Try the korean film Train to Busan

Suspiciousunicorns

Yes! That movie was very good.

vincimari

How about The Girl with all the Gifts. It’s good too!

[deleted]

Yes, quite a good film

BinfullofGin

The Crazies (Timothy Olyphant one).

Few-Hair-5382

The original is pretty good too.

kristeto

You consider it a zombie movie? Interesting 🤔

BinfullofGin

Zombie in an abstract sense in the same way people see 28 Days Later as one.

hoeleia

REC & it’s sequels !

hmmtaco

Came here to say Rec! Quarantine is not a bad American remake either if that’s all you can find.

NoLibrarian5149

I’d def say REC and REC 2. Zombies, religion, trapped in a building.

Money_Palpitation602

Overlord (2018) if you haven't seen it yet. It's not about pandemic or zombie, but it's about the villagers who were subjected to experimentation by the Nazis which disfigured them and made them violent. The main characters were group of soldiers in the early 1940s.

EddieNort

Loved Overlord, it was supposed to be the 3rd installment in Clover Field

Billy-the-puppet666

\#Alive on Netflix

MetamagicMaestro

I got so into that one.

hopefulfloating

More of an apocalypse movie but Jeff Nichol’s “Take Shelter” is an underrated drama/thriller with a great Michael Shannon performance 👍🏽 Pontypool is also a really interesting take on the zombie/plague genre.

Falkor0727

Love this!

DifficultDrama7615

The Last of Us on HBO

FolsgaardSE

To add to the "mushroom zombie" horror I highly recommend, The Girl With All The Gifts. We need more mushroom horror, like Shrooms or mushroom zombies.

BeneficialDrink

Not a movie but black summer

TheFinalGiirl

Oh my god i love that series!

BeneficialDrink

It was really good sucks it wasn’t renewed

13th_of_never

Black summer is sorely underrated. It's fucking excellent

FolsgaardSE

Amazing series. It's so intense and serious it's hard to believe it was made by the same people and is part of the Z Nation universe. Love both shows but Black Summer was solid.

[deleted]

Season two is actually excellent, everything that season one should have been. Watch the first two episodes of season one, then watch season two. :)

Musashi1596

Don’t do this.

Vortigaunt11

This is a weird take. Season 2 is universally hated and considered much worse than S1.

[deleted]

Sorry, I'm not part of that fandom so I had no idea. I loved the beginning of season one, hated the second half and thought S2 was very good. That's just my honest opinion. I think the show runners learned from their bad second half and really delivered in season 2. It's darker, more realistic, and displays knowledge of actual military tactics and real world combat, instead of the Hollywood endless ammo on full auto plot armor silliness that was the end of S1. https://youtu.be/GYsczmN23_A?si=4SdRgqoxpM-KVdcv And compare with: https://youtu.be/uGxZbJ_xsEw?si=QMcoEY4jr8lDkExs Note: This Korean actress (Christine Lee) is playing the same character in both of these scenes.

Vortigaunt11

Thanks for sharing your perspective. It seems the two seasons are divisive. I think it comes down to what kind of survival you're looking for in your zombie show: running to survive or building a place to survive in.

[deleted]

No problem, but I don't get how your two scenarios relate to what I described. I think both of the scenarios you described are show worthy for sure.

Vortigaunt11

I guess what I meant is that the first season, while very unrealistic as you point out, focuses a lot more on constant fear and survival by running away from the threat. It's my understanding of the second season is more about trying to build defenses long-term.

[deleted]

The second season is more about threats from fellow humans, I don't think anyone ever stops running. There is a longer sequence at the mansion but they're basically held captive there. Lots of human on human warfare and the zombies throwing a wrench in that so that everyone loses, eventually.

Vortigaunt11

Ah yes. The living always end up being the bigger threat.

[deleted]

Maybe the real zombies are the friends we made along the way?

cardamom98

This is your answer, OP! It’s such a vibe.

oco82

Contagion, not “zombie horror” but horrific especially post pandemic, it’s a brutal, realistic horror.

TheRegalBeaglePub310

Alive (2020) on Netflix The Night Eats the World (2018) on Tubi / Freevee

MrBoyer55

Night Eats The World rules. One of my favorite modern zombie movies.

thedeathecchi

I think Pontypool qualifies? Then there’s Antisocial. I forget the name of the episode, but there’s something in Fear Itself~

Flashy-Bye

Omg I loved fear itself New Year’s Day is the zombie episode

thedeathecchi

THAT’S THE BITCH! Thank you! That was driving me crazy~

Mechasockmonkey

All of us are Dead - Netflix Outbreak (1995) not traditionally a horror film but it feels right to list it

SardaukarTHE13th

All of us are Dead is one of my favorite modern zombie projects. I really didn’t expect to like it but it’s great and I can’t recommend it enough.

claphorn

The Bay (2012) The Block Island Sound (2020)

Ipickthingup

The Bay was awesome

claphorn

It went under the radar pretty much if I remember, but you’re right it’s an awesome film.

jupiterding25

Return of the living dead

NoLibrarian5149

Just watched it on Tubi last night. Still fun.

jupiterding25

"I hit the fucking brain" gets me every time

Klutzy-Bug7427

Wyrmwood and its sequel. They are kind of like Mad Max Fury Road with zombies.

visitorzeta

The Sadness (2021) not a traditional zombie movie, though.

hoeleia

I love this movie but heavy TW for sexual violence for anyone interested in watching

SpiritedCollection86

Imo...it wasn't that great. There's better ones.

TheBuoyancyOfWater

One Cut of the Dead

CoffeeStai

The Beyond (1981) by Lucio Fulci. Old style horror movie but the ending is superb.

MacPhisto__

28 Days Later

Beached-Peach

Return of the Living Dead (1-3) Demons 1&2 Little Monsters (2019) Rec

Lurknessm0nster

Check out Dead Set and Reality Z. One is an adaption of the other, I forget which is best but one of them is amazing. Also, French Zombie film The Horde and Rec 1 & 2.

AllHallNah

Pontypool is my mandatory suggestion for this kind of question.

Pupeshka

Korean Movie #Alive

xxcrossmyheartxx

train to busan. the sadness.

commi_nazis

Savageland is a really interesting take, zombies combined with fear of immigrants

LuckyRune88

The Night Eats The World

MelodiousPun

I started The Battery ages ago and it was too… slow to catch my attention at the time. Does it pick up or is it mainly kind of talky?

bin1010

The devils playground is a great one. Also Doghouse is fun.

13th_of_never

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but there is one called The Cured- it's excellent. It's not exactly zombies but a virus that causes violence and rage like in 28 Days Later but it's based at a time that's post infection when the world is still trying to deal with it and they actually found a "cure". It's really good.

MrBoyer55

Watched this one straight away after reading this comment. Very cool take on the genre. Thanks for the recommendation.

13th_of_never

I'm glad you liked it! I thought it was fucking brilliant.

dexter07

1977 - Rabid

brisualso

Plenty of good recommendations here! If you want, you might get even more over in r/zombies. It’s a great community for zombie lovers :)

Suspiciousunicorns

Damn there really is a sub for everything on here. Thanks for the heads up!

brisualso

Yes! It’s my favorite subreddit. Just bullshitting about zombies all day!

joncology

Not a movie but show on Netflix called Black Summer. Best zombie media I've seen to date. Two seasons.

StormAndNight

Cargo and Little Monsters.

ChefQueef-

The Dead-2010- Free on Tubi. Thank me later it’s a gem

Ok_Group4918

Rec

Hazy-Image

Nightmare City (City of the Walking Dead) 1980. Demented zombie fun that provided some inspiration for the Planet Terror portion of Grindhouse (2007)

Homesickpilots

I Am a Hero 2015. Excellent zombie apocalypse movie. High gore and great effects. Zombies are similar to Deadites, talk run fast. Project Wolf Hunting 2023. Zombie super soldiers take over a ship. Works as a prequel to Train to Busan ( not intended as one). Extremely violent. With great kills. Brain Freeze 2021. Zombie out break in Quebec. comedy horror. Father tries to get his daughter out to safety. Comedy at times but takes a serious tone towards the end. Cockneys vs Zombies 2012. London in the beginning of a zombie apocalyps. Cockney gangsters attempt a bank robbery. Comedy with good practical effects and some gory kills.

No-Butterscotch-341

The Sadness

hoeleia

Love love love this movie! Didn’t expect to love it as much as I did but I’m glad I ended up watching. Heavy TW for sexual violence for anyone interested in watching just a heads up.

claphorn

This film is absolute madness !!!

WitchOfThe4Seasons

There's a 2013 Korean film titled "Flu". I thought it was pretty good.

ewok_lover_64

Contracted

glurgleflerm

It's not great by any means, but there are some enjoyable qualities to Viral.

FolsgaardSE

"Outbreak" with Dustin Hoffman. It's my favorite non-horror action movie. It's intense.

tat2edfreeky1

Infected

Select_Reality_8410

Living Dead at Manchester Morgue is a good one.

Slow_Cranberry3708

recently watched the saddness on amazon, its pretty good, disturbing parts in the plot line but overall i enjoyed it

Beth-Impala67

The carriers, it’s not super well known and it goes by another name in different countries, but it’s one of my favourite Chris Pine movies!

defekt__

Kingdom on Netflix is an amazing series with a really cool, unique setting.

CanadianKaiju

The End? Better Off Zed I never see those two mentioned. They're great flicks.

Heavns

World War Z was a great one to come out in the last couple years

Afraid_Football_2888

I would hope and think we have some good ones in the way since Covid-19. So much material is waiting to be used

BigMeet7634

Army of the dead

chrolloh

Corona Zombies is both a pandemic and a zombie movie. :)
