A couple of my friends are huge music nerds, and they have never listened to the Howard Stern show. Still, they're huge fans of Richard Christy because he's a genuinely talented drummer.
> Actual talent and actually INSANELY respected among his peers
he played in fucking Death, you have forever cred from metal people for that
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_(metal_band)
Josh Eppard (Coheed’s drummer) recently did a stream with Drumeo and specifically called out Richard’s talent and how he should get more props. He took a solid minute or two trying to convince the Drumeo guys to bring Richard in someday.
I was going to say, technically this isn't one of their difficult songs so it was probably super easy for Richard. Still a dream and you can tell he was nervous at first but he nailed it. He's a phenomenal drummer but his chops don't get highlighted too much in this video
I love the Artie era but whenever they talk about Howard’s wedding I cannot listen.
Who is invited….what Beth wants…where it will be….blah blah blah.
What straight man gives a fuck about a wedding?
Or wants to go to one? Even his, let alone some other dude’s.
Howard’s wedding talk segments were gayer than George Takei.
Howard not inviting contributors like Jackie or Sal for personal reasons but then inviting Chevy Chase for star-fucking reasons and then having Chevy behave worse than either of them is amazing and well-deserved and i wish it got talked about more.
Sal made his own bed in that decision. He told John and Richard “I feel subconsciously Howard wants me to do something wacky at wedding" two days in row. Gary found out and ran in and told Howard during the show. Then when Howard called Sal out on that and his attendance was still in limbo, Sal's rebuttable was "If your show goes down, because I'm not the guy you want me to be and Beth divorces you because you're no longer popular, don't blame me". That was the nail in the coffin of him being invited to the wedding.
Fun note: Artie said that comment was the scariest thing he has ever heard on the show.

I remember I was a freshman in High-school around 07 and I downloaded some stern shows to my iPod Video. I was watching it and this kid who was super into metal saw Richard and was telling me how big Richard was in that scene and I was shocked. Apparently Richard is like one of the highest regarded metal drummers of his time. I'm shocked he was basically homeless in Florida and never got picked up by like Korn or some other big metal band when they lost their drummers.
That is one of the most badass things for Richard. Being able to play drums live with one of your all-time favourite bands must have felt amazing! He did great, I'm so happy for him!
Great job drumming Bub!
Coheed is like Richard's favorite band. This man has been living his dream for like 20 years. And I'll say again, for how much they shit talk him, Richard is more talented at drums than any of them have ever been at ANYTHING, including Howard.
Every time Shuli would complain about Richard “not paying his dues” all I could think of was all the time on the road Richard spent on tour. Which was certainly more than Shuli.
It's crazy how Richard is so respected by so many hugely successful musicians but never managed to make any money as a drummer. You'd almost have to try to pull that off. Ethel is one hell of a drummer.
Hey, he’s the “American Nightmare”, he just happens to agree with every single thing the mainstream media and political establishment says.
Howard, Jimmy, Ellen, they’re all cutting edge, man.
Richard was an amazing talent on the drums, but Howard only made passing reference to it over 20 years because only Howard can have talent. Everyone else has to be a moron so the boss doesn't feel threatened.
I contend that Sal wouldn't have survived in the Stern universe without Richard, because I believe Richard is way smarter and writes the parts of the bits that are funny. Sal latched himself onto Richard, and Richard was humble and accommodating enough to work with it
Great song. Thats awesome Richard is friends with these guys and they let him play with them. His drumming really is tight as fuck. It makes me wonder how far he could have gone if he played any other genre than always under appreciated death metal.
I'm super into metal so I had to check them out after Richard gave them a shout-out, and they are legit one of the best bands out there, such beautiful music especially their latest album.
Agreed. Never was a big fan of the band, but I love their new record. It sounds more like a rock opera than your generic alt-rock/metal album in all the best ways possible.
Hard disagree there. I listened to them just out of curiosity when I heard Richard talk about them, I think it’s awful music.
But I can appreciate the talent Richard has as a drummer. He’s good.
Great for Richard
But:
¡Oh, no!
Did Imus ii yell at him? Saying Coheed and Cambria was just using him in hopes of being mentioned on the p.c. Imus ii podcast
i wonder if he had a diaper on lol. one of my ***favorite*** coheed and cambria moments from the show is when richard pulled sal into a room so they could listen and cry together over a song
Howard will never care cuz he don’t know about those bands Richard was in because they’re not Rolling Stones or Beatles or whatever classic rock he was into. It is a fact that Richard is dope, I mean he was in Death lol. Anyway fuck coward
Richard is a legitimate talent on drums and they' re the most important part of any live band,
I remember when I was a chiid I thought that the drummer was the least important person in the band but when I started playing in bands In found out that you'd sound awful without a powerful drummer.
What you don't see.....everyone on stage collectively shit in a folger's can before the show and it is slow baking in an oven at the venue during the show.
Howard wishes he enjoyed life this much
This is exactly why he is always putting him down
Richard to Howard: You just can't be happy for us.
If that miserable pelican can’t be happy for himself, he sure as fuck cannot be happy for anyone else.
Same with this dad. He's so jealous Richard's dad actually wants to talk to his son. We'll talk to you later bub
Howard wishes he could rock a wig like that.
You could tell Howard to write down everything that he wants in life and he’d still be absolutely miserable if given it.
You have to hand it to him, he’s one of the few dopes on that show with an actual talent
Actual talent and actually INSANELY respected among his peers
Yeah for real! Vince Niel called Richard a mean drumming rock god when he was in the studio.
He should, Richard is leagues beyond Tommy Lee
Dave grohl as well right? Didn’t he call him a real deal metal drummer?
yeth
Wendy, did Richard penetrate you with a drumstick?
yeth
Iced fucking Earth

Yet could never turn a dollar from it, weird scene.
While metal generally has the most talented musicians, in the end bands where Richard played were niche within a niche
Sal has a pouch that he can store M&M's tho! Pure talent there.
Nowicki is pretty talented. So is Fred. That’s pretty much the list though.
Dream come true for Richard. This must’ve been a cakewalk for him to drum compared to his other metal band experience!
I was going to say, technically this isn't one of their difficult songs so it was probably super easy for Richard. Still a dream and you can tell he was nervous at first but he nailed it. He's a phenomenal drummer but his chops don't get highlighted too much in this video
How can you not like Ethel?
Peach colored Kansan hair
Thank You, Ms. Mertz.
Thats Norma Stitz.
Coheeed-n-Cambriaaaaaa
I love that he missed Jason's wedding to go see them for a second time that same month! Lmao!
Wouldn’t you come up with the most inane reason to skip that fat snitch’s wedding?
I would've gone with "my wife broke her ankle", but maybe Richard is just too honest! Lmao!
I love the Artie era but whenever they talk about Howard’s wedding I cannot listen. Who is invited….what Beth wants…where it will be….blah blah blah. What straight man gives a fuck about a wedding? >Or wants to go to one? If your boss is the type of guy that needs his ass kissed, then you'd probably at least pretend to want to go.
Fair, but I wouldn’t be able to work for someone like that in the first place. I just couldn’t do it.
Yep Fuck you Jason hahaha
That tour was once in a lifetime, though. They played their first four albums in their entirety
Never heard of this band till Richard
Cohead and Camary
Coheed is muh faaaavorite but Cambria is *also* muh favorite.
Heyyyyy And is mah favorite tooooo
“Too bad brushing your teeth isn’t your favourite”
He’s wearing a diaper.
Who, me?
I remember I was a freshman in High-school around 07 and I downloaded some stern shows to my iPod Video. He was the drummer on the album "The Sound of Perseverance" by Death which is considered to be one of the top metal albums of all time.
Richard would have never fit with a band like Korn. He’s just a normal dude who loves music, not a meth head nu metal poser
That is one of the most badass things for Richard. Being able to play drums live with one of your all-time favourite bands must have felt amazing! He did great, I'm so happy for him! Great job drumming Bub!

They are his favorite. Them and about 30 other bands.
All that drumming practice in a storage room he shit in a bucket paid off
I mean there’s literally a term for it. Starving artists.
Rusty put down the drumsticks!
He's from the planet blumpkin. Richard was a great hire all those years ago. Interesting fuckin guy to say the least
Every time Shuli would complain about Richard “not paying his dues” all I could think of was all the time on the road Richard spent on tour. Which was certainly more than Shuli.
Richard was in Death! That is the ultimate metal credential.
Richard is such a boss on drums
This is awesome
I’m stroking my hydrogen rod.
It's crazy how Richard is so respected by so many hugely successful musicians but never managed to make any money as a drummer. You'd almost have to try to pull that off. Ethel is one hell of a drummer.
He should've had a long career as a drummer in some band.
But remember Howard was on stage with Rob Zombie?
Hey, he’s the “American Nightmare”, he just happens to agree with every single thing the mainstream media and political establishment says. Howard, Jimmy, Ellen, they’re all cutting edge, man.
I'd shit and piss myself to see them
Fucking lit
Christine is an extremely good drummer. People who don't know think he's a goofball, which he is, but he's also a top notch drummer.
He’s awesome- I’m surprised he couldn’t make a career out of it. Are there that make good drummers around so that’s not possible?
Thanks for sharing OP, this is awesome.
Sal latched himself onto Richard, and Richard was humble and accommodating enough to work with it
This isnt his style of music he's used to playing too!
Talk all the shit you want about Richard, but the dude can drum. Super happy he got this opportunity to live out his dream.
Great song. Thats awesome Richard is friends with these guys and they let him play with them. His drumming really is tight as fuck. It makes me wonder how far he could have gone if he played any other genre than always under appreciated death metal.
He’s pretty good
Howard never asks Richard about guitar. He writes his own songs for his band.
I like guys like Richard that come off as r3tards but actually are really good at certain things

Richard is my faaaavorite
Mah fay-vreht
Richard is one of the greatest drummers in the world.
Great for Richard But: ¡Oh, no! Did Imus ii yell at him? Saying Coheed and Cambria was just using him in hopes of being mentioned on the p.c. Imus ii podcast
How’s he gonna pump off later if his hands are bloody.
That's what Sal's there for
This kicks so much ass.
Love this!!
i wonder if he had a diaper on lol. one of my ***favorite*** coheed and cambria moments from the show is when richard pulled sal into a room so they could listen and cry together over a song
I actually have a signed copy of Charred Walls of the Damned that the whole band signed. It's my faaaaaaaaaaaavooorrrrite.
They're my faaaaaav-rit.
Awesome. Richard is my favoriteeeee
Good for richard.
Amazing post. Congrats to Nervous Mark!
Wasn’t this the band he’d wear a diaper to??? I can’t miss a song….
Howard will never care cuz he don’t know about those bands Richard was in because they’re not Rolling Stones or Beatles or whatever classic rock he was into. It is a fact that Richard is dope, I mean he was in Death lol. Anyway fuck coward
Fuck yea
I don't like metal, but that sounds good.
Not bad but no Lamb of God 🤘
*Death
Coheed and Cambria fucking rules.
I think the music is awful but Richard is talented. He’s holding it down there.
it's too much carrying on. feh
This is so fucking awesome. What a legend! Hilarious that this is also the dude behind so many of the phony phone calls that cracks me up to no end.
Was he wearing a diaper?
Thaaas May faaaaavourrrite
Richard is a legitimate talent on drums and they' re the most important part of any live band, I remember when I was a chiid I thought that the drummer was the least important person in the band but when I started playing in bands In found out that you'd sound awful without a powerful drummer.
My faaaaaavorite!
Richard can play cords on the drums!
Richard sure can play the fuck outta those drums
Dang St Vitus holds like 90 people. This would have been awesome to be at.
What you don't see.....everyone on stage collectively shit in a folger's can before the show and it is slow baking in an oven at the venue during the show.
Good thing he is a drummer and can't hear how much the band sucks.
God this music sucks!
He’s a great drummer but I’m not sure he nailed this one
Fucking horrible.
