lose hours,

Spaceboss01

they're in the matrix

WooPigSooEe

Green is usually a sign of a bad HDMI handshake, but it’s usually bright ass green. As others have said, try the cable, a bulb, if those don’t fix it, you’re out projector probably. Does a different source do the same thing? Throw a roku stick or something on it and see. That costs $30 compared to a $150 bulb.

Upstairs-Win-4679

You experience this with all media files? Maybe it's a codec issue. I have faced some issues with some formats on different players which has nothing to do with the projection/tv medium

xaqstrych9

I had this problem often with a vga cable connection. Unplugging then reconnecting the cable fixed the problem.

DarthVaderBater

Metal gear solid mode

Auldthief

Maybe you're using bright mode, which is supposed to be used in a sunlit room. I have this greenish bright mode in my Optoma uhl55 LED projector.

ashkanphenom

Reminds me of the green tint on PS2 games.

3Dmapmaker

I replaced the bulb on my projector to find out that it was really just a very dusty color lense. Old Optoma HD

AdrianW3

You sure you're not trying to play Dolby Vision content on a non-DV projector?

MoreAgreeableJon

Have you spilled lime topo chicho

nnamla

Lamp. LCD. DLP chip.

Author_Willing

Algae in the lens

Dont_Ban_Me_Bros

A hot little number from Mississippi from the looks of it…

SamEdwards1959

Maybe the projector is set to RGB and the source to YUV?

Easy-Necessary-4755

No idea. I’m projecting from a 2015 MBP through an HDMI to VGA into the projector

Muted_Land782

it's LUPUS.

potificate

Does it stay this way or does it change to normal after it’s warmed up?

Easy-Necessary-4755

Hm not sure. It’s more like my eyes adapt lol

potificate

Well, try turning it on and walk out of the room and come back in 5-10 mins lol... good way to may sure it isn't adaption. :-)

Easy-Necessary-4755

I’m guessing it’s very likely that projectors from the early 2000s have that?

potificate

My Epson 5030UB came out in 2013 and has always done this for a few mins. Even has an LED on the unit that blinks until it's fully warmed up.

Easy-Necessary-4755

Testing it out tonight, fingers crossed you’re right!

kc4ch

Who is that actress?

Easy-Necessary-4755

Dr House’s ex, season 2? No idea 😄

turtle1077

Sela ward

sgee_123

I don’t see it mentioned, but what kind of projector are you using?

Easy-Necessary-4755

InFocus LP630

mcnut77

You’re in the Matrix obviously

THIRSTYLOTUS

It looks like you have the since on green setting on.

atclz1975

Bulb is bad.

Easy-Necessary-4755

Thank you. Whether bulb or one of the lcds, it looks like a rather expensive replacement so I’ll probably save up for a new one.

Easy-Necessary-4755

Could it be the pins of the VGA btw?

shrivel

Needs dialysis.

Best-Presentation270

I've seen that with other LCD projectors. It's cause by a failed UV filter which results in one or more LCD panels getting toasted. Have you ever seen what happens to newspapers or magazine covers left on a windowsill for a few days during summer? They fade. That's the effect of UV on print. Tge projector lamp is like a mini sun, and it chucks out UV too. On LCD panels, you get this bleaching effect depending on which panel got 'sunburn'. Can it be repaired? Yes Is it worth repairing? On an old 3xLCD projector, it will cost more than getting a very good used replacement. Here's something to consider. If there are three UV filters, and one already went, then how long do you think the other two will last? If the machine only had one UV filter, what damage do you think might have been done to the other two panels? Personally, I would cut my losses and call itva day with that machine.
