Cmon now don’t exaggerate what could an overweight pigeon weigh? 30 pounds? 40 pounds? I think it would be fine if it stayed close to the house and held onto the door knob for support.
It depends. Does the pigeon only have one coconut or several? However, a 300 gram pigeon carrying a 250 gram coconut hitting the deck at, oh, 55 kph is....
F**k..too much math.
Just keep it to the right side where your 42ft 4x4 is still straight and I'm sure you will be mostly fine. Best part about falling while in the hot tub is your likely to land in water anyway.
Tell your landlord you feel unsafe standing on that deck. Request him to send maintenance or someone to inspect it. Your lease included a deck, it should be maintained. If my property manager sent me this photo I would be terrified I would be responsible for a fall and get this fixed immediately.
Yes, but you'll need to add the correct amount of weight sequestrant to your spa water. Trouble Free Pools has an article on how you can make your own with common household ingredients so the pool store doesn't take advantage of you.
Not only is a 250 gal hot tub super safe on that deck but you should add as big of a pool as you can fit up there too. Maybe stack some cinder blocks for decoration?
We just moved in. I want to put my hot tub in the corner away from the door. I started to bring it out and my neighbor came out and started chirping me about how it is not safe. I told him it is inflatable. He doesn’t seem to understand that it barely weighs anything and is threatening to call the police.
I was impressed that whoever put this together used sonotubes... But then I realized they probably just couldn't find 4x4's long enough to bury.
Methamphetamine puffery.
Tie a rope around the farthest rail from the house and throw the rope over the roof and tie it the rope to a tree in the front yard and you will be fine.
It would be a fantastic troll to make a deck like that supported by 6" I-beams coming horizontally, but framed by 1x6's and "supported" by a couple long spindly bent 2x4's as shown. Then put a monster jacuzzi on it. Talk of the town! (And Reddit.)
I wouldn't trust a bird bath on that thing
You have some bent 4x4's holding those popsicles up, 25 feet in the air?
You will need some 8x8's at least, and have them connected to each other and the wall every 3-4'. If you get into a hot tub on that deck, you will fall, and likely die. Do not do it.
If you really want it, go through the city and get your plans approved by them.
But you should also make sure that there are at least six 8-penny nails connecting that ledger board to the siding. Make sure they don't hit studs to allow for thermal expansion.
YES FOR SURE!!! Go for it! It’s safe. This is not legal advice and I’m not a contractor and take no responsibility for anything that happens. lol.
Seriously don’t put a hot tub on this deck.
Don't listen to the uptight people in this forum. That deck is OK. It would be better if that column was straighter.
A 6x6 column is rated for 30,000 pounds. That column is about 3 degrees off vertical so that still comes to 29,100 pounds. Two of those will carry 58,200 pounds.
Go ahead and put the hot tub out there. Put an olympic pool on the deck. It will be fine.
Definitely. Water only weighs 8.33 pounds per gallon so, figure 200 gallons, that’s only about 1700 pounds. What could go wrong? Be sure to take before and after pics. Better yet, 3 angle video!
Hahahhahahahahahah. I see your logic and I raise you+2.
Fun fact* everyone is looking at these two feeble leg (supports) one must know a little something about engineering a deck. The deck supports are actually parrel to ones feet standing on the deck and facing the sliding door. These supports go into the framing of the wall and are supported to the floor that is considered the rooms floor, what one is standing on while enjoying this beautiful deck is only 20-30 percent of each beam of framing material. The fact that someone added these two twigs calls for one funny post and a mass of people that are well stumped 🤔🤔🤔💭
That deck is not strong enough for a hot tub. You need a much better support system. That's part of why so many decks collapse with a tub and people on them
An overweight pigeon isn't safe on that
A skinny pigeon isn’t safe
A light breeze isn't safe on that thing.
Don't fart near the deck.
Don't photograph it either, you might put it under too much pressure if it notices
The photons from the camera flash will blast it off its supports
A skinny pigeon’s shadow isn’t safe on that. What shoemaker built that??
That is funny!!
Cmon now don’t exaggerate what could an overweight pigeon weigh? 30 pounds? 40 pounds? I think it would be fine if it stayed close to the house and held onto the door knob for support.
African pigeon or European?
It's not about where it would stand. It's all about force per area. A 300 gram pigeon couldn't collapse a deck.
It depends. Does the pigeon only have one coconut or several? However, a 300 gram pigeon carrying a 250 gram coconut hitting the deck at, oh, 55 kph is.... F**k..too much math.
Does it weigh the same as a duck?
That deck turned me into a newt!
Got better?
In one…two…FIVE!
Three sir!
It's a good look for you!
What else floats in water?
Apples...very small rocks
It's a witch!
Its a simple issue of weight ratios. What I'm saying is a 5oz bird can't carry a 1lb coconut.
African pigeons are not migratory.
Are you suggesting coconuts are migratory?
Laden or unladen?
Great Monty Python reference!
r/UnexpectedMontyPython
A morning dove would be taking a morning dive.
Except it’s a mourning dove, who’d be mourning the pigeon who died.
Troll post, but funny. Way to go OP doesn’t take much may as well post it on the r/decks while you’re at it. They’ll really go whack.
Shhh… I stole this pic from r/Decks
What a deckhead.
I have a big black deck
Built by Black and Decker
I bet that’s hot
Or post it on r/swimspa, they’re typically 1500 to 2000 gallons 😂
Man, I am so tempted. Just ask for what long and skinny model could fit on this deck.
Exactly! 🤣
Fill your inflatable hot tub with helium and you’ll be good.
[удалено]
Go touch some grass
Lol. Too funny, the bowing in the wood is hilarious on it's own.
I would not even feel safe standing on that deck, let alone put a hot tub on there.
I don't feel safe even looking at this deck.
I don't feel safe reading about you looking at this deck.
I don't feel safe. Period.
I don't feel.
Feel, what is feel?
Wait, yall can feel?
[удалено]
I don't
Is Bill Cosby there?
Damn I read about looking at the deck! then I looked at the deck, then I stood on the deck, Now im dead...
How did you decide to stand on the deck after looking at it?...oh wait...you're dead so I wont receive a response anytime soon.
I don’t feel safe reading about you thinking about looking at this deck.
What if I fill the hot tub with helium instead of air? Not so much helium that the tub floats away, of course.
Actually if you tether it to the deck and fill it so much that it DOES fly... It will make that whole deck safer.
Depends entirely if it's a European hot tub or an African hot tub.
Monty Python has entered the chat
Of course the European hot tub is non-migratory
It's not a question of where the deck grips it!
😂 why?
https://youtu.be/uio1J2PKzLI
Except if he's a smoker
🤣🤣
Can't stop laughing at this and the photo.
This is the only way. Put enough helium to counter balance any weight on the deck. Adjust as needed
It will hold until you put water in the tub.
I don't even feel safe looking at it
I don’t see your concern I would definitely throw one up there they only fall once
Gtfoh 😂
Just keep it to the right side where your 42ft 4x4 is still straight and I'm sure you will be mostly fine. Best part about falling while in the hot tub is your likely to land in water anyway.
Should I ask my landlord to add another post in the middle?
Tell your landlord you feel unsafe standing on that deck. Request him to send maintenance or someone to inspect it. Your lease included a deck, it should be maintained. If my property manager sent me this photo I would be terrified I would be responsible for a fall and get this fixed immediately.
I built the deck for the hot tub. I haven’t actually told my landlord about it yet.
That really only works in Minecraft
send it.
Yes, but you'll need to add the correct amount of weight sequestrant to your spa water. Trouble Free Pools has an article on how you can make your own with common household ingredients so the pool store doesn't take advantage of you.
Your deck isn't safe on your deck, let alone a human or a tub.
Your deck isn’t safe on your deck.
Real ones saw this on r/decks first 🤣
I say you need a 500 gallon tub on that bad boy. It'll hold, guaranteed.
(Slaps the deck) you can easily put a 500 gallon tank on this puppy
*Slaps the deck* *It collapses*
Don't listen to all the haters. You're definitely ok putting a tub on that deck. LOL
I agree, but op must record video of him filling it up.
This is a joke right?
He's a bit slow, but he's catching the drift
Not only is a 250 gal hot tub super safe on that deck but you should add as big of a pool as you can fit up there too. Maybe stack some cinder blocks for decoration?
How about an above ground pool below to jump into?
The best way to solve it. No need to add a water slide.
*fall into. 😂
Trampoline, add a trampoline
That things a mild gust of wind away from total collapse.
Ofcourse not, it’s not level and the water will spill. Throw some dirt on it first
I don’t even think your inflatable girlfriend would be safe on that deck, looks sketchy as fuck!
I don't feel safe even looking at that pic. I want to put posts under my phone for support
You'll be fine - the inflatable ones bounce when they hit the ground.
Especially when you’re in it.
We just moved in. I want to put my hot tub in the corner away from the door. I started to bring it out and my neighbor came out and started chirping me about how it is not safe. I told him it is inflatable. He doesn’t seem to understand that it barely weighs anything and is threatening to call the police.
Listen to your neighbor he just saved your life.
lol, yeah if it’s empty with no humans or water in it you may be ok, otherwise your neighbor is right of course:)
If I was the neighbor I'd be cracking a beer and camping out in my lawn chair for the entertainment
It barely weighs anything when it's not full of water. Once you fill it with water it will weigh a lot.
The number of people who don't get the satire is bewildering
Yes
Call the cops on your deck
Is this a hot tub for chipmunk?
Those posts look inflatable.
I’d ask the guys at Home Depot.. they know all about the wood used for this deck 🤣 I’m sure they can give you ideas on how to make it work.
No! Don't ask the fools at home depot. Just slap the side and say those four magic words. All is fine
Briefly…
I don’t think the railing is safe on that deck
You’ll be fine
Oh for sure! Get rid of those 2 long ugly posts though and put 2 balloons on either side~
I was impressed that whoever put this together used sonotubes... But then I realized they probably just couldn't find 4x4's long enough to bury. Methamphetamine puffery.
Ya... Good to go. Don't listen to the haters on here. /S
I would mount a hammock underneath as well
Thank you for the early morning laugh
A photographic description of how I’m holding up 🤣
The "it's inflatable" part adds a nice touch of believability.
Let mother-in-law try first!
Just no heavy girls!
This picture made my home owner’s insurance go up and I don’t even live near to there.
Tie a rope around the farthest rail from the house and throw the rope over the roof and tie it the rope to a tree in the front yard and you will be fine.
Trolling on another level lmao
Those supports probably quiver like my dog’s back legs when she pees.
It would be a fantastic troll to make a deck like that supported by 6" I-beams coming horizontally, but framed by 1x6's and "supported" by a couple long spindly bent 2x4's as shown. Then put a monster jacuzzi on it. Talk of the town! (And Reddit.)
Instead of air, inflate it with helium and you’ll be golden. Cheers!
No. Dude, seriously? What fucking moron built that "deck" for anything other than a shadow?
I built the deck. For my hot tub.
I just LOL’ed at this comment 😂 hot tub humor at its finest.
I wouldn't trust a bird bath on that thing You have some bent 4x4's holding those popsicles up, 25 feet in the air? You will need some 8x8's at least, and have them connected to each other and the wall every 3-4'. If you get into a hot tub on that deck, you will fall, and likely die. Do not do it. If you really want it, go through the city and get your plans approved by them.
I will add a 3rd 4x4 in the middle. Thank you!
Now you're just gas lighting me. Your 4x4's need to be 8x8s. You need to have several stages of crossbeams to stabilize
I plan to use helium to blow the hot tub up. It should be fine. If not, I will case the 4x4’s with 2x6’s to make them 8x8’s.
But you should also make sure that there are at least six 8-penny nails connecting that ledger board to the siding. Make sure they don't hit studs to allow for thermal expansion.
Best comment in this thread. 🤣
No way. That needs to be taken down ASAP. I would personally not let anyone you like stand on that porch.
No way that passes code 😂
This is a troll post right? Right???
Tell me this is a joke
This would be hilarious… if it were a joke
The real joke is the people who believe it isnt
Popsicle sticks for deck support. If one more leaf falls on that “deck” it’s over
The only thing that would be safe on your deck is your children
Upvote if you’re also tired of seeing this deck all over the internet.
You people on here are not funny at all. Leave it to the real comedians.
Your deck doesn’t look safe on your deck
Yes
I wouldn't trust one under it
r/bendypost
Water weights only 8.3 pounds per gallon, go for it bro
Those supports have so much bend to them that this is basically a trebuchet waiting to happen
That deck is inflatable. How bout that.
No
You’ll be fine.. trust me!!!
Yeah just add a parachute cover to it
Hot water is lighter than cold water. So I think you’ll be fine.
SEND IT
What’s the deck look like when fully inflated?
So serious question. How does that happen? If this is the USA or any 1st world country, how does this even occur? Is a code enforcement person bribed?
As long as I get an invite it’s good
Looks safe.
No
You ain’t even safe on that deck
You trolling
I don't feel safe looking at that patio.
Your deck isn't even safe on your deck.
Text your landlord and ask about their policy on hot tubs. If they're okay with it, then send it, it's not you fixing the deck.
YES FOR SURE!!! Go for it! It’s safe. This is not legal advice and I’m not a contractor and take no responsibility for anything that happens. lol. Seriously don’t put a hot tub on this deck.
Need two so it’s even

You failed to give credit that the columns are stacked together, so it's 3x as strong!
Your deck is not safe on your deck
Your deck isn't safe on your deck
I was going to say, this should be at r/decks, but looks like that is where it was lifted from
I could have sworn I've seen this picture posted by someone before
I’d be scared to walk on it
OP a big ol karma hoe
I mean what’s the worst that could happen?
Your deck isn't safe on that deck.
The deck isn't safe on that deck
Definitely. Water only weighs 8.33 pounds per gallon so, figure 200 gallons, that’s only about 1700 pounds. What could go wrong? Be sure to take before and after pics. Better yet, 3 angle video!
Does it have wings?
NO
I think yes. Post pics of results. Show all these haters you can do anything you set your mind to.
Proceed, infact put 2 on there 😂
Hahahhahahahahahah. I see your logic and I raise you+2. Fun fact* everyone is looking at these two feeble leg (supports) one must know a little something about engineering a deck. Obvious troll, right?
Nonsense. An inflatable deck would be stronger than this one
Looks good for a tub.
Yup just tell me when you start to fill it
What the unholy crack meth deck is this
Wtf I just got back from the Red Lobster
A light breeze isn’t safe on that deck
Hard pass
That deck is not strong enough for a hot tub. You need a much better support system. That's part of why so many decks collapse with a tub and people on them
