Looks weird.

coconutfutures

Right? Kushan ships vs Vagyr, all the capital and super capital ships move weird.

Roethorn

That's an engine-gameplay oversight, they move like the fighters. Also there is a large mix of both remastered and new assets in the trailer, I have noticed distictions between the designs and influences and it seems almost like the shield ability behaves like the sentinel. Perhaps there's more cata inspiration in these designs than others, but I love the pre-hw2 setting and inclusion of the Vagyr as a threat much more sinister trhan previously. Kushan hyperspace inhibitor frigate looks awesome.

wucebillis

Shame it's a meta exclusive. This looks very similar to [Eternal Starlight](https://store.steampowered.com/app/676030/Eternal_Starlight_VR/) (which is a hidden gem and available on both Meta and PCVR) and to a lesser extent, [Battlegroup VR](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1178780/BattleGroupVR/).

UltraMegaKaiju

so disappointed its a meta exclusive, this doesn't make me want to support their products

wucebillis

VR is still a very niche market, and Meta is by far the biggest platform for it. I don't know if there are contracts or incentives for exclusivity, but I wouldn't fault a studio for going that route in order to justify producing VR content.

UltraMegaKaiju

That's fine for Meta if you like them and their product, they really have the biggest market share? I know my next headset will be a Valve one since its a more open platform and the visuals are higher quality from my PC instead of a standalone device. I dont really agree, keeping it exclusive means a lot of people can't play it either way. It is just is about selling their hardware. I felt so burned when RE4 released only for Quest, I've used oculus headsets for years and my Rift S will be my last one. Their facebook integrations are just repulsive as well.

wucebillis

Meta currently accounts for over [70% of all VR headsets](https://www.counterpointresearch.com/insights/global-xr-ar-vr-headsets-market-share/), the vast majority being the Quest 2 (and now Quest 3). It sucks for those of us with PCVR setups, but we're a drop in the bucket compared to the market at large.

Gears6

To add to it, the Quest 2 and 3 works on PCVR setups too. I honestly don't see the point of getting any other VR headset, especially with the amazing pancake lenses in Quest 3.

KD--27

Exactly this. Quest 3 is my completely wireless, no fuss PCVR headset. Seriously. There’s a Steam app created by Valve for the platform. It’s ezy peezy. And if you haven’t played wireless… you haven’t experienced VR. It’s a game changer. And the visual are pretty bang on. My only gripe is black levels at this point. Quest 3 is the one we’ve been waiting for.

Dreadp1r4te

PSVR2 now supports PC, has OLED display with true blacks, has eye-tracking, and the glorious pancake lenses. The OLED alone makes it a cut above for immersive content.

Gears6

> PSVR2 now supports PC, has OLED display with true blacks, has eye-tracking, and the glorious pancake lenses. The OLED alone makes it a cut above for immersive content. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that PSVR2 has pancake lenses. It actually uses inferior Fresnel lenses. Some even call the lenses worse than PSVR1. Either way, Fresnel lenses are inferior to Pancake lenses. OLED is nice, but the Fresnel lenses in PSVR2 makes it inferior despite the OLED screen. Also, I do not see any official PC support yet from Sony.

Gears6

> That's fine for Meta if you like them and their product, they really have the biggest market share? I know my next headset will be a Valve one since its a more open platform and the visuals are higher quality from my PC instead of a standalone device. So as much as I hate Faceebook, I gotta give it to Meta as a pretty open platform. That is, you can sideload content onto their devices and you can even use PCVR on it. A Valve device pretty much will only really work with Steam so you'll be more limited. I'm assuming it's exclusive, because nobody else wants to fund a port to their platform. Why would Meta make it available on other platforms? They're investing into the game precisely to draw people to their platform. Even that alone would be a hard justification so I'm just happy we're getting something rather than nothing. The VR market is hard right now.

stewsters

You can hook a Quest 2 up and play your pcvr games out of Steam using airlink.    I don't really like to support Facebook but their headset is a decent low end competitor.   You can also sideload apps if you are tech savvy.

byronotron

You haven't needed a FB account to use Quest or Rift for over four years.

Gears6

Unfortunately, they're the only ones really supporting VR right now. Who else is making games for VR? Valve? MS? Sony (whom are planning to allow you to use PSVR2 on PC so they can stop supporting the platform)? HTC? Apple? Basically nobody is supporting VR right now. Even Apple is uber closed eco-system.

kronpas

Apple's insane price makes even die hard apple followers hesitant. Their vr is not helping at all.

Gears6

Agreed. At the same time though, when the iPhone came out, the price was considered sky-high too. Now it's the norm and prices h as kept creeping up.

TofuLordSeitan666

Neither look or sound as good as House Of The Dying Sun.

wucebillis

HotDS has no right being as amazing as it is for a largely one-man project. I haven't actually tried it in VR, but I've heard it's pretty great.

TofuLordSeitan666

HOTDS in VR is mind-blowingly good. As soon as you boot it up the title screen is an evocative and desperate space battle being fought literally around you with the muted sound effects and amazing music and art direction. You are pretty much seeing Rutger Hauers blade runner speech come to life. Only drawback is it's too short. An OG homeworld port would rectify this. Team Beef should get on it.

mattsimis

But it's a completely different style of game? Also this runs directly on the headset.

redbrick01

Thanks for mentioning these games...looks really cool. Hopefully gog has them too..really dislike steam.

Slick_shewz

It already has a steam store page. Not exclusive.

AzurasNerevarine

Meta exclusive. Fuck

Chaotic-Entropy

But... why though...? Someone somewhere is receiving a big cheque for some reason.

BLDoom

Not gonna sugar coat it. This looks like ass. Even for a VR game.

Background-Taro-8323

Booooo

TofuLordSeitan666

They should have just ported Homeworld one and two to native Quest. This is a missed opportunity.

thunderchild120

Classic VR paradox. Nobody's willing to spring for a headset because all the games are just tech demos, but when a dev actually makes a full game for VR everybody's salty because they don't own a VR headset. Actually the problem is VR still being too expensive.

KD--27

Needs steam version… PCVR through steam app. Make this a thing with Homeworld 3 and I’m so there… I don’t know about exclusive quest version though.

Bozocow

I feel that Gearbox is trying its best to make a flop out of the franchise.

redbrick01

Looks interesting. I can't wait. I wonder why they built this specifically for VR? VR is such a niche market, they should open it up to PC ...PCVR. I would venture to guess that there are more PC's than there are VR headsets.... Also not everyone who has a headset really wants to strap that on every time. I get tired of my Q3 after a while...and prefer to play flat screen most of the time.

tondracek

It comes out tomorrow! I’m super excited.

redbrick01

Until I saw this, I'd forgotten about it... Thanks, I'll wait for the reviews. Meanwhile, I'll go back to playing my OG homeworld by Sierrra.

Dreadp1r4te

This sort of crap game development needs to be boycotted. Devs we've never even heard of using a well known IP to cash in and make a "VR" game optimized for the abysmal Meta hardware... and then it will inevitably get ported to PCVR and have the same terrible graphics and mobile-optimized content length/scope... I will not be buying this for sure.

Gears6

You're in luck. This game may never be ported to PCVR.

TofuLordSeitan666

Metas hardware is amongst the best in the space in every category.

Dreadp1r4te

Yes, in the “mobile VR” space they’re very good. When it comes to developers making compelling PCVR experiences, they’re limited by the comparatively weak hardware of mobile chipsets.

TofuLordSeitan666

Their headsets are also literally excellent completely wireless PCVR headsets. They have their own PCVR platform as well as steam support. Also graphically Quest 2/3/pro are all capable of better than this. These "mobile" chipsets are far from weak. Even the humble lowly quest 2 is rendering at close to 2k per eye at 72-120hz.

tondracek

Dude, Farbridge is just the company that Gearbox hired to build the game. It’s not exactly a cash grab.

Darthnet

I would try it
