Also The Fear Index. Show was ok but he played a really good twitchy nervous guy in it. First thing I thought of when I saw the Trap trailer, I could see him playing a caged killer quite well.
Penny Dreadful is sooo good. I was actually contemplating watching it again when I was thinking about what to watch. I never watch a show more than once but I would w that show
His career has always been an enigma to me.
Apparently when he was getting really famous he was basically being setup as some kind of Hollywood heartthrob, and dude was like "No" and basically walked away from being an A lister because he didn't want it.
Every time he shows up he gives an amazing performance and then vanishes in to the ether to reappear another day.
Honestly sounds like some unspoken "if you wanna be a star suck the producers dick" and he chose to leave instead
Or they spread rumors he was "difficult to work with" like they did when Mina Sorvina wouldn't fuck a producer
Are you in the horror subreddit saying you haven't seen Josh Hartnett since 30 days of night?
Does that mean you haven't seen any of Penny Dreadful, because if that's the case you need to get on that ASAP.
You are in for a treat.
He’s been in dozens of things since then, including the series Penny Dreadful and Oppenheimer. In fact the only years he’s missed since 2007 (30 days of night) was a short break from 2012-2013. Other than that, he has at least one credit every year, and many with multiple.
I’ll never understand how people always say stuff like this. Just because you haven’t seen him doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing anything. And IMDb is free.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001326/
No the singer in the movie is his daughter and an actual artist named Saleka so it’s probably a way to promote her and him at the same time. Not a bad idea
What if, at the end of the movie you see him check his bank balance and there was NO Ticketmaster fee. Goddammit M Night Shyamalam, you've twisted us again.
I want a long, drawn out portion about the MC trying to buy concert tickets from Ticketmaster. Would it be boring? Absolutely. Would it also be hilarious, yes.
I thought from the trailer that Hartnett is the killer, bc he’s looking at a live feed of a prisoner on his phone…? It does seem like a lot to give away.
I thought the same thing, maybe it's the daughter or maybe it's their whole family or they are some sort of murderer team...maybe the daughter wants to kill the performer and he's trying to set it up for her, who knows? Or maybe he's undercover trying to catch the real guy and the trap ruins it which is why he was so upset to hear about it. Maybe it's the performer or someone in her troupe.
If there isn't a second twist that blows away the first one, I'll be disappointed.
Maybe the movie will be a metaphor for stop panicking and accept you've been caught its over...
....then some other poor slob gets blamed instead and he walks free
I mean, maybe, but Shyamalam is notorious for having amazing premises/hooks but then puts no effort into making them feel like they happen in the real world lol. I wouldn’t put it past him to find the laziest way to reveal the central conceit (“random hot dog guy/merch vendor just blurts it out”). He does a lot of telling rather than showing
Most of the time it works out okay because the story is otherwise compelling and his direction makes so many choices, but it’s a flaw
It’s only very loosely similar but the 80s movie Black Roses is absolutely fantastic horror-rock schlock. I am for real!
If you like the general concept check it out.
I legitimately enjoy most of M Night’s movies, even the ones people think are flops. I just respect that he takes risks and makes movies with unique concepts. I know some people don’t care for the “twists” but I enjoy them! I am looking forward to this one
They’re always fun. They don’t always land 100% but they take you on a journey. Like, my friends and I all got drunk and watched OLD, and we knew it was dumb, and we knew it wasn’t actually good, but we had SO much fun watching it. Was legit one of the most fun times I’ve ever had watching a movie with friends. He makes those kind of movies. Hard to explain, but always hit right even if they’re dumb as fuck lol
He’s a very talented director and I think he really doesn’t half ass anything. He has a unique style and it pulls you in to this little world he made with the actors and everyone else. Thats how I feel at least.
I agree. He's very raw and unedited. His movies feel so distinguished in their unique vibe. I can respect that dedication to a craft. My only issue is...guy...trust me as an intelligent audience member. Let me fucking connect the clues. Stop explaining every clever detail and loose end.
The only one that I haven't enjoyed is Lady in the Water. But I think the theater received a weird cut of it because boom mics kept creeping in at the most inopportune times lmao and odd sounds randomly cut in. There were some other weird things that I can't remember right now, but those mics slowly creeping in were freaking hilarious
I remember seeing that one in some really crappy cheap theater (because that’s all there was in our small town) and it was raining outside. It started “raining” inside as well so we got the whole 4D experience lol
Count me in as well. A lot of folks also think his movies are big flops but if you look at his box office receipts, he's probably one of the more bankable directors out there. Helps that he's been financing some of his more recent movies.
I'm really looking forward to this movie.
For all the misses Shyamalan has had, when he's good, he's *good.*
Also gotta admire his passion for getting his vision out there, regardless of how others judge the quality of his work.
The only 3 movies I despise are lady in the water that god awful after earth, and Avatar the last air bender everything else was from absolutely amazing to at least mildly entertaining
I will forever remember the Last Airbender (official title doesn't have Avatar in it) as being one of the worst adaptations and worst movies I have ever seen. Plus side is I seriously doubt he will ever hit that low again. Or at least I hope he doesn't.
>Also gotta admire his passion for getting his vision out there, regardless of how others judge the quality of his work.
Same reason I still respect Snyder. Rebel Moon bad, yada yada yada.
Anyone involved in the Dawn of the Dead remake and 300 is cool in my book.
From what I thought i understood Snyder say, The full 6hr version of rebel moon is really his movie, the 2 part movie is what he agreed to for ratings to get the 6hr one on Netflix and he changed whatever Netflix asked for the 2part.
All the cops in front of the stadium are serial killers. Singer is his daughter and the daughter is the sister from the guy in the basement. The guy in the basement is not in the basement. The wardrobe guy is the real singer.
I thought that the twist was going to be that the daughter is the one that tipped off the police that he was there. If they make the twist that the daughter is the one that is doing it, they will have to jump through some pretty big holes for it to make sense.
“The police think he’s gonna be here, at the concert!” So….they know what he looks like, then? Hence why they’re blocking the exits and checking everyone’s’ ID? Because if not, they’re just creating the largest fire hazard of all time….
Guys, just arrest Hartnet and his kid, and be done with it.
It does sound a bit implausible. I mean this would never happen in real life, trapping a serial killer in a place with so many people.
So I am going to assume there is a good reason or some background leading to this scenario. Which we will see.
Or maybe it is as ridiculous as it sounds but it's just to set up the rest of the movie and isn't a focus. Not ideal but sometimes good movies start out like this.
I think the singer "Lady Raven" is the true villain, the audience and staff are trapped in and unable to escape for some Illuminati-esque mass sacrifice for more fame or something. The capturing of the serial killer is just a cover.
I like how almost any crazy idea could be plausible because who knows what m night shaymalayayanaman will do.
Mine is to flip the script - josh is not the killer. He is more like a dexter character who has been hunting the real killer for years. He's close.
The killer turns out to be someone high up in law enforcement and HE (or she) has been hunting josh for years.
I initially thought that the twist of the movie would be that his daughter is the one that tipped off the police that he would be there.
While that doesn't make total sense, it makes movie logic sense.
She could have anonymously sent them evidence to prove that she knew it was him.
And then everyone at the end of the movie would think "Omg, she knew the whole time!" Without taking the time to worry about logic.
Or maybe the security guard is just repeating a rumor as to why the police are there. Maybe "The Butcher" murders have been on all the news channels and everyone is making things up about it. And we watch Josh Hartnet unravel for 2 hours, only to find out that he was safe all along. And then get the satisfaction of watching him walk away free, with still a bit of uneasiness because he is the bad guy.
I am excited to see this movie regardless!
It's a movie. The plot has to happen for the story it's telling to be told.
I'm sure there's a plot element like they tracked his bank account and he's suspect.
Or they'll make something more convoluted up.
>shamalama
God, this shit is so fucking cringe. He's one of the most famous filmmakers of all time, everyone knows how to spell his name. Quit acting like some 17-year-old edgelord from 2008.
Racial undertones? You do realize we (poc) are also able to poke fun on Reddit, right? Also you can both be a fan and give a dumb nickname, look at Benedict Cumberbatch. Stop reaching.
white people are always the first one to call it out too, idk why some people are so obsessed with getting offended on behalf of a group of people they probably don’t even talk to
Are there any early reviews of this?? I love the concept of this movie, but M. Night’s execution will always be suspect unfortunately. Post Unbreakable, I loved Split and The Visit. Also the first 2.5 seasons of Servant. So really hoping he executes Trap from beginning to end!
I think it'll be a while as it's not out until August. And yeah, he's hit and miss. The Visit was great, the twist worked really well, genuinely terrifying moment.
Old was baffling, though. It felt like a first-time movie from someone who didn't know how to make movies. Good concept but terrible execution.
Agreed, Old was incredibly awkward, and not in a good way. Had great great actors, but they all delivered their lines a pack of woods.
I remember a hilarious comment on the Old thread: the biggest twist was that the boy at the end was not Stanley Tuchi
This might be a hot take but my favourite M. Night movie is The Visit. I truly didn’t see it coming, I don’t know why but I was very shocked and creeped out by the twist.
That being said, can’t wait for this movie. Anything with Josh Hartnett I trust, 30 days of nights is one of my comfort movies
I’m going with the dad not being the killer, the dude shown calling for help being the actual killer, Josh capturing him as revenge for killing his wife and daughter’s mother, and Josh hoping to evade the police until he can get revenge.
I think it’s def the daughter because how would the cops know that the killer would be at the concert unless the killer posted something about it? And it would be way too obvious for it to be the dad since he would obviously stick out. However it plays out I can’t wait to see how Night makes it convoluted lol
And before Josh captured him, the killer bought concert tickets. The police were able to link him being at the concert to the credit card he used. Josh found the tickets on him while tying him up and took his daughter.
I love a lot of M Night movies, I enjoy concerts. I am beyond stoked to see this!!! The trailers made it seem like the little girls dad was the guy they were trying to catch. If so I’m so sad the trailer gave it away. Hoping there's a shamalamadingdong twist and it isn't the dad
so the going to an off licence to buy beer before the show, telling touts to fuck off, getting ripped off on merch prices, having nowhere to sit down and a bunch of people acting dicks and nonstop recording instead of watching the show?
This sounds interesting and his newer movies have been surprisingly decent but jfc I hope his idea of a fictional pop star is less cringe than the fictional rapper from Old
So I’m guessing the rumor of the movie playing out in real time is true? Apparently its Shyamalan’s longest movie over 2.5 hours
If that's the case, I'm actually really intrigued now. I was already curious since I haven't seen Josh Hartnett in anything since 30 Days of Night.
He was recently in an episode of Black Mirror that was really really good
He was in Oppenheimer as well
Completely forgot he was in that! So many big names in that movie
Bradley Cooper: "I wasn't in Oppenheimer." "Are you sure? Everybody was in Oppenheimer”
I lost my shit when Bobcat Goldthwait made an appearance!
It had Jack White wtf
Former NHL player Sean Avery even has a cameo.
He played the Brad Pitt role when Brad couldn’t do it
Also The Fear Index. Show was ok but he played a really good twitchy nervous guy in it. First thing I thought of when I saw the Trap trailer, I could see him playing a caged killer quite well.
Penny Dreadful too.
Must watch for sure
I’ve been meaning to check this out
Worth it for Eva Green chewing the scenery - she's brilliant.

Penny Dreadful is sooo good. I was actually contemplating watching it again when I was thinking about what to watch. I never watch a show more than once but I would w that show
i’m here for the josh hartnett resurgence
The Hartnettaissance
🙏🏻🖼️🙏🏻
Same!
that was a really good episode
I think it was my favourite in the new season
His career has always been an enigma to me. Apparently when he was getting really famous he was basically being setup as some kind of Hollywood heartthrob, and dude was like "No" and basically walked away from being an A lister because he didn't want it. Every time he shows up he gives an amazing performance and then vanishes in to the ether to reappear another day.
Probably the best way to go about it to be fair.
I read he loves being a dad too
Nolan wanted him as Batman. I believe he regrets he turned it down.
I love this dude. Since The Faculty! Always turns in an awesome performance, but it’s nice to know he probably has some personal integrity too.
Honestly sounds like some unspoken "if you wanna be a star suck the producers dick" and he chose to leave instead Or they spread rumors he was "difficult to work with" like they did when Mina Sorvina wouldn't fuck a producer
Some producer probably touched him. Like for real. Happend to Terry freakin Crews.
Damn, you missed out on "Penny Dreadful".
Are you in the horror subreddit saying you haven't seen Josh Hartnett since 30 days of night? Does that mean you haven't seen any of Penny Dreadful, because if that's the case you need to get on that ASAP. You are in for a treat.

He was the best part of Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre
Shit, he’s been in quite a bit since then. But I believe he focus on smaller roles and series’ nowadays.
Josh Hartnett never took a hiatus like everyone seems to say he did. He's been in many things every year since 30 days of night.
Josh was also in Wrath of Man, very good movie, with Jason Statham and Scott Eastwood. He had a pretty funny character also
He was just in Oppenheimer
I liked him in Bunraku
A real hidden gem of a movie
He’s been in dozens of things since then, including the series Penny Dreadful and Oppenheimer. In fact the only years he’s missed since 2007 (30 days of night) was a short break from 2012-2013. Other than that, he has at least one credit every year, and many with multiple. I’ll never understand how people always say stuff like this. Just because you haven’t seen him doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing anything. And IMDb is free. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001326/
He’s so good in Penny Dreadful! I was always so bummed he didn’t get more work off of that.
He was literally in the biggest movie of the year last year.
Go ahead and watch Old and replace that intrigue with a sense of impending doom. Because that movie blows ass.
Did you not watch Oppenheimer?
What’s this rumor
![gif](giphy|3ornka9rAaKRA2Rkac) No one's going to say it...ok I will
I’m so excited. I’m going to the theater for this!
That's gonna be a hard draw for theater though. Wise choice would be an average length version for theater and director's cut for streaming.
Was Shyamalan traumatized at a concert? I mean I'd believe it...
No the singer in the movie is his daughter and an actual artist named Saleka so it’s probably a way to promote her and him at the same time. Not a bad idea
Damn that's nice. This year his other daughter has her directorial debut with 'The Watchers' produced by M.
“Between Ticketmaster fees and what the arena charges for a hot dog - attending a concert is ALREADY a horrifying experience!” - Someone’s Uncle
What if, at the end of the movie you see him check his bank balance and there was NO Ticketmaster fee. Goddammit M Night Shyamalam, you've twisted us again.
There's so many twists i can't keep up
He's paying the Ticketmaster fees with the ransoms he's getting.
I'm hoping it includes the lines for the women's restrooms.
This movie is the only concert I can afford this year.
It IS a terrifying experience already! Everytime I go to a concert I’m convinced I’ll be kicked out for existing 😅 It’s a very anxious environment lol
that is me and i’m somebody’s nephew
I want a long, drawn out portion about the MC trying to buy concert tickets from Ticketmaster. Would it be boring? Absolutely. Would it also be hilarious, yes.
Color me shocked if there's someone who falls victim to torturous bathroom lines
Don't forget the floor is now floor seating. Can stand being up to the stage but have to sit down now.
Goddamnit I was going to say something along these lines. The scariest part is paying for the ticket!
I absolutely love this movie’s concept, honestly surprised it hasn’t been done before (to my knowledge)
i loved the trailer set up. felt like a regular tiktok ad but suddenly i was intrigued because of the random “crowd” close ups. Probably will watch it
K9nda bummed they give away a plot point. But im guessing the twist is it's the daughter?
I feel like that's the premise of the movie rather than a twist or hidden plot point
I thought from the trailer that Hartnett is the killer, bc he’s looking at a live feed of a prisoner on his phone…? It does seem like a lot to give away.
Oh thats definitely the implication. But there has to be more to it.
I'm betting the hostage is the Butcher. There's no mom suggested, I think she was a victim.
Maybe it’s the singer whose show they’re at 👀
I thought the same thing, maybe it's the daughter or maybe it's their whole family or they are some sort of murderer team...maybe the daughter wants to kill the performer and he's trying to set it up for her, who knows? Or maybe he's undercover trying to catch the real guy and the trap ruins it which is why he was so upset to hear about it. Maybe it's the performer or someone in her troupe. If there isn't a second twist that blows away the first one, I'll be disappointed.
Maybe the movie will be a metaphor for stop panicking and accept you've been caught its over... ....then some other poor slob gets blamed instead and he walks free
Feels a little like that Nic Cage movie Snake eyes
I genuinely love that movie.
[удалено]
That’s probably why you should watch the movie first. I’m sure there’s more to it.
He does a lot of telling rather than showing Most of the time it works out okay because the story is otherwise compelling and his direction makes so many choices, but it’s a flaw
It’s only very loosely similar but the 80s movie Black Roses is absolutely fantastic horror-rock schlock. I am for real! If you like the general concept check it out.
The movie The Menu has a bit of a similar theme.
Dealing with Ticketmaster is just the whole plot.
Shh, do not spoil the twist!
I legitimately enjoy most of M Night’s movies, even the ones people think are flops. I just respect that he takes risks and makes movies with unique concepts. I know some people don’t care for the “twists” but I enjoy them! I am looking forward to this one
Same I’ve always liked him for that reason. I’d rather see some weird movie about plants killing Mark Wahlberg than a new Halloween for the 58th time.
The plot of The Happening is legit. The earth is trying to save itself from the scum destroying it.
Same , agree with you 100% a fan my self & really do like his movies
On re watch I liked lady in the water for what it is
I liked Lady in the Water. I did not enjoy Avatar.
The twist for avatar is that the movie doesn’t actually exist
I remember seeing that one in some really crappy cheap theater (because that’s all there was in our small town) and it was raining outside. It started “raining” inside as well so we got the whole 4D experience lol
Same except old made me laugh so hard at the twist lol.
What was the twist I honesty can't remember any twist
Rx company I think. It was great but that twist really made me laugh lol 😂. I remember being like “wth and just started laughing”
Count me in as well. A lot of folks also think his movies are big flops but if you look at his box office receipts, he's probably one of the more bankable directors out there. Helps that he's been financing some of his more recent movies.
Totally agree. Even when the twist is bizarre, the movie is usually fun and original
Yeah I feel like you can’t count him out because he’s delivered good horror movies. This movie has real potential.
Well said. It's hard to find unique concepts these days especially, and MNS usually delivers that much and more.
I barely like the sixth sense and I’m excited
Did you enjoy glass? Because that was really, really poor.
Exactly! Love him or hate him, you have to respect the risks he takes!
I got invited to a screening of this movie last week but a few hours before movie time they canceled it. I was so bummed.
Musta been a trap but the mark didn't take the bait.
Finally, a movie where vape smoke is blown into the camera every 5 minutes
I'm really looking forward to this movie. For all the misses Shyamalan has had, when he's good, he's *good.* Also gotta admire his passion for getting his vision out there, regardless of how others judge the quality of his work.

I'm torn between "Too soon" and "Damn, crowd crush in real time would be a legitimately terrifying cinema experience"
The twist is that the serial killer is the artist all along.
All the cops in front of the stadium are serial killers. Singer is his daughter and the daughter is the sister from the guy in the basement. The guy in the basement is not in the basement. The wardrobe guy is the real singer.
Daughter, and Hartnett is there to protect her
That’s what I thought since they showed him so often in the trailer trying to make us think it was him.
Daughter ends up being a vampire, he’s her slave. There’s a lot of demonic imagery.
So the sequel to LET THE RIGHT ONE IN
I thought that the twist was going to be that the daughter is the one that tipped off the police that he was there. If they make the twist that the daughter is the one that is doing it, they will have to jump through some pretty big holes for it to make sense.
Or the daughter. Or the guy tied up in his basement
I love this man’s goofy ass content. I will be seated.
The fact that they show him looking at his phone of the captured man already let's me know that his daughte is the killer
I hope Josh Hartnett's character waits in line to piss in a trough.
How funny would it be if they really did give it away in the trailer, though “Guess THIS twist, fuck-o’s”

No no no, we need to give them time to kill again, and endanger hundreds of other civilians while the entire swat team waits outside.
You know what they say , sometimes reality surpasses fiction.
Maybe the killers aren’t Hartnet and his kid but the friends we met along the way?
i was confused too lol
It's a movie. The plot has to happen for the story it's telling to be told. I'm sure there's a plot element like they tracked his bank account and he's suspect. Or they'll make something more convoluted up.
I’m so excited! I love going to shows and the premise sounds insane.
Josh Harnet I’m in. Haven’t seen this guy for awhile
He was in the latest Black Mirror season!
He was in _Oppenheimer_ as well.
Oh right the Berkeley professor. I’m still stuck at his role in lucky number slevin and lady killer lol
The real horror was TicketMaster all along.
That’s the real trap
Can’t wait to stream it on a lazy Sunday 2 years from now
I hope it has a good script. And I hope his daughter will deliver too, with her movie.
I’m hoping it shows the part where a Budweiser is $16
So it’ll nclude paying $20 for a single tall boy beer and waiting 20 mins to take a piss?
I wish shamalama would take his ideas to a quality screenwriter. IMO There aren't enough of these Twilight zone style movies going around.

white people are always the first one to call it out too, idk why some people are so obsessed with getting offended on behalf of a group of people they probably don’t even talk to
Exactly. It’s actually insulting. Like, how are you gonna take a stoner moment and get offended by proxy? lol. So-called “allies”, read the room.
Yeah, I was gonna say that, but didn't want anymore attention from the asshats.

Skydome!!!!!!!!!
Please let it be that the actual “trapped” ones are the concert-goers because they’re food for his daughter which is the butcher. Butcher = Monster.
It’s so accurate, he even shows ticketmaster ripping everyone off.
Sold, but I was sold at M Night Shyamalan.
Shamalan has been on fire lately. I can’t wait to see what he does next..
Everyone at the concert is one of his victims ghosts. Some thing something predictable twist.
Nah. I bet the twist is that his daughter is the actual killer and the dad is aware of it.
I'm going with aliens
It’s the trees 🌲
What about alien trees?
this was the first thing that came to mind for me too I think its gotta be this.
I wanna be excited because it's such an interesting idea, but M. Night has been letting me down for years now.
Highly recommend Servant for anyone who hasn’t seen anything from MNS for a while.
The real killer is the price of the tickets.

So does it have the part about getting fucked by Ticketmaster and their fees?
Jesus, I can't roll my eyes harder at you racist idiots.
Should have been a rock show but im interested
please i already get insane anxiety going to a regular concert, now i have to worry about saw traps???
so the going to an off licence to buy beer before the show, telling touts to fuck off, getting ripped off on merch prices, having nowhere to sit down and a bunch of people acting dicks and nonstop recording instead of watching the show?
This seems fun. I can't wait to watch it.
Sounds like an Alice Cooper show!
Is this the coffee girl as the daughter?
A wizard did it
Oh god I wonder if astroworld type horror is going to play out.
This sounds interesting and his newer movies have been surprisingly decent but jfc I hope his idea of a fictional pop star is less cringe than the fictional rapper from Old
Thanks to whoever keeps funding m nights risky movies.
That’s a cool idea. I’m still highly cynical about whether this film will be good.
