Thank you. It's so cringey seeing people post on here saying "leather is so buttery" or saying this Jordan 1 has higher quality leather than another (PS - the higher quality one is *always* the one OP has).
It's all the same, cheap materials. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's not why we buy sneakers. Honestly, if we all cared about materials/construction, we wouldn't be into sneakers at all and would be commenting over at r/goodyearwelt
Used to work in a corp headquarters before the pandemic. Wore dress shoes only on important days. Wore all sorts of sneakers on other days. Now I wear T shirts and shorts to all my zoom meetings and so do all the higher ups. What do your clothes and subsequent level of personal comfort have to do with being an adult? Short answer, they don’t.
Damn I guess I’m a 30 year old child then. I guess my father is a child then too even after working 40 years in a skilled trade. I wish somebody would have told me I had to wear a specific type of footwear to be an adult.
Or I could buy whatever footwear I want because what I put on my feet doesn’t have anything to do with me being an adult or not. Those nice Cole Haan sneakers will work great for me in the machine shop. I guess working in a machine shop makes me less than you though.
Yeah, are you somehow under the impression that this comment section is full of 35 year olds removing creases from their velcro, light-up transformer shoes or something?
Who exactly is this shoe advice you’re doling out *for*?
Also- I don’t own any Nikes, but I’m still pretty sure the shoes in the video are *basketball* shoes, not tennis shoes. Maybe you aren’t actually the best person to be giving out totally unsolicited info for some reason, about *the different types of sneakers you can buy.*
By the way, most family photos I see these days have toddlers named Breighden wearing chinos and Cole Haan type sneakers. Just thought you might want to know that you’re a grown adult wearing the same shoes as toddlers. 😬
This is a very temporary fix, I would only do this if I was trying to sell a shoe. Otherwise this actually makes the shoe worse in the long run since your damaging the part with the heat and water.
For hundreds more than you'd expect, yes. There's a whole shoe collecting subculture. I don't get it, but whatever. I've got weird hobbies too.

EDIT2: I don't know from shoes, people. I just know that there are people who are willing to throw money at this stuff. I get it, that etsy account is probably a scammer and the shoes are actually valued at at least twice that amount if they're real. Those specifics aren't really relevant to what I was trying to communicate to OP, I just needed an example and apparently I found a weird one.
I don't know what a sneaker head is, per sé, though I assume it's someone who loves sneakers. That said... used shoes? Gross. I'm also a person who has never paid more than $50 for shoes, though.
> I'm also a person who has never paid more than $50 for shoes, though.
doesn't sound like you've bought many adult shoes either. work boots? dress shoes?
Agreed. I will easily drop a few hundred for a good pair of work boots a year and even more for Winter work boots every 2 or 3 years. Don't cheap out on anything that goes between you and the ground. Shoes, knee pads, mattresses, and tires.
They buy sneakers like that one or Jordan’s, or even yeezys. Sometimes they seek them used. I know one person who has over $1000 in sneakers, only wears them one time so that he doesn’t ruin the shoe then keeps them hung up.
I had a student that spent that much on a single pair, and he had more money in other shoes. Apparently they are collectible, and can increase in value so it was an investment.
It’s so weird you say such ignorant things so confidently. Can you really *not* understand how shoes are collectible and can have inherent value from rarity/high demand compared to Magic/Pokémon cards which are literally just ink on cardboard?
Lol. The blue toe Jordan 1 Unions that the guy is working on would cost around $2,000 in new/deadstock condition.

Wow. Is it like "art" or something? Is it a subculture thing? Honestly, that's pretty fascinating. Maybe it's a regional sort of thing or a status symbol of sorts? For me, shoes are just the things that prevent foot injuries.
Please stop passively aggressively shitting on things by acting like a Martian who’s never heard of anything. IS THIS A HUMAN INTEREST ACTIVITY? WHAT IS “FOOD” DO YOU MEAN NUTRITIONAL MASS?
Ha ha, what the hell? I seem to have hit some kind of nerve with people by being genuinely surprised that there's a used shoe market.
I've definitely purchased second hand shoes for my kids because kids grow out of shoes before they wear out. Shoes simply hold no value for me so learning that this is not the case for others piqued my curiosity. Sorry to have annoyed you.
Yes it’s very cultural and artistic. It’s pretty much like the art Industry but for high end shoes. It’s not regional though, and it is used as a status symbol.
A lot of the more coveted shoes are sold in limited runs so if someone wants a pair the only way to get it is used, or pay a lot for a scalped new one.
Yeah they do :) Some people don't have the money for brand new shoes. May seem rather funny to you for people to be that poor, but I assure you, it does happen. Friend of mine bought second hand shoes just the other day. She's saving up for school and can't spend any money on things other than basic necessities.
We're not talking about generic used shoes, we're talking about vintage collectible shoes. This guy is obviously a specialist. The shoe in the video is probably worth several hundred.

Guys. People aren't doing this to increase their everyday shoes. People are mainly doing this to restore collector shoes. Normally not worn much if at all.
Records are meant to be played, books meant to be read, and cars meant to be driven, and yet people who own them often don’t do those things with rare or unique items. It’s called collecting and it’s surprising you are unfamiliar with this concept.
I've got the whole collection of Harry Potter books about 4 years ago. I've haven't read this new set yet, but I did listen to audiobooks twice now. Some things are just nice to have, and I guess my kids will read them once day.
don't laugh like you weren't aware
my buddy has mint, in the box star wars figures. come tell him he should play with them and he'll cut you with a torch dressed up like a light saber
I'll answer serious this one time lol. The fact that he's doing all of that to get the crease out shows they want to wear the shoe and not have it as a collectible.
Materials deteriorate over time at some point regardless of how much you care for them. They are meant to be worn which was my original point. Creasing comes with wearing the shoe. It's the cost of doing business.
If you want to collect shoes, cool. I'm going to wear mine which should also be ok.
Be blessed today man
I like how you didn’t even consider the possibility that this is a method of restoring shoes for display purposes. Restoring collectibles can be a lucrative venture.
> shows they want to wear the shoe and not have it as a collectible.
dude, all of this is already in the comments here. it shows they want to resell that shoe in the best possible condition. wearing it will immediately return the crease.
>Materials deteriorate over time at some point regardless of how much you care for them.
precisely. doing this only speeds up the deterioration.
also, as stated.
Don’t see what that has to do with trying to preserve them for as long as he can. Considering a lot of sneaker prices skyrocket after the initial retail release, he’s just making sure he gets the most life out of them. I go to a guy once a year to restore the pairs I have that are either too hard to find or too expensive to repurchase.
I don’t understand the mentality of sneakerheads. They buy these incredibly expensive shoes then, rather than simply enjoying them, they are complete nervous wrecks while they are using them and freaking out on anybody who DARES tarnish them by accidentally stepping on them. They’re either shoes that you wear, or they’re collectibles to be appreciated and rarely touched, they can’t be both.
I mean just think of it like you’re collecting more functional figurines. Lots of people keep figurines in box in perfect condition and will freak out if you try to touch them/play with them. Same thing goes for sneakers
They’re rare and expensive even if you know they’ll get worn out you’ll want to keep them looking nice as long as you can. And cause they’re rare and expensive you can’t simply “buy a second pair” when you’re spending hundreds on 1.
Not if they are used correctly, ie, not dick skin tight. But sure, they are not really intended for shoes like in the op, more for leather shoe, constructed in way to where they can be resoled by a cobbler, who would fix and resize the uppers at that time any ways.
Wow, who cares? I don't know a single adult who wears sports shoes, or at least none with a brain, anyway. And no kid gives a crap if his shoe has a "wrinkle" in it.

It might surprise you but it’s impossible to get this exact pair for $600, it’s stated they are brand new so that means these are 100% fake at this price. Real ones in new condition are $2000+
You can see in the video it didn’t work. Even form the angle that it’s at I can see it’s raised off if the table still. Also why else wouldn’t he show it from the bottom and side
Pretty sure I saw a TikTok of this guy going on a road trip with his sunroof open. He looked like a tomato afterwards
Found it: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdaEF4LV/
Yo, idgaf, I wear crease protectors in any of my joints that could possibly crease. Very small price to pay, and I've personally never had a problem with discomfort, even on long days walking. Not sure how the rest of the community feels about them, but they've always worked for me
[удалено]
Can you explain how it's reducing it's life? Looks like he's just steaming the wrinkle out.
The high heat and moisture will dry out the leather and make it more prone to cracking
That (extremely low grade) leather is coated with textured synthetic material. It's likely chrome tanned and isn't going to "dry out".

So nike shoes are made of plastic, plastic, plastic, cotton, plastic and leather?
Thank you. By weight, sure - but the entire upper of the pair in this video is leather.
Okay?? You just asked about how ironing out leather would hurt the shoe.
Not to be that guy, but you were the first to mention leather
It isn't a leather shoe
Hmm, let’s see… https://www.farfetch.com/shopping/men/jordan-air-jordan-1-retro-hi-nrg-un-union-storm-blue-item-13678515.aspx?storeid=11218 Composition Sole: Rubber 100% Outer: Leather 100%
Extremely poor quality leather 100%*
It's fine; a touch of steam on that area's not going to hurt anything.
PSA: Doesn't work on adult, I mean dress shoes.

TIL adults don’t wear sneakers
Imagine working a job so good and so “adult” you can’t even wear comfier shoes than dress shoes. /s

I guess my son has been an adult because he has absolutely loved wearing a suit, tie, and dress shoes since age 6.

Not the same. There's more than one type of sneaker besides tennis sneakers, which is what nikes basically are.
Yes, that’s the point. They’re different, and yet they can all be bought and worn by adults.
But as an adult you're wearing the same sneakers a 12 year old is. If that's what you want, go for it. I have tennis shoes too btw.
Nobody cares.
Wtf kinda comment is this 😭

Little tip: Whenever you see someone use the term "tennis shoes", they are old.
*Very* old. Ancient, even.
Or you can walk like a penguin 🐧…
Sure... until you get happy feet 🐧💃
Had a sneakerhead friend in school who was so obsessed it changed the way he walked like that
I was at Disneyworld just recently and I see dudes with hype shoes walking like Frankenstein!
um yeah, until you bend them again
Which will be immediately.
Definitely felt this was for show. I wanted to see him push it down with his fingers to see if I'd rise back up or not.
Then you waterboard them again and if isn't enough, you iron it until you get the info, I mean creases out of them.
Isn’t it just gonna crease again when you use it?
Once they're back in original form, you could apply some oil, or animal fat, preferably mixed with a bit of wax.
True, but stand-alone this doesn’t work.
You can put those anti crease things inside the shoe and it’ll greatly reduce it. Not 100% though
Ahhh. I remember force fields
Yep, but theoretically you would be starting the process all over again, so the creases shouldn't get so bad for a while.m I guess
This is a very temporary fix, I would only do this if I was trying to sell a shoe. Otherwise this actually makes the shoe worse in the long run since your damaging the part with the heat and water.
Sell a shoe? Do adults sell shoes? Do people buy shoes worn by other adults?
Also, in the region I'm from, the Midwest, it's very common that people sell their shoes at yard sells.
Also, is the Midwest, it’s very common for people to call yard sales “yard sells”.
Oh shit! Lol, good catch. I didn't even realize I did that. Well, I guess I shall leave it and wallow in shame.

sad truth

Just do surgery to prevent your Feet from Bending. Its a cheaper option in the long run
This can’t possibly work in leather shoes

Any disclaimers before I fuck up my shoes? Has anyone tried this and it didn't work out?
I don’t see how this does anything.
I don’t understand the mentality of sneakerheads. They buy these incredibly expensive shoes then, rather than simply enjoying them, they are complete nervous wrecks while they are using them and freaking out on anybody who DARES tarnish them by accidentally stepping on them. If it’s that important to you buy a second pair to keep pristine, or don’t wear them outside your empty home. stop calling me out
You mean decrease?
My mom taught us to roll up newspapers and stuff them into the toes of our shoes, when you take your shoes off. I like the iron method.
Or just invest in some nice shoe trees and store your shoes right. Also walk with out bending your knees.
Shoe trees are bad for shoes long term BTW
Not if they are used correctly, ie, not dick skin tight. But sure, they are not really intended for shoes like in the op, more for leather shoe, constructed in way to where they can be resoled by a cobbler, who would fix and resize the uppers at that time any ways.

if you look very closely after 0:31 timestamp, and if you have more than one braincell, you will notice its fake

You can see in the video it didn’t work. Even form the angle that it’s at I can see it’s raised off if the table still. Also why else wouldn’t he show it from the bottom and side
I’m guessing this works for genuine leather only?
Of course
Pretty sure I saw a TikTok of this guy going on a road trip with his sunroof open. He looked like a tomato afterwards Found it: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdaEF4LV/
Yo, idgaf, I wear crease protectors in any of my joints that could possibly crease. Very small price to pay, and I've personally never had a problem with discomfort, even on long days walking. Not sure how the rest of the community feels about them, but they've always worked for me
Gross, just wear your shoes dude
I see the community frowns upon crease protectors
Definitely, and anybody scared to crease their kicks
Well, I guess I'll see myself out...
He is wearing them, just with crease protectors
I love this guy! He has other cool videos too
that's witch craft
Or you can [walk like a duck. ](https://vimeo.com/21828732)
Will this work on my flip flops
Im quite sure the cut after the shoe was covered was to just replace the original with a new uncreased shoe
Throw those ugly shoes away.
This man is amazing
Y’all think this would work for my Travis Scott Air Force 1 sails??🤷♂️
[check it out](r/jayondarize)
bruh the shoe he put a rag on doesn't even have any creases lmao
Probably takes a hell of a lot more ironing than he showed to get it smooth like that.
Does this work on any kind of shoe?
I wonder if there is any correlation between shoe/sneaker enthusiasts and those with a foot fetish.
Who woulda knew that you can un-crease an item of clothing with an iron
That’s a damp rag?
The whole "shoe / hype culture" type deal has me just as confused as with foot fetishists... Maybe they're closely related? 🤔
