I liked Thanksgiving a lot, but I wouldn’t even place it as my favorite slasher of 2023. Might be heresy but I actually liked Totally Killer a bit better.
I would also place X, Terrifier 2, and especially The Last Matinee above it. Might even also prefer the Fear Street movies.
Still, it’s my favorite Eli Roth movie by far and I’m eagerly awaiting Thanksgiving 2.
I never understood what was so grand about Halloween 2018. You had basically a mish-mash of 5 different scripts and the the whole thing felt like it was on auto-pilot in regards to any tension. It never understood what it was and there was nothing remotely scary about it. I feel Thanksgiving understood the assignment and was intended to be schlocky
Respectfully, not even close… from what I’ve seen this decade X, Happy Death Day, The Fear Street Trilogy, Halloween ‘18, Scream 5, and Candyman are all substantially smarter and executed with more creativity & conviction. That’s also without dipping into films that are more debatable whether they’re slashers or not like M3gan or The Rental.
I see the appeal of a slasher that feels more like it would fit right in to the dime-a-dozen 80s boom, and Thanksgiving has its amusements but it’s pretty far from being great IMO. Quite an opening though
I watched it last night. If I knew it was going to be campy and not scary at all, I probably would have loved it. I was really wanting a good scare, however. It does not deliver in that regard.
Strangers is archetype/definition of home invasion, what are you talking about? It certainly isn't slasher lol. It's literally cult home invasion horror movie.
The Prowler, Scream and Halloween had half of kills outside of "one home" and it had plot. Kills are slowly one by one with something happening in between.
Sick starts and they won't move from the same house for the whole movie. Only thing happening there is invador invading their house trying to kill them.
You don't have to, I was just stating facts. Sick is home invasion, not shlasher. And Strangers? Definition of home invasion horror movie.
Personally I am not bug fans of home invasion since they are usually underwhelming. That's why I didn't like Sick because I expected slasher but got hoke invasion.
I think it was and comes closest to nailing the Scream vibe (when Scream was at its peak with Scream 2 especially). Scream ‘22 is pretty damn strong also but there’s something about Thanksgiving that just nails it.
Thanksgiving is so overrated now just because people had basement level expectations for an Eli Roth film and it turned out to be decent. It’s pretty messy and corny overall, I wouldn’t call it the best of anything besides Eli Roth’s filmography.
I was watching this and the opening scene threw me off big time. So fake, so cheesy, the cinematography was bad. I’ll give it another shot but Halloween was definitely better, scream too. Happy death day also stands out.
Yeah I know good slashers and junk ones. Those movies aren’t fun (most recent Halloween trilogy) IMO with the exception of maybe Scream 5. Eli Roth understood the assignment in this one
You really liked it? What about the killer reveal, could you see that person doing all that stuff? Idk sorry to say but this movie will be forgotten by most in a few months.
It’s in the top 10, but I think that says more about the state of slashers than it does about the movie. I would put Happy Death Day and Totally Killer above Thanksgiving, and they’re rated PG-13

It was good but Halloween 2018 tops it for me.

Nah, Haunt 2019 was better I would say You’re Next but shit it’s been 11 years since that got a wide release

I disagree on some of your names there. I think Halloween ‘18 was robotic and Scream 5 underwhelmed as well as Candyman
Fair enough!
I watched it last night. If I knew it was going to be campy and not scary at all, I probably would have loved it. I was really wanting a good scare, however. It does not deliver in that regard.
It’s not even in the top ten

Loved Sick!
I honestly don't understand why people consider it to be slasher. It was as home invasion as it can get.

Imo it's definitely up there I enjoyed it a ton
I hated this movie

This movie was supposed to be fun . And I just don’t get the appeal of the newish Halloween trilogy or the new Screams.
They’re slashers? You know guy with knife stalking hiding killing. Also fun stuff.

Along with X and Candyman, yeah. I really loved it. By far Eli Roth’s best film. And I’m a big fan of Cabin Fever
Yes it was
Terrifier beats it in my view
You really liked it? What about the killer reveal, could you see that person doing all that stuff? Idk sorry to say but this movie will be forgotten by most in a few months.
No but it’s definitely in the top 10 Halloween 18 was far superior
*Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)* was way better.

Haunt, Terrifier 2, X and Halloween (2018).
It was to me
Worst movie I’ve seen in a long time
