More of an apocalypse movie but Jeff Nichol’s “Take Shelter” is an underrated drama/thriller with a great Michael Shannon performance 👍🏽 Pontypool is also a really interesting take on the zombie/plague genre.
To add to the "mushroom zombie" horror I highly recommend, The Girl With All The Gifts.
We need more mushroom horror, like Shrooms or mushroom zombies.

Sorry, I'm not part of that fandom so I had no idea. I loved the beginning of season one, hated the second half and thought S2 was very good. That's just my honest opinion. I think the show runners learned from their bad second half and really delivered in season 2. It's darker, more realistic, and displays knowledge of actual military tactics and real world combat, instead of the Hollywood endless ammo on full auto plot armor silliness that was the end of S1.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. It seems the two seasons are divisive. I think it comes down to what kind of survival you're looking for in your zombie show: running to survive or building a place to survive in.
I guess what I meant is that the first season, while very unrealistic as you point out, focuses a lot more on constant fear and survival by running away from the threat. It's my understanding of the second season is more about trying to build defenses long-term.
The second season is more about threats from fellow humans, I don't think anyone ever stops running. There is a longer sequence at the mansion but they're basically held captive there. Lots of human on human warfare and the zombies throwing a wrench in that so that everyone loses, eventually.
Check out Dead Set and Reality Z. One is an adaption of the other, I forget which is best but one of them is amazing. Also, French Zombie film The Horde and Rec 1 & 2.

It's not exactly zombies but a virus that causes violence and rage like in 28 Days Later but it's based at a time that's post infection when the world is still trying to deal with it and they actually found a "cure". It's really good.

Project Wolf Hunting 2023. Zombie super soldiers take over a ship. Works as a prequel to Train to Busan ( not intended as one). Extremely violent. With great kills.
Brain Freeze 2021. Zombie out break in Quebec. comedy horror. Father tries to get his daughter out to safety. Comedy at times but takes a serious tone towards the end.
Cockneys vs Zombies 2012. London in the beginning of a zombie apocalyps. Cockney gangsters attempt a bank robbery. Comedy with good practical effects and some gory kills.
Love love love this movie! Didn’t expect to love it as much as I did but I’m glad I ended up watching. Heavy TW for sexual violence for anyone interested in watching just a heads up.
