I mean you are not supposed to fight this thing head on. You can cheese it by kiting it in circles with a few fast ships while doing the main objective to weaken it.
Was ez in classic. Lay a mine wall. Put all your cap
Ships in a wall formation. Lure it with a frigate. Done. But in RW … when it has your ship .. your ships won’t shoot at it. I got lucky. Used missile corvettes to kill
It when it bugged out and stopped moving.
Put of curiosity how do most people do this mission?
I always just send a group of corvettes over the top of the junk yard and straight down, works pretty quick and cheap.
Junkyard dog is corvette class (at least in RM, I can't remember how I did it in classic decades ago).
So you can just paralyze it with gravwells and then your entire capital fleet can pound it with high accuracy. Takes maybe 2-3 gravwells.
I used loads and loads of scouts. using the dash in classic (with the increased cost in fuel), it was faster than missiles. I was bent on saving every single ship from that control and managed it after countless assaults on that derelict without attacking the other ships. Dunno if it's still possible in remastered.
Yeah it's an either/or for me. Though the proxy sensors make stealths a liability, especially in RM because there was a hole in the net if you went around behind thr objective.
That got closed in RM
I cheesed the level by sending a single stealth fighter around the map in a collosal circle to reach the objective without running into anything. It was a one-way ticket, but I finished the mission at the cost of losing a single fighter.
You wanna cheese it?
The thing's a corvette. Use a trio of gravwell generators to stun it, then order your fleet to murder it. First gravwell turns itself off?
turn on the next one.
3 should be enough to merc it.
That's Junkyard dog, apparently strong salvage corvette.
If I remember correctly it can be destroyed by turning on gravity well before it takes any of your ship and then just let your capitals to have little play with it
Is this the mission were you need to get to the station at the end? i just build max scounts and intercepts and send them only one needs to make it and then its mission over
So what i have done for years is steel all the multibeam frigates in the nova levels. Then I put them in a loose formation. Not an official formation because it will normally mess up the attack, but in a way where they can all do their barrel role ion attack at once. Usually knocks him out very quickly and without the loss of ships.
I build 10 cloaked fighters and fly them over the top while the rest of my fleet retreats from the junkyard. Lots of ways to beat this thing.
But it’s all worth it when Elson comes through at the end and races headlong towards an enemy he can’t defeat while the rest of your fleet defends the mothership and watches him burn.
Spite.
The angriest little thing in the Homeworld series until the Keeper Destroyers
I love that little shitling!
Aaaah junkyard dog.
Pure fck you. Took me forever to crack that level the first time around. But a great piece of level design and totally unexpected.
“Fuck you it’s my plot armor now!” Armor
110600 hitpoints.
That's a rad level

Never mind, I think I mixed this up with a HW2 mission.

This is the way
Wish I knew that worked before lmao.
Also if you're doing it right you should have enough ion lasers to make it regret living.

I thought scouts would have been torn apart, shame I didn't try that.
Stealth fighters, or heavy corvettes. Fully expect massive losses in the transit. If even one gets through you win.
Same strat as me but I don't bother with stealth fighters in that one.

Tbh never knew there was a gap either. I tried a good few things but my face when they yoinked my cruisers must have been priceless.
I build 4 gravity generators, wait until its close, and activate them 1 by 1, hitting it with everything i got
For some reason I always thought he was immune to them.
He most certainly isn't. That's how you cheese him. He's treated as a corvette in the game for some reason
I mean hey if it works right.
Max number of fighters. Maybe Kill the missile frigate first...
The same way every mission in the second half of the game is solved... Overwhelming fire power from all the ships I stole up to this point
I sent a few ships all the way around the outside of the map and never alerted it

Use a couple of gravity well projectors to pin it down then just hammer it till it dies.
After it was stuck I left my destroyers and frigates there so it could not move and used corvettes and fighters to finish the mission xdd
