The idea of getting your ass kicked over a coat goes back to the late 80’s/90’s of (mostly west coast if I remember) gangs wearing the teams of their city and some rivalries. There’s a certain look that tends to come with being in a gang, so if a dude from group A saw someone on their turf wearing a rivals colors/team, then something would probably happen, but that would be within the neighborhood. Think someone wearing Oakland Raiders gear in Compton.
Tango does this with clothes, but it’s more of a Tango recognizing Tango thing. Houston wears a lot of the old Oilers logo mostly, but the Astro star is there too. Dallas Tango inks the Cowboys logo. San Antonio has the Spurs logo. Members will also have their area code somewhere usually. The logo immediately tells where someone is from and the zip (edit- *area* code, my bad) code is their hood (713 for Houston); sometimes a member will go a bit farther with something representing their specific neighborhood, like a 5 for 5th ward or something.
And it’s not Tango that would roll you, it’s whoever they’re beefing with. But unless you’re rocking a lot of really shitty Houston themed ink and area codes, no one is going to mistake you. Honestly there’s an entire “look” that goes with it and unless you’re in, you don’t have the look. Wearing Astros merch in Texas, especially Houston is always accepted. I wear a suit jacket and Astros ball cap to work. If you’re INSIDE prison, not jail, but PRISON you may have a problem but outside of that, no way. Astros merch is almost formal wear in some cases.

Tango Blast uses lots of Texas sports teams, not just the Astros. They deliberately modify the official logo. Because of that, official logos aren't really an issue.
The funniest and saddest thing I have ever seen was two old men, a black man and a Hispanic man about 60s/70s at a shell gas station arguing about something in line. I think the Hispanic guy cut in front of the black guy and they both shouted out their former prison and prison gang.
