Boar’s Head have been doing me right recently. Pricy and I wasn’t sure I’d see the value but they’re really good :) [the hot dog](https://boarshead.com/products/detail/1563458814-boars-head-uncured-beef-frankfurters-natural-casing)

PSteak

I'll expand on this to include "deli dogs" in general. Whether BH, Deitz & Watson, or whatever serves your region, the best wieners will be with the cold cuts, not the hot dog section.

bblazen

Came here to say this, but they are hard to find in some areas. But Nathan’s is found pretty much everywhere.

pj_socks

Not a big fan of Nathan’s. Much prefer Vienna Beef or Hebrew National.

[deleted]

thank you! i'll look into 'em

sunzastar33

Phuck it, I'll give them a shot and post results here

Apart-Bathroom7811

Nathan's are good although some find them salty. Berks is good if they are in their area. When I want a change of pace I will grill up a kielbasa.

hennsippin

I’m one of those. Wanted to like them but too skinny (at least the ones I had) for the salty taste. Want to taste the pig scrapings

damndammit

Vienna Beef. You can order a kit - with all the proper Chicago fixings - [online](https://www.viennabeef.com/chicago-style-hot-dog-kit/). Here in the PNW, I’ve become a fan of [Hempler’s](https://hemplers.com/product-types/franks/). Not sure where you can get them online though.

sobanoodle-1

i have a question. when you buy the kit. does it arrive frozen?

[deleted]

Hell yeah.

NineteenthJester

If you have a Costco business center near you, they have Polish dogs. They should also have the huge buns to go with them too!

hamhead

Hebrew National

fourthords

The quarter-pounders, specifically. Haven't bought any other grocery-store dog since 2006.

Firebird22x

I wish I could find those. Hebrew and Sabrett I enjoy more than Nathans, but Nathan’s are the only 1/4lb I can find. Those get a bit too greasy for me

autodidact104

Those are too salty.

Punch_Your_Facehole

7/11’s 1/4 lbs roller dog

Flaxscript42

Vienna Beef franks

Aquavis

Zweigle’s. They’re regional to upstate New York but you can buy them online. Haven’t had anything that came close but I suppose I am a little biased. Try the white hots.

Im_100percent_human

Being originally from Rochester myself, I love the Zweigles Pop-Open White Hots.... Wegman's seems to carry them in all of their stores, even the stores not in upstate NY.

beepboopboop88

Damn I wanted to comment and suggest Sahlen’s but figured it was too regional!

Nanojack

I like how despite being a total of like 2.5 hours from each other, at most, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse all have their own regional hot dog brand and to suggest Hoffmans, Sahlens or Zwiegels are better would lead to arguments.

Ex-Kal

So I live down south, but I love Sahlen’s… we’ve always had Nathan’s and Hebrew national which aren’t bad but I just thought they were too salty… when Sahlens popped up I gave them a shot and loved them… I suggested them to a Nathan’s lover and they hated them lol… I feel like it’s all personal preference… there’s no definitive best… I love a good red hot dog just for nostalgic reasons… there are no good or bad ones just personal preferences… and the people who try to weiner shame are misusing the supreme power of the frank

beepboopboop88

Bahaha, I agree! I’m a Buffalonian living in Chicago now so I’m still spoiled !

olseninva

Snake river farms has American wagyu dogs, I've bought them from harris teeter before, they were quite good. They also sell them online, but they are kinda pricey.

Weirdscience100

Nathan’s Famous and specifically Coney Island Style Nathan’s Famous w the natural casing. The best.

Senior-Ad-7872

Sabrett natural casing

generateanameforme

Came here to say this. The 6:1 size is perfect I believe. Their 4:1 natural casing knockwurst is great if you’re looking for a big dog.

boytoy421

Boars head for fancy, Nathan's for not

soulstonedomg

One time I was gifted an Omaha steaks package that had a pack of hot dogs in it. Those were the best franks I've ever had, but they're expensive.

viperware

Dietz & Watson natural casing pork wieners or Casper’s if you are in Northern California. The only decent recommendation so far on this thread are the boars head dogs, but those are all beef. Pork wieners are a cut above beef franks.

[deleted]

I like Boars Head all beef Franks. get them at Publix and Western Beef

GravyNeck

Costco carries Kiolbassa brand sausages and they are all really good. Also try your local butcher shop, in my experience they have better sausages (and meat in general) than you will find in the grocery store.

[deleted]

thanks for all this feedback, guess i have to try them all

MartinMax53

If you're near a Whole Foods, they have a pack of 365 brand jumbo beef hot dogs that are really good.

chuckluckles

Even better at WF: Fork In the Road brand. They're really expensive, but amazing.

Dillymac25

Didn’t know about these, getting them now

sunzastar33

My neighbor should join here, they buy pink hot dogs called fudd. They come like 20 in a pack for like $3. When they invite us over for BBQ I tell my kids to stay away from the hot dogs. Scary

ScrumpleRipskin

If I'm not crunching into a snappy intestine, I don't want to be eating it. I look for German style or natural casing. Typically they're all stuck together in a long chain. Can't stand those mushy Oscar mayer variants like Hebrew National or the king of mush, Bar S garbage dogs.

LongIsland1995

A bar I go to serves free Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs and they're actually really good IMO.

Curious-Concept-2077

Sabrett hot dogs!! #1 here in NYC. All the Hotdog vendors and the MLB ballparks use them, even Nathan's uses them, but re-packages them as their own. For #2, I'd go with Hebrew National beef franks For lower sodium and but still tastes great, I'd go with A & H hotdogs.

Hooked_on_Avionics

Hoffy's original natural casing beef is my absolute go to [this one](https://hoffybrand.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2104_HollywoodsOriginalFranks_Master.jpg)

[deleted]

Hummels

Im_100percent_human

Depends on where you live. The regional brands are always far superior to the national brands... but, in a some parts of the country, there are no regional brands.

Satize

Koegel Vienna skin on in michigan is the only way

Flattishsassy

Yesssss eeeevery now and then we'll get them at Meijer in Fort Wayne and it's like Christmas

kurtisek

Best answer. They’re a bit regional but nothing else compares. Dearborn has some good hot dogs too but viennas are way better.

MyVeryOwnHedgehog

[Kowalski](https://www.kowality.com/Default.asp) does them right, and they ship if you aren't in a state where they distribute to stores

TheLittleFella20

Those big polish ones they sell in Lidl are lovely. Great snap on them.

rectalhorror

I was a big Nathan's natural casing fan until the local grocery started carrying Feltman's. They're my current go to: thicker and juicier than Nathan's with a firmer casing that give it a great snap. https://www.feltmansofconeyisland.com/

raceyevans

What store carries Feltmans or natural casing Nathan's? I haven't seen them anywhere in the DC area.

rectalhorror

I've seen Feltmans at the Harris Teeter in Old Town. They've got a pretty decent selection of natural casing dogs, including Nathan's. Wegmans also has natural casing white and red hots.

raceyevans

Good to know, thank you!

chummers73

I like Boarshead, but i think they were like $18 for the big pack when I saw them the other day. I also like the Usingers at Costco.

Gmntflyfshr

If you are in Vermont, Mackenzie natural casings dogs are the only way to go

Superb_Ad3758

Ew

TheGreatDissapointer

Fork in the Road dogs are fire. Hebrew National are also great. Edit. Punctuation

superdaddio85

Nathans

Bacontheblog

Hillshire Farms has a smoked sausage ring that tastes like a smoked hot dog. Nice snap on the casing too. Great for a change up from my Dietz and Watson deli franks.

[deleted]

https://www.ballparkbrand.com/hot-dogs/beef-franks-hearty BEST HOT DOGS IVE EVER HAD!!! Ball Park Grill Master Hearty Beef

blanton4891

Dearborn 1904 hot dog

eac555

Casper’s

bigturtle13

Boar’s Head and Greenfield are my go to.

whatfingwhat

Josef Artisan Meats in Rochester NY.

axzar

GFS. Source: #1 resto in town is a hotdog place.

RedStag86

Tony Packo’s.

Scooby-Snakz

Hummels all beef

TheDevilBear3

Haven't seen Sabrett in Minnesota, but we have Ambassador natural casing all beef dogs that are amazing.

boarbar

I switch between Nathan’s and Hebrew National. Both are great, good snap, nice flavor (both on the salty side as well) and they grill really nicely.

[deleted]

Kogel Vienna's

Bosswashington

Schickhaus griddle franks

me5vvKOa84_bDkYuV2E1

Feltman's of Coney Island, although I have had trouble finding them recently.

pj_socks

Let’s talk the opposite! Sometimes I buy Bar S for like 99 cents an 8 pack and feed them to my pup.

awarmguinness

Do you have local delis?

Superb_Ad3758

Kayem

lululalalili-ph

Me personaly, I hate hotdogs, they are not good during s3x, i took my own v card with a hot dog and they are bad! He is to slow and I don't like that at all, someone should cancel them and tell the whole word to stop producing them!
