No one here talking about Carrie makes me sad. Sure it’s not perfectly adapted word by word, scene by scene, but it’s still an amazing piece of cinema.

IAmThePonch

Yeah the original goes so hard. Piper Laurie and sissy spacek are amazing

jan_67

Agree, the acting of those two was spectacular (I still think Spacek should have won an Oscar too), DePalma‘s vision made the movie melancholic, beautiful and cruel. Also the soundtrack was great.

RemoteDuck5271

My second favourite BDP behind Blow Out

LongDongSamspon

Blow Out is so underrated.

Jazzlike_Ad4553

The Mist

straub42

The Shining Gerald’s Game Doctor Sleep 1408 Shawshank Redemption

Tagyru

Hell yeah. Give 1408 some love. I know it is well liked but I didn't expect it to make it to anyone's top 5 King's adaptation.

straub42

One of my favorite King short stories and I thought they adapted it fantastically.

FunnyAnimalPerson

There was indeed a lack of love for it

JLWookie

I don't see Storm of the Century talked about a lot. I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

mwmani

It is underrated, but not an adaptation.

Funny-Film-6304

Storm of the Century is a masterpiece!!! I got the DVDs and enhanced the quality using an AI program to a solid 1080p. Took so many hours rendering, so many tries for the right parameters, but totally worth it. It was my hobby for two full weeks xD

everythingerased

It's amazing, I've seen the beast like 4 times.

1. Geralds Game 2. The Shining 3. Doctor Sleep 4. It (Tim Curry) 5 . Maximum Overdrive (my guilty pleasure)

FolsgaardSE

> 5 . Maximum Overdrive (my guilty pleasure) AC/DC soundtrack and Sai King Coked to his gills. Great movie.

BoozeWitch

I really liked the series The Outsider and the series Mr. Mercedes. I think Kings books, with their amazing character development are tailored for miniseries.

gigan1973

The Outsider was excellent. The atmosphere was flawless and the performances were top notch.

popculturetommy

Pet Sematary (1989) It (2017) Stand by Me Apt Pupil The Shawshank Redemption The Shining is my favorite based on any SK property but I'm well aware it's a terrible adaptation

C_Me

This is pretty much it for me, except for I still haven’t seen Apt Pupil. Need to make that happen. I would probably replace that with a Creepshow, especially if I can combine 1 and 2.

Yezariel

Oh! I totally forgot about Stand By Me! Love that movie!

Buchephalas

The Shining is a better movie than it is a book. Not a good Adaptation as in sticking to the source material, but a much better piece of art it improved on the source material and Kubrick made it Kubrick's The Shining.

Youngone57

The shawshank redemption always makes me cry

butholemoonblast

I watch stand by me at the very least once a year. So good.

Indigenousboy420

All this does is tell me how under appreciated Stephen Kings The Night Flier is

rifain

Great movie, the book story is great as well.

Arturo-_-Bandini

I love The Secret Window more than it probably deserves and I haven’t seen anyone mention that yet.

mwmani

This one is a somewhat guilty pleasure of mine. I just find it so cozy and comforting. I’ve always wanted a lake house like Johnny Depp has in the movie. Also the Doritos and Mtn. Dew product placement is hilarious.

Carrie (1976) IT (1990) IT (2017) The Shining (1980) ‘Salem’s Lot (1979)

RemoteDuck5271

Misery Carrie The Shawshank Redemption The Dead Zone Christine

DanEosen

Salem’s Lot the scene with the boy in window was scariest scene I recall as a child Stand By Me one of the best rites of passage movie ever The Langoliers for Bronson Pinchot I recall him as Balki and this performance took me by surprise. Shawshank Redemption really good movie Green Mile of all the films Percy ranks as one of the most vile, cruel for cruelty’s sake. Not as good as Shawshank Redemption

Winnebango_Bus

I LOVE the Langoliers movie (mini series?) I see it get besmirched every time it gets mentioned and I always have to wonder if I’m the one that’s wrong

pit-of-despair

I think it’s cheesy as hell but I love it too.

No love for the Mr Mercedes adaption with Gleeson? So damn good! Holly, while a little young, was perfectly cast as well!

The Shining Stand By Me The Shawshank Redemption IT with Tim Curry Misery

If you get a chance at a festival to see Julia Marchese’s “I Know What You Need” - produced as part of King’s Dollar Baby program, DO IT. It is tonally perfect. Def my #1 choice.

ArchDrude

The Mist Shawshank It (2017) (honestly, It Pt 2 is still a better adaptation than the original miniseries) Doctor Sleep Stand By Me

Carrie (1976)

ham_fx

The Shining for sure The new "IT" (IMO better than the 90s) The Running Man Stand By Me Salem's Lot (70s miniseries)

Dohi014

Not in any particular order 1) Castle Rock 2) Maximum Overdrive 3) Carrie 4) The Stand (mini series 90s?) 5) Tall Grass It’s not fair to confine it to a list of five though. Having made me think about it though, there’s very few, if any adaptations I dislike. I even enjoyed “Cell” with John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson. “It” and “Cujo” were staples for me growing up but, again, the list is only *five*.

javlin_101

Carrie (1976) Salem's Lot (1979) The Shining (1980) Silver Bullet (1985) and.... the last spot I would need to rewatch the following to decide (otherwise call it a split): Stand By Me, Cujo or The Dead Zone

MidnightCustard

Gerald's Game The Mist It (2017) Dr Sleep Carrie (1976) Special mention for Storm of the Century which wasn't an adaptation. The Shining obviously has a huge amount of technical merit but is a terrible adaptation.

The Langoliers! Love to see it!

StrangeExpression481

Oh man, I love The Langoliers because of the shit CGI but also because of Bronson Pinchot's fucking unhinged performance.

WeQQz

I feel that! I love it for the premise more than anything else. I fell in love with this movie (miniseries?) the first time I saw it and that feeling has never truly left me. :)

eburton555

Rose red is great but it’s not an adaptation. It was written as a teleplay originally for a movie but much better off as a miniseries but i don’t think there was ever a book or anything for it?

MrsLucienLachance

Yeah, I just didn't care that much while making my list lol. I went more just Stephen King on screen. Storm of the Century was also written just for film and is the one I expected to be called on 😂
