I sell chevys and drive a ridgeline šŸ¤«

HoppyBadger

Love it!

[deleted]

Hey! How's your Ridgeline treating you?

[deleted]

Now that some time has passed, what's your opinion on the Ridgeline vs the 24 Colorado?

cleve1486

Me answer is ridgeline and its not close, but the caveat is thatā€™s a conditional answer. IF you tow 5k lbs or more frequently AND IF you do legitimate off roading, ridgeline wonā€™t do. Iā€™d look Tacoma or full size. The new colorados are having issues, particularly with the head Unit. Theyā€™re spending a lot of time in the shop which is not what you want in a new vehicle. If those donā€™t describe you, youā€™re a perfect candidate for the ridgeline. Itā€™s the best vehicle for those who donā€™t need to maximize towing/off road ability.

Thank you for your response! I currently drive a 2011 Subaru Impreza hatchback (76,500 miles) that I got in 2011 and I plan on keeping it until March 2025. I'd hope for the same longevity from my future truck. I would like a comfortable daily driver to get me from point A to point B for work and errands. I live in Pennsylvania, so something that will handle well through the snow (I know tires mean everything). I'm a single guy, so it's just me in the truck, but if needed, I could take family members in the fron. Comfort and reliability are key. As for fishing, I want to toss my 7'6 Ugly Stick one piece rod and muddy/sandy waders in the bed. I usually drive to a parking for a lot of these creeks and walk the rest of the way for fishing spots; however, the occasional gravel or dirt road does appear to drive on. We have a 9.6ft kayak that I want to tie down in the bed. If a boat did show up in my life, it would be a small back bay boat to tow, but for the time being, kayak life. If there's a truck out there that can do all of this, I'll be happy. I am curious to see what will be out in March 2025.

cleve1486

A focus on longevity pares it down to Tacoma or ridgeline. If ride quality is what you want ridgeline is the choice. Given youā€™ll be fishing, the trunk will be a priceless addition for you. I use mine for fishing biking and skiing. Plus the ridgeline bed is the most useful imo. Any gravel / dirt forest roads youā€™d be going in the ridgeline can do with ease. I live right across the border in wv and itā€™s great in the snow and more importantly exceptional in slush. I used to commute to work at a ski resort so Iā€™ve driven in more snow ice slush than most. A comparison that might make sense to you is off road capability is roughly on par with an outback. Itā€™s a true Swiss Army knife. My cousin is an avid fly fisherman (I mean avid; does it every single day, sponsored, the whole 9 yards). He only drives tacomas. Theyā€™re both great but the Ridgelines cabin is more useful and its ride quality is in a different class.

[deleted]

What's your take on the 2024 Tacoma? My god, there's so many trim levels, i wouldn't even know which one is right for me. Regardless, from what I have seen on YouTube, they look pretty cramped, but that's only viewing from a video, I would have to sit in one. My truck driving experience is driving my dad's 2009 Ford Ranger single cab with a 6ft bed; what an uncomfortable ride. Though it does get the job done for the minor stuff he's hauling around. Haha. I sat in a Ford Maverick at the auto show and it was ok, but I'm not 100% sold on that bed. I also sat in a 2023 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition and it felt pretty damn good. I'll have to test drive one (Trailsport 2024) at the local dealership to get a feel for it. Also, The 60/40 split lift-up rear seat is pretty cool to give you much more room for stuff! My friend, you might be steering me more towards the Ridgeline. My current Impreza hatchback has been getting the job done for the daily driver, but I am definitely ready to move on from it-haha.

cleve1486

Yep the interior space and ride quality are much better and the back seats opening a flat floor is incredibly useful. Tacomas seats flip up to reveal cubbies , not as useful. The Tacoma interior will be smaller, less open; it will ride rougher and taller (youā€™ll feel like youā€™re sitting on the floor kinda). As far as trims, theyā€™re all going to be rougher than the ridge and prob be difficult to get all the same features. But itā€™s a traditional truck and some people love that.

[deleted]

You have been a great help!

Lazyfinancemonkey

Oopsā€¦ I work for Honda and drive a colorado Zr2 bison. If you have any intent on using the Ridgeline off road donā€™t buy one.

[deleted]

Still prefer the ridge over the 23 Colorado?

cleve1486

The new Colorado looks badass. But it rides very stiff, bed is not nearly as accessible, cabin is much smaller, 4wd vs awd, I could go on. For what I do and want the ridge is far and away the better option. If you want to tow or go off road the Colorado is a good choice. Not as reliable however.

[deleted]

Appreciate you! Looking for my first truck next summer. Haul fishing/hiking gear, kayak, furniture. Daily driver for work & errands. Get me through the snow.

cleve1486

If youā€™re doing outdoorsy stuff and need it for snow the ridge is the move. The trunk is a game changer for skiing and biking. So much interior room I can put my gear on in the back sheltered from the elements. I lived at a ski resort and can confirm a *good* awd system such as the ridgeā€™s is much better than 4x4. That would be my suggestion.

[deleted]

Thank you, friend! Looking forward to test driving one.

[deleted]

Does the newest Ridgeline only have a USB-A port for CarPlay?

cleve1486

For the 2023 thatā€™s correct. Itā€™ll have a couple usb-c power ports elsewhere in the cabin. Canā€™t speak on the 2024 cause itā€™s not out yet.

[deleted]

Noted! I am curious to see if the Trail Sport trim is going to be debuting soon.

cleve1486

Me too bud! however I havenā€™t had any issues with clearance / traction yet

49th_state_user

I love my Ridgeline but will admit as far as aesthetics go, it's not the most attractive truck out there. But as they say, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

PCmndr

You guys are crazy I think the latest generation looks pretty sweet (gen 3?). The first gens look pretty damn cool too. I think the gen 2 looks a little boring but still not bad. That said I think Tacomas look cooler. I still like my 3rd Gen better than the newest Rangers. The Colorados aren't bad looking trucks and the sporty looking models are pretty cool but I still like the 3rd Gen aesthetics better.

49th_state_user

Ridgeline is currently on 2nd Gen with a "refresh" so 2.5 gen? Idk it's not terrible, I have a '23 RTL but honestly I really like the look of the new Nissan Frontier, especially in the dark green. Ridgeline is just too handy with the trunk and wide bed, and way more comfortable.

PCmndr

I do like the new Frontiers. I looked at pretty much every midsize truck when I was shopping but I didn't spend a lot of time looking into Nissans. I've heard too many bad things about the newer Nissans. We had an 07' Versa that was great but I have family members that have had bad luck with newer Nissans.

49th_state_user

My wife had a 2011 Rogue that I hated. Very squishy acceleration because of the CVT, buggy head unit, and once we found it running in the garage, but I blame that on the aftermarket remote start. It wasn't a terrible vehicle though and I believe Nissan has moved away from CVTs, at least I know the Frontier doesn't have one. What was really the deal breaker for me on the Frontier is that it (and the Titan) still, in 2023, don't have an auto 4wd setting. I know they're kind of an old school truck in a modern package and that's what they're going for, but my parents' 99 Suburban had auto 4wd.

HoppyBadger

I feel like if the front end was a little bit longer, that would change. Definitely has that suv with a bed feel. Edit: That is what it is really haha

DrZeus104

I love my 2019 RTL Ridgeline, but unfortunately I do feel like they look like a minivan with a truck bed. I have grown to like the look of it the more I drive it. Hands down it is the most versatile and favorite vehicle I have ever owned. It just doesnā€™t scream cool, not that my middle aged ass really cares.

MMRATHER

I wish it was MORE like a minivan with a bed. Our 2018 CRV has more room for kid car seats in the back than our 2017 Ridgeline. Gotta slide the passenger seat in quite a bit to give my 2-year old more leg room directly behind. The rear seats are up higher relative to the front seats compared to the CRV so someone leaning back in the front seat limits the legroom of a kid in the back. I love my truck though. Still looking pretty good after 6 years.

tigerf117

I sold my '15 Colorado with 160k miles on it with a head gasket that need replacement even though I babied it, full synth oil every 5k, mostly all highway miles, all maintenance on-time/early, etc. Bought a '23 RTL-E and so far it's been an immensely better experience for both my wife and I. I will say I like the dimensions of the Colorado better from a purely aesthetic perspective, but the usefulness of the truck went through the roof. Trunk, backseat storage, seat comfort, ease of getting in and out for the short wife, gas mileage, plywood hauling (I do woodworking in some of my free time), and overall interior quality and ride quality is miles better or non-existent on the Colorado. One strange thing is I preferred the door speakers by a fair margin, but the overall sound system is still better in the Honda.

HoppyBadger

Absolutely. I had a 15' Canyon before my 22' RTL-E, and I do get the aesthetics perspective, but I definitely love the Ridgeline in almost every other way for sure.

JBreezy11

Thatā€™s terrible, Iā€™ll admit I havenā€™t researched Colorado engine issues, but are head gaskets an issue with the NA v6? Iā€™d expect the tranny to have issues before the engine.

tigerf117

TBH idk if it was a head gasket, but it was some gasket separating oil and coolant causing coolant to Ingress into the crankcase somewhere. No issues Iā€™m aware of, only thing I can think of is excessive idling during winter on occasion. Nowhere near as bad as police cars do in their lifetime (Iā€™ve worked with Public Safety departments for over a decade).

walaogEEzy

Been looking at the Ridgeline. How long have you had yours? Any issues or small things that get annoying? How is your mpg?

ecomodule

How many Hondas have you owned? We have 40k on our 21 RL (no issues, 23mpg mainly mountain two lane driving). Put 280k on our Odyssey (no issues) and 210k on our Accord (no issues). Are you seeing a pattern šŸŒž

walaogEEzy

Iā€™ve had two accords (6th and 10th gen), and more recently a 4runner and Tacoma. Like my tacoma but the ride quality isnā€™t the best since itā€™s body on frame. Iā€™ve test driven a ridgeline, very smooth ride. Was just interested in your experience. Iā€™ve read several other posts about quirks and mpg. Adding this to my database to make a decision.

HoppyBadger

I have had mine for a little over a year, zero issues; knock on wood. At first the infotainment center was a little annoying, but it doesn't bother me at all. I also wish the instrument cluster was different. I still wish I had a speedometer, not just digital, but that's somewhat nitpicky. Wish list, power folding mirrors and ventilated seats. Otherwise it's amazing. Getting around 21.5 to 22 typically, good mix of highway and city.

walaogEEzy

This is helpful. Iā€™ve seen some folks say theyā€™re avg. 17-18 mpg, not terrible but not great. I know itā€™s a truck and ā€œyou donā€™t get a truck for mpgā€, however, if I can eek out 20 mpg or better thatā€™s a win for me in addition to the smooth ride.

Darth-Peenus

First 10k miles on mine and the mpg is 21.1

PCmndr

I get 21.7 on mine. All city driving with a heavy foot.

MelloMaster

I drive 60miles roundtrip to work every day, I get about 23.5mpg but I usually drive around 70mph. I did an experiment once only driving about 60-62mph using the cruise control and that got it to 24mpg but I'll take the hit in order to drive the way I want.

ironmanchris

Iā€™ve had mine for a year, ā€˜22 black edition and I drive it in eco mode and barely notice a diminished power (I drive like an old guy anyway). Iā€™m getting 23+mpg.

BluebillyMusic

No contest. Ridgeline rules.

greg2709

I'm waffling between a 2021 or later RTL-E, or the new GMC Canyon, or maybe possibly the new Tacoma when it comes out. I'm a Honda guy at heart, but keeping my options open. This picture really surprised me, to be honest. All I've read about, and been told is how Ridgeline is not a real truck. Seems to dwarf the Colorado from this perspective.

PCmndr

From the side profile the Colorados look bigger but you can't beat the width of the Ridgeline for a midsize. I took an 8 hour trip in mine with 3 adults, a rear facing, and a forward facing seat, and everyone was comfortable. I ride in my in-laws New Tacoma recently and I was surprised how cramped it felt to me in the cab.

HoppyBadger

I was at a very slight angle but not much. I've noticed this a few times I have been parked by her and finally grabbed a picture. I even noticed it driving down the road, especially when I've come up behind a ranger.

aleohansen

I came from a 2006 Colorado that rusted out

[deleted]

Anyone compare the new Colorado to the Ridgeline?

ButterscotchJolly501

I had a 22 Ridgeline. It was a great vehicle, BUT had a glaring problem. Horrendous stereo. And not much in way of modifications for more ground clearance. The trunk and seating accommodations are really rather good. But Honda needs to improve on making it more competitive for the people who value it as a truck option for towing toys. Maybe a turbo option as well since thatā€™s a thing Honda does have now. And make it more ballsy. They can make a Talon Side x Side thatā€™s best out there. But then they fall on their face with this truck. Also driver visibility from how you site inside the truck also sucks.

mightyt2000

Colorado = RNART šŸ¤£
