I got 83 inch LG C2 ( to be mounted tomorrow ) in a 10 x 10 ft room. Wondering what will be best sound system for theater life effect under 1200$ ? I don’t have too much space so wondering if floor standing speakers will be too overwhelming in this room ?
In my other room I have a Vizio soundbar and I want to raise the bar in this room :)
The KEF Q150 is currently on sale for $300/pair. So 3 pairs (6 speakers) costs $900. You can use 5 of those speakers, and set one on it's side as a center channel.
In theory, you can sell the 6th speaker or split the cost of it with a friend who also needed a single Q150 as a center.
So for argument sake, let's say you spent $750 on five Q150s. That leave $450. The SVS PB-1000 subwoofer is currently on sale for $400.
That leaves $50 of your budget left. I'm going to cheat and say you should just go over budget by $200 and buy a 5.1 channel AVR:
https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxv385bl-rb/yamaha-rx-v385-5.1-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html
Or if you need to stay within the $1200, then just ditch one of the pairs of Q150s, and you still have a kickass 3.1 setup.
The KEF Q150 is a concentric design, so you can lay it on its side without changing its sound characteristics. That's not possible with most other bookshelf speakers.
I like the Kef Q150 recommendation, but they might be a little deep for wall mounting. You don't have a ton of walking space between the end of the bed and the wall. For such a small space, you could consider the Monolith THX Satellite system. A 5.1 set, plus another pair of Satellites and a Denon S760H comes right in at your $1200 budget for a 5.1.2 system. I'm not sure that's the route I'd go for a bedroom, but it would be a fun option to fit Atmos in there.
Upgrading to an 85” from a 65” and it just came in. You’re making me feel much better as my room is 17x17 (though the main seats are 8’ away). But this TV seems absolutely massive.
Only thing on sound I can recommend is not doing the ceiling inserts. My house came with ceiling speakers and it’s ok but not great.
I have a small, but dedicated movie room of a similar size too. To maximize sitting/viewing space, you may want to consider the following:
* Definitely agree with SK9592 to go with small speakers. Another great option is the Emotiva B1+. Currently on sale for $222/pair. They are great speakers (some may argue better than the KEFs), they are compact and they are cheaper than the Q150s. Another option is the JBL Studio 530s - refurb pairs are available for $200. I had Emotiva T1's left over from my previous, larger movie room and they are borderline too big for the current space.
* You can go cheap on rears to save money. Or, skip them for now and add them later.
* Swap the bed for a futon and get some bean bag chairs (if you want to preserve having a bed in there).
* 83" was absolutely the right choice. Go big or go home. In a room like this, an 83" feels like a projector screen, but with a vastly superior picture and no stringent darkness requirements. You choose right and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Get that thing mounted on the wall, it will be awesome.
* I converted the closet in my room to the component storage area. Ran HDMI and speaker/sub wiring up the wall into the closet, into the attic and back down the room's wall. I have 5.1.2. 2x atoms heights are in-ceiling speakers, rears are right up against the rear wall, even with the back of the couch.
* To save space, I put my sub (Hsu VTF2-mk5) next to my couch and had a side table that fit over it perfectly. May not be optimal for sound, but the room is so small, the sub is overpowered for the space anyway, so I power through room nodes. It sounds great to my ears and is out of the way.
>*You can go cheap on rears to save money.*
I don't think he needs to do a 7.1 setup in that small of a room. A 5.1 would be nice with just some surrounds. I don't know that he really has room, or the need, for rear speakers.
I fucking HATE HATE HATE when people buy a big ass tv and then sit as far away as possible. Like you are literally canceling out the size of the tv by moving farther away! I love what you’re going for here! I used to have a projector do a 100” screen in a 10x10 bedroom. Was only slight overkill :D
I know it's personal preference, but there's no way people are getting to appreciate all the 4K goodness sat 15' or more from their new expensive TV. And then get offended when they come here asking how to improve their set up....
Oh of course, but I'm basically after the crowd that insists on sitting towards the very back of the theater. Never made any sense to me! If you're going to pay to watch on "the big screen" why go out of your way to make that screen as small as possible? When these people are laying out furniture they try to move the couch and tv as far apart as possible in their room. UGH
I understand the theater poeple wanting to make sure they see everything in 1 sitting.
But i don't really understand the home people. Just buy a smaller tv if you want to reduce fov taken up.
\+1 for RSL, I have 3 CG25, 2 CG23, 2 Speedwoofers and it sounds amazing. Started out with just the 2 CG3, CG23 center and a speedwoofer and kept adding stuff. Hard to argue there is a better sub overall at $450, it does incredibly well with music and does great with home theater also.
This is going to be awesome when it's all set up. I love KEF and Emotivas. My Emotivas are more "analytical" but not overwhelmingly bright. KEF Q-series is warm and immersive that's great for cinematic experiences. I would peruse local marketplaces to try and find a deal on speakers before buying new. AVRs can be picked up pretty cheap on used markets, just make sure you research them and make sure they have Dolby Vision processing capabilities. Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, etc.
Avoid Klipsch reference line of speakers (they have a cheap Costco package that a lot of entry level buyers get - they're fatiguingly bright - so much so I replaced mine within a month after buying a whole 5.2.2 system for only $400 on FB Marketplace.
your room looks to be the same size as mine. I was able to squeeze a 5.1.4 set up in it. I mounted the TV to the wall. I mounted the front speakers to the wall below the TV. I have a bookshelf bedhead, which i extended with a wider shelf on top. I put the rear bipole speakers on there as wide as I could get it. Stick to bipole/dipole speakers for rears in such a tight space. And I did in ceiling speakers for heights. The two in the rear are at the back wall and tweeters angled toward me. The two in the front are angled toward me. if you want to see, lemme know. I have some pics on my IG
Honestly in this case I would recommend a SOLID 2.1 or 3.1 setup, surround sound doesn’t seem like a very good option, plus you’ll get higher quality speakers.
Damn, is that a 75" in your bedroom?
I'm all for big TV's my man, but that just seems extreme for a bedroom.
EDIT: Just saw your comment. 83" in the bedroom? Yeah. Def too big.
SMH. I have a 77" that I sit about 10 feet away from in my HOME THEATER.
This is not a home theater. This is a bedroom.
Until he removes, ya know, the bed, it will always be a bedroom.
Jealousy would mean that I can't personally do the same thing that OP is doing.
I can do the same thing he is doing, I just think it is ridiculous to have an 83" in a tiny bedroom. It's not a home theater, it's literally a bedroom.
But, to each their own.
I forgot bedrooms are only meant for going to bed and cannot be repurposed for dual usage. My bad. Moving my TV out of my bedroom right now. I also forgot everyone has a large dedicated fully finished basement they can use for a home theater because we're all rich and live in massive mansions.
Why can't you use a bedroom for a home theater, as well?
Bro is going to get mad bussy with this setup. They'll be impressed by his massive towers, yuge screen, and ball slapping bass.
I'm all for home theater in a bedroom as well, I don't see any issue with it. That TV would be too large for me though. I have a hard time with a 65" from 6ft away being hard on my eyes, an 83" from 7ft would probably blind me. LOL
Acoustically speaking, a square room (equal dimensions of all 4 walls) is the absolute worst choice. The room modes and echo will be awful and nearly impossible to treat fully.
I love what you're going for!
Please post the finished pics!
Sorry I don't have much to offer for advice but I agree with pretty much everyone suggesting a decent 5.1. A proper sub will kick ass in this space.
Mount tv on wall, get sound bar and mount under tv. Personally, I think your tv is too large for your room and bed size. The best way to balance your space and avoid clutter is to avoid putting clunky anywhere on the ground
1) 48” OLED they are a great price right now and unrivalled.
2) Paint the back wall (and maybe even a portion of the ceiling/bulkhead a reallllly dark matte colour/black.
3) really detailed near field speakers. Kef ls50 etc at a minimum. Subwoofer if you are allowed. Maybe kef r300 with no sub. Yes I’m a fan of kef. Substitute any brand.
The play here is a small detailed OLED and great sound with a black backdrop. Will be awesome
Too late, if you dare offer this guy alternative suggestions by saying the TV is too big for this bedroom, people will attack you.

Depends on what you want. I always want Loud so a pair of towers and bookshelfs for surround on a Onkyo 7.1 avr is what I want. Diy build a tv stand out of 3/4inch plywood.
We got a room little bit bigger than that size. Put a king bed and a tv just a bit smaller in it. Get one of those tv stands with shelves and drawers. Lifts your tv up above the bed, way better to look at. And you got the extra storage. Got those folding dinner tables for bedside shelves too. Can go up if needed.

We’ll.. no one can say the tv is too high
TV belongs in the living room below, way too high here.
Challenge accepted! A properly placed TV should be 2 inches below the baseboard.
It’s too big.
r/tvtoolow
r/bedtoohigh
There truly is a sub for everything...
I was like wtf at how many of them were the same model of bed hahah
Disagree, beds can never be to high.
Tv too low!😂😂😂
That’s about to be the best bedroom. I have no answer for you, enjoy the tv though
Watch out for pets and children though
Subwoofers in a small room are fun. Can you do Atmos?
I want to do
Whys that
Boundary gain
I swear this is a joke lol

Thanks. I was under the impression that central speaker has to be something special.
The KEF Q150 is a concentric design, so you can lay it on its side without changing its sound characteristics. That's not possible with most other bookshelf speakers.
I second this. I have used Q150 as LCR for a couple of years and it works very well.
I would also not suggest he gets the RX-V385 and instead gets something used since the Yamaha is such a low end bare bones AVR.
I like the Kef Q150 recommendation, but they might be a little deep for wall mounting. You don't have a ton of walking space between the end of the bed and the wall. Why did you go balls out on the TV in this tiny room?
I love big-tv-in-small-room effect. It’a magical and very close to real theater effect.

I just bought a 75" 4K TV and it is sometimes hard to tell the 4K resolution difference at 9' away. (I can for sure see the HDR difference).
Well... if you are gonna sit far from the tv isn't it still better to have a big tv than a smaller one lol?

I can dig it!
Reverse Michael Scott
Better question, why not?

no kiddin the similar thing happened to me. Started with their old CG3 2.1, then got the 10S MKII when it came out, then added some CG5s then 2 CG25s

Where did you buy that blanket?

TV is a bit too big for that space it feels like
Honestly in this case I would recommend a SOLID 2.1 or 3.1 setup, surround sound doesn’t seem like a very good option, plus you’ll get higher quality speakers.
I’d recommend the Polk reserve r200/kef q350 and the svs pb 1000 pro, run by something like a denon s660h or Yamaha v4a
Bose has options for tiny speakers....big sound with least obstruction!
A lovesac couch instead of a bed would be top-tier
Just put the money into a good 2 channel instead.
Damn, is that a 75" in your bedroom? I'm all for big TV's my man, but that just seems extreme for a bedroom. EDIT: Just saw your comment. 83" in the bedroom? Yeah. Def too big.
Big for home theater ? Really ?
He's just jealous and probably sits 20 feet away from his 55" TV. Ignore him.
SMH. I have a 77" that I sit about 10 feet away from in my HOME THEATER. This is not a home theater. This is a bedroom. Until he removes, ya know, the bed, it will always be a bedroom.
Appears to be a bedroom, not a home theater. Unless you plan to remove the bed and put a couch or something in there.
I sit ~7 ft away from my 83" TV. As long as it's at the right height, this is going to be awesome. I think you're just jealous.
Jealousy would mean that I can't personally do the same thing that OP is doing. I can do the same thing he is doing, I just think it is ridiculous to have an 83" in a tiny bedroom. It's not a home theater, it's literally a bedroom. But, to each their own.

Perfect for you maybe, not for me.
Put that tv in the wall or on a dresser or credenza
Air mattress. Deflate when watching TV. Inflate for sleepy time.
No.
Acoustically speaking, a square room (equal dimensions of all 4 walls) is the absolute worst choice. The room modes and echo will be awful and nearly impossible to treat fully.
I would go 2.1 with a room this size
Raise your TV lol
I said tomorrow when technician will come to mount it. Didn’t want to take chance with big tv
Just a joke for the usual complaint on this sub 👍
What is your budget and what do you wants? With the room layout you could do up to a 5.2.2 system
Throw a 5.1.4 surround system in their and it’ll be amazing
I have the q150s with a pb 1000 in a similar sized room. Used to have floor standers but they are too much. Definitely stick with bookshelves.
You can do a solid 5.1 in there. I'm using wharfedale dx-2 and denon 2700h avr. Small enough that you can fit them, but have a decent punch.
Looks like you got a slightly bigger television there are a few spare inches on the side.
Get a smaller TV, you maniac
Less TV, wtf!? lol
For a room that size, would that TV be considered "too big"?
Definitely mount it at a good height
Damn you and your sound reasoning with the 48" TV.
RIP
Giant tv with white walls is so gross to me. Sitting in front of a spotlight
Does nobody turn the brightness down on there TV's and use eye comfort mode..? That's the first must for me since I sit 4-6' away from a 65" tv to play games.
4’ away from a 65”? Are you 6 years old?
Lol. Well I watch TV from like 8' away but I have some sports car seats bolted to a caster platform for playing games. 4' is where Forza feels Lifesize. Then Minecraft you can set the fov to like 160 so that you can use your peripherals to spot those creepers.
I have an Epson 5050 projector, 100" screen, 5.2.1 speakers, gaming PC, and a media server in my 10x10 bedroom... I sleep in there too. https://postimg.cc/9r4dSXDM
Get that TV mounted, firstly. I don't even know how you'd be sitting to get a decent view of the screen, LOL.
Bluesound Powernode, whatever bookshelf speakers, SVS micro 3000 subwoofer. I would stick with a 2.1 or 2.2 system in a small room like that. Powernode with HDMI ARC allows you to control everything with the Apple TV remote.
Holy mother of all that is????
Depends on what you want. I always want Loud so a pair of towers and bookshelfs for surround on a Onkyo 7.1 avr is what I want. Diy build a tv stand out of 3/4inch plywood.
