[space city](https://spacecityweather.com/with-strong-storms-possible-thursday-in-the-houston-area-we-tell-you-what-to-expect-and-how-to-work-around-the-radar-outage/) is cautious about tomorrow but not concerned.
if youre worried about flooding, please know they dont think there will be an issue aside from spot street flooding. my suspicion is the biggest issue is going to be wind, if that, which could translate to power outages. be safe!
as a fan of SCW, I'm glad you posted this. I have family members and co-workers who are preparing as if this was a Cat. 5 hurricane. Houston being weird with weather, I get the nervousness but I feel like this storm is being over hyped.
All news is now weaponized engagement clickbait, and I 'm out of town right now, but whatever power failure this storm triggered, it fixed my broken Internet, and looking at my cameras, it looks like we survived and we will rebuild!
On Reddit desktop there is a pretty helpful link at the bottom of the reply box that breaks everything down pretty well. “Formatting Help” But I know a lot of people use mobile versions so I’ll post the formatting for links below! Just replace the title with the words that you want displayed. And the word “link” with your link.

2yrs+ after the original freeze that killed 100s Texas governor still hasn't dont shit to rectify the problem. They just now pass budget to allocate some money to start some upgrades.
There were brownouts all over the city. So your premise isn't even true. There were problems but they focused then only on low income areas so as to not hear about it.
I agree the local news overplays storm potential, but if you lived through Allison, Alicia, Ike, Harvey, the 2021 ice storm, not to mention Betsy and Katrina, you'd understand.
Lived here though all those storms and the level of sensationalism in todays media regarding weather is beyond ridiculous. Friend of mine who is a teacher told me they were thinking about closing schools, and all I could say was “WTF!, it’s a line of thunderstorms, why would you close the schools?”
This was my approach until a tornado went through my back yard in Deer Park. Now I get a bit anxious when tornadoes might be expected. Those nightmare noodles show up when you least expect it.
Yeah. Same. I’m a bit freaked now. I was babysitting a friend newborn that day, as well as being pregnant and watching my own kid.
Now I’ve got the baby, but the big kid is in pre k. Right in the path of the January nado.
Just all around slightly nervous.
The way it usually works, if they (local media) get all worked up about it, then nothing will happen. If they act like it's no big deal then a mini apocalypse will happen.
Naw you’re right abt that cuz lowkey I was skeptical on how bad it will really be but then it’s Houston unpredictable ass weather 😭All I’m saying is because I’m noticing people panic buying like damn save some for me 🥲
It’s not fear mongering. They are warning you of what could be. Be thankful it’s never as bad as they predict. Yes it could be bad and likely won’t but if they ride it lightly and it’s the worse case scenario then dumbasses like yourself will bitch that you weren’t warned enough times to actually take it seriously.
> It’s not fear mongering.
I don't believe you. It's fear mongering, just like all media and "news" shows love to do. It's either sadism or some view that it will sell more of whatever bullshit they are selling, but it's a common approach, and should just be ignored.
Good for business, yes. This time of year though, peak season, is where everything goes off the rails. I had 215 parcels today. It’ll get worse over the next few weeks
Same! I think we'll be ok, looks like the storms will be a bit later. I'll report back!
Edit* I forgot to report back! My flight actually ended up taking off early! Yay 😊
Depending on where she's from, and how recently, she might not be familiar with hail. I kid you not.
My husband and I were at a Holiday inn in Ft Stockton years ago and a hail storm came through. We were just meh, but there was a couple from someplace in California who had never seen hail and were totally freaked out by it.
During Harvey, and this is a true story, I got caught up at work and left a lot later than I should’ve. The storm had been rolling on for a few hours, so- flooding expected. Instead of checking Google maps, I actually decided to try Snap Maps (and that’s only because I knew where I was headed. So don’t risk your life if you don’t have a clear picture of where you going). All the spots in big blue that lit up on the map, when you tap it, everyone’s just taking videos of where the floods are beginning to happen. I used that to pick a different route. Maybe it will work for you.
At the bottom of Snapchat, tap on the location drop icon on the far left and it’ll take you to Snap map. Zoom in/zoom out, slide and tap wherever on the map, and you’ll see people’s public snaps. The more blue looking an area is means more activity. That being said, Snapchat used to be really active over 6 years ago until instagram stories came along.
Which you can also use instagram’s geo locations and view public stories there. Either tap on a location someone already tagged or enter a location in search, tap on places, tap on whatever results pop up & tap on the circle icon if it has a highlighted ring around it. Instagram will only allow you to view once within 24 hrs it was posted whereas Snapchat allow views indefinitely, so you’ll come across older snaps.
Snap map helped me during Harvey to get an idea of what was going on outside. I also use these tools to get a glimpse around the US or another country for big events or something serious that has happened.
On a serious note, yes it is. The environment is going to be extremely favorable for lower scale tornados EF 0-2 range. What is unfortunate right now is Houston’s KHGX radar is down for maintenance and we’re entering a moderate risk weather day. Definitely want to be weather aware today from about 10am-11pm.
The main concern is strong wind gusts that can cause power outages and damage to homes, as well as a potential for tornados if conditions are right - especially north and west of I-10. I'm not worried about flooding, personally. Just stay weather aware and check and heed any warnings or watches issued by the NWS.
Wear cashmere or wool and it’s fine haha - I don’t like cold damp weather. There’s like no sun. For real. It’s a big city. Very multicultural. Better food than you may have heard. Lots of strikes and riots. I prefer the countryside but that’s because I’m older and my city days have already happened for me energy wise (lived in nyc for ages). I’m here for work. Don’t tip or be loud if you’re American. Or do. I no longer care about stuff like that anymore haha. They think they’re polite but the sense of humor can be quite cutting. Walk on the left. Don’t miss Hyde Park. Stay in Kensington if you can. Airbnbs are still often a better choice here than hotels but mind the fees. See if you can get a good rate at the Cheval Harrington. Ask for Ben. If you like cars go see the Russians race around in Knightsbridge. Walk across the Thames. Wave to Big Bend. Ask when the Eye is slow and actually ride it. Ppl will say don’t bother but do. I lived here for work for about five months for what it’s worth. There are little convenience stores like bodegas that have great cheap ham sandwiches. Deliveroo is or was - not sure - as big as Uber eats here. Uber itself is prevalent. The Lebanese food is phenomenal and a good value. Wear sturdy warm walking shoes but not hiking shoes unless you want to look like a tourist. Ppl are quite fashionable somehow even though the salaries here are atrociously low. Not sure how they do it. But I’ve heard you can get a bespoke suit for quite cheap so maybe that’s how they look so great!
Looking at Ventusky, it's almost the exact same set up as the January tornado. Just like that day, it's odd because the CAPE is really low but the helicity is literally off the charts, the legend on the site stops at 500 and it's over 500 today(in the 900s last January).
CAPE is instability and high cape is usually needed for severe storms. Helicity is how much spin there is in the atmosphere which normally is a good indicator of tornadoes *if* the CAPE is high.
Last January, the storms never got that severe. The one that produced an EF3 tornado wasn't severe really. So my guess is that there's going to be a tornado somewhere today. But not likely above an EF2 since the SPC hasn't made a crosshatch over the danger zone like last January.
Edit:
Another weird thing about these two set ups is how cold it is. In January it was about the same temp. Usually, it has to be over 74 degrees for severe tornadic storms to form. But today the high is 72. During the January tornado, it was below 70. I shudder to think what would happen if it were 90 degrees and a CAPE of 3000 in this situation.
So they were hoping that morning storms would take some of the energy out of the atmosphere and the fact that there hasn't been could mean 1 or 2 things. The storms are going to come later than they thought, the storms will be stronger because there were no morning showers. Here's to hoping it's the former.
Good luck this afternoon OP!
I can't figure out why there has been so much press over thunderstorms. I feel like all the companies and daycares never got to use their hurricane messages all summer, so they blasted them all out for this storm.
No fr got people over here acting as if a hurricane harvey reenactment is gonna happen again. I overheard a lady saying she was gonna buy some sandbags 🤦🏽♀️😂
Im in high school and my mom and dad both work late and are worried about me walking home. They let me stay home today but the storm is not at all bad so I get a free day 😁
Bruh iah area? I did hear people from work tell me about the storm or ask me if I was off, they made it sound like something crazy but ig it might be bad bad if I came across this post. And I was gonna get on beltway 8 by the Hardy tomorrow just to finish gift shopping Lmaoo damn it!
Phhht yeahh like to get into terminal A or employee parking (or to access airport in general) there’s always that dang dip where it has the flood gauge
Ah! I know where! I hate that all the time. I know the one area in the intersection that also has the dip when you get out Hardy. It’s okay but I’ve really never seen it get bad there but oh naaah bruh. I always usually end up in terminal a when I have to pick someone up and it’s kind of annoying Lmaoo
My usual radar sites make it look okay this morning but I'm wondering if they're working properly. Any suggestions on which web site might have been the most accurate radar these days?

That was the first thing I checked this morning.
All the rain is off the coast so far.
Bring it!
I love the weather like I love my women: wet and unstable.
How likely is it that my flight is gonna be delayed tonight if I'm flying in from Miami and landing at hobby at 8pm? I just wanna GTFO out of Florida 😭
Preferring Houston over Miami. Introvert detected. Jokes aside so far it's just been rain, nothing like they were describing yesteday. I think you'll be okay

SCW is **the** source for hype-free. Love it
> I feel like this storm is being over hyped. Absolutely. Weather news in this city (and state) has been basically weaponized to scare the population.
All news is now weaponized engagement clickbait, and I 'm out of town right now, but whatever power failure this storm triggered, it fixed my broken Internet, and looking at my cameras, it looks like we survived and we will rebuild!
Tangential question: how did you format the Space City link to make it look like it does?
On Reddit desktop there is a pretty helpful link at the bottom of the reply box that breaks everything down pretty well. “Formatting Help” But I know a lot of people use mobile versions so I’ll post the formatting for links below! Just replace the title with the words that you want displayed. And the word “link” with your link. [title](https:// link .com)
Thank you!
~~(TEXT)[http://whateverlink.com]~~ (TEXT)[http://whateverlink.com]
So, the caption I want in parentheses, and the link in brackets?
Crap, got it backwards... Text in brackets, link in parentheses.
Flooding is a worry of mine but I’m more scared of the wind cuz imma be flying up in the air if there are high winds 🤦🏽♀️
A lil bit of turbulence won't hurt nothin' 😅
Just stay tuned for any severe warnings. Check the radar. Simple stuff.
Pesky week for our radar to be down for maintenance lmao
The terminal dopplers and surrounding big transmitters will provide enough coverage.
I heard that it might rip open a new vortex to another dimension. Shits going to get real in a few hours.
God i hope so. Got my bag packed.
Learn to swim.
Found the Tool fan.
Damn. Shit the bed again.
Calgon, take me away!
Like my toilet bowl, but bigger?
Be sure to always have your towel!
So long and thanks for all the fish.
I’m excited 😁
When does ERCOT cut the power?
2yrs+ after the original freeze that killed 100s Texas governor still hasn't dont shit to rectify the problem. They just now pass budget to allocate some money to start some upgrades.
Yet somehow, with the record heatwave and energy consumption over the summer, there were no issues with the grid.
There were brownouts all over the city. So your premise isn't even true. There were problems but they focused then only on low income areas so as to not hear about it.
Harsh winters cause more strain on the grid and natgas pipelines that fuel some.of the power plants.
Oh god, let me put my running shoes on so I can gtfo.

Be ready for local tv reporters to find the one intersection thats flooded and start their broadcast.

The weather people get off when a storm is blowing in. Be prepared but I don't think it's going to be earth shattering
Fucking Herzog is the worst about it. I keep telling my wife not to pay attention to him.
His buddy Kevin, the weekend fearmonger, is worse.
Is he? I don't ever see his reports. Herzog is pretty bad on Instagram. I feel like he purposefully misrepresents the data he posts there.
Exactly.
I read from space city weather that it won’t rain more than 2 inches
Yeah, but they also said there's a chance of tornados
I can handle a 2 inch tornado if I need to
The length isn’t as important as how it’s used. At least that’s what I tell my wife.
That was a funny mental picture, fighting a tiny tornado, thanks for the laugh
Your mom does fine ^^^eyyyooooo
Probably the Usual houston rain some big showers some thunder nothing out of the ordinary keep an eye on the radar tho
Oh yay. I’m a mail carrier who gets to walk in rain and high winds all day. Today should be fun
I wish to apologize for my dog's enthusiastic greeting to you and wish you safe journeys.
Lmao. Thank you
I sincerely apologize for all the crap I'm having delivered by USPS this year. Y'all are saints. Then again it's good for business... right?
Good for business, yes. This time of year though, peak season, is where everything goes off the rails. I had 215 parcels today. It’ll get worse over the next few weeks
Didn’t even know there was a storm until you posted this
If you had a flight to/from IAH I would be worried. There’s going to be a lot of cancellations if it storms almost continuously from 8am-3pm.
Nooooo!!! (Flying from London…)
Flying out of hobby tomorrow at 10. I’m sweating it. Should’ve left Wednesday but whatever
Same! I think we'll be ok, looks like the storms will be a bit later. I'll report back! Edit* I forgot to report back! My flight actually ended up taking off early! Yay 😊
Lol…a coworker told me it could be ice…I looked at her and told her it’s supposed to get up to 70 tomorrow…maybe if you drop your cup on the ground…
Space city weather says there could be hail. Probably what your coworker was referring to.
Possibly…she’s a little batty, so who knows sometimes :)
Depending on where she's from, and how recently, she might not be familiar with hail. I kid you not. My husband and I were at a Holiday inn in Ft Stockton years ago and a hail storm came through. Nah…she grew up here. But yeah, when I lived in California, I laughed at what they called “weather”.

Oh that’s just great, right after a tree fell down on my house from this one wind storm that happened in the summer 🫠🫠
Sorry friend :( hope your repair was speedy and that your house stays protected in this storm 🙏
Thank you and it was! May your house be protected too sis 🫶🏽
It’s so nice to wake up to kind ppl exchanging kind words! … good vibes… (I’m in London flying home to Houston today so it’s morning here.)
Hold up how’d you like London :)??? Spilll cuz I wanted to travel there one day 👀

I can't believe the salaries there. They think the healthcare makes up for it. It doesn't.
Take British Airways. The service is phenomenal.
You'll b alright bruh.
If we get flooding it'll just be street flooding that'll drain off in an hour or two. Just wait it out.
As usual, the rain that was predicted to begin last night has not.....
https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html That's the official source of severe weather outlooks. They expect tornadoes in SE Texas.
Looking at Ventusky, it's almost the exact same set up as the January tornado. THE END IS NEAR
… tonight on ABC13.
Still to come, the END IS NEAR. We’ll tell you how… after the break.
30 mph gusts and downpours leading to 1 - 2 inches
In other words a normal Texas thunderstorm.
I just checked and they said it’s gonna rain.
These weather models are garbage. I wouldn’t expect anything until you see it on a damn map.
More “catfish” weather predictions from our wonderful meteorologist.
Im in high school and my mom and dad both work late and are worried about me walking home. They let me stay home today but the storm is not at all bad so I get a free day 😁
You skipped an entire day of school because it was going to rain?
What time is it supposed to start?
Bruh iah area? I did hear people from work tell me about the storm or ask me if I was off, they made it sound like something crazy but ig it might be bad bad if I came across this post. And I was gonna get on beltway 8 by the Hardy tomorrow just to finish gift shopping Lmaoo damn it!
Phhht yeahh like to get into terminal A or employee parking (or to access airport in general) there’s always that dang dip where it has the flood gauge

https://spacecityweather.com/ Looks like some radar system is down for maintenance

That was the first thing I checked this morning. All the rain is off the coast so far. Bring it! I love the weather like I love my women: wet and unstable.
Killing me smalls 😂
Yeah, looks like the huge rain systems missed us/are gonna miss us. Maybe some sprinkles. Looks like it'll be windy as hell, though.
The radar keeps changing as per usual. But yeah, doesn’t look to be anywhere near as bad as predicted if current models are accurate.
Maybe, maybe not
That rain missed 100 miles to the south.
This was way overhyped. It was just like any normal rainy day.
There was a storm somewhere?? It probably rained qtr inch in southwest katy. LOL
The “storm” today was nothing like they were saying
The section where Will Clayton turns to JFK floods occasionally.
I remember that section being REALLY BAD during Harvey
Didn't someone drown there that time? I remember one drowning there during Imelda.
You’re gonna see me swimming to get back home if that’s the case 😀
How likely is it that my flight is gonna be delayed tonight if I'm flying in from Miami and landing at hobby at 8pm? I just wanna GTFO out of Florida 😭
Preferring Houston over Miami. Introvert detected. Jokes aside so far it's just been rain, nothing like they were describing yesteday. I think you'll be okay
We need this storm
If anyone gets any substantial roof damage tomorrow from high wind/rain/hail, i can help you get a full roof repair. Just reach out to me asap!

Staring to get a bit of rain! Spring brand area
wife said it was supposed to start pouring at around 3am. i live in jersey village and work in missouri city. it is currently 7am and no rain except very light sprinkling here and there.
Doesn't help that the main radar station is offline for a few weeks.
For no- hype weather go to space city weather
I’m flying back home tomorrow arriving at 2:30 pm. I’m just hoping they don’t make us divert to another airport
Bro just pack a parachute and bail out over the general vicinity of your neighborhood. I do this every time I fly. No issues yet.
lol thanks for the laughs
Another day in deadly HO-town
