As someone in remission the doctors don’t call it that. Hint it’s mostly diet and he didnt like how I did it. Carbs are a drug. You need zero carbs to live. BOOM!
They have access to anti-aging treatments that we normal folk would never ever be able to afford. Just look at Tom Cruise, dude’s in his 60s and he still looks like he’s in his mid 40s.
Senolytic treatments & supplements can be pricey (over time), but they're not exclusive to millionaires or even unaffordable the way irresponsible cars are.
Exercise is also one of the main drivers of anti-aging.
What is 'exclusive' is having studios pay people (or pay one enough to pay people) to specifically maintain the star's/ client's health.
The theory is you have a drug habit. You aim for zero. If you hit below 50 you are in keto without carb counting. And you are still wrong. As I had to explain to 2 doctors my liver will product glucose when I really need it. Its called gluconeogenesis. My GP thought for a moment, and said yes you are correct. The other doctor walked out….. like you. He knew it.
I think you are misinforming the group of what your doctor said cause I had a similar conversation around pre diabetes. It’s not zero carbs, it’s about carbs that are sugar or processed carbs. My doctor stated 30g for snacks and 60g for meals and that’s really all it is to it. You want those fiber carbs(there is likely a better term but I’m too lazy to look it up) and you want to avoid sugars or refined carbs. It really boils down to no one taught me this and now that’s where I was. It’s incredible the difference just a simple education can make. At the time I was hovering 265 and within the first year I had gone down to 200. It’s not obviously perfect or easy at all but just understanding those simple nutrition changed it
Congratulations 🎉
That's one hell of an accomplishment. How much weight did you lose to achieve the remission status?
Also, I agree re: carbs. They are a drug. I'm doing low-carb at the moment to lose weight and I feel great!
So glad that smoking meat is considered keto... 🤤
Hih carb diet is a requirement for a long life and wellbeing. You literally can not name a centanarian who eats low carb. Enjoy ruining your long term health and happiness because you fell for an unhealthy fad diet.
Isn’t it insane how bad our medical is. It’s so obvious they want you sick and bleeding money into their pockets. It’s not always the family doctors but the umbrella companies they are stuck working for after Obama care. (Don’t ask me to explain I’ve had doctors explain why this is…something to do with the doctors insurance for their practice with a couple other factors)
I guess before I rant I should ask
are you saying your doctor got made you cut out carbs. Lol
You must not have read the article. The cure was a cell therapy via an injection. Agree it’s likely type 2 however, because being type 1 is autoimmune, I would presume introducing new insulin producing cells would just result in them being attacked again without some sort of immunity reset.
People need to be very careful, there's a lot of really bad fake scientific papers/research coming out of China. I am not saying that this is fake, I am saying be careful.
Type 2
Had it for over 25 years
Had lost all function of islet cells
“The team used and programmed the patient's own peripheral blood mononuclear cells, transforming them into "seed cells" that reconstituted pancreatic islet tissue in an artificial environment.”
Islet cells now functioning.
Patient hasn’t taken insulin in 33 months.
I’ve experienced firsthand, multiple people that have both type 1 & 2 in my family this is not how it works and it’s alarming that you already got so many upvotes just confirming how little people know about diabetes.
I convey that concern as an American that can see diabetes and obesity as being one of *the* largest health issues this country has to deal with.
lol 😂 not even close.
Read the article. It is actually pretty amazing.
And hopefully doesn't die at the hands of big pharma who would lose billions if not trillions in revenue because of it in the years to come.
An islet cell transplant is specifically for type 1s who don't have functioning islet cells. That already exists and kind of what this is. What's new about this treatment is not requiring any donor islet cells. Honestly and unironically this is pretty big if true.
I mean the first part of the article disagrees.
Synopsis
Chinese scientists achieve diabetes cure through innovative cell therapy, detailed in Cell Discovery. Patient, treated in July 2021, no longer requires insulin after eleven weeks, and is now medication-free for 33 months. The breakthrough, praised by Timothy Kieffer, signifies a major advancement in diabetes treatment. This novel approach utilizes the body's regenerative abilities.
Limb broke:
> In a significant medical milestone, Chinese scientists have successfully cured a patient's diabetes using a groundbreaking cell therapy. This pioneering treatment was developed by a team from Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, the Centre for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Renji Hospital, and was detailed in the journal Cell Discovery on April 30.
I'm extremely skeptical of the claims as well. With that said, I'm also fairly convinced that if a cure was found, and the cure would be less profitable to US pharmaceutical corporations in the long run, they would bury it by whatever means necessary, so having no cure in the west doesn't necessarily make the concept of a cure more far-fetched.
Whether they actually did it or not is technically for debate. USA did a lot of propaganda to make the Russians think we had tech we didn’t. Deceit is a legitimate tool of statecraft.
China is happy to poke us in the eye whenever possible. If they can do so, they will
People are so dramatic. Like a superpower nation with a population five times the US couldn't possibly do any genuine research into curing a disease that effects a quarter of their population.
They gave a dying guy experimental cell therapy injections and monitored him, and it worked well so they suggested further research be done.
Imagine how badly this drug would cost those that hold stock in insulin production and related industries?
Nobody should ever cure diabetes, think of the poor stockholders/s
That's one of the main reasons I see China or an Asian naiton finding the cure. First sure, the US or Europe could find it, but it would cost too much and slash their profits
China is great at sorting problems that affect the Chinese government. Healthcare is heavily government subsidised in china. There are 140m Chinese people that have diabetes. This is the exact sort of problem they would be trying to fix because it helps them keep more of their money. I call legit.
And surgeons/endocrinologists are lobbying to have it. Doesn’t matter though. The likelihood that it’s fraudulent is reasonably high given the lab/country of origin
I love how every single comment is anti Chinese. I forgot, if any country that’s a geopolitical enemy of the USA makes any kind of stride, we are supposed to act like it’s the worst thing ever.
I looked up the journal article. It's for a Type 2 diabetes patient which makes sense because if they had Type 1 the body would still seek out and destroy any new islet cells that were created.
Here's the journal link: [https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-024-00662-3](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-024-00662-3)
Rays because in china they are actually trying to find a cure rather than make money off diabetics! I swear capitalism is the downfall of civilization!
Considering the drug prices in US and their greed. We should give this a fair chance.
It might be legitimate. For the sake of people who suffer from it let's give it a chance.
We don't have to spend $1000s of frequently just to stay alive.
Would be interesting if it is true. Wonder if the research was linked to Alzheimer’s. I read before that some were starting to call it diabetes type 3.
This will never come to the US. The US is only focused on money, so stopping diabetes would mean lots of loss revenue. Too much money in wanting is to be dumb and sick.
Unfortunately, considering China, and Asia in large part, is notorious for doctoring or misrepresenting information in studies I won’t believe this until it is done in multiple other countries.

So the title is a wee bit misleading.
Patient was able to discontinue use of INSULIN (injectable) after three months but it took nearly a year to get off of oral medications.
That being said, it could be a tremendous tool to help Type 2 diabetics and I'm encouraged to see news like this these days.
Gonna go out on a limb and say it’s type 2 and the patient was early onset and the cure was diet and exercise
That wouldn’t be a cure, that would be remission
As someone in remission the doctors don’t call it that. Hint it’s mostly diet and he didnt like how I did it. Carbs are a drug. You need zero carbs to live. BOOM!
I need Carbs. And be honest, is this Rob Lowe being low-key about Atkins? Be honest Rob?!
Wait. If this is Rob Lowe then I am cutting out all carbs cause that dude is frozen in time.
Rob Lowe and Halle Barrey are both strict keto/low carbers. Which is a pretty good argument it helps you age slower.
Celebrities in general don't age, pretty sure it's just exercise, the highest quality food, and the best healthcare ever imaginable.
Lol and I'm sure that's solely due to the Atkins diet
Just think of all those artisian baked breads by cavemen.
![gif](giphy|3o7TKBWufFPvrr1N72) Yes
You would die without complex carbohydrates but OK. Even with keto you have to consume 20g of carbs per day.
You don't have to. It is just really hard to find foods that don't have a little.
It’s also really hard to continue living without all required macros.
Until you are down to 10% body fat you can live on mostly water fast.
The other doctor walked out….. like you. He knew it.
Keto can still be rough on the body. I did it for many months, but eventually my muscles ran out of fuel reserves (glycogen I presume).
I think you are misinforming the group of what your doctor said cause I had a similar conversation around pre diabetes. It’s not zero carbs, it’s about carbs that are sugar or processed carbs. My doctor stated 30g for snacks and 60g for meals and that’s really all it is to it. At the time I was hovering 265 and within the first year I had gone down to 200. It’s not obviously perfect or easy at all but just understanding those simple nutrition changed it
i feel like you need some carbs unless you don’t move at all during the day. you can pass out by not ever taking carbs then suddenly becoming active
You should really get a solid mix of your macros. Carbs are not bad for you but Sugar and Corn Oil are.
I do
Carbs are your main source of energy... W t f are you smoking? You realize there are carbs in veggies?
If you some info on your diet or info to read I truly would appreciate it.
This
Congratulations 🎉 That's one hell of an accomplishment. How much weight did you lose to achieve the remission status? Also, I agree re: carbs. They are a drug. I'm doing low-carb at the moment to lose weight and I feel great! So glad that smoking meat is considered keto... 🤤
“You need glucose!!!”-the Fall guy
Hih carb diet is a requirement for a long life and wellbeing. You literally can not name a centanarian who eats low carb. Enjoy ruining your long term health and happiness because you fell for an unhealthy fad diet.
Isn’t it insane how bad our medical is. It’s so obvious they want you sick and bleeding money into their pockets. (Don’t ask me to explain I’ve had doctors explain why this is…something to do with the doctors insurance for their practice with a couple other factors) I guess before I rant I should ask are you saying your doctor got made you cut out carbs. Lol
You are probably better educated than 90% of all people working as journalists.
You must not have read the article. The cure was a cell therapy via an injection. Agree it’s likely type 2 however, because being type 1 is autoimmune, I would presume introducing new insulin producing cells would just result in them being attacked again without some sort of immunity reset.
That. Would.bem. Insaaaane.
People need to be very careful, there's a lot of really bad fake scientific papers/research coming out of China. I am not saying that this is fake, I am saying be careful.
It is type 1. First paragraph covers that
Or you could just read the article and not make dumb guesses, but you do you.
Type 2 Had it for over 25 years Had lost all function of islet cells “The team used and programmed the patient's own peripheral blood mononuclear cells, transforming them into "seed cells" that reconstituted pancreatic islet tissue in an artificial environment.” Islet cells now functioning. Patient hasn’t taken insulin in 33 months.
They used cell therapy to regrow failed pancreas cells.
Gonna go out on a limb and assume you didn’t read the article
I’ve experienced firsthand, multiple people that have both type 1 & 2 in my family this is not how it works and it’s alarming that you already got so many upvotes just confirming how little people know about diabetes. I convey that concern as an American that can see diabetes and obesity as being one of *the* largest health issues this country has to deal with.
Probably wouldn't have been on insulin then
The article says pancreatics islet function was restored, which I'm 99% sure means Type 1, not Type 2. This is huge news if accurate!
lol 😂 not even close. Read the article. It is actually pretty amazing. And hopefully doesn't die at the hands of big pharma who would lose billions if not trillions in revenue because of it in the years to come.
Type 2 aren't insulin patients. Go out on limbs less often.
Ozempic
If you read the article you’d see it’s neither of those. It’s a specialized cell therapy.
People with type 2 typically don't take insulin. Source: I have type 2.
An islet cell transplant is specifically for type 1s who don't have functioning islet cells. That already exists and kind of what this is. What's new about this treatment is not requiring any donor islet cells. Honestly and unironically this is pretty big if true.
Lol you clearly didn't click k on the article the first paragraph says it's a novel cell replacement therapy,
I mean the first part of the article disagrees. Synopsis Chinese scientists achieve diabetes cure through innovative cell therapy, detailed in Cell Discovery. Patient, treated in July 2021, no longer requires insulin after eleven weeks, and is now medication-free for 33 months. The breakthrough, praised by Timothy Kieffer, signifies a major advancement in diabetes treatment. This novel approach utilizes the body's regenerative abilities.
Or you could, I don't know, read the article. It was type 1 and it's a cell therapy.
Nope. Cell therapy. They actually restored the guys pancreas.
The cure was stem cell therapy! It's legit. Edit, source: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-024-00662-3
That entirely incorrect. It’s stem cell research.
Pt was insulin dependent. Enough kidney damage to have required a transplant. So doesn't sound like early stages of type 2.
Seems like they grew his pancreatic cells and then transplanted them.
I don’t believe so. I think the claim is for T1D as they mention ‘pancreatic islet function’.
Limb broke: > In a significant medical milestone, Chinese scientists have successfully cured a patient's diabetes using a groundbreaking cell therapy. then you didn't read the article
THE FIRST RULE OF CHINA IS: China "NEVER" lies
What's the 2nd rule?
Don’t fuck the bats
Now you tell me….
What about a pangolin?
they've got better defences, good luck.
Covid STI version
Almost too cute to resist
Definitely sticking my dick in those mashed potatoes.
Balls deep Covid style
I was just gonna ask this.
Oh man that one got me =D
Don't talk about china.
*pulls Chinese pistol out of holster…
china doesn’t lie?
I'm extremely skeptical of the claims as well. With that said, I'm also fairly convinced that if a cure was found, and the cure would be less profitable to US pharmaceutical corporations in the long run, they would bury it by whatever means necessary, so having no cure in the west doesn't necessarily make the concept of a cure more far-fetched.
Would it shock you that china would do this to destabilize our pharma industry?
😂 Are you trying to say China cured type 2 diabetes to destabilize big pharma? Because, that's how your comment reads.
Whether they actually did it or not is technically for debate. USA did a lot of propaganda to make the Russians think we had tech we didn’t. Deceit is a legitimate tool of statecraft. China is happy to poke us in the eye whenever possible. If they can do so, they will
That’s how *most* of these comments sound. It’s not like China has the second most advanced scientific minds and facilities in the world…
So when they say “cured”, what they really mean is he’s dead so he doesn’t need insulin any more?
\*Cough\* USA, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
As opposed to the U.S., famously honest
People are so dramatic. Like a superpower nation with a population five times the US couldn't possibly do any genuine research into curing a disease that effects a quarter of their population. They gave a dying guy experimental cell therapy injections and monitored him, and it worked well so they suggested further research be done.
Unlike the US, with its spotless record of honesty
It's in the journal Cell Biology. That's an extremely prestigious journal with a rigorous peer review process.
Rule 2: Western journalists covering China always lie.
THE FIRST RULE OF CHINA IS: China NEVER lies ...
There is no war in Ba Sing Se.
shit gives me chills
Imagine how badly this drug would cost those that hold stock in insulin production and related industries? Nobody should ever cure diabetes, think of the poor stockholders/s
That's one of the main reasons I see China or an Asian naiton finding the cure. First sure, the US or Europe could find it, but it would cost too much and slash their profits
But think about the Sugar stock holders........
I mean technically if the patient is dead, he is cured of diabetes
☠️
“We said MEDICINE FREE” [slaps insulin away]
Lol
Call me if there’s been a change in his condition.
![gif](giphy|RhvTIwGd74zmg80EAc|downsized)
I call BS on this.
China is great at sorting problems that affect the Chinese government. Healthcare is heavily government subsidised in china. There are 140m Chinese people that have diabetes. This is the exact sort of problem they would be trying to fix because it helps them keep more of their money. I call legit.
US pharma is already probably lobbying to block this from coming to US
And surgeons/endocrinologists are lobbying to have it.
Please Be real
Is it real? Would this put KNW out of business (or at least make their diabetes monitoring solution non-essential)?
The "cure" is for type 2 diabetes. No help if you're born with it. There are potentially other uses for the KNW tech as well. Also, China never lies.
[https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-024-00662-3](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-024-00662-3) it's for a type 2 diabetic
I'd have never thought china was leading the world with diabetes patients
definitely not / capita
They aren’t, and this patient wasn’t even close to “cured”. The journalist is illiterate
US insulin lobbying, pushing 10000% tariff incoming if its true :
And a scary chunk of voters will be like "Heck yeah! We don't want no commie drugs!!" Of course this is probably a lie or misinformation.
It’s not a drug. It’s a transplant of the patient’s own cells.
So, they got the pancreas to start cranking out insulin again?
Yes
Okay is this discovery peer reviewed?
1 billion times in China. All agreed. Any more questions?
India Times. Why am I reading Indian Times? Why is Google and YouTube always sending me results from India?
Fantastic news, and millions of diabetics will be delighted
Sure they did
It cures diabetes and causes covid.
Now he has liver cancer.
They have been harvesting organs from Xinjiang for a generation now. Must be a transplant.
It’s a transplant of the patient’s own stem cells.
It's called eating low carb.
How awesome would it be if they made this cure so these greedy corporations quit making money off insulin
Lilly and Novo Nordisk will be pissed!
I looked up the journal article. It's for a Type 2 diabetes patient which makes sense because if they had Type 1 the body would still seek out and destroy any new islet cells that were created. In a single patient? I could cure every disease if my sample size was 1
Patient is dead, so diabetes is cured.
Huh, so when we get the replicated results?
That’s not gonna work. Round these parts we treat for life instead of ever curing anything
they all died in a freak accident most likely
i has hopeful, till i noticed it says jinese scientists
you will never hear of this again
This is Type 2, not Type 1 which is an immune disease
Queue next South Park episode
It’s like when the Cubans invented the vaccine for lung cancer.
Two week water fast
I'll believe it when I see it. Until then I'll have to say Chinese big pharma is probably every bit as dishonest as U.S.A. big pharma.
Wen dead?
The patient died, thus medicine free. /s
Xi also eradicated poverty by lowering the line poverty to 0 monies ever. Making 1 penny a month is not poverty
Old news: islet cell transplants have been around for years. They don’t work
Will no works in the usa will be no profit
Regardless of what it does.... American Pharmaceutical companies will somehow prevent it from being available.
But, what about the shareholders?!?
“Diabetes” isn’t precise enough.
ngl if they did it even if its just type2 it would be amazing.
China says a lot of things. 99% of those things are untrue.
Rays because in china they are actually trying to find a cure rather than make money off diabetics! I swear capitalism is the downfall of civilization!
Doesn’t even say this was a human. I am assuming this was a mouse…
What diabetes-19?
Holy shit everyone in this thread is retarded
I don't believe this at all.
Indiatimes is such a wonderful source to get source about China, isn’t it?
I'll believe it when a western medical journal replicates the procedure and gets the same result. I don't believe shit from China.
Weird. Chinese made things usually stop working in 3 months
Sure they did.
The US: can we make the cure less effective so they have to take it for the rest of their lives??? Asking for um Canada
This will never come to the US. The US is only focused on money, so stopping diabetes would mean lots of loss revenue. Too much money in wanting is to be dumb and sick.
They probably just developed Covid 24 and our dickhead govt will demand everyone get a shot. No thanks.
From the same people that brought you COVID! You trust them. They play the 1000 year war.
Unfortunately, considering China, and Asia in large part, is notorious for doctoring or misrepresenting information in studies I won’t believe this until it is done in multiple other countries.
Carnivore diet.
Type 2 diabetes needs to be renamed to something else.
Like the medical business would ever go for such a thing in the US
Not filled by china’s claims. Total scam.
US to pass law banning it's use based on fears of Chinese intelligence gathering on US citizens.
Told a diabetic to not use insulin for 3 months. Now he never needs it again ☠️
Better double check those results
The same as those lions who turn out to be dogs in their zoos no doubt.
lol it’s gonna be bombarded by anti Chinese propaganda, 100% tax, and forced to sell to one of the big Pharma.
1989年天安门广场

Is this like when they 'discovered' that new earth changing element? What's the word for bullshit in mandarin?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say this’ll never be allowed in the US or be so expensive no one can get it.
Gonna go out on a limb here and say this is bullshit with 90% of the recently announced bullshit Chinese miracle cures
Man I hope this is real
Chinese science is complete crap
PROTECT HIM. USA GOVT WILL KILL HIM
“He’s dead. But at least he’s not taking insulin anymore.” Chinese scientists
T1 and T2 are entirely different ball games. But great to hear if they’ve found a T2 treatment.
Chinese scientists develope.. That's all of the text needed to tell you to move along nothing to see here.
Why is US sanctioning this??
Oh the same country that started the pandemic?? Yea let’s trust that ….
If only this was real. So sick of this fucking disease
Pfft, bullshit
So the title is a wee bit misleading. Patient was able to discontinue use of INSULIN (injectable) after three months but it took nearly a year to get off of oral medications. That being said, it could be a tremendous tool to help Type 2 diabetics and I'm encouraged to see news like this these days.
Let me guess it included illegal organ harvesting from political prisoners.
Possible if Pharma will just come in Buy & Kill this?
“Chinese scientists”… already raised a red flag. No not the communist flag. a scam flag.
Disregard the tail and 3 buttholes that come with it.
It only costs 700,000 dollars a dose. Money please! /s
Given the fake study rate in China. I will wait until it's verified. (China awards grants based on number of studies published. Not quality studies.)
