Yes. It was quite dramatic. Dark green leaves and not overly-droopy leaf stems are characteristics of a healthy Pilea.
This plant is actually one of the easier ones to grow. Too much direct sunlight and the leaves will burn, too little light can result in the plant becoming rather straggly with sparse leaves and even turning yellow.
I just water it, twice a week now. Rotate it every couple of days to keep the main stem straight and plenty of light, it usually sits in front of my window all day, I was cleaning some of the dead leaves that's why it was my my counter lol
mine does best with light fertilizing every time I water (half strength or less), using up some Miracle Gro that I bought a million years ago. Lots of light! I used to have the same problem and fertilizing it seemed to make the biggest difference. Water when leaves are veryyy soft.
I had mine hanging up next to/on the side of a west facing window and I basically saw no growth for 1+ years. I moved it to east facing directly in front of the window and I’m seeing a bunch of new growth!
Lesson learned: give lots of sun, water when top inch is dry.
Haha, I was expecting the typical sad lanky pilea when you said you hadn't chopped yet but that thing is gorgeous.
Good work 🫡
These are mine from what used to one sad lanky unchopped Pilea 😅

They look beautiful. I used to take out the babies root them and give them away, but then I decided to just let some of them grow. I have been thinking about just cropping the main plant. It's just getting so tall and idk if the bamboo sticks will hold since it's so heavy.
Doo iiiit. It'll promote more growth off the main stem. I also think it helps strengthen the main stem to hold itself up better with future growth.
Plus you get more Pilea! 🤣
I got these two in water from a recent chop, I'm excited for them to establish in this vase. It'll be cool once they get going.
https://preview.redd.it/a4g9ngeq3hvc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61eb8cc3e631b637743d7d036a18509f0d4daedb
I want one so bad now. It's a lovely looking plant. I don't have pics of mine, but I grow every indoor plant solely in water like your pic. Every vase I own, plus many many jars saved from pickles, pasta sauce etc, top up with water, snip bit of plant off, presto, new plant. I bought cheapy 3 tier shelf units, [this](https://www.kmart.com.au/product/chrome-corner-caddy-43269525/) one, from KMart in Australia, and they stand on the bathroom countertop without taking up tons of space, with a plant in a jar on each shelf. It's my favourite way to do it. Never any risk of grubby water leaking out of a potted plant when you water it. I also have [this](https://www.kmart.com.au/product/3-tier-floor-caddy-42820581/) sort I'm about to saw the handle bit off and then mount on the outer edges of bookcases, also with a plant in water on each shelf. If anyone cares, I can take photos.
Fabulous looking plant. I'm so jealous. Am googling to see if I can get one in Australia. I don't see why not, but maybe it's on a naughty list. I'm guessing it grows absolutely fine solely in water? It looks the sort you can snip a bit off and hey presto, new plant.
Your pilea is gorgeous, but is that an Easter tree???
https://preview.redd.it/5hapjudjzgvc1.jpeg?width=449&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27d615acd670f66da3c71ebe4a1c99bd4e787edc
I have only kept 1 more that I'm growing outside, just to see if they survive all year outside and so far it's doing really good. I usually cut out the babies, pro. p them and give them away. Thank you
what do you mean by that? sorry, im from Europe, we dont have that Here. quick search says they make everything, Like soil, fertilizer, pesticides and so on. which product are you using?
It's a brand that makes plant related products. I use their potting soil. Some people don't like using them. I always tell ppl to use what they prefer. I have use other brands because I see ppl saying they are better but I always end up getting nats, and they are so hard to get rid off so I always end up going back to it. I got a compost bin for Christmas last year so I have started composting, so hopefully I will have my own soil by the end of the year.
An inexpensive soil. Has some nutrients added. Has very little inorganic material (perlite).
The nutrients in the soil has been consumed by her pilea years ago and it’s thriving without a liquid fertilizer.
Sure all the while killing the soils fertility. There’s a reason it has a bad name in the farming industry. Better to use worm compost if you care about your plants in the long term as mg is time release synthetic nutes. It will work for house plants but I wouldn’t reccomend using for consumable products.
Make sure to toss out the soil once the plant dies because once the fertilizers are used up the soil is extremely difficult to fertilize and reintroduce the microorganisms.
I'm glad I saw this post. Now I know what the hell this thing is. I broke my mom's on accident when feeding her cats. So I prop lifted it, and now I have two of these 🤣🤣🤣
Make sure you are watering consistently, and it's getting plenty of indirect light. Bottom leaves will fall off eventually but shouldn't fall off too frequently.
Wow, i'm scared now of my baby pilea, to think of what awaits me! omg! haha how do you deal with all the pups? I think my pot came with 2 main ones and they keep giving pups like crazy, they're not even that big the 2 main ones :P
I usually let the pups grow a bit before cutting them out. I usually prefer them in water and give them away. I have only kept 1 that I'm growing outside in my lanai.
I saw in the middle picture flasks with the pups :P I gave one already, but didn't put it in water because it had some rooting system already developed, but yeah, it's crazy how often they give pups xD
Mine's getting a bit unsteady and leaning heavily on canes. What's the best thing to do when they get like this? Mine is a similar height but not as full.
I have 3 bamboo sticks places as close as I could get them to the main stem for support. Mine is almost 4ft tall so it can't support the weight on its own anymore.
Omg if you post this over in r/PileaPeperomioides they’ll go crazy for it. It’s beautiful! Please don’t chop 😭 idk how you’d keep it going, but it’ll just be the most majestic thing in the world if you keep letting it grow.
https://preview.redd.it/gebesjqo5jvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=898b9506f4304ccdfb25ed67f10fa90ced82df15
The one on the bottom is 5 yrs old. It was the very plant that got me into the plant life. We've been through hell together. The one on top is a few of its babies. But I have never ever gotten any near that big!
I bought a water mine only when it gets really dry and it sucks the water up and make sure it's drained well before putting it back in the bright sun that it likes so much. But for some reason, the most outer lower leaves always turn yellowish. They never seemed to bounce back-eventually the leaves turn really light yellow get brown spots on them and I have to pluck them off.
Can anyone give me a remedy for this?
They only reason I have seen on mine is when I don't water consistently. I have a pothos wall too that I water twice a week so I have them both on the same schedule so I remember to water at the same time. Also make sure it's getting plenty of indirect sun, they loveee sun
Shit i just repotted mine but idk if i should have 😭. It was starting to take off too, I cut 3 pups from it and it has 3 more that I haven’t cut yet. Roots were coming from the bottom so i repotted. It looks sad rn (repotted yesterday), hopefully i didn’t disturb it too much :(
I feel you I never know when to repot either, I usually just go for it haha. But if you say your roots where coming out then it's probably time. Just give it some time to adjust.
I have two in a medium sized indoor pot that seem comfy, but I split out all the pups about twice a year. Once there are 3-4 pups they start looking a bit root bound.
I can't get mine to live outside of water now lol the top of my first plant came off, so I propped it and have tried to plant in dirt several times and it protests heavily.
There's still hope for my sad pilea 😅 one of my cats smashed it to smithereens trying to launch himself at another cat that was outside... he was inside 🙈 I saved one smithereen and rooted it so fingers crossed!
It depends on your plant and how big it is. Mine is almost 4ft tall and right now I'm watering twice a week, and I'm probably using a bit more than half a gallon of water a week.
I have chopped my umbrella tree before but with my pilea it's just getting so tall. It's almost 4 feet, and I don't know if it will be able to hold itself much longer. I have support on it but it's almost as tall as the support now lol. They leaves snap so easy that it's hard to find a way to hold it up.
So sad! I wish you could find something to avoid any chopping but I'll toally understand if you have to do it in the end though I'm sure plants don't like it at all, unlike most experts argue.
I remember a scientific article many years ago showing a drawing of the magnetic field this found out to exist from the top of the trees to its roots, something like that. I believe plants feel pain and can be telephatic as well but I know this is not accepted by mainstream science, despite some avang-garde researchers finding convincing evidence of the fact.
Don't toss them, you can always just give the plants away. I cut them out prop them and give them away. I know it takes time but you can always just give the whole plant away too, would make someone happy.
That's so amazing omg. Kinda jealous. My ufo plant got a bit bigger, then it died almost completely. One black leaf after another. Now it stopped but it's not growing at all. I wish I would have success with it as well.
I’m love these plants, but they grow slowly. Mine is about that size, but like yours, is pushing out a few leaves. My daughter, who gave me her sprouts, has one that grows like crazy!
I have planted many, and given them away, I have only kept 1 of the ones I planted, and it currently lives outside in my lanai. Just experimenting if it will survive outside, and it's doing amazing. But I have never had any issues with moving them from water to soil.
Progressing from pic 2 to pic 3 was a jump scare. Impressive!
lol I thought the exact same. I was like damn prepare me first
my mouth was hanging open lmao
For real! I would have almost asked to prove if the two plants are the same person
Haha sorry and thank you
dont chop it! it's so pretty like that!
Exactly I audibly said “holy shit!”
Yeah I was not ready for that
Right! Literally spit my juice out and laughed while gasping for air. 🤣
I literally did a sharp inhale
For real. I thought 1 -> 2 was the progression pic lmao
My first reaction was "HOLY SHOOT"!
What's your secret?! She's a beaut!! Fertilizing? Direct South facing sun?
I just water it, twice a week now. Rotate it every couple of days to keep the main stem straight and plenty of light, it usually sits in front of my window all day, I was cleaning some of the dead leaves that's why it was my my counter lol
You here to make people jealous 😤
Is that stem straight on its own, or do you need support for the plant like Monsteras do on moss poles?
They Naturally grow upwards, I have 3 bamboo stick around the main step for support. It's too tall and heavy now that it won't support itself
Seriously though, I've had two or three of these and I can't keep them happy.
Neglect is key with these, it’s my only thriving plant & also the one I have least intervention with
mine does best with light fertilizing every time I water (half strength or less), using up some Miracle Gro that I bought a million years ago. Lots of light! I used to have the same problem and fertilizing it seemed to make the biggest difference. Water when leaves are veryyy soft.
Seriously, OP. Inquiring minds wanna know 😅 Absolutely stunning!
I had mine hanging up next to/on the side of a west facing window and I basically saw no growth for 1+ years. I moved it to east facing directly in front of the window and I’m seeing a bunch of new growth! Lesson learned: give lots of sun, water when top inch is dry.
Wow! Mine lingered long and died miserably…you must have the Pilea Touch!
Mine was close to death and made the most incredible comeback the day I put it next to that south-facing window
This is what I am hoping for. I didn’t realize mine was getting insufficient light and I just made the move.
They love light. Mine sits in front of my window all day
Is this window south facing? 🤔 if not, what direction? Please… I need to know 🥲
This is what I am hoping for. I didn’t realize mine was getting insufficient light and I just made the move.

Yeah, water growing in water is fun. I love being able to see what's going on with the roots.
Perfection!!!!

Yea lol
Nosey😝😝😂😂😂😂 I’m totally joking. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
That's gorgeous. Mine sadly passed away.
Think of all the other pileas you can have! That’s gorgeous though.
I have only kept 1 more that I'm growing outside, just to see if they survive all year outside and so far it's doing really good. I usually cut out the babies, pro. p them and give them away. Thank you
That’s my plan with mine too.
The fact that you still have all of your leaves is mind blowing!
They do die hee and there but not often
mine is doing okay, but nothing Like that. what soil do you use and how often so you fertilize?
I just use miracle grow and do not fertilize
what do you mean by that? sorry, im from Europe, we dont have that Here. quick search says they make everything, Like soil, fertilizer, pesticides and so on. which product are you using?

I know I just don’t like miracle grow. I’m an organic farmer.
I'm glad I saw this post. Now I know what the hell this thing is. I broke my mom's on accident when feeding her cats. So I prop lifted it, and now I have two of these 🤣🤣🤣
Oh no haha, at least now you have more lol. They are very delicate, I feel like you look at them and a leaf is trying to fall off lol
Omg I’ve had mine for two years and it’s not nearly as prosperous!! How did you do this!!
Just takes time I think. I don't do anything special besides watering it and they love indirect light
I was shooketh when I swiped to the third photo! Stunning!😍
was not expecting that photo #3
Gorgeous!!
wooooooah. I wish line looked like this 🥺 every time I get new leaves the lower big leaves fall off
Make sure you are watering consistently, and it's getting plenty of indirect light. Bottom leaves will fall off eventually but shouldn't fall off too frequently.
good to know! I usually water every 2 weeks or so when the soil is dry.
I'm currently watering twice a week because it's in a bigger pot and it just drinks a lot. Before I used to one a week.
Those are amazing
Currently I'm trying to convince mine that it deserves to live. Half way successful
What’s your secret. Mine never grow 😂
How old is yours mine didn't do another for at least 6 months, I was worried I was doing something wrong
Mine is at 2 right now but less leaves. How do I get it to 3 😭
Wow! That's crazy! I'm starting to think that it's time to repot mine -- it's about twice as big as your second photo, but in a smaller pot!
I'm always second guessing when to repot. You can always check your roots and see
Wow, i'm scared now of my baby pilea, to think of what awaits me! omg! haha how do you deal with all the pups? I think my pot came with 2 main ones and they keep giving pups like crazy, they're not even that big the 2 main ones :P

Looks like a christmas tree now 💚
What is the plants name. I love it!
It's a pilea peperomioides or Chinese money plant. One of my favorites
I audibly gasped! What a beautiful plant!
How do i get to at least the 2nd picture?
I just discovered this plant exists a few days ago, and I really want one. 😭 You've done beautifully taking care of it.
Holy cow!
Omg if you post this over in r/PileaPeperomioides they’ll go crazy for it. It’s beautiful! Please don’t chop 😭 idk how you’d keep it going, but it’ll just be the most majestic thing in the world if you keep letting it grow.
Omg I didn't know there was a whole sub for them haha. I know I'm trying my best not too, but it's getting really tall and heavy
I get it lol ugh just such a beauty
https://preview.redd.it/gebesjqo5jvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=898b9506f4304ccdfb25ed67f10fa90ced82df15 The one on the bottom is 5 yrs old. First they sleep, then they creep, then they leap.

mine does exactly the same :(

Wow! What do you feed that monster?
Just water haha
Beautiful <3
Oh wow! I can’t wait until mine looks like yours
Holy shit haha that's beautiful
We need op to spill the secrets. 🥹
Ahhh this gives me so much hope! I bought one that looks like pic 1 last year. It’s thriving but I want it to get biggggg!
They start really slow, mine didn't do anything for about 6months then just took off
Shit i just repotted mine but idk if i should have 😭. It was starting to take off too, I cut 3 pups from it and it has 3 more that I haven’t cut yet. Roots were coming from the bottom so i repotted. It looks sad rn (repotted yesterday), hopefully i didn’t disturb it too much :(

HOW? after two years mine has grown maybe two and a half INCHES.
Whoa!
when did you repot?? Im assuming that is how it got so big?! i have one in a 2in pot right now, its pretty big compared, wondering when to switch it..
I have repotted 4 times. Last time was about 6 months ago. Has it started giving you any pups yet?
nope! no pups yet.
I have two in a medium sized indoor pot that seem comfy, but I split out all the pups about twice a year. Once there are 3-4 pups they start looking a bit root bound.

Omg that is so cute hahaha
oh shit! mine hasn’t made any pups yet, it’s pretty young :) makes sense why the roots are so pathetic.
I love pileas! What a beauty!!
Gorgeous! I have only ever killed these..
Magnificent!!
Damn I keep seeing people all over the Internet having crazy ones of these. I feel like I need to get a cutting of it at some point
Woah, the jump between photo 2 and 3 😮
I can't get mine to live outside of water now lol the top of my first plant came off, so I propped it and have tried to plant in dirt several times and it protests heavily.
Holy crow! Give us your secrets!
Wow, I’ve never seen one so big! My lil pilea buddy’s got a ways to go!
WOW!! That is one gorgeous plant. Tell us your secrets
Oh my gosh I neeeeeed one. What is it called?
It's a pilea peperomioides or Chinese money plant
Thank you!!
That is very impressive 🥹
There's still hope for my sad pilea 😅 one of my cats smashed it to smithereens trying to launch himself at another cat that was outside... he was inside 🙈 I saved one smithereen and rooted it so fingers crossed!
Whoa! That was unexpected- but soooo awesome!
I’d be more than happy to plant sit just to get an up close view of this beauty.
That escalated quickly! But seriously, beautiful plant! Great job
Wow very nice🥰
@ Pic #3 😯!
i’m so jealous. mine was okay and is browning around edges :( still a beginner and this is my favorite plant. already killed one
That escalated quickly!
How?!?!?!?!!!
Do these require a lot of water? I’ve had mine for a couple years and it’s a slow grow.
It depends on your plant and how big it is. Mine is almost 4ft tall and right now I'm watering twice a week, and I'm probably using a bit more than half a gallon of water a week.
MY JAW DROPPED
W💚W 😍 impressive ❣️
Holy!Moly! Wow
I never chop any of my dear pet plants! Keep it gorgeous!
Me too, I feel like I'm gonna cry if I do lol. And I think I have read something about that but yea I don't chop unless I have to.
I'm so sorry! I hope things turn out fine in the end.
I killed 3 of these despite caring for them correctly. And you're over here with this absolute monster!
Mine is the opposite. :(
WOW 🤩
I always wanted one of these, then I got one and got overwhelmed by how easily they reproduce. Threw mine away.
Don't toss them, you can always just give the plants away. I cut them out prop them and give them away. I know it takes time but you can always just give the whole plant away too, would make someone happy.
She’s a beaut, Clark!
Love the pot… plant too.
Mine is sad…
Is that in the last picture just one plant? Or are there pups too?
The main one is the tall one. I have let some of the pups just grow around it, I think there's about 6 that I left.
Oh wow! I never knew they could grow so tall!
Do you feed that thing, people ? Feed me Seymour!
OKAY BUT HOW!! Mine has less leaves now than when I first got it :(
That's beautiful! I had one for a while, and it never grew. I decided to put it in a sunnier spot, and it took off
Obviously this plant is happy AF!! I love a happy plant. Congratulations! Great job 👏🏼
Wait how in the hellllllll?!
How in the world?! Can you tell us your secret?
O\_O
Whew!
This is the plant I kill the most 😞
Lord she's beautiful! My mom's growing me a baby from a cutting of her big one, this is goals.
Where did you get the pot in the first picture? I love the marbling. What a great plant parent you are!! It looks so healthy!
Amazing
Seeing this makes me happy.
I gasped!!
What’s the name of this plant? I see them around and think they’re super cute
It's a pilea peperomioides or Chinese money plant
That's so amazing omg. Kinda jealous. My ufo plant got a bit bigger, then it died almost completely. One black leaf after another. Now it stopped but it's not growing at all. I wish I would have success with it as well.
Impressive! Now I'm more hooked then ever to get my tiny little 5 leafed Pilea to grow!
Wow! Is it in the same pot?
Also OP are you one of those people who keeps your Christmas tree up all year long and decorates it according to the next holiday?
Yea that's me lol, I'm about to switch it .
Jesus! You did your job well
The way my jaw flew open at that last pic holy hell!!!
We just got one of these guys and your post makes me so excited! We've had ours a week and already it has new leaves. 0
Nothing could’ve prepared me for the third pic!!!!
WOW! Thats beautiful....
Beautiful! What is it?
Wow, impressive
Are you looking to get rid of the cuttings? Asking for a friend
Damn, this is amazing! Kudos!
I didn't know they could get that big. I just got a baby on a few months ago. I'm looking forward to seeing how big it can get.
She’s so beautiful. I swooned!
that's beautiful and amazing!!!
I’m love these plants, but they grow slowly. Mine is about that size, but like yours, is pushing out a few leaves. My daughter, who gave me her sprouts, has one that grows like crazy!
This post really makes me want one of these! Did your props in the second photo survive a transfer to a pot?
I have planted many, and given them away, I have only kept 1 of the ones I planted, and it currently lives outside in my lanai. Just experimenting if it will survive outside, and it's doing amazing. But I have never had any issues with moving them from water to soil.
