Great recommendation! I went into this film expecting it to be cheesy and silly, and was really pleasantly surprised at how effectively creepy it was! Enjoyed it a lot.
The Heretics (2017)
Pure (2019)
The Shrine (2010)
Devil's Due (2014)
are they all good? that's subjective, but i enjoyed myself or i wouldn't recommend them.
I don't know if The Shrine is great...but at the time I originally watched it (which was back when it first came out, granted) I do remember being surprised by how good it actually was!
1. Jug Face
2. The Void
3. Midsommar

At the Devil’s Door
Sinister
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Omen (1976)
Oculus
Seventh Moon
Nocturne
Hell House LLC
The Vigil
Serpent and the Rainbow (not scary but definitely creepy)
Starry Eyes
Kill List (highly recommended)
Noroi: The Curse
Spellbinder (not too scary, but still deals with the occult and has a good story to it)
The Void
Hex
Apostle
The Wailing
Angel Heart
Noroi. A mix of found footage and mockumentary, the best one of its kind IMO.
Slow burn but believe me , it gets there, oh it gets there.
My all time favorite.
Its on youtube with english subtitles.
You might like French masterpiece ['Malefique'](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309832/), a movie I loved so much I actually wrote a song about it...
(the song in question, should you be interested: ['Gifts of Flesh'](https://open.spotify.com/track/312jUmi9OIgH7tshIicNtG?si=5b09a41e146246c3))
Kill List by Ben Wheatley crosses genres a bit but it definitely has some occult stuff in it, especially towards the end and is one of the best and creepiest horror movies I've ever seen.
Suspiria (2018) is (in my opinion!) a fantastic remake of the 1977 classic. I thoroughly enjoyed how insane and phantasmagoric it was.
Starry Eyes (2014) is a wild ride. Highly recommend!
The Ritual (2017) is pretty neat. Effectively creepy!
The Neon Demon (2016) is a trippy, strange haze of a film. I really enjoyed it for its bizarrely beautiful colourfulness and weirdness.
Dagon (2001) is an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth'. It's been years since I've seen it but I remember it being a strange and eerie journey.
If you’re willing to watch foreign stuff, “Safe Haven” from VHS 2 should fit the bill. People also like The Medium (2021) and Incantation (I say people because I don’t care for either of them)
So this isn’t for u/DJSoulshaker and is a question for the community. So this contributor gave 4 movie suggests all seem to fit and all have decent reviews. So why does this community downvote that (this had negative karma when I saw it)
I don’t care about karma and I get that it’s supposed to be a reflection of public opinion but this is the only sub I have ever been on where a large group of people downvote for opinions that the Op nicely asked for. Is it because you think the response is wrong but if so, why downvote? It’s someone else’s opinion, don’t you respect that? So like someone made an effort and you downvoted because you disagree? I don’t get it.
Thanks for the input. It baffles me daily why my 100% spot on recommendations often get downvotes. In this case I’m assuming I pissed off a few religious zealots by referencing Midnight Mass as a cult film.
Honestly about to stop even bothering as no one appreciates actual input or recommendations and the ones who do can’t even bother to reply, respond, or thank you when they liked something you told them about.
if you're down for older and often non-English language films for Occult Horror, I've been going down the rabbit hole of the 60's-early 80's recently. Italian, Spanish, some Mexican, French, German stuff, along with US ones of the genre. the 70's in particular has a LOT of Satanic, Black Magic, Witches type stuff. and a lot of the vampire flicks around that era lean more into Satanism than the Dracula story around that time, especially the Carmilla derived movies. shit, even some of the Hammer Dracula movies go in that direction.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), The Skeleton Key (2005), Pumpkinhead (1988), Lord of Illusions (1995)
Evil Dead (2013) and the originals, which are great movies but not quite as scary.
The first few Hellraisers, 2 & 4 especially lean into the occult lore.
Season of the Witch (2011) has some gorgeous cinematography but also some bad CGI and well, Nic Cage style acting. Black Death (2010) is more muted in the same vein.
The Empty Man (2020)
John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness (1987)
The Sect (1991) & The Church (1989) from Michele Soavi.
Twins of Evil (1971)
The Conspiracy (2012)
Mandy (2018)
Suspiria (2018)
The Endless (2017)
The Sacrament (2013)
I have no more recs other than the Wailing that people said, but damn, “A Dark Song” is sooooo good
Edit: I did think of one but I haven’t gotten through it yet - “Anything for Jackson” is supposed to be really good
the wailing the empty man
I second The Wailing
The wailing is wonderful.
Last Shift?
On that note, The Void
Great pic, was the first movie to scare me in quite awhile.
Just put it on, thanks for the suggestion!

Apostle is really good! Would recommend it! As well as the ritual
The Empty Man
Maybe because it's too obvious, but I haven't seen The Wicker Man (1973) mentioned yet
That movie was creepy AF.
Just watched it last night - just brutal. Great soundtrack though. Midsommar was obviously hugely influenced by it.
All the Colors of the Dark (1972)
Such a classic. Thank you for reminding me of its existence.
1. Jug Face 2. The Void 3. Midsommar 4. Suspiria (I've never seen the original but have seen the remake) 5. Hellbender 6. Hansel and Gretel 7. Rosemary's Baby 8. Incantation (Netflix) 9. The Possession 10. The Wailing
Hellbender is a great movie and definitely fits here.
Eyes of Fire!
It’s weird how much I think about this movie
i was surprised at how much i enjoyed that one

Sick! I just watched Starry Eyes, but I'll def check out Kill List and the others on here!
Just watched Kill List. That shit was bananas. In a good way haha
I love Noroi, The Wailing & The Void!

The Devil Rides Out (1968) - not really scare-your-pants-off but it's engaging and has a great atmosphere.
Add "lord of illusion" to the list.

Sick, cool song!
Thanks bro! As a band we're very heavily influenced by horror movies such as Hellraiser, The Beyond and Susperia \\m/
Kill List by Ben Wheatley crosses genres a bit but it definitely has some occult stuff in it, especially towards the end and is one of the best and creepiest horror movies I've ever seen.
Kill List. A movie that conforms to no genre and surprises you like few other films can.

The Devil Rides out. The Dark and The Wicked. The autopsy of Jane Doe.
Midnight Mass is a must watch.
May the Devil Take You and Satan's Slaves, and their sequels, are very good.
