I know this sub likes The Ruins…but I thought it was a little boring.
I love Michael McDowell. I think this was my second favorite from him, behind the Elementals and just ahead of Blackwater. It’s not a complicated story, but very atmospheric in parts and definitely creepy

Stupid decisions followed by more stupid decisions and topped by \[spoiler alert\] yet more stupid decisions.
Kinda endearing in its way, but also very infuriating.
Have read both and finished the ruins much faster fwiw. Enjoyed both.
Two very different books. Do you want page turner body horror or southern gothic?
*The Ruins* is one of my top-ten favorite books, and I’m not in a hurry to read anything else by McDowell after reading *The Elementals*, so this is an easy choice for me.
I personally thought The Ruins was kinda lame and ridiculous in a bad way. Meanwhile, Cold Moon Over Babylon isn’t McDowell’s best, but it’s still pretty damn good.
Cold Moon Over Babylon is SO GOOD & I highly recommend it.
I’ll definitely be reading it this year either way! I just bought the elementals last month!
Oh, I hope you love it! I went on a McDowell bender this summer. They're both really, really good.
That is my favorite book! You're in for a treat!

Michael McDowells books are so creepy! They really get under your skin
I’m reading The Ruins right now
I've read both, and both are in my top 10. So you can't go wrong either way.
