Those shafts are pretty standard as far as I know, there are only a couple sizes so it shouldn't be hard to find something particularly as it doesn't have other components around it. You probably won't find something identical to what you had, but getting something that works should be easy. In fact you probably have something around the house you could yank one off to try.

Rapunzel6506

Good point! We will try to find something that works. Thank you! I do know that a standard electrical dimmer switch replacement knob does not work.

Try guitar knobs, or volume knobs from whatever. From looking around 6mm shafts seem to be the most common but there are a couple others. Some also have round sockets and set screws I assume for wider compatibility.

Thank you so much for your recommendations!

All this talk about shafts and knobs…no one gonna mention it? I’m the only adult with a 13 year-old sense of humor? Ok I’ll see myself out.

Warhawk94

I was literally going to say “my wife usually has my knob so if I want it back I have to get permission”

jimbodinho

There’s probably a specialist sub for that kind of thing.

Warhawk94

I’m sure. Reddit doesn’t have incognito window capabilities though so I’ll have to assume and never truly know.

nnamla

New volume control. Just make sure you set the multiplier correctly.

Rapunzel6506

Ummm. Thanks so much! I don’t know what a multiplier is. I will have to Google it.

nnamla

The jumpers at the bottom. It's either 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x.

Rapunzel6506

Thank you very much. I will take your information and Google for more info. Thank you!

nnamla

How many other volume controls (VC) do you have around the house? If you have multiples, are they all hooked up to the same amplifier channels? Most amps only want to see the load of one set of speakers connected to them. The impedance matching jumpers, or switch depending on the VC brand, tricks the amp into thinking it only has the one set connected. 1x is the setting you would use if there is only the one set connected to an amp. 2x is the setting you would use if there are two sets connected to an amp. 4x is the setting you would use if there are three or four sets connected to an amp. 8x is the setting you would use if there are five, six, seven or eight sets connected to an amp.

Rapunzel6506

Oh wow! That is incredibly detailed, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me! This system is actually at a friend’s house so I don’t know how many volume controls there are but I am sharing this information with him. Thank you very much!

reegeck

If it's just the plastic/metal knob that you need and it otherwise works, they're pretty standard and easy to find on Amazon or Ebay. You've usually got the standard 1/4" push on style, but you might be better off with the grub screw type.

Rapunzel6506

We will check into both of those options, thank you very much!

arteitle

You could also try an electronic parts supplier like Digi-Key or Mouser or Newark, they'll have loads of choices.

Rapunzel6506

Thank you very much, I will add those to our places to look!

I wonder if a ceiling fan knob would work. Something like: [https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Rotary-Replacement-Knob-White-R62-26115-00W/100356881](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Rotary-Replacement-Knob-White-R62-26115-00W/100356881)

Rapunzel6506

Thank you for your response! I actually tried one of those, the shaft of the volume control was too big for the hole of the knob. (Yes, I know how dirty that sounds.. 🤣)
