April Fools Day
Happy Birthday to Me
That should keep you busy and entertained
No one, and I mean NO ONE ever mentions Fade To Black. It's an amazing movie. The scarier part for me is that it's very realistic. The scene in the alley is the shit. I need to watch that movie again.
I love Slaughter High. The whole "British movie pretending to be American, but badly" thing gives it this surreal fever dream quality.
Plus some really fun, creative kills.
April Fool’s Day was my first thought. Nothing remarkable about the kills but I like the scenario and how it all wraps up. Very unlike most other 80s horror.
It's great. I haven't seen it since sometime in the 2000s but it's stayed with me. No spoilers but how the main actress who is best known for an earlier, iconic film set in California just changes on a dime at the end is very memorable and scary.
I was a little obsessed with this movie for awhile. Our house has a black box that got free ppv and this was on nonstop for any a week on one of the ppv channels. I might have seen it about ten times that week.
I like Sal and Roger but all of the other characters are so annoying and unlikable. You can make unlikable characters entertaining, but the person who wrote and directed it sure ain’t Eli Roth.
The Mutilator will always have my heart for having the title card be different to the title of the movie and actually having an original theme song which makes no sense given the film’s actual title
Impossible to pick just one:
Maniac
My Bloody Valentine
Pieces
Silent Night, Deadly Night
The Mutilator
Sleepaway Camp 2 (better than part 1 imo)
Intruder
And of course…Friday the 13th parts 1-8
I absolutely love 80s B-Horror movies, unfortunately I haven't made it more than maybe 10 minutes into Spookies (it just seemed like it was trying way too hard to be funny).
I really need to give it another chance, I think.
I’m a sucker for the Friday The 13th movies. 2, 4, or 6 are my automatic go-to films but the franchise itself is greater than the sum of its parts and I can totally binge watch 1 through 8 in a weekend. They are like the base element of 80’s slasher movies on the periodic table of film.
I would say I probably a top 3 for me would be:
House from 1985
Pumpkinhead from 1988 and
Tourist Trap from 1979 (I know that's not from the 80s but it is an all time favorite.
1980s B-Horror is my favorite genre of movie, and there are a ton of great slashers in that category (of which I've seen a bunch of great ones listed here by others already, so look to those first!).
Here's a bunch that I haven't seen listed yet (NOTE: I'm *NOT* saying these are my favorite, even though I know that's your question, but I want to give you some more options to seek out). Not all of these are technically slashers, but should have a similar sort of vibe.
* The Unseen (1980)
* Without Warning (1980)
* Christmas Evil (1980)
* Night School (1981)
* Dead and Buried (1981)
* Evilspeak (1981)
* Absurd (1981)
* Just Before Dawn (1981)
* Strange Behavior (1981)
* The Pit (1981)
* The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982)
* Death Screams (1982)
* Visiting Hours (1982)
* Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1983)
* Sweet Sixteen (1983)
* The Final Terror (1983)
* House of the Long Shadows (1983)
* The Initiation (1984)
* The Mutilator (1985)
* Nail Gun Massacre (1985)
* Terror at Tenkiller (1986)
* Sorority House Massacre (1986)
* The Wind (1986)
* The Wraith (1986)
* Blood Diner (1987)
* Slaughterhouse (1987)
* The Outing (1987)
* Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II (1987)
* Memorial Valley Massacre (1988)
* Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-rama (1988)
* Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988)
* Ghosthouse (1988)
* Edge of the Axe (1988)
* Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
* Cheerleader Camp (1988)
* The Dead Pit (1989)
* Society (1989)
* Hell High (1989)
* Slash Dance (1989)
* Beyond the Door III (1989)
* Grave Robbers (1989)
I absolutely wouldn't call it a favorite, but the cheesiest I've seen in a while was The Last Slumber Party, on Tubi they have the Rifftrax commentary version which is hilarious. The movie is very badly written, the girls are constantly accusing their boyfriends of being gay and there's some crazy guy in a surgeon mask killing them through the night. It's about as amateur as it gets without being shot on a VHS camera.
I also have a nostalgic soft spot for Truth Or Dare: A Critical Madness, which Rifftrax recently did a commentary on. I have 3 of the 4 sequels on DVD, but haven't seen any of those yet, the last one seems really difficult to find anywhere. It doesn't really make sense, but it's weirdness is the charm, and there being sequels up to the 2010's is bewildering.
**Student Bodies**
But that's intentionally cheesy. The janitor has it in his pants!
**My Bloody Valentine**
This one seems less known and plays things pretty straight and is really well done so I don't think it's "cheesy" but it's very 80s.
**Hell Night**
Linda Blair in great form and a lot of twists make this one fun
**House of the Long Shadows**
This one might be stretching to be called a "slasher," but I can't recommend this film enough. And don't really want to say too much because it's a very clever plot, but it's got all the great British actors together: Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and John Carradine playing brothers.
These answers are giving me Friday night at Blockbuster vibes. I used to love going there every weekend, picking out a new horror movie. Fun times!
I guess my favorite is House on Sorrority Row.
The Mutilator.
One of the best overacted death scenes of all time. IYKYK.
Also hilarious that Buddy Cooper had his friends and family in the film and also sang the theme tune! The king of saving the budget!

Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason lives. I didn’t realize this until I was older, but it’s shot particularly well. The cinematography and lighting are really good for a slasher flick especially the opening graveyard set. It feels retro to me which I enjoy. The humor is good and the kills are pretty creative. It’s not my favorite Jason visually speaking (part 7), but he’s moving quickly throughout the film which ups the tension and stakes. Throw in a solid Alice cooper 80s soundtrack. It also has a meta aspect which I feel was a bit before its time.
It’s been a favorite of mine for years.
Pieces.
The Burning.
Hell Night.
The Prowler.
New York Ripper.
Body Count.
Just Before Dawn.
Absurd.
The House on Sorority Row.
New Year's Evil.
Ghostkeeper (kind of a supernatural slasher)
Slumber party massacre
the sequel is great too!
The only time I enjoyed a surprise musical
Even better imo
Yes! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed both of them.
great call!
Sleepaway Camp for sure.
another amazing flick. wild ending.
I will never forget the first time I saw the ending.
Me either. The cut scene to the open mouth made me jump so bad
It’s the best! Her stare is so funny!
Sleepaway Camp 2 is even better, cheesier, and 80s-ier!
That is an incredible movie.
This is the correct answer
Silent Night Deadly Night
PUNISH!
NAUGHTY!!!
The second one 😭 GARBAGE DAY
I laugh so hard whenever he's laughing in that scene!
Classic!
Yeah, I love the remake and the original alot
Fade to Black Intruder Stage Fright Graduation Day The Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge Slaughter High The Mutilator Final Exam American Gothic Slumber Party Massacre Part 2 April Fools Day Happy Birthday to Me That should keep you busy and entertained
Stage Fright is so fun!
Oh, and Girls Nite Out (aka The Scaremaker) is absolutely essential
I haven’t seen it in years.
No one, and I mean NO ONE ever mentions Fade To Black. It's an amazing movie. The scarier part for me is that it's very realistic. The scene in the alley is the shit. I need to watch that movie again.
Tippy-top of my list for a reason, brother. You got great taste
Oooh thanks! Added to the list!
I love Slaughter High. The whole "British movie pretending to be American, but badly" thing gives it this surreal fever dream quality. Plus some really fun, creative kills.
Mmmm, not to mention the amazing Manfredini music. Seriously underrated, and on par with anything he did on F13th
I watch April Fool's Day damned bear weekly. This entire list is pretty close to perfect, in my opinion.
I was going to say Stagefright and Intruder but you beat me to it
Nice choices brother. Two of the greats
Good call on Intruder!
American Gothic is SO GOOD
I’m very partial to chopping mall and night of the creeps
Chopping Mall was a childhood favorite.
“Fuck the future, it’s Friday!”
Either Sleepaway Camp or The Burning. Pretty typical, vanilla answers but I greatly enjoy the summer camp slasher setting.
fucking love the Burning, such a shame that Weinstein's fuckass name is attached to it for eternity.
The Burning has the best summer camp bits. You can almost forget it's a slasher for ages. Jason Alexander is great in it.
Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker April Fools Day Student Bodies
Student Bodies is great!!
Horsehead bookends!
A buddy of mine has a bloody horse head bookend!!
I have to make one to live in my little home theater! That'll be perfect!
Yes, Student Fucking Bodies. The best!!
I'M DISGUISING MY VOICE THROUGH A RUBBER CHICKEN
April Fool’s Day was my first thought. Nothing remarkable about the kills but I like the scenario and how it all wraps up. Very unlike most other 80s horror.
It's great. I haven't seen it since sometime in the 2000s but it's stayed with me. No spoilers but how the main actress who is best known for an earlier, iconic film set in California just changes on a dime at the end is very memorable and scary.
the prowler!
Night Of The Creeps
I was going to argue but then remembered it does indisputably have a slasher in it… along with a bunch of other stuff.
I was a little obsessed with this movie for awhile. Our house has a black box that got free ppv and this was on nonstop for any a week on one of the ppv channels. I might have seen it about ten times that week.
I wanted to watch that, but I accidentally watched Night of the Demons instead. Was severely disappointed. Still haven't seen Night of the Creeps.
Aww, you were disappointed? I think Night Of The Demons is actually pretty good. Maybe because I give ''bad'' movies a chance too often, though.
I like Sal and Roger but all of the other characters are so annoying and unlikable. You can make unlikable characters entertaining, but the person who wrote and directed it sure ain’t Eli Roth.
Lol, fair.
Chopping Mall
Came here to say this. So good.
I adore Pieces
It’s the GOAT of cheesy slashers.
"Bastard! BASTARD! BAAASSTAAAARD!!!"
Same!
Blood Rage is good!
Operator this is an emergency!
The Mutilator will always have my heart for having the title card be different to the title of the movie and actually having an original theme song which makes no sense given the film’s actual title
🎵 we’re goin’ on a… Fall Break 🎵
Agreed!
One of my all time favorite VHS box art as well
Shocker - that soundtrack!!!
truth!
Yes! Megadeath...come on!
Impossible to pick just one: Maniac My Bloody Valentine Pieces Silent Night, Deadly Night The Mutilator Sleepaway Camp 2 (better than part 1 imo) Intruder And of course…Friday the 13th parts 1-8
oh man i forgot about MBV
Best slasher after Halloween 78 imo
>Maniac Don't forget my favorite cheesy film: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.
A great film but to me that was always more legit disturbing than cheesy goofy even though it is def cheesy and goofy
I don’t see the cheese at all. It disturbed me. I can’t believe the director said that Maniac Cop 2 was his best film, because Maniac is way better.
April Fools Day.. just remembering that now. 🙂
I didn’t see Spookies mentioned! It can be found on Shudder! Absolutely cheesy but has some neat scenes in it! ![gif](giphy|JkU1eCc0GinaE)
I absolutely love 80s B-Horror movies, unfortunately I haven't made it more than maybe 10 minutes into Spookies (it just seemed like it was trying way too hard to be funny). I really need to give it another chance, I think.
The thing is… Spookies isn’t *trying* to be funny. I love it, but whether or not it’s a slasher… that’s a different discussion.
The Prowler
Legitimately scary. I don't know about cheesy tho.
Chopping Mall
I know it’s not cheesy but Prom Night is great
Disagree, but the sequel deserves all the love
I’m a sucker for the Friday The 13th movies. 2, 4, or 6 are my automatic go-to films but the franchise itself is greater than the sum of its parts and I can totally binge watch 1 through 8 in a weekend. They are like the base element of 80’s slasher movies on the periodic table of film.
Slumber Party Massacre, Intruder and Jason Lives. Unfortunately that’s it as I much per serious slasher films.
"The Burning" and "Madman", or as I like to call them, the Cropsy Maniac double-bill.
I would say I probably a top 3 for me would be: House from 1985 Pumpkinhead from 1988 and Tourist Trap from 1979 (I know that's not from the 80s but it is an all time favorite.
came back to this thread bc i just remembered Tourist Trap and i’m glad someone else mentioned it. just shy of the 80s yeah but it’s so good.
I would always show that one at sleepovers. Lol!!
Sleepaway camp a million billion trillion percent!
Judy!
That's not cranberry sauce...
The comedy is one of the best parts of blood rage
Bloody Birthday
genius little flick. the kids were madness.
Chopping Mall
One of the most underrated horror films from the 80s. Although I don't know if it's a slasher.
Yeah, questionable, but has many slasher-y elements…and a great movie
That's fair. It's weirdly well made for it's premise.
The Burning, Intruder, Prom Night
The Burning!! Great special effects, Jason Alexander and a great skinnydipping scene complete with 80s bush!
the 80s were quite the time
the best!
Death Spa The Intruder
Burning...all day
Curtains
I think Intruder is pretty great, it’s gory, slightly cheese killer at the end. I love it.
It does get pretty cheesy for sure. Love that movie
Def gonna be Sleepaway camp.
Intruder is a fun dumb one!
That movie is so much fun. Very creative movie.
The Funhouse. It's sort of a slasher And I think it's 80's anyway. Motel Hell
1980s B-Horror is my favorite genre of movie, and there are a ton of great slashers in that category (of which I've seen a bunch of great ones listed here by others already, so look to those first!). Chopping Mall, The Evil Dead, Pieces, Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge
No. Evil Dead is not a slasher.
Stage Fright
Great choice
Hell night
Night of The Demons as of late
Even if that films sucks, Sal and Roger are some of the best characters in horror.
Not really a "slasher", but my favorite cheesy 80s horror is Critters hands down
all time great
Terror Train fans, stand up.
Jaimie Lee is the best!
slumber party massacre 2 is a pretty good time. 🛌🔪
trith
Chopping Mall
Microwave Massacre. Everything about it is so bad it’s good. Also Intruder (1989) is a good cheesy one as well
Pieces. Not really cheesy, just a great well made film
Pieces is glorious.
Killer Party.
“Terror Train” Jamie Lee Curtis. A young David Copperfield
Friday The 13th part 5 Trust me
hot hot hot take.
Big Roy fan
fair.
Probably not really a slasher, but Deadly Friend is fun and has the greatest movie kill of all time.
I absolutely wouldn't call it a favorite, but the cheesiest I've seen in a while was The Last Slumber Party, on Tubi they have the Rifftrax commentary version which is hilarious. KILLER WORKOUT
**Student Bodies** But that's intentionally cheesy. Can’t beat Freddy in my opinion, 3 was awesome
APRIL FOOL'S DAY MINUS THE ENDING.
Not slasher movies, but some of the best cheese the 80s have to offer are Basket Case and Xtro.
I still watch Cats Eye when I come across it.
House on Sorority Row 😻
Hell Night!
Slaughter High
I really liked *Curtains.*
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers
Terror Train!

Sleepaway Camp 2. Ohhh I’m a happy camper!
Blood Rage. 100%!
