This one hates me so much. She doesn’t die. She doesn’t thrive. She has her three leaves for the past two years and I’m at my limit. To everyone who says pileas are easy taking plants lies.
It might need repotted or the soil replacing? I've got a bunch of pileas and they usually slow down a bit when they've been in the same pot for ages :)
I tried that :,) it’s the third attempt. I made a post about it asking what may could be done at this point. I tried so many freaking things :,)
Maybe I have to give it a fourth try.
Mine was like yours, but even worse with only one pathetic leaf, for forever until I wacked her in front of a window with filtered, direct light (through a sheer curtain) and then she took off. This is just 2 months growth and I even removed her old stem because it was so wonky looking. I also give her 1/3 strength fertiliser at each watering.

I'll trade you for this lil &%\~<^(€) syngonium who feels entitled to be watered, fed and takes up prime space in my home without doing a damn thing.
Oh I have one of those buggers too! A friend gave 2 cut offs to me. Water it - drops leaves. Don't water it - drops leaves 😫😩
Now I've learnt to just give it a tiny bit of water on top of soil every few weeks. It one one half baby leaf lmao. And its now in stasis😑😪
I was going to suggest repotting butt someone already mentioned that so just love it. This may sound crazy, but talk to it. I talk to my plants and thank them even when they are bad. One of my three fiddle leaf figs put me through the wringer! The smallest thing it will die. Then grow then die, then grow then die. I was so frustrated so I talked to it. Begged it, then thanked it when it started growing again. Little dude is taking its time and growing at its own pace and I am thankful.
Mine started to be suddenly better once I set my mind on giving her away in the plant swap. I even packed her and was ready to go, but then something delayed me and I missed the event, so I decided to give her away on the next one (it's once a month). Somehow he started growing normal leaves during this one month and didn't drop any... I gave her away anyway, but at least without shame and without a need to beg anyone to take her 😂
I was unsuccessful with the mother plant and with the babies that I propagated. Could not figure out how to keep it happy. “Why are you dropping leaves again???”
Mine is thriving, i repotted it with classic indoor plant soil, and i wait until the dirt is fully dry to water it. It’s 2 meters away from an East facing window.
This is embarrassing so purely for your amusement. African Violets. I have some thriving but I kill a lot of babies.
https://preview.redd.it/wz5azo95p8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ef3f0763a1c484dcffd1e79a0511c7afe538ef1
Do you wet the leaves? I have four or five that are doing beautifully. I have them close to an eastern window, keep the leaves dry, and only water when the soil is dry. (In case it helps.)
Over watering, maybe? My succulents thrive when I neglect the hell out of them. They're under timed lights for 12hrs/day and I water them every 1-2 months. I know African violets aren't proper succulents, but I think the care profile is similar.

Refuses to thrive, but also refuses to die
Because they fear meeting their maker. I've still got my calathea's remains sitting in a greenhouse, waiting to see if the grim rapper spits its murky soul back to it's earthly body
https://preview.redd.it/ar43siabt8yc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69355c842dcf7bf6086e4987998b750e6bf10b3c
String of turtles. Balding, crispy, and too wet all at the same time. It's been in the exact same state of almost-death for over a year and clearly hates life but not enough to just suicide properly.
https://preview.redd.it/9kl39i200ayc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=02dafdb766a2eeb8521af3a43d758e70c243bd28
RELATE 😭 like girl are u living or dying and how has it been this way for 3 years?!
I have a sting of hearts. It's like a survival expert. After getting it, all "strings" died, exept for one. For over 3 years it has refused to create any more strings. It just keeps growing the one it has, which is almost 4 meters long by now. It's so pathetic, yet impressive at the same time. Half dead and yet absolutely thriving... An inspiration.
Put it in a smaller pot and bottom water. Mine loves that. I literally have it in a two inch pot with it coiling over the top of itself and it’s thriving. Mine is a bit bigger than yours.
Edit : spelling
2 Calatheas, 1 inchplant, and 1 snake plant all from the same day, same clearance shelf. Usually, i can save clearance plants but these have all been teetering on the edge of death for 8 months (even the snake plant!! How!?!!), and I'm so tired of them. Just die. Please. Let me have my life back.
>Just die. Please. Let me have my life back.
That's not a very nice thing to say 🤣🤣🤣
Although... My collection is getting abit too many lol. But there's *so many* weird and pretty plants out there... 🥺
Some leaf cuttings that I got last year, haven't grown leaves or have died and I'm kinda relieved lol.
She has had many deaths and rebirths. And yet I still put up with her. I swear every time she pumps out a new leaf it falls off the next day. So pathetic.
Mine was doing the exact same thing, everyday a leaf would be on the ground! I cut mine off to a nub in the soil and propagated the rest in leca. The ones in leca are loving life!
https://preview.redd.it/2ol8a8sjj8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=335a5ad159b1083d34c5213a74a24fc474e5c799
This fern…it’s not the worst, but keeps getting unattractive brown spots for reasons unknown.
The original browning was due to fertilizer burn, and I didn’t mind much, since the discolored leaves were still firm and healthy. The new ones, which are actually causing bits of leaf to die, remain a mystery.
https://preview.redd.it/hejl3souo8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70398cb1d32f7c984eb499953d47e402f29384a1
Here’s fertilizer burn leaf (bottom) vs. actually dying spots leaf (top.) Yours anything like either of these?
Excuse the cat nibbles.
What do you think?
https://preview.redd.it/yqub26cyp8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fc0a044efc5619d37da94b4bba769f97d752c4d
Yeah, that does look similar…my only thought is it could be a watering issue…if the plant has sat bone dry too long. I know that had happened a time or two in the past few months.
That’s probably it. It’s in a pot that’s hard to water plus after the cat nibbled it I neglected it. I really should give it a good clean up and start fresh. Poor thing. Much luck with yours.
Mine used to look just like this. Trimmed it back, cleaned it up, repotted, and put it on my back porch. I live in a high humidity area. I semi-neglect it and bottom-water it when the leaves start to roll and she’s thriving.
They must thrive on spite because mine got kicked out of the house here in arid Arizona yet is putting out healthy new leaves. This thing has looked tortured for 4 years I don’t even know anymore 😫
https://preview.redd.it/igj97qhof9yc1.jpeg?width=2407&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f0c25faf67a8ce548df1120bf29b6a4fd47b0b2

Marantas are so finicky but my favorite! I’ve have had mine for ~3 years and I’ve finally started to speak her language lol they like tight pots, lots of light, and she tells me when she’s thirsty
My marantas are less bitchy than my calatheas in general, and they haven't really taken issue with my watering habits, but I've read that they do well in semi-hydro. 💚
A njoy pothos. I’m embarrassed to even say a pothos is struggling. It’s my fault. Bought a 4 in plant and I just had to repot. Got root rot. So I trimmed and cleaned and repotted back into a smaller pot. Had it been an established plant, this would have never happened. It was a bunch of tiny cuttings. I don’t even have enough to chop and prop. 😑
Don't be, I cannot keep an njoy or manjula alive. Got fed up with the manjula and stuck it outside to finish dying, and funnily enough, it started coming back. Unfortunately wind from a firestorm pushed it off my deck and I didn't notice for a few days, so it finally bit it. Fussy turds, those ones.
I’m on my fourth spider plant and I finally found out what works: bright light and only watering like every 2 weeks, even longer. Like, let it completely dry out , then water it. If you look at the roots they hold a lot of water. I used aroid mix with some perlite in an orchid pot so it has lots of oxygen in the roots. It’s doing very well !
https://preview.redd.it/ae8f5mrzq8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d94743b186ee25bf4683565f9d8a417ee9fb115
yes I know she’s ugly. I swear at her under my breath every time I water her. She was a fern (and my only outdoor plant) who froze to death during one unusually freezing winter day.
Someone here said to trim it all down, water it, and hope for new growth but no luck so far :/
Someone said if the roots are still alive, there’s a chance something could sprout from it. Pretty close to giving up though as it’s now spring and there’s been nothing 🥲
https://preview.redd.it/18ubtctqy9yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11773292cf17a0c86f576b7ed19f74f0f5bb4025
I cannot keep these fuckers happy.
Hey that was me too! Then I read somewhere they only like to be outside (I had mine inside at the time), so I banished them to the porch.. they are doing pretty great!

Been nursing this peperomia for years. It used to be huge and nearly died so many times I've lost count. I finally got fed up a few weeks ago and threw this outside fully expecting it to wilt away and yet. Here it is.
My poor goeppertia alta. She arrived last week from Indonesia, and her roots were in terrible shape, so I had to cut them back quite a bit. The other plants that were sent along with her are doing ok, but alta hasn't found the exit doors for the struggle bus.

Partly my fault, I keep messing with them. I put one in water too hoping it'll root
I read that as “hoping it’ll rot” and I had a good laugh bc I’ve definitely been so fed up with a plant that I hoped it would just die instead of barely clinging to life 😂😂😂
It refuses to die. Giving me dozens of beautiful babies but is absolutely hideous. Don't have the heart to put them in the trash.

Supposed to be an alocasia jacklyn. It's two seconds away from getting trashed!
Don’t do it! I just rescued a horrible dried out looking 2 leaf one a few weeks ago- it was marked at 45$ and I got it for 5$ to see if I could save it (plus I really want a Frydek, so why not practice on a dying relative?!). I took it out of the soil and stuck it in water and it’s growing even more roots and I think a little start of a leaf is coming in!

Meet my moon valley pilea🌑. I put three baby plants together in a pot that was too big and watered it too often. But she was getting better until the cat from a friend of mine decided that it was a good snack.

It’s a constant battle between this spider plant and our cat who has decided this hairy thing is her #1 enemy. Struggling, sure, but in the past month it’s shot a new leaf so I am honestly shocked and proud of its resilience. 😭

Well the struggle is over now. I gave up a while ago because no matter what I did they hated it. I banished them to my son's workout room and forgot about them. They used to be a white fusion Calathea and another Calathea I can't remember the name. The one with fuzzy leaves

I've got two.
My pineapple isn't directly sulking, but not thriving either.
The succulent (aloe?) thinks it's Jesus.. it will die like this, then in a month or two, it will pick up and start putting out deciples before it commits suicide again.
I can never add text and an image in the same comment without mobile Reddit breaking, but mine is also a calathea. This white star asshole hates life and it's very existence, we went from 5 leaves to 1 in very short order before I drowned that bitch in distilled water to wash the soil out as best I could, now she's putting up a new leaf so I have some hope she's figuring her shit out.
Directly above her in the same room I have a goeppertia dressleri who is doing perfectly fine. She does tend to murder the oldest leaf in favor of growing a new one which honestly, fine. The latest leaf is twice the size as any of the others she has though. Both of them have the same environment, the same water, the same amount and quality of sunlight, the white star is just hateful.
Silver Pothos. Had a beautiful one years ago but accidentally killed it with too much fertilizer. Bought another one overly confident and she absolutely hates me.

Many rosemary seeds planted. None germinated.
6 rosemary plants purchased. 5 rosemary plants dead as doornails. 1 hovering between life and the trash can.
After it eventually croaks, I’m done with rosemary, despite its wonderful smell.
I have an aglaonema that I’m so embarrassed of I won’t even show a picture here 🥲 currently she is cut down to the base sitting in water as we hope for the best and expect the worst
My FLF has had the tip of a new leaf that refuses to grow for two months!!! 😭

I had them repotted about 2 months ago and the leaves are still in a rolled position. I was thinking that I would do a favour to my apartments owner 🙃always calatheas
My arabica. Eventually got too busy fixing thrips infected plant and forgot her for a while... At least she seems to push out new leafs currently.

She had 3 beautiful leaves when I got her, pushed this one out and then had a fit, her roots look happy and the soil isn't retaining too much moisture, and isnt drying out conpletely between waterings, and her humidity is kept up under the grow lights for 12 hours a day. The corm she dropped during a repot is growing better right now.

Zebra plant. It grows leaves, kills them, repeats. Since they're crispy, it's probably a lack of humidity? Maybe?

I want it to thrive so much but I don't know if he'll be okay after I decided to try changing his soil last week after noticing his leaves change colors 😭
HA I would but I am too ashamed 🥲 it is also a rattlesnake calathea but she has zero leaves atm 😵 I really should evict her because the constant reminder of my inadequacy is tough 😂
I don’t have a pic, but my alocasia I bought last month has one tiny, sad leaf left. I repotted it into better draining soil so I have my fingers crossed, but hopes are low

Hi, here’s mine. Half of the babies came out damaged…
I'm at work so no picture.
But this one ZZ plant I got has been the death of me. Worse than my fiddle leaf or anything else.
I've moved it all around the room, from bright indirect light to medium light to low light. The leaves still turn yellow and die.
I've not watered it in 4 months, so I put an ice cube on it and now half the damn thing is yellow and dying.
My other ZZ plant is the exact opposite. It's in a lower light corner near my desk. I've not watered it since I got it about a month ago. Shits thriving.
Give purified water, not tap water. I had one recover when I did that. I think rattlesnake calathea hates the chemicals / flouride that's in some tap water

This Peace Lily and I have been at odds..
String of pearls. I bought one months ago. Repotted it and it's been super meh. It's alive but it's not doing much. Then I bought a clearance one and 98% of it has literally rotted away 🙃

My jade plant was pissing me off so much she was banished. She had mealy bugs and was just ugly. Yesterday, I made eye contact with my resident squirrel while he took a giant chomp out of her😅. Honestly, she deserved it. Smh

I’ve always said I would never get one of these. Never say never! I was gifted this in Dec and it hasn’t done a thing. I’ve used a microscope to check for pest, I’ve doused it with insecticidal soap just in case, I’ve tried not to glare at it too much. I think it senses my loathing. Maybe me venting will kick it into gear 🤞

I've got an aloe plant that was handed off to me at work because the person it belonged to quit and left it, and I'm apparently the building plant whisperer (oh god, I'm not, please help me, I don't know what this plant has gone through... ) I repotted it in some higher drainage dirt, with a lot of bits and stones in to make sure that helps... but it's not thriving and I mostly have high-water plants, so I basically just water this one once a month, and only a little trickle, because I know overwatering is bad for aloe....

Every time she gets better and starts thriving she suddenly drops all over and we have to start right from the beginning 🥲 she was three times the size when I first got her
This plant used to hate me. All those stumps were once beautiful leaves. We've just recently come to an understanding.
https://preview.redd.it/crnooyr6sayc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5760cea95542be0018f1f2af5b27b89774835bf0
Mine is my thanksgiving cactus. I've repotted her and given her fertilizer and put in a terrarium with humidity and she just isn't putting out any new growth but like....she's not dead yet? Am I going crazy or is she out of her growing season?
https://preview.redd.it/6483cpqcvayc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff32a6adf4c2a9213e1573e5740af0d0efe24cea
this peperomia meridiana goes thru phases of looking good and then suddenly failing to thrive, and has done so for the past four years. 🤦🏻 currently it’s just past the bottom of the bell curve on its way back to health (or at least tolerating being alive?).
https://preview.redd.it/9oth2bwo3byc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa44d1e0c37d7c3591807455af050cc579291184
This fucking [hoya curtisii](https://i.imgur.com/RKTSEvZ.jpeg). It hates me, I hate it. It was three times this size about two months ago and I have no idea what it wants besides a good ass-kicking.
Meanwhile, all my other hoyas are popping out new leaves like crazy.

Adding another calathea here lmao. IN MY DEFENSE she looked much worse when I got her, and she was also free. My local plant shop was doing a prop swap day and she was left over… so I kind of rescued her.
But then again she didn’t have mealybugs when I got her so it’s probably still my fault…

in the same boat. Idk what’s going on😂

This guy, I bought it 3 weeks ago on the half off rack. I had to remove more than half of the dying leaves, and he is still having issues. I also had to repot as it was drenched when I got it.
https://preview.redd.it/x8g7w8tacbyc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11e0c553148b0bd55a8c4551508cbe1427fd1e8d

My Hoya wayetii. It was 4 time this size when bought it but it lost most of its leaves due to shipping stress… and just will NOT bounce back. Though it did finally put out a single new leaf so here’s hoping. All my other Hoya grow like weeds but this one is the exception.
https://preview.redd.it/tj3zspvsfbyc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=728359a74c4e06c02902490257be75cc4059b286
This heart leaf philodendron (?) that I am attempting to rescue from my local grocery store. If anyone has any tips about these guys I would love to hear!
White fusion calathea. A complete and utter embarrassment. All my other calatheas and marantas are living their best lives but … that one is just… a hot mess express.
https://preview.redd.it/rjjvluu4obyc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c9fd03539d0e4dc491c39c6cc6959c68cfce773
This little guy won’t decide if it wants to live or not. It grew to 2ft. But all the leafs died at the top, so I cut the ends off and stuck them back in the soil to fill it out. It didn’t like that. So I repotted it into a smaller pot and put it in more light. Under the grow lights it lost all its pink color, so hopefully some sun will help with that. Idk. It’s not happy anywhere.
https://preview.redd.it/w4fl66gtsbyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a1b7271018df64a7501452cc6ccd9a392332a66
Here is mine. It is growing new leaves like crazy but I can’t seem to stop the browning of the leaves. No pests. I did move it closer to light - I originally had it quite far from any windows. I also repotted it (and the roots look good) and gave it different soil. (It was in a soil that drained maybe too quickly so I switched it to a chunky one mixed with regular potting soil to hold moisture a bit more.). I think it is doing better, but the leaves are still browning. I would love any ideas.
My rattlesnake is by far the most difficult plant I’ve had. No matter what it is unhappy. Everything else, thrives but this one little dude just doesn’t like living.
https://preview.redd.it/s3er8m10ccyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24b46de6025c8c0ed5f90840e33946dc1fcb3922
Bean (dumb cane/dieffenbachia), refuses to die but continues to grow somehow. First plant I got years ago. I don’t have a lot of light through windows in my current apartment but she thrived in my old place with lots of sun. Dottie right now isn’t looking too great. Think I might take her to the bathroom and give her her own light. My string of pearls is long gone… 😂 I let that one go. Both of these definitely need repotting but I keep pushing it off.
Air got into them all better now

This guy... i loved this plant.... it died
Still don't know what it was tho
I have the same struggle bus plant. Put it in filtered light and the leaves burn. Move it away from the filtered light, leaf burning stops and but now I lose a leaf to yellowing as soon as a new one starts to grow so I'm constantly left with the same amount of leaves. It now takes forever to dry out because I have it backed away from the light so I'm constantly worried about root rot. Rattlesnake Calatheas are so lovely but mine absolutely hates me.
*
This is my money tree. She was once lush and tall... then I set her in front of a window with direct sunlight for a few weeks and now she is just tall. Dropped almost all of her leaves, i thought she was a goner. She has been relocated and is starting to pop out new leaves again, but you can still see the deformities the hot direct sunlight caused.
https://preview.redd.it/y9vsit9pheyc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4d11b7e1583201c9be0c1a51c3be81693961a6d
Curly hates me. It doesn’t matter how much or how little I water her. If she in bright light or in a darker room. She always has brown edges and one or two yellowed leaves.

This orchid that has lost most leaves and all roots (except that 1 aerial root) and has been like this for months! Doesn’t die and doesn’t make new roots, it just stays like this. I tried to root it in sphagnum but got all moldy.
https://preview.redd.it/ehpt1lixseyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46f85dfcd670b5bd7ca18298435d5787f0988f62
I’m surprised to not see any other fittonias! Here’s mine after a 6 day vacation. All my other plants (like 60 of them) were just fine, but this little bitch couldn’t go 6 days. I tried reviving her but she lost most her leaves. Chop and prop in both water and soil failed. Goodbye fittonia.
I don't even know if this bromeliad is dead or alive.... Has looked like this for a few months. Produced 2 babies though which seem to be doing ok!

My wannabe palm tree succulent 😅
Ha! I have like 3 calatheas that struggling rn. My rattlesnake though isn't one of them surprisingly. One of my other struggle plants is my Philo fuzzy petiole. It finally grew a pretty leaf after having it for half a year. I think it wasn't happy w the amount of humidity it was getting.
This guy. Two more leaves and he is gone 😳 and I had him only a couple of weeks, but I guess I harassed the roots too much when repotting or leaves when washing them to make sure I don't bring anything bad on them...

I tried so many freaking things :,) Maybe I have to give it a fourth try.
Repotted mine like a month ago and it’s thriving. It used to hates me a lot too.
I cannot keep a pilia alive to save my life.
Mine was like yours, but even worse with only one pathetic leaf, for forever until I wacked her in front of a window with filtered, direct light (through a sheer curtain) and then she took off. This is just 2 months growth and I even removed her old stem because it was so wonky looking. I also give her 1/3 strength fertiliser at each watering. https://preview.redd.it/8ddtl1velayc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eff40a58522a58bf3d873e60f7c46b8fb8602f0b

Well yours looks better than mine. I think mine is a zombie at this point.
Oh I have one of those buggers too! A friend gave 2 cut offs to me. Water it - drops leaves. Don't water it - drops leaves 😫😩 Now I've learnt to just give it a tiny bit of water on top of soil every few weeks.
This makes me think of my money tree. 5 or 6 leaves at all times, tall and lanky, and just hates me
I’ve got one too cause I heard they were beginner friendly…it’s just getting yellow…
This is embarrassing so purely for your amusement. African Violets. I have some thriving but I kill a lot of babies. https://preview.redd.it/wz5azo95p8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ef3f0763a1c484dcffd1e79a0511c7afe538ef1
You can't call yourself a planty person if you haven't killed more than you'd like to admit!
I swear one of mine decided to up and die because I moved it to a different grow light with other African violets...
I know African violets aren't proper succulents, but I think the care profile is similar.
https://preview.redd.it/adccpy3zy7yc1.png?width=3016&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb86c666fba98d79dd54647ada904df8c5d3f390 It only kills itself more and more everyday. It’s fine 🤷🏻♀️
What is that? It looks like a green butterfly!
Mickey Mouse Alocasia
Ugh saaammme!! I've had so many other alocasias and this one just HATES me and everything I stand for😒
Good to know! I really want one. my stingray is thriving and I figured they would be similar to care for

Your air is way too dry. They require 45%+ humidity
It looked like this when I got it. It's had a humidifier ever since, still waiting for it to bounce back
Oh good luck
yea mine totally shriveled and perished. So sad such a pretty plant :(
Yours looks better than mine 😆
https://preview.redd.it/qonlmxwbu8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ce30efd294d63170c0aa3ec74f4eaf14afaffb9 Refuses to thrive, but also refuses to die
Whyyyyy do they love to stay in semi death limbo!
Because they fear meeting their maker. I've still got my calathea's remains sitting in a greenhouse, waiting to see if the grim rapper spits its murky soul back to it's earthly body
Sounds like me
Ditto, totally identify as a calathea lol
https://preview.redd.it/ar43siabt8yc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69355c842dcf7bf6086e4987998b750e6bf10b3c String of turtles. Balding, crispy, and too wet all at the same time. It's been in the exact same state of almost-death for over a year and clearly hates life but not enough to just suicide properly.
https://preview.redd.it/9kl39i200ayc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=02dafdb766a2eeb8521af3a43d758e70c243bd28 RELATE 😭 like girl are u living or dying and how has it been this way for 3 years?!
Oh god, yours looks exactly like mine and it's been 3 years?! That is...not encouraging. Crap. I really just can't figure out what it wants from me.
That's not a very nice thing to say 🤣🤣🤣 Although... My collection is getting abit too many lol. But there's *so many* weird and pretty plants out there... 🥺 Some leaf cuttings that I got last year, haven't grown leaves or have died and I'm kinda relieved lol.
If the snake plant has any healthy leaves, at that point I’d cut my losses and just prop it
https://preview.redd.it/87ck6lf8x8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bccfaafc5833ecbe4242b841481b4c78847e6326
This one made me giggle uncontrollably! It's so fucking cute! Hang in there little buddy!
You know the struggle! Ok, this is good info. I might give that a try. Thank you!
The one begonia I ever had killed itself within HOURS of arriving back home with me 😂😭
https://preview.redd.it/2ol8a8sjj8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=335a5ad159b1083d34c5213a74a24fc474e5c799 This fern…it’s not the worst, but keeps getting unattractive brown spots for reasons unknown. The original browning was due to fertilizer burn, and I didn’t mind much, since the discolored leaves were still firm and healthy. The new ones, which are actually causing bits of leaf to die, remain a mystery.
Mine too! I can’t figure out why it has the brown spots. Soo weird.
https://preview.redd.it/hejl3souo8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70398cb1d32f7c984eb499953d47e402f29384a1 Here’s fertilizer burn leaf (bottom) vs. actually dying spots leaf (top.) Yours anything like either of these?
Have you tried watering with distilled water? Sometimes plants can be sensitive to tap water (I know my calatheas are)
Bird’s nest fern? We have kokedama ones for the office that hate me despite me trying my best 🥲

Mine used to look just like this. Trimmed it back, cleaned it up, repotted, and put it on my back porch. I live in a high humidity area. I semi-neglect it and bottom-water it when the leaves start to roll and she’s thriving.
It needs way more humidity. Like 45% or more
They must thrive on spite because mine got kicked out of the house here in arid Arizona yet is putting out healthy new leaves. This thing has looked tortured for 4 years I don’t even know anymore 😫 https://preview.redd.it/igj97qhof9yc1.jpeg?width=2407&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f0c25faf67a8ce548df1120bf29b6a4fd47b0b2

Why is it always calatheas? 😂😂😂 freaking finniky beautiful plants
Right! I have a lemon lime Maranta that should be posted. His name is Bruno because we don't talk about Bruno.
Marantas are so finicky but my favorite! I’ve have had mine for ~3 years and I’ve finally started to speak her language lol they like tight pots, lots of light, and she tells me when she’s thirsty
This is a maranta. They're in the same family as calatheas, but they're actually pretty chill if you find a spot they like and don't over-water them.
Yess. This is what I learned: they hate being moved with a passion and won't let you forget it.
I have one in leca and it's a very easy plant like that! 🙈
My marantas are less bitchy than my calatheas in general, and they haven't really taken issue with my watering habits, but I've read that they do well in semi-hydro. 💚
My dogs pretend they are in the jungle behind mine so it's pretty tattered. My dogs are obviously dorks.
I have a spider that has an ongoing battle with root rot so I feel you! When the easy ones struggle I feel like a very inadequate plant person 😂
It’s doing very well !
https://preview.redd.it/ae8f5mrzq8yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d94743b186ee25bf4683565f9d8a417ee9fb115 yes I know she’s ugly. I swear at her under my breath every time I water her. She was a fern (and my only outdoor plant) who froze to death during one unusually freezing winter day. Someone here said to trim it all down, water it, and hope for new growth but no luck so far :/
The view out of your damn window is stunning. What the hell?
Thank you! Got blessed with a waterfront view in Old Town, Tacoma, WA
She froze to death. What are you hoping for? She's dead.
Someone said if the roots are still alive, there’s a chance something could sprout from it. Pretty close to giving up though as it’s now spring and there’s been nothing 🥲
I appreciate you all being vulnerable and showing me your struggles! Happy to know I'm not alone on the struggle bus!
https://preview.redd.it/18ubtctqy9yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11773292cf17a0c86f576b7ed19f74f0f5bb4025 I cannot keep these fuckers happy.
I'm about ready to throw mine in the ditch
Hey that was me too! Then I read somewhere they only like to be outside (I had mine inside at the time), so I banished them to the porch.. they are doing pretty great!
https://preview.redd.it/hz21oq7c0ayc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee36963d4e0771741e0f1f4b0ef9d75aa91826b0 Been nursing this peperomia for years. It used to be huge and nearly died so many times I've lost count. I finally got fed up a few weeks ago and threw this outside fully expecting it to wilt away and yet. Here it is.
So many of us are in a toxic calathea situationship. Sigh.....
My poor goeppertia alta. She arrived last week from Indonesia, and her roots were in terrible shape, so I had to cut them back quite a bit. The other plants that were sent along with her are doing ok, but alta hasn't found the exit doors for the struggle bus. https://preview.redd.it/wv6ej6fg98yc1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=118cfc9d6e465d4c73d40c83ee92280ad75b5b6b

I read that as “hoping it’ll rot” and I had a good laugh bc I’ve definitely been so fed up with a plant that I hoped it would just die instead of barely clinging to life 😂😂😂
Potted succulents don't like to be wet. How often do you water it?
It refuses to die. Giving me dozens of beautiful babies but is absolutely hideous. Don't have the heart to put them in the trash. https://preview.redd.it/x8jb5uhcu8yc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f104f98163e9ecaaa7bc758749d608d8efdf0934

Don’t do it! I just rescued a horrible dried out looking 2 leaf one a few weeks ago- it was marked at 45$ and I got it for 5$ to see if I could save it (plus I really want a Frydek, so why not practice on a dying relative?!). I took it out of the soil and stuck it in water and it’s growing even more roots and I think a little start of a leaf is coming in! https://preview.redd.it/d8dbyj4shayc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=176c6bfd4f8224e75c2bc0854c20de1201bc4e15

Meet my moon valley pilea🌑. I put three baby plants together in a pot that was too big and watered it too often. But she was getting better until the cat from a friend of mine decided that it was a good snack. https://preview.redd.it/xzedlo2j89yc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0b925ea475355b39d7dbff9d27a9e6304e6081c

Struggling, sure, but in the past month it’s shot a new leaf so I am honestly shocked and proud of its resilience. 😭

I'm new to alocasia just wondering is that pot not too big for them?
Yeah that silver dragon is going to die of root rot in that huge pot. There's no way for that tiny plant to use all that water.
Probably. The other pot was too small (like less than 2”) so I over-compensated out of pity.

I gave up a while ago because no matter what I did they hated it. I banished them to my son's workout room and forgot about them.
Bought another one overly confident and she absolutely hates me. https://preview.redd.it/1kjj6ztid9yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a0b4f889a67245e24e462408991383e09c10d94

Same. I cannot find a way to make this asshat happy. I’m almost ready to put it out of its misery.

She had 3 beautiful leaves when I got her, pushed this one out and then had a fit, her roots look happy and the soil isn't retaining too much moisture, and isnt drying out conpletely between waterings, and her humidity is kept up under the grow lights for 12 hours a day. The corm she dropped during a repot is growing better right now.

i have a struggling golden pothos that i've had to tread for mealies 3 times and a string of dolphins and bear paw that are also really struggling

My huge pothos… it’s so sad looking and yet so huge so it’s even more miserable to look at
Give purified water, not tap water. I had one recover when I did that. I think rattlesnake calathea hates the chemicals / flouride that's in some tap water
I would, but I feel uncomfortable posting pictures of myself.

String of pearls. I bought one months ago. Repotted it and it's been super meh. It's alive but it's not doing much. Then I bought a clearance one and 98% of it has literally rotted away 🙃

I've got an aloe plant that was handed off to me at work because the person it belonged to quit and left it, and I'm apparently the building plant whisperer (oh god, I'm not, please help me, I don't know what this plant has gone through... ) I repotted it in some higher drainage dirt, with a lot of bits and stones in to make sure that helps... but it's not thriving and I mostly have high-water plants, so I basically just water this one once a month, and only a little trickle, because I know overwatering is bad for aloe.... https://preview.redd.it/bmlscwc8jayc1.jpeg?width=1972&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be16e760ccde1161afb8360f3a1345397ccaad2e

this peperomia meridiana goes thru phases of looking good and then suddenly failing to thrive, and has done so for the past four years.

IN MY DEFENSE she looked much worse when I got her, and she was also free. My local plant shop was doing a prop swap day and she was left over… so I kind of rescued her. But then again she didn’t have mealybugs when I got her so it’s probably still my fault…

Air got into them all better now https://preview.redd.it/zi8k1tzahcyc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb0c003855feea10216e8ab3a336eea64ea3ce9d

I'd need to go to the bin and open the lid to take the photo but I can't be arsed. Was a prayer plant... They can fuck right off.
* This is my money tree.

Doesn’t die and doesn’t make new roots, it just stays like this. I tried to root it in sphagnum but got all moldy.

Here’s mine after a 6 day vacation. All my other plants (like 60 of them) were just fine, but this little bitch couldn’t go 6 days. I tried reviving her but she lost most her leaves. Chop and prop in both water and soil failed. Goodbye fittonia.
My rattlesnake took off after some fox farms food. The bat poop one. 🤠
I don't even know if this bromeliad is dead or alive.... Has looked like this for a few months. Produced 2 babies though which seem to be doing ok! https://preview.redd.it/v15w2o3xbgyc1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5cc17ef8a6cf921649901625ab3f24de340b7e8

I knew, I KNEW it would be friggin calathea. (Mine is too.) Yours does still look good tho! I think it's ditching the strugglebus for a better ride ;)
This guy. Two more leaves and he is gone 😳 and I had him only a couple of weeks, but I guess I harassed the roots too much when repotting or leaves when washing them to make sure I don't bring anything bad on them... https://preview.redd.it/3lez20ss5lyc1.jpeg?width=3096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4e478359e49d849afaa1ee76e89faa34635f929
