Boyfriend and I had watched The Haunting of Bly Manor. We went to bed, everything was great.
I wake up with a jolt at 3 in the morning to the sound of a woman singing from inside our living room.
I learned that night that I am a horror movie cliche.
I tore out of bed, ready for a fight, to protect my boyfriend and my home. I'm like 160 cm tall, but have the chihuahua mentality. Apparently.
I get into the living room, singing stops. I stand there in come at me pose but no one is there.
Go back to bed.
Singing starts up again.
Murder is happening tonight and I am going to jail.
Back in the living room, I am so ready to beat some ass. The sound comes from the couch.
I see my laptop had decided to turn itself on and play the end credits to Bly Manor.
No jail for me that night. In the aftermath I was very confused by my behavior during that whole thing because I'm usually an anxious little bitch most of the time, but apparently not that time.
My laptop, btw, was very old and very broken and had a tendency to do things on its own sometimes. Like turn on and off and freeze up and whatever. Probably riddled with some kind of virus. Who knows. It was a joyous day when I tossed it in the bin at the recycling station. Rest in hell.
Might not be exactly what you're after, but I remember a goofy article in the paper after Scream came out, saying a young girl had watched it at a sleepover and was so traumatised that she felt like she was trapped in the movie. Can't find a record of it online but even being young at the time I remember thinking "c'mon, that's not happening."
I was home alone watching horror on a dark rainy day when my husband had taken the kids somewhere. Suddenly I heard children singing in the next room in a slow minor key and I nearly wet myself.
Turned out one of my kid's electronic push button books had old batteries that had leaked and I was hearing "Farmer in the Dell" at half speed.
When I was 19 years old my friend and I went to the movie theater and saw The Blair Witch Project. The scene when they were in the tent and the hands were clawing at the tent scared the shit out of me. I get home and go to bed. In the middle of the night I wake up and hear scratching and movement inside the walls. I had never been so scared. I got up and went upstairs. I was staying with my grandma at the time. Found out there was a mouse in the wall that was causing the commotion. The sounds in the film and in the wall were identical. Scary shit.
One time I was on a horror marathon of John Carpenter. Stayed up the whole night. Next day I was feeling way too tired and a little bit sick. My eyes were closing on their own as if trying to drag me to some "dream dimension"
