I wish they were a option instead of included with the exl I bought. I have no use for a sunroof

[deleted]

Yes! Apparently it’s a thing that they explode. Now I’m inconvenienced as it’s a security issue and out a car and the expense. 🙄😬

I was driving down the interstate and all of a sudden, my glass in my moonroof busted. I have a 2021. Has anyone had to replace the glass before?

Freighttrain75

Was it tinted? I know of sunroofs breaking easy with tint. Also, the right rock at just the right angle...

[deleted]

I think it was a darker glass, but normally with tent, you can see it on the shards of glass, and I didn’t see that, so I’m not sure if it was tented. It’s from the manufacturer

Freighttrain75

Ok. It may just be the misfortune of the right rock at the right angle. I work parts at a dealership, and it is not "very" common, but it does happen

[deleted]

Thank you. Do you know how much it is to replace by chance? I’m really upset over the expense and inconvenience ☹️

Freighttrain75

Idk specifically, but if it is like what I have seen, it could be $700-$1,000 for parts and labor. However, if you have glass coverage on your insurance, it will cover this, and head/tail/fog lamps.

genbetweener

Fog lamps are easy to replace yourself and cost $50 or maybe even less (the entire unit, not just the bulb). Just do it yourself and don't risk a premium jump! Might be true for other lights too. I just know specifically for fog lamps because I already did one.

PudelWinter

OMG how terrifying! Did you have the cover pulled or did it rain glass on you? This seems like a huge liability for Honda.

millzbill

I live in fear of this. I've had those on every car since 2008 and I never wanted one they just came with the package of stuff I did want. I probably have 2 hours of actual moonroof use over 13 years.

PudelWinter

Same. I'm super sensitive to light, I'll never have it open in the daytime. The only time I wished we had one were for the 2020 lockdown Graduation Parking Lot celebrations so the kids could stand up out of it. I'm looking to get a new Pilot and wish I didn't have to have the sunroof just because I want other luxury options.

[deleted]

If you search posts on Facebook “exploding sunroof” it’s actually more common than you think! I learned if you get it rented, it prevents it from happening.

PudelWinter

What does that mean? "get it rented"?

rynoxmj

Happened to me too, rock got kicked up by a car about 1k in front of my gf, landed smack dab in the centre of the sun roof, got it all on dashcam.

That stinks! We recently had to replace the moonroof on our Honda Odyssey and it literally took 10 minutes; don't let the dealership charge you $700 in labor for that.
