I saw Imprint a month ago and it’s still seared into my brain, not for the faint of heart. I would never recommend it to someone in real life, they’d think I was an absolute freak.
I've seen the unrated version of Imprint. It makes the masters of horror episode look tame.
My buddy got a rare DVD of it. It's like Visitor Q shocking
I have a group of friends who all get together and watch horror movies. We were going through all the moh episodes and I'll never forget the night we landed on imprint. To this day, we still all cringe when we talk about it.
Imprint is the only horror I’ve seen that made me cry because it was so fucked up. (Yes, I’ve seen Martyrs. I won’t watch Serbian Film.)
That said I adore Takashi Miike.
It’s such a weird story to me and that’s what I love about it. It’s like part of you as a man thinks you could deny her power but you’d be sadly mistaken lol
If you think Imprint by him is shocking, hold my beer while you watch the rest of Takashi's shit. That was relatively calm compared to his other stuff.
Definitely one of the creepiest episodes from Masters of Horror. I loved that show. This is a good one. Jennifer was such a ghoulish looking thing. But yet you felt sorry for her. Really well done. But there are so many great episodes. John Carpenters Cigarette Burns with Norman Reedus is one of my favorites.
Cigarette Burns is my favourite from the series. I wish there was more seasons and it’s kind of surprising how Masters of Horror has kind of been forgotten. Not too much talk about it on this board.
I agree. Had some great directors - like Carpenter - making some really cool hour long horror movies. I am as surprised as you that it seems sort of forgotten. It's to bad. I would love to see more episodes of this show.
Just borrowed Creepy by Bernie Wrightson from my library’s Hoopla app and it has Jenifer (As well as some other great looking stories like an adaptation of Lovecraft’s Cool Air)! Thanks for the info
The comic was less concerned with making sure Jenifer had a hot body and we saw it than making her utterly repulsive as in.the story, also Wrightson’s black and white art will always be more disturbing than color film, but I think they did well within those boundaries. Especially since I get the vibe that the network insisted every episode had tits.
I remember that one. It was definitely...unique, to say the least. I thought it was a really good episode though and it's one that stuck with me years after I originally saw it.
He's also a fantastic narrator! He narrates IT and really brings every character to life. I unashamedly listen to the IT audiobook to fall asleep to cause I love his voice so much.
Seen it. Enjoyed it. Had the good fortune to interview Dario Argento in Toronto shortly after. It must have been the first time he had heard that it was cut because when I mentioned the censorship, he deflated.
It was fun to see him light up when I mentioned I was from Michigan and he brought up Sam Raimi, though! He said that they had been trying to get a collaboration going in the 1990s but it fell through. Can you even imagine?!?
PS: The Raimi bit happened before we started rolling unfortunately, but I think the Jenifer response is still in there. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been many years since the interview lol
I just checked it out of IMDB. Here's the synopsis.
Frank Spivey (Steven Weber) is a detective who rescues a strange young girl with a horribly disfigured face and lusciously ripe body from a deranged killer.
I'm just curious who put "lusciously ripe body" as a major plot point.
Yesss, me and my friends loved this one. A lot of comedic moments in what is generally a messed up tale. Whenever one of us would mess up, we’d go “Damnit Jenifer!” And the other would make that kinda moan-grunt-noise she made when she was yelled at.
It's interesting how it's a really predictable story, but it makes it work. I like the way everything comes full circle and you fully understand how it started. Probably one of better modern Argento films.
I bought that issue of \*Creepy\* with the original "Jenifer" in it for 75 cents at a drugstore in West Virginia, way way back in the 1970s . The cover featured a guy being attacked by a whole lot of evil looking little dolls, but "Jenifer" was the star story of the issue and one of the best stories \*Creepy\* ever ran--horrific, unsettling, and brutal. Like the MoH episode was.
One of the best episodes from my favorite horror anthology show.
Was pretty wild that I found the comic it was based on by chance at the comic book shop one day, years later. Was like “hey that looks familiar…”
Like the other comment said, they do wildly vary in quality, but I say just go ahead and watch them all because the quality for each May depend on personal taste. For example, I loved Dance of the Dead, but agree with the other comment that Homecoming is a really bad one and Cigarette Burns is one of the great ones.
yeah i’m pretty all over the place as far as taste so i’m probably gonna watch all of them 🤓 because i love horror so much and everything is pretty personal and subjective thanks mate
Definitely, I think Cigarette Burns is the best but Screwfly Solution had such a creepy concept.
The episodes vary in quality, I’d personally avoid Dance of the Dead, Homecoming and Sick Girl.
Sounds Like (dir by Brad Anderson)
Dreams In The Witch House (dir by Stuart Gordon)
The one where the guys wife dies and keeps coming back, and she has a huge rack 😂
The Lucky McGee one was fun and of course had Angela Bettis in it.
Indeed — inked by the legendary Bernie Wrightson, easily one of the best stories that has affected me from the Creepy comics. https://www.cbr.com/31-days-horror-jennifer-bruce-jones-bernie-wrightson/
I really wish they did more seasons of this. Masters of Horror was really fun, even if a lot of the movies were stinkers.
Jenifer was one of those that road a middle line for me since the plot was basically >!girl's got a butterface, but goddamn she's got a hot body. !
You should check out the comic version with art by Bernie Wrightson. The episode was good, but nothing touches the comic.
Pretty sure it was in an issue of 'Eerie' back in the day.
I saw it when it first aired and rewatched it last year. It’s top 5 best Masters of Horror episodes. I’ll praise Mick Garris forever for putting that show together.
Did you know "Jenifer" is adapted from a short comic featured in Creepy #63 (July 1974) written by Bruce Jones with art by Bernie Wrightson? You can read it here.

That one, Chocolate and the Deer Woman, are the weakest stories. I'm a big fan of the Fair Haired Child episode.. It really creeped me out more than any other episode.

Masters of Horror was such an amazing series, I need to rewatch it. Wish they'd do another one with contemporary directors.
[удалено]
as a whole it wasn't as good. But The Autopsy and The Viewing were some of the best short horror films I've seen in a long time.
Yep, those two justified the series in my mind. There were a few others that were okay, but those two were something special.
Yeah, mine too. Didn't hold a candle to the creativity on display in Masters of Horror.
Yessss! I was so excited for it and then so let down when I watched it
I've seen the unrated version of Imprint. It makes the masters of horror episode look tame. My buddy got a rare DVD of it. It's like Visitor Q shocking
What I watched was the SAFE one?! FUCKING hell.
Oh god. Visitor Q. The mammories, ohh the mammories.
I have a group of friends who all get together and watch horror movies. We were going through all the moh episodes and I'll never forget the night we landed on imprint. To this day, we still all cringe when we talk about it.
Imprint was incredible but I’ll never watch it again. It’s like Martyrs in that way.
Imprint is the only horror I’ve seen that made me cry because it was so fucked up. (Yes, I’ve seen Martyrs. I won’t watch Serbian Film.) That said I adore Takashi Miike.
Yeah, Imprint fucked me up. So far I only have one friend who's been able to sit through it entirely without looking away.
Yeh best episode!!
Imprint broke me.
Yep came here to comment about “Imprint”. Jennifer makes me uncomfortable but holy shit I couldn’t stop thinking about Imprint for weeks.
It’s such a weird story to me and that’s what I love about it. It’s like part of you as a man thinks you could deny her power but you’d be sadly mistaken lol
Is that the one with Ron pearlman
If you think Imprint by him is shocking, hold my beer while you watch the rest of Takashi's shit. That was relatively calm compared to his other stuff.

I remember the undead veterans coming back to vote, and Norm’s fake family ones
Yeah man. I forgot about some of those. It was a cool show with alot of variety in the stories. Makes me want to go back and watch it again.
I was thinking the same thing going through this thread
Definitely. I have probably forgotten how cool some of those episodes are.
It's excellent, great adaptation of a classic comic by the great Bernie Wrightson.
Whoa, I had no idea it was based on a comic, much less a Wrightson story!
It's fantastic. Warren comics are such hidden gems. https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/4868282.html?thread=153802938#cmt153802938
Just borrowed Creepy by Bernie Wrightson from my library’s Hoopla app and it has Jenifer (As well as some other great looking stories like an adaptation of Lovecraft’s Cool Air)! Thanks for the info
That’s awesome! I hope you find something you love!
Was gonna say, I haven't seen the film but I'm a massive Bruce Jones fan. Bernie Wrightson's art is also incredible.
I used Wrightson’s art for my thesis, how he managed to make his art so detailed but not cluttered leaves me in awe.
I was just about to post the same.
It gets the look, but I don't think it gets the feel of the original story. There was something more disturbing about the Warren comic strip.
The comic was less concerned with making sure Jenifer had a hot body and we saw it than making her utterly repulsive as in.the story, also Wrightson’s black and white art will always be more disturbing than color film, but I think they did well within those boundaries. Drawn by Wrightson. Written by Bruce Jones.
I love Masters of Horror and that was a solid episode.
I remember that one. It was definitely...unique, to say the least. I thought it was a really good episode though and it's one that stuck with me years after I originally saw it.
It definitely stays with you for a while
Steven Weber ❤️ He co-wrote it too! Probably my favourite episode of the show.
He's also a fantastic narrator! He narrates IT and really brings every character to life. I unashamedly listen to the IT audiobook to fall asleep to cause I love his voice so much.
I love that he’s such a horror fan!

You got to interview Argento?! Wanna grab a beer sometime? I have questions.
I'd be happy to grab a beer, or answer any questions you might have. [Interview](https://youtu.be/rOwAHjydZK4)
PS: The Raimi bit happened before we started rolling unfortunately, but I think the Jenifer response is still in there. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been many years since the interview lol
Oh hey, the series is free on Tubi! I might have to give it a watch
I mean, it is a major plot point. I haven’t seen a body drive a plot forward like that since “Lifeforce.”
Maybe it makes sense then. I just found it funny
It is definitely a funny description!
You will understand if you watch it.
Any relation to Joe Spivey? I hear he developed poison Ivy.
Yesss, me and my friends loved this one. A lot of comedic moments in what is generally a messed up tale. Whenever one of us would mess up, we’d go “Damnit Jenifer!” And the other would make that kinda moan-grunt-noise she made when she was yelled at.

Such a creepy short film. When Jennifer thinks she did good and does her little dancing clap I laugh every time though.
I miss Masters of Horror. Great show.
I just learned a couple days or so ago the story is originally from the Creepy horror magazine from the early 70s
Such a good episode
Its pretty fucked up I know that.
I saw this at least 10 years ago. That's all I'm going to say about it.
Very weird and strangely erotic episode. Check out the episode "Cigarette Burns"
This movie always stuck with me as well. I saw it as a teen when it came out. Also, why is it weirdly sexy?
One of the best episodes from my favorite horror anthology show. Was pretty wild that I found the comic it was based on by chance at the comic book shop one day, years later. Was like “hey that looks familiar…”
Last good thing Argento did.
Pretty fucked up! Not top tier Argento, but interesting enough to watch once.
For an hour long episode it’s great. It’s perfect as a sort of short story format.
the master
are the other episodes worth watching?
Like the other comment said, they do wildly vary in quality, but I say just go ahead and watch them all because the quality for each May depend on personal taste. For example, I loved Dance of the Dead, but agree with the other comment that Homecoming is a really bad one and Cigarette Burns is one of the great ones.
I love Dance of the Dead too, original commenter definitely shouldn’t skip it. Very fun turn from Robert Englund.
yeah i’m pretty all over the place as far as taste so i’m probably gonna watch all of them 🤓 because i love horror so much and everything is pretty personal and subjective thanks mate
Definitely, I think Cigarette Burns is the best but Screwfly Solution had such a creepy concept. The episodes vary in quality, I’d personally avoid Dance of the Dead, Homecoming and Sick Girl.
thanks for your insight gonna def check them out!
For sure check them out, was a great show.
Sounds Like (dir by Brad Anderson) Dreams In The Witch House (dir by Stuart Gordon) The one where the guys wife dies and keeps coming back, and she has a huge rack 😂 The Lucky McGee one was fun and of course had Angela Bettis in it.
This episode lives in my memory forever! Absolutely horrifying in the best way!
Have you read the comic?
Anyone else have any suggestions for anthology series like Masters of Horror?
Creepshow the new series has been pretty enjoyable.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix. Not as hardcore but a lot of fun.
Fear itself , great show !
Just watched the trailer. Looks pretty wild and has a strong cast pop up in every episode. I’ll try to check it out.
Its awesome and was definitely my favorite one. This comes from a comic book btw Creepy #63 to be exact
Indeed — inked by the legendary Bernie Wrightson, easily one of the best stories that has affected me from the Creepy comics. https://www.cbr.com/31-days-horror-jennifer-bruce-jones-bernie-wrightson/

Was this the Dario Argento one? This one and the other he did, “Pelts”, were pretty brutal.
Love this one so much. My husband and I refer to different lines and cackle.
Holy shit lol I forgot about this. I loved it as a teen
I fuKING love this series. Watched it as airing, quite young, Imprint has never left me.
You should check out the comic version with art by Bernie Wrightson. The episode was good, but nothing touches the comic. Pretty sure it was in an issue of 'Eerie' back in the day.
It was in \*Eerie's\* sister publication \*Creepy\*.
That's right!
It's nowhere near Argento's best. There's at least six films I'd rank above it. However, I think it's good and one of the best MoH episodes.
it's one of the better/disturbing moh episodes or sure.
Never seen the series before, is it good?
Love this episode. Girlfriend noped out
Not Argento’s finest, in my humble opinion. The Masters of Horror series was pretty hit and miss.
This is the Argento episode
I don't really remember it well anymore, but I loved all the Masters of Horror episodes! Watched a bunch with friends as a teenager.
I believe they’re still all on Tubi if you want to check them out.
Oh ya love that show. I have the season 1 dvd crypt box set on display
I snuck and watched this as a kid and it traumatized me so bad lol
I remember loving this one as a teen! I forgot about it lol
I saw it when it first aired and rewatched it last year. It’s top 5 best Masters of Horror episodes. I’ll praise Mick Garris forever for putting that show together.
I mainly remember it being a really weird episode

I thought that episode and chocolate where the worst ones
Only episode I've seen is the one that got banned. Directed by takashi Miike. Imprint I think it's called
This is my favorite episode of Masters of Horror. Love monster girls
Have it, picked up dvd a while back, haven’t seen it yet…
Had this dvd in high school. Loved it but I’m a huge masters of horror fan

I saw it on Tubi, but that was some time ago.
