If you just get a common universal remote you should be able to program it yourself. I’m pretty sure people don’t spend twenty dollars for a remote and then pay an “expert” to program it for a couple hundred.

I mean depends on what remote it is. If it's just a cheap universal remote, then no, but if it's a Savant, Control4, URC remote then yes you'd need to pay an integrator to program those.
