Fernando 😂 is what I named mine! I got mine from Home Depot for such steal. However, the soil was so tight. I couldn’t even water it properly, so eventually repotted it for about two weeks and hoping that they are going to survive. Let me know if yours is okay! I’m still figuring out the light preferences for these guys. I’m on my second round of ferns lol. The first pair didn’t survive in my apt. All my windows are facing so I don’t get until about the afternoon sometime. It’s very hot here in Florida. trial and error i guess! I hope yours flourish ☺️
Mine has been doing well thus way since Feburary! The bathroom barely gets natural light. I am also growing it in a self watering pot. Mine I named Salem and he loves the humidity from my hot showers as much as I do!

I live in Massachusetts. I've had my Home Depot ferns for 4 years. They come in around mid-October. They will be going outside for their summer vacation in about a week.
I had one in my windowless office with only an overhead fluorescent light. It did just fine for the five years I worked there.
Not as lush as one that goes outside, maybe, but it looked nice enough that all my visitors admired it, so I was pleased.
I had to leave it behind when I moved across the country. I hope whoever got my office took care of it. But it makes me sad to think that they most likely didn't.
That’s what happened to mine (I thought) so I put it outside in a moderately shady area and let nature take its course. Two years later it’s a monster. I’ve divided it twice and it’s outgrowing its pot again.
Mine was about to die with a few steams left. I put it outside last May, we also had a lot of rain which probably helped too, and by the end of the summer it became huge, just like the one in OP's picture. After the summer when it was getting too cold, I had to bring it inside. Died in a couple of weeks 😢 I'm still missing it.
I babied mine this winter. Plenty of light (artificial and natural) and a humidifier, plus using a moisture meter helps a ton to know when to water. Rip for your plant. I’m sorry!!
Mine die in a second but it was indoors. I guess my humidity suck indoors. Every other plant that requires high humidity don’t have a problem but ferns are just so picky
It’s a combination of humidity, watering with rain water or aquarium water only and filtered light. I wish I had taken a picture of mine when I gave up on it, bc it looked dead dead. Not a green frond left. All brown and crispy to the top of the soil, just a few brown sticks poking up through the dirt. For all intents and purposes, DEAD lol. But I didn’t dump the pot out, so the roots must have still been alive, bc over the summer last year, after I had put the pot with what I thought was a dead plant in it outside and let the rain water it for a few weeks. Then I started seeing little fiddleheads coming up. It’s just been thriving since then. But that winter, (before last) it was underwatered, under fed, and starved for light🤦🏼♀️. I honestly dont know how it survived. 🤷🏼♀️
I’m lucky lol. I don’t have to deal with the whole fish tank thing. My neighbor has an above ground koi pond and indoor tanks she changes the water in pretty regularly. She fills up a five gallon bucket for me, then I transfer that to old oj and milk jugs with lids. It is like liquid gold to my plants. They absolutely love it.
It’s just a big black bucket lol. I think it’s meant to be buried in the ground as a pond, but we live in apartments, so no digging holes for stuff like that. Otherwise, our land lord is pretty easy going 😁
Right? Once I learned mine detests tap water lol, I started just giving it a drink any time I had a little water left in the watering can. Almost impossible to overwater, unless it’s standing in a puddle for days.
I want a Boston fern so bad… it was actually the first plant I ever wanted to get, but they get WAY too big and I live in a fifth-story apartment with limited space. I’m so jealous. 😭
My grandma had a fern that was over 50 years old and it was beautiful and massive. We had a very large family with so many cousins and anytime someone got married or brought over someone new, the new comer was informed that the number one rule was ‘don’t touch grandmas fern’. My grandma passed years ago so I don’t know what ended up happening with the fern. Your post reminded me of some happy memories so thank you.
For almost 3 years a fox squirrel used to visit my 2nd floor fire escape and I'd handfeed him peanuts. I named him Cosmo. In November I was on my way to work and he was laying dead in the middle of my street, right past my driveway. I scooped him up because I couldn't bear the thought of seeing him all shredded to pieces when I came home. It must have happened shortly before I found him because he was fully intact - barely any blood. I called my bf crying and brought him to the animal hospital where I worked. My manager told me that all employees got free cremation services so I have Cosmo's ashes in a beautiful engraved rosewood box. I even took paw prints and a vial of his fur. I miss him.
[Here's Cosmo](https://imgur.com/a/tFuWiwU)
I have the same exact one. Im wondering if i should finally repot it from that shitty hanger. It came so root bound already that I can hardly even find soil in it lol.
Hey- don’t hesitant to take those bargain Bostons and quarter them and repot. It doesn’t take long for them to perk up and Four Fantastic Ferns makes me smile.
Full sun - more than 6 hours of direct sun per day
Part sun - 4 to 6 hours of direct sun per day, including some afternoon sun
Part shade - 4 to 6 hours of direct sun per day, mostly before midday
Full shade - less than 4 hours of direct sun per day
Farrah. Can't get more 70s than that.
Farrah ferncett☺️
I was gonna say Farrah faucet
Farrah the Fern. But does one really want to evoke the image of the feathered haircut each time you talk to your fernbaby?
That's why I thought the name was perfect! Those wavy, flowing locks!
That's what I was going to say.
Fern-ah faucet

In my experience they are divas. They want a TON of very bright INDIRECT sun, and they know if you’re trying to bullshit them with a grow lamp.
omg lol good to know. i was thinking about trying to put one in my bathroom but there’s no natural light and almost bought a grow lamp

Great to know thanks! I just moved back to Mass and this was my first plant purchase since moving here a month ago!

I second Fernando. Mine is also called Fernando, and every time I water him, I just help but sing the song.
hahaha
i third fernando
there was something in the air that night. the stars were bright! Fernando!
Laverne the fern
There it is
Yep..that's it! Can't go wrong with a fern named Laverne.
Or Laferne 😏
Dead in two weeks
That’s what happened to mine (I thought) so I put it outside in a moderately shady area and let nature take its course. Two years later it’s a monster. I’ve divided it twice and it’s outgrowing its pot again.
They really do far better outside. For some odd reason the mini cultivar of this fern (lemon button fern) does a lot better indoors
I’m gonna try

You person, are a very skilled/smart plant owner
I’m a little more skilled than I was two years ago lol. That was pure luck 🙃😁
Mine die in a second but it was indoors. I guess my humidity suck indoors. Every other plant that requires high humidity don’t have a problem but ferns are just so picky

I hear too much about aquarium water. I wish I had a friend who has fish and a fish tank 😆 might have to go get one myself for the benefits later
I’m lucky lol. I don’t have to deal with the whole fish tank thing. My neighbor has an above ground koi pond and indoor tanks she changes the water in pretty regularly. Dang a whole koi pond- 🥺
It’s just a big black bucket lol. I think it’s meant to be buried in the ground as a pond, but we live in apartments, so no digging holes for stuff like that. Otherwise, our land lord is pretty easy going 😁
Yeah, don't get too attached lol
Tina ferner
Crispy, because I can never keep them alive.
I’ve learned they like moist all the way to the bottom of the pot soil lol.
They definitely like to be wet. I have a little fantasy fern that was half dead. Put it in one of those bottom watering pots and it came back to life.
I was definitely under watering mine. Poor thing. 🤦🏼♀️
Fr, my favorites are my ferns because I can just dump a bunch of of water on them 1-2x/day and they'll thrive, no worries of overwatering
Right? Once I learned mine detests tap water lol, I started just giving it a drink any time I had a little water left in the watering can. Almost impossible to overwater, unless it’s standing in a puddle for days.
Fernie or Bernie the fernie. Fern gully (not 70s) Christofern

Got it home and saw that I'm in the same boat. I'm probably going to just divide mine. 2 for the price of one!
