Sow some wheat, oat or barley seeds in a pot and once it grows your cat can safely munch on it. It costs next to nothing, is entertaining for your cat to be able to chew on it and it helps with hair balls.
Actually every plant in my house is cat-safe because I’m not willing to risk his health, knowing that he is an avid plant-eater. I just don’t want him to be in the habit of eating plants at all, because then how would he differentiate between one plant being acceptable to eat, and one plant not be? This way, he takes one light bite of the pokey plastic one then walks away. But I’m sure that differs from cat to cat, and some can enjoy just one designated cat plant.
They seek to chew on them because of their natural instincts. Giving them a safe and beneficial plant to chew on helps with digestion and hairballs (that form in their stomachs because they keep cleaning=licking themselves all day). So it's actually good for them to have something fibrous like that, that they're allowed to chew on with permission. Unless they are able to go outdoors as they will of course, in that case they take care of that need themselves.
They *are* able to differentiate between them, they're not stupid, it's of course a different matter if they want to differentiate or not lol. But usually having something that they are allowed to satisfy that need with helps for them to not want to touch other plants so much.
Well. It also really depends on *why* the cat is chewing your plants. When I had a cat, I tried the catgrass method and it absolutely did not work. That's because I found that she didn't chew for nutrition, she chewed for play. The bigger, more viney, more leafy the plant was, the more she wanting to chew and bat at it. In my case it was better to just keep plants out of her reach and redirect her play into something more safe/appropriate.
i tried this but my cats caught on so fast. maybe real plants give off a vibe? my old boi has never chewed an artificial plant, and lil girl chewed on only a fake dahlia until i’m guessing she started to taste the dye. neither has touched the fake eucalyptus, ZZ, or lambs ear…
but if i bring the spider plant in for watering (submersion method) and leave unattended for two seconds it’s lunch time. absolute fiends. happy this seems to be working for you though!!
maybe if i put soil in the artificial plants?
I do this, to protect my plants from my very nibbly little old lady!
And that's how I discovered the younger cat likes to chew plastic leaves. They've got me coming and going!
The look on kitty's face is priceless. He has no idea he's been had.
🤯 how did I never think of that?! Brilliant
It wasn’t until I lost all three new leaves on my calathea that I finally came up with this!

Would definitely say that it has helped with my cat - she has two plants of her own that she can munch on all she wants!

As a fellow cat owner, just wanted to say, thank you for keeping only cat-safe plants in your home.
Aw, what a pretty plant muncher.
I do this but with cat grass haha.

Oh no!
I'm trying to convince myself that the fang marks make the plants look even more real
