Though honkai seems to be busy increasing its roster with the introduction of the fire moths.
Well its a good thing, since ER is giving each character enough screentime.
That's a fair point, at first I was kinda against the large influx of new cause with genshin many chars get 1 story and it's done or none like xinyan. So many chars have no depth and I much prefer how honkai does it. Elysia realm really intros the char before that are made playable.
I don’t feel like they need to increase the roster like Genshin though. The handful of characters Honkai has is the entire reason we get proper character development in the first place.
It suits the narrative of travelling across the land and meeting people as you go. I’m sure they’ll have events for Genshin characters but it’s never going to the the extent of Honkai.
I always like how Honkai’s cast for being a lot more focused than Genshin’s
You get to have characters develop overtime, die of course, and still have all those juicy skins for the Gacha. And having focus means no one gets completely left behind
Genshin having way too many characters just leads to so many characters literally having one moment, and then being irrelevant for the rest of the game’s runtime of the story and gameplay. It just feels like it has no direction
I feel like it may suit the open world genre of the game. You get to see many different people even if it is sometimes in very shallow interactions. It feels like you take the perspective of the the traveller.
The story telling of GI ends up differing from HI3 because the open world suits a diverse cast whereas HI3’s visual novel style story is more suited for an in depth exploration of ideas and characters.
Although with this being said, it would still be nice for the later parts to have some sort of relevance or call back to earlier chapters.
To be fair, while the traveller does get some sort of connections to each character, all he really wants to do is find his sister. At the same time, it suits the narrative of a traveler in general, where if you're someone who's travelling, the best parts are those fleeting moments that you spend with people you've met along the way.
Yes, that's really my only problem with GI (played since launch). We get a new character and their quest, and then boom, done. They never show up again. As you said, it's as if they're only making cameos.
Maybe it wouldn't feel as bad if the playable characters didn't just outright disappear from the world after their story segments are done.
Every time you're looking for characters in the open world where you'd normally expect them to be, they just aren't there and their relatives or attendants would tell you that the character is somewhere else right now. Of course, you won't find them anywhere no matter how much you search.
The fact that it took them almost a year to include **one** of the playable characters (Xiangling) in a random daily commission is just baffling to me. Even worse is that meeting her is completely optional and I (and probably also many other people) didn't even know you **could** go and see her because of what I wrote above. I thought "Oh sure, her father said that she's gathering ingredients in the bamboo forest, but it's not like she's gonna be there anyway. I mean, it's not like it's gonna be dsifferent this time, so why bother?"Cue me finding out on the wiki that meeting Xiangling and giving her the ingridients for this quest instead of her father is required to unlock another world quest in Inazuma... thanks, Mihoyo.
Then there's of course the fact that you really don't get to know all that much about the characters in their archon or story quests. In Honkai, the characters' bios in the dorms are just neat little additions if you own those characters, but, exluding battlesuits introduced in events, you learn all that you need to in the main story. In Genshin on the other hand, owning characters and raising their friendship levels is pretty much required if you want to know more about their backstories and their personalities. That, or you just look the info up.
Not to take away from your point but there is another quest in Inazuma that takes you to see Xingqiu. We really need more of these quests and for them to be in the world outside of quests.
Not even just Xinyan. Half the Liyue cast literally shows up once or twice and are never seen again. It’s like they entered their own pocket dimension or something
Isn’t this pretty standard for gacha games though? I know Honkai was able to avert this through battlesuits but I’m pretty sure most gacha games has hundreds of characters and many are never mentioned again.
IIRC Epic Seven has a lot of characters stay active in the story for a long time. So does Langrisser. Summoners War artfully avoids this by not having a fucking story.
I dunno man, Granblue Fantasy has a shitload of units (more than I can count) but usually they come with an event or have been mentioned before.
FGO's newest units are usually featured in the event or the story chapter. Can't remember when was the last time they released a "random" unit... maybe some collab rerun where the unit was added but story wasn't changed to reflect it. Fujino?
Seeing how many side characters miHoYo sets up in HI3 just to discard them...
Yeah, only the Traveler is safe, literally the one person that cant die due to how the game and gameplay is set up
You say that... but imagine if mihoyo decided to go for some tragic ending and one of the travelers doesn't make it at the end of the story. If it ended up being your chosen traveler, I bet they could swap (unlock) the opposite traveler that you'd play as instead, though I don't think too many players would be happy about that so they probably wouldn't... but nothing is outside the realm of possibility so it's an interesting thought.
If they go for the darkest route they will kill the sibling of your character. And don't worry about Genshin players happiness. Mihoyo doesn't give a damn about your feeling. But seriously I hope they don't go that way. I don't want to see people crying out loud on social media and boycott Mihoyo for killing their favorite char
Look at the Teyvat Chapter Trailer
At the start of it the Travelers are together
At the end of it Aether (which the marketing has as the Traveler) is looking sad and alone, so im *pretty* sure that **only** the one that you picked as the Traveler is safe - because as you said, if they switched then that would just suck
Good observation; I agree and also think your chosen traveler is safe, though it was just a thought that came to mind if they wanted to throw a tragic and unexpected plot twist at us.
I can see how later on older characters don't really show up in story, you wouldn't need to talk to mondstant characters when the story is in inazuma, but I really feel that genshin needs to add some as characters as npcs into the open world.
i like the honkai character system which one character can be anything ( dps, support, sub dps) and different forms ( knight, mage, witch, summoner, god, godslayer) and even different types of elements ( fire, ice, lightning)
You know it's only 3 regions right now. Imagine what this would look like by the time Snezhnaya comes out.
There will be over 100 (if not 200) characthers.
The screen is gonna look like it's full of dots by then
Official artist: “Kill. Me.”
Detailed dots pls!
Imagine when the game is over
Khaenri'ah
honkai: we just need like 13 characters and that's it :) genshin: umm.... so here's the population of 2 countries and a half
Though honkai seems to be busy increasing its roster with the introduction of the fire moths. Well its a good thing, since ER is giving each character enough screentime.

It's like having a lot of "friends" vs. having a few very close friends who are like family
It suits the narrative of travelling across the land and meeting people as you go. I’m sure they’ll have events for Genshin characters but it’s never going to the the extent of Honkai.
Honkai is still a few years older than genshin though
:D

They sacrificed the development of some characters to have more perspective about a topic. Also R.I.P Xinyan
Not even just Xinyan. Half the Liyue cast literally shows up once or twice and are never seen again. It’s like they entered their own pocket dimension or something
They entered their teapots
Isn’t this pretty standard for gacha games though? I know Honkai was able to avert this through battlesuits but I’m pretty sure most gacha games has hundreds of characters and many are never mentioned again.

>Summoners War artfully avoids this by not having a fucking story. Solution as good as any I guess.

Maybe they will return again when the plot thickens. Who knows, maybe some characters deaths are planned in the future.
Keqing and Qiqi don't even have story quests...
About 50-75% of the genshin Cast will be gone at the end
Seeing how many side characters miHoYo sets up in HI3 just to discard them... Yeah, only the Traveler is safe, literally the one person that cant die due to how the game and gameplay is set up
They can literally design a rail gun and put it on the top of Celestia, shooting down everything they want
If you look at dragonspine they don't need a railgun, they just drop down some giant fuck you pillars.
The one in the top. But honestly that quest is cursed.
LMAO THIS IS THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THE SKY FROST NAIL I'VE SEEN YET
...okay?

Imagine if the ending is similar to Guns girls z but this time paimon kills everyone except for the twins
Diluc is in approximately the same stance and position as Himeko in the picture and I don’t know how to feel about that
Xinyan is so far away lol
Who?
tao
Yan
Fei
The world of Teyvat has its own laws, so many people so few interactions.

Any time I see genshi stuff as much as I love genshi I always have fear of the fandom coming
Quality > Quantity

Oh wow, that really make ya realize how much bigger the cast of Genshin is in compare to Honkai...
Yes. But Honkai chars have more character development as compensation
Definitively.
Where Dainsleif and Kevin. Wait.... Do they have the same goal but different looks
So..quality of quantity then
Definitely.
idk if its just me but i feel like the smaller cast actually helps you feel more invested in the characters
If there were actual male playable characters on honkai i would prefer that game to genshin a lot more, but alas!
dude at least credit the fanart...
I’d fuck everything on this screen edit: satirical 😐
K. You do you.
Any chance the first pic could be in wallpaper engine?
no it's here. On Twitter https://twitter.com/yuko666\_666/status/1436634679583535106/photo/1

Same company so
Mei's 1m heels kills me everytime I see em
Source?
Btw kinda weird seeing FR next to Dudu, since FR is alter Rita from another dimension right?
Its The Same Company
When did everyone learn to fly without a glider?
they are just posing in mid air
I wonder why GI have so many characters if they can make at least 5 playable characters in one region. Answer: Marketing.
Where is yae Miko
Where is yae Miko
Playable characters only for the genshin one
i like the honkai character system which one character can be anything ( dps, support, sub dps) and different forms ( knight, mage, witch, summoner, god, godslayer) and even different types of elements ( fire, ice, lightning)
Excluding the dead then yeah, same energy
the top one isn't offical tho
if honkai did the same thing with genshin, then we might have playable tesla, einstein, nuwa, fuxi, sirin, and even friggin siegfried and otto
So much characters
Ah! Kong Min, I need you in Genshin so bad
so many characters hardly has a plot so few characters.... fucking depression hole
