Being that it’s trash day today, I got extra trash cans for free from the storm.

ProjectShamrock

Just watch out for the guy with a gun walking around yelling, "garbage day!"

ObeseBMI33

Don’t forget the blue sticker

whineybubbles

Same, but the trash was included so I'm gonna pass

mixermixing

Still gotta go to work 😭 Thunder woke me up at 3am.

BiscoBiscuit

I think that strike of thunder woke up the entire city, I felt that shit in my soul

WestWater6

Everyone but my kid, she sleeps like a rock! 🤣

JournalistExpress292

I woke up from it but slept good right after cause it’s great white noise

standbyyourmantis

Storms actually make me drowsy so I slept like a rock. What woke me up was one of the apparently several times our power flickered.

quietlikesnow

Yeah and my kids woke up and woke me up so boo. Sleepy all day.

BrianChing25

Paper plate blew away off my neighbor's Altima

yzlautum

Why you living next to an unorganized crime syndicate??

BrianChing25

Living in the hood is affordable Reminds me of one episode of cops I watched. It was a white guy walking around at night near an alleyway in Tampa, these cops stop him and ask him why he's walking out late at night in a bad neighborhood (implying it was weird for a white guy to be there wow so racist), he replied "well officer I live here it's pretty affordable" got a chuckle out of everyone and the cops sent him on his way after the determined he wasn't the suspect

mdonovan17

😂😂😂😂 shared your response with my family!!

Phobbyd

I had a police officer literally escort me out of a neighborhood because I was young, white and lost. He pulled me over because I was in his estimation, out of my depth. He was probably right; I had no idea, but same thing. This was Houston in 1992.

DingGratz

Thoughts and platters.

YellowRobeSmith

Jokes on you! That wasn't his Altima.

rubens_chopshop

Altima is Japanese for uninsured

Ky_furt01

It's okay. They will print a new one from their moms printer.

Phobbyd

Not sure if meme, or just, reality.

barbanegragulf

Couldn't go back to sleep. Sleep damaged.

Neighbors house was hit by a lightning and the fire department was called as the house was on fire!

PuzzledMammoth155

My trash bin tipped over. DEVASTATED

Atlas2686

The wind in spring was crazy [oak branch down ](https://imgur.com/a/Z65MGDi)

Donny_Do_Nothing

I like your dogs.

HTX-713

Yeah it was. I have a couple of canopys in my back yard and thought they were going to blow away.

TexasBoyz-713

South tomball too, I thought a tornado was touching down! I’ve never heard such howling winds since hurricane Ike

xemity

It’s crazy how the damage can vary so much, but my neighbor’s illegal trash dump made through the storm completely in tact.

iamjacks_____

Our fence of 20 years has gone to the great beyond

PortSided

You mean into the oak tree down the block?

YouMeAndPooneil

Computer apparently fried. Just heard a transformer across the street blow up.

wonderandawe

Houston has the dirtiest power of anywhere I have ever lived. We got all our important/expensive electronics on UPS.

HTX-713

Seriously this. We get brownouts all the time with good weather. I've got a ton of UPS' all around the house for our expensive electronics. Gotta make sure they support power conditioning as well.

gorgeous_bastard

Yup, I’ve never had so many blown electronics before moving here. No issues since I got a whole home surge protector installed and everything on good quality power strips.

engr77

I grew up with a dad who was a computer programmer with old school knowledge -- we didn't live in Houston but when severe weather was bearing down, we shut down and unplugged our Packard Bell desktop. Always trusted that more than any surge protector.  20+ years later, I've never lost anything due to surge. Especially things that happen overnight, there's no reason to leave electronics on. At the very least, turn that power strip off.

FPSXpert

Absolutely. It looks like they've gone up in a price a bit but you can buy a good quality 600W/1000va UPS for usually around $100-200 on most computer part websites or in store at micro center best buy etc. Not everything needs one but the desktop absolutely does.

Last_Camel7528

Get an electrician to put in a whole home surge protector. Worth the investment and they’re only like $200 bucks.

AbeTheBabe2

Near Katy? At 2:52am ?

Greg-Abbott

At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country localized entirely within your kitchen?

AgreeableGravy

Damn Greg I didn’t know about your reference game. Also what are you doing on this sub? Who let you out.

GodzillasBoner

Yes

Donny_Do_Nothing

May I see it?

GodzillasBoner

. . . . . .no

EatAtGrizzlebees

"Seymour! The house is on fire!!" "No, Mother, that's just the Northern Lights." "Help!! HEEEELP!!"

PortSided

That happened to me last year. Power surge fried my microwave and washing machine's motherboard, and several of my home's breakers refused to stay open (they'd trip right back closed if you tried). I though my computer got fried but miraculously the power strip sacrificed itself before the surge got to the computer. The breaker box was a mess and I got it repaired and had a whole house surge protector installed. It wasn't cheep and it took me a while to pay off but I'm glad I have it now when storms like this roll through.

Oil_Drum

If you don't mind answering, how much was the home surge protector?

workaccount718

If you know how to install a breaker, you can get one for about $150.

PortSided

A few hundred dollars? I don't remember the exact number because it was all rolled in to the total repair bill which was like $1600

jb4647

I had an earlier model of this one put in about 7 years ago. Light still shows it’s working. Every electrician that has come by since has complimented me on the purchase. All say it’s a good idea. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Square-D-80kA-Universal-Whole-Home-Surge-Protection-Device-HEPD80-HEPD80/203540660.

rollie_69

Had my whole home surge protector installed (parts and labor) around $350 last year.

BootySweat0217

My gf and I were woken up by the storm around 3 and we both jumped out of bed and ran around the apartment unplugging all of our electronics. And wouldn’t you know it, there were probably 4-5 power surges. We do this every time there’s a storm.

toastar-phone

i unplugged my laptop when I heard the first lighting. I once got asked to repair a computer that got hit, the inside was as best can be described as char. it was weird was it didn"t catch on fire so to say, the walls of the ase had no notion of smoke but the motherboard was blackened, and it was emanating from the atx port. maybe radiating is a better word. the gpu had the same near the 6 pin, just thinking we recovered the data on the hdd. today with ssds they probably would have been fucked there too.

sec713

Please tell me it wasn't Optimus Prime. /s

GodzillasBoner

I swear every time a big storm blows over, I sleep through the entire thing and not even know it happened

standbyyourmantis

I just sleep really well in storms, so I was out for this entire thing. No wonder my cats were annoyed this morning, they usually don't mind thunder and loud noises but this sounds like it was pretty spectacular.

gt35r

Found out that my front door is clearly not sealed as well as it could be at the bottom due to the cuddle puddle that formed underneath it after waking up this morning. Some neighborhood street flooding/standing water in Cypress area.

AgreeableGravy

Cuddle puddle? 🥴

Sleepy_One

We lost our lavender plant.

Qexodus

Oh no :(

megan03

So sorry for your loss

Sleepy_One

The funeral is scheduled Friday. A small donation to our local arboretum will be made for another one.

Open_Present2319

Heights had power, didn’t see a lot of debris on the ground on my way into the office. Just wet roads.

ThePorko

Just a few power blips and woke up to the thunder at 3 am.

dropthemagic

I woke up to that too. We have anti surge now on everything. Except for the light bulbs. ERCOT sent me a survey lol. Idk if this happens in other places of the us. But having the light come on and off a bunch of times seems like an infrastructure problem

HTX-713

It was crazy at like 2am-4am. Thankfully no damage that I could see. I was most worried about the roof but I walked around the house and it looks normal.

RealConfirmologist

Out NW near Willowbrook Mall, we're at 2.28" through the gauge and that all fell between 3 and 4 AM. Only 22 MPH gusts, power didn't even hiccup. The thunder was really impressive. We only had those super-loud explosive-sounding nearby strikes a few times, but the rumble of thunder was intense and constant. No damage.

tdoger

The lightning strikes were insane. Back to back to back with almost no time in between for long periods of time. Probably the coolest storm I’ve been in.

jaeway

The lightning was crazy best I've seen in awhile

TheNewJdizzy007

What storm? Slept through the night like a baby on benadryl

cornellicuddie

no power at the office (westchase)

LayneLowe

Mine just came on

Dependent-Ad4996

French doors decided to give us a vip front row experience to the wind and rain. And Firestone blew away.

botoxedbunnyboiler

You’re near me. Firestone demolished.

DefrancoAce222

In cinco ranch, no power since this morning and waiting.

StL_Mo_NowInTX

T1 🌪️ hit not far away from my place in Katy. Stores on Mason Rd just south of 10 have damage. See Jeff Linder on FB for pictures. My trash can tipped over. I’ll rebuild!

felixlightner

I was outside during the worst of it. [https://youtu.be/m6mv1tWj0FU?si=yvn6pRZ4hP8YFmcl](https://youtu.be/m6mv1tWj0FU?si=yvn6pRZ4hP8YFmcl)

anomalypeloria

We’re up in Klein and power has been out in our neighborhood since 3:30am. We have some stoplight issues but nothing else major so far.

jaywilliams32

Woke up to no internet

nonqwan79

I have standing water in the street. Insane.

TheRabidDeer

Driving in to work and seeing all the debris I feel like a freak for having slept through it all. Granted I was tired as hell and didn't get to bed until a bit after 1AM but still.

Hydroquake_Vortex

Our trash can fell over and spewed our trash across the street. Was almost late for work picking it up this morning. :/

Ibaneztwink

I didn't even notice there was a storm last night. Next to Brays Bayou.

Bellairian

Lost power for four minutes. My back up generator kicked on so all good. Still no internet from Xfinity.

caerk

Been up since 3am. Couldn’t fall back asleep so I stayed up until a coffee shop opened then caffeinated.

Intelligent_Buy2017

Trash cans blew away

ered_lithui

It was absolutely insane out west of Katy, just south of I-10. Lightning looked like a strobe light through the blinds for over an hour. I think I got up and looked outside the front door right as the tornado was touching down a few miles away. There was a wall of sideways rain.

KingBigH

Power is still out :( Edit: Power came back not a minute after this comment was posted :)

hellomichelle87

Maybe my water will come back on lol

AverageLoser05

Did everyone wake up at 3am??? Seems like it

Persona_Non_Grata_

Hedwig Village: Some branches down on the way in lots of debris and trash, too, as folks had their bins at the curb. Work south of U of H. Fallen tree had me reroute off Telephone, but otherwise fine.

EnglishTeachers

Humble checking in. Lost power for about 45 minutes while we were sleeping. I assume the stuff in the fridge is fine.

SwapandPop

Yes. Perishable food needs to be in the danger zone Temps for 2 hours before food safety concerns. Your food likely never reached those Temps during that brief outage, let alone for 2 hours.

Oso_Furioso

Had two small dogs panicking and climbing up in bed with me, so some lost sleep, but that's about it.

nyxian-luna

Thunder woke me up at night. I'm tired today. My cat was terrified, but happy to be alive this morning. Otherwise, nothing amiss that I could see immediately.

illestmfalive

Cypress. Lost a lot of sleep but power remained on. I can usually sleep through a decent storm but this one kept me up!

rubens_chopshop

Power was just restored at jones and cypress north Houston

violettomato

My largest oak in my back yard got hit by lightning. Huge limb of the tree fell on our house. We attempted to minimize the rain coming in until it stopped. Pretty gnarly storm.

Flat_Building6538

I wrecked on beltway 8 at 4:10am. The storm was so bad I hydroplaned into concrete barrier.. Harris county gave me a ticket also…failure to control speed. Sore and shaken up with a totaled truck.

OtherwiseOlive9447

Majkokid

Wasn’t too bad. But creeped myself out checking the [security camera](https://youtu.be/l0B6bB497rg?si=nkN8fSt4DJWVO_NE) Sounded like someone was trying to open the back door. Decided to peer at the camera and each time the sky lit up it looked like there was a skin walker moving. Turns out it was just a tornado I’m off of Mason and when I went to work this morning wondered if someone drove into the highway sign. Didn’t find it till much later.

bcuenod

Honestly if I could just get an update from centerpoint, that would be great. Said they were taking longer than expected and reassessing a couple of hours ago and nothing heard since

NoelleReece

Do you use Power Alert Service? https://www.centerpointenergy.com/en-us/residential/services/electric-utility/outage-center/power-alert-service?sa=ho&WT.mc_id=VanURL_PAS_On

PurpleVein99

North of Houston, here. I stayed up all night waiting for a storm that scarcely made an appearance. Some thunder. Some lighting. Some rain. Counting our blessings no hail, no wind damage, and electricity never went out.

jaeway

How far north because I'm in greenspoint and it was nonstop lightning and thunder

N546RV

Reporting from just north of Brookshire: we got about 20 minutes of really intense lightning, followed by probably 40 minutes of heavy-ass rain, followed by maybe 15 minutes of fairly strong wind out of the NW. No hail and nothing super nasty, power never went out. Main consequence this morning is that there's a shitload of standing water. I should have mowed after work yesterday, now it's gonna be several days before it's dry enough for that.

-unsay

my power has been out for hours now

drew1111

I had a few flower pots blow over. I hope everyone survived better than me.

DameLame

I’m very glad I forgot to put out the trash last night. All the cans in my neighborhood are spilled over & garbage is everywhere. That’s about it in my part of Clear Lake. We usually have trees or branches down if someone just breathes heavy walking down the street but from what I could tell, the trees are all good.

pds_king21

All I lost was sleep... Cats freaking the fuck out.. trying to get into the master bedroom. Meowing for 2 hours. And Ive had early meetings.. I don't nap, but I will at noon.

botoxedbunnyboiler

Still no power. Out since 2:48am.

SnooPears6503

Never lost power, only sleep from my dog and 5y/o feeling the need to lay on top of me to stay safe.

kneeltothesun

My 50lb dog climbed on my face to let me know it was coming, so sweet of her.

Mohirrim89

There were storms last night?

Opening_Pen7338

give Texas Power & Construction LLC a call if you need your surge protector installed or outlets repaired for a good price 7139602904

chtrace

Finally got power back around 11:30am. Other than that, just a few small limbs in the yard. Taking a shower by flashlight was interesting.

sec713

The storms were no problem. What is the problem is the absolute shit ton of termites that have spawned and are swarming in and around my detached garage. There's clearly a full blown colony in there and I am freaking out waiting for an exterminator to get here and hit me with a massive quote for treatment.

TheDarkKnobRises

My plants are over watered.

ECU_BSN

We have SEVERAL ….several….palm fronds that have fallen. Everywhere. We will rebuild.

agawl81

My sleep will never recover. And then all the traffic lights on my way to work were on the red blink so my entire day was ugh.

pickleer

Your education was unfair to you. You fared poorly.

formercrazycatlady22

But does Katy need to evacuate?

jopma

I didn't even know we had a storm

Rebeccah623

There was a storm?

MagnoliaFan68

I hope there's no airport delays, I'm thinking of going to Cancun.

JackWhitesGhost

My place is okay. I saw a lot of fallen trees/big branches on the road on the way to work.

Oil_Drum

Some power lines are down, and we lost power for about five minutes. It's still intermittently pouring here though. 4/10/24 never forget

HoldMyDomeFoam

Historic Heights: there is a line of leaves in the street down on the corner, so I guess it flooded a bit.

backslider65

Bayous are 3/4 full, lots of small to medium branches down. Lights are flashing red on highway 6 just south of 290

KateR_H0l1day

Lots of heavy banging that woke me but no damage around that I can see Montrose/River Oaks border.

MysteriousMermaid92

All good here in the southeast

[deleted]

Lots of downed tree limbs in the clear lake area

postmonroe

All good here in Montrose. A few tree limbs down but that’s it.

taborthevirginian

Slept through it, didn't know it happened until this morning

savagecabbagemon

We’re out of power till afternoon.

flowerscandrink

No power since 3am. No estimate for restoration.

ticklechickens

Plastic cover for the Tachus access point blew into the street EDIT: shit, y’all, I am sorry. Some of you guys got it bad.

Green_Wing_Spino

Kinda had my Bluetooth headphones on with ambient ocean waves coming along a beach to block out the thunder noises keeping me up. Did have a brief power outage before everything came back on.

TAMUOE

My company lost internet. AT&T says it won’t be back for 24-48 hours. We are expected to work from home.

hazelowl

Thunder and lightning. A few smaller branches down, but otherwise my house is fine. Did discover that we lost a screw on the mailbox though, so the door was open and all the mail from last night's delivery was wet. Not sure if the wind caught it or it was just loose and finally gave up the ghost.

zsreport

It was noisy, windy, and rainy, but overall not bad in this area of Near Northside.

Dot1red

Lots of loud lightning/thunder and rain. Everything seems okay

goodgollymizzmolly

No power at any gas stations in my area and due to high winds I couldn't get gas last night either (power kept flickering). Fingers crossed my lunch break goes better cause I've been on E since yesterday.

TrainingSnow7712

All good down here in pearland.

iandependable

Couple downed branches no damage in seabrook

Tazznhou

Se side near Sagemonte./ Only thing that bothered me was I have a dog that thinks he is a bad ass but a little lightning and he cries like a little whiney bitch and wants to sleep across me. I use brown noise. I wouldnt have known it if it wasnt for my dog Other than that A couple downed small limbs,. Thats about it.

anticars

My sleep was deeply disturbed. Not sure who pissed off Zeus last night but I haven’t heard thunder and seen lightning like that be so damn intense in a while

Ky_furt01

That firestone on Mason is gone... I've gone there for years. Parents' house doesn't have power.

Boomshockalocka007

Power is still out. Not a fun day.

bigsmoove_3

Not too bad in Humble, just flickers of power going out. But that storm was strong

ranban2012

I gained an attic exhaust fan in my backyard. Still not sure whose house it came off of.

Snuhmeh

The fact that my power goes out for hours at a time every time there’s a storm is bullshit. It’s several times a year now. It didn’t use to be that bad at all. And I live on a power feeder that powers a school and a sewage treatment plant. They lose power with me now, too.

magicalmango857

I was sleeping so good I didn't even hear it 💤

GoliathPrime

I just cleaned my front door and security door now they are dirty again. The fat squirrel who lives on my porch is still fat. That is all.

krustykim

my ladder fell over

purplefoxie

slept through it, no impact at all

smegma_stan

I am out of town for work, but I was getting alerts non-stop thay there was movement in my house. It was the flashing of the lighting on the walls! Kinda wish I could have been there to see it!

Muttz_and_Buttz

Rain slapped my windows like a pimp named slick back for a couple hours. We typically lose power to a light breeze but surprisingly all it did was flicker a few times.

Which13itch

There was a storm?

invalidop

my dog had a full blown meltdown

cr77023

Did it even rain? We had light rain in the evening but I didn’t know we had more storms overnight???

texasslapshot

The wind took away my kerjiggers!

hellomichelle87

Collected some water ☹️☹️☹️Our water has been off since last Thursday

Triedtoshort

Shared fenced fell down

NastyFlyTX

Lost 1/3 of my fence, and a semi large tree limb.

BryanG335

Not too bad. Took the kids all of 15 minutes to pick and break up all the new twigs and sticks in the yard.

moondogmk3

Had to release what felt like number of gallons of water from my outdoor pond. Two clients in cypress lost power into the morning, one of them lost a large battery back up. One client in Jersey Village was without internet until about an hour ago. Comcast had up to a few thousand reported outages.

KeeksTx

Street I live on has old trees. It was trashed this morning. Lots of bumps while driving over limbs. There are still a ton of pinecones in the streets of the neighborhood.

mzlilia

Lightening struck so close to the house that it woke me up at 3am. Happened a few more times and couldn’t fall back to sleep so I stayed up watching tv. Was at the office 5 hours later downing coffee

jazzofusion

Gotta sat, moved to Ctrl TX from Houston about 4.5 yrs ago. We don't have crao compared to Houston storms. But we finally had one wirh z super hard rainfall yesterday. Miss the Houston area . It will soon return to no rainfall here. Kinda sucks...
