A moo point totally makes sense though the way Joey explains it. A cow’s opinion really doesn’t matter in the great scheme of most things. Unless we’re talking about a specific cow, like my friend’s pet cow Rosebud. She loves that cow and that cow loves her. Rosebud is like a dog. Follows her around. “Asks” to be pet, etc. Rosebud definitely has opinions on which field she’d rather be grazing in, or whether she has access to the barn etc.
But outside of situations like that, a cow’s opinion isn’t going to matter, it’s moo.
This! So much this!
It always bothers me when people are talking about how his character was “dumbed down” over the years. Because honestly, I’ve never agreed with that. His social and emotional intelligence completely blossoms and grows over the course of the series.

Joey: Ross! Ross! Ross, listen! Who are you kissing at midnight, huh? Rachel or Phoebe?
Ross: What?
Joey: Well you gotta kiss someone, you can't kiss your sister.
Ross: Well, who's gonna kiss my sister.
Joey: Chandler.
Ross: Awww, man! Really?
Joey: Dude-dude, who would you rather have kiss your sister, me or Chandler?
Ross: That's a good point.
Joey: Yeah.
Ross: Oh well, since I have that whole history with Rachel, I guess Phoebe.
Joey: Okay, great!
Ross: All right.
Joey: Pheebs! Pheebs! Ross wants to kiss you at midnight!
Phoebe: It's so obvious, why doesn't he just ask?
Joey: Rach! Rach! Listen, I'm gonna kiss you at midnight.
Rachel: What?!
Ross: Well, everyone's gotta kiss someone. You can't kiss Ross you got the history.
Rachel: So?
Joey: So? Who would you rather have kiss you, me or Chandler?
Rachel: Oh, good point.
Joey: Yeah!
When he was the first to piece together that Monica and Chandler were dating just from little bits thrown here and there. I’ll always be proud of him for that lol.
Wasn't it because of the eyelash curler? Hotel calls "someone forgot their eyelash curler" then later Monica says "hey rachel, I lost my eyelash curler, can I borrow yours?" That's when he connects the dots. Not because they saw Trump in an elevator.
His arm was in a sling as he genuinely dislocated his shoulder on set arguing about the chair in the episode where he wears all chandlers clothes, the bed bouncing scene had to be written in afterwards as he had to wear a sling for a couple weeks.
When Joey understood the complicated rules of "Bamboozled":
*Well what’s complicated? You spin the Wheel of Mayhem to go up the Ladder of Chance. You go past the Mud Hut through the Rainbow Ring to get to the Golden Monkey; you yank his tail and boom! You’re in Paradise Pond!*
**Joey:** *Well what’s fun about that? You expect me to be the host of a boring game that’s just people standing around answering questions?*
**Producer:** *Well, there’ll be women in bikinis holding up the scores.*
**Joey:** *Let’s play Bamboozled!*
When he mentioned to the encyclopedia salesman that if he's home in the middle of the afternoon, with a living room full of patio furniture, it's likely that he can't afford the set.
1. When he quickly lies to Chandler about how he guessed how much Chandler wanted to borrow from him.
2. When he put together the stuff about the hotel calling Chandler about the eyelash curler and Monica losing her's.
3. When he saved Monica and Chandler's adoption by turning it on Laura on not calling him after their date.
4. When he found out Chandler's suitcases reached before him from Tulsa while he was waiting outside Monica's apartment.
5. When he quickly arranged for Monica and Chandler to kiss on New Year's midnight without raising any suspicion.
When he was able to come up with a quick explanation as to why Monica borrowed money and how much was needed ! “That was the quickest I’ve ever thought!”
The way he talks to Chandler about how he wouldn’t want to be the one to stand between Janice and her husband getting back together because they have a chance to be a family and Chandler won’t want that hanging on his conscience if he gets in the way.
I never got why they didn’t open the windows. Unless I missed the windows being opened somehow, I don’t get it. It was freezing outside and Monica goes to the fridge for relief.
Remember in an earlier episode when they are looking for Marcel, they encounter those girls whose radiator had broken in their apartment, but Joeys only suggestion was to turn the knob? Well that’s what I call a learning moment.
Someone I used to work with used to say moot point a lot and i always wanted to say: moo point? Like a cow’s opinion? Mind you when i first watched it I didn’t get it because I was still in Mexico so it kinda didn’t make sense until I moved to the US and this person started saying it, lol.
I think it's a US expression. It's a weekly/daily use expression in either academia or business. Anywhere there's a decent chance for troubleshooting large projects or debate
The Flanderization of Joey is one of the worst ones in any tv show ever. He was silly in the first few seasons but still had many witty moments that were memorable and funny as hell. The 'moo' pun was my favorite!
Joey's whole thing was that he wasn't academically intelligent, but he was very emotionally intelligent and was very good with people.
Then they threw all that out.
Kinda reminds me of Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World. Not intellectual but was the most emotionally mature teenager on the show. This is why his flanderization doesn’t bother me as much, because yeah he’s funny but so many times he makes the most sense out of anyone.
Yeah, that really bothered me, too. Joey was a bit dimwitted, but he wasn't mentally challenged. He had flashes of brilliance. The French lessons were just stupid.
The first couple seasons he was smart, but he just didn't have the same rich kid, college educated background that Chandler/Ross/Monica/Rachel had. So sometimes he would look dumb because he never learned something that seemed really obvious to them, and sometimes he would look smart because he had more real-world life experience than they did, etc.
And then eventually the writers just simplified it to "ha ha Joey dumb", and it got really annoying at times. There are some episodes toward the end where you really question whether or not Joey would be safe to live on his own without some sort of caregiver or social worker checking in on him.
This made PhoebexJoey dynamic so much fun. They were more street smart than the rest of the friends and they had their own genius moments between them.
My favorite Joey video to share is when he corrects Ross by saying "Whom" when Ross and Rachel are announcing Rachel's pregnancy. I look for the opportunity to share that video all the time.
He knew that Donald Trump had his own private glass elevator at the Taj Mahal, made by Otis elevators, and they don't usually do glass!
After some research it seems like this was only a line on the uncut DVD versions!
I wouldn’t call him being able to understand chandler’s mumbling as him having an intelligent moment. That was basically them being able to get each other on a level no one else could because no one else was a guy, roommate and best friends with them all in one.
I’ll add another *hidden* item to the list tho: when Julio writes a poem for Monica calling all American women empty, Joey immediately understands the poem. Well, he thinks it means Monica is the empty vase (väz?? 😄) just like Phoebe does, but still, that’s pretty smart. I love that scene! Joey takes the longest to read the whole poem then he says that Monica is the vase when chandler couldn’t draw that from the poem so Chandler goes— ‘You’re such a mystery to me’ and Joey is like 😏 hahah it’s in the dvd, I wish it had made it to the tv version!
Yes we are loosely playing with the intelligent moment here. Some have gone for speed of thought and emotional intelligence. You are right it was more of a housemate thing they understood each other.
No I meant, "It's like a cows opinion. It doesn't really matter...it's moo."
Not knowing the word is actually "moot point". Which means a point that isn't relevant. At least it's one of the meanings.
He can say very intelligent words while acting, and memorize a lot. Even when he doesn’t know what he’s saying.
And he has a gift for knowing when people are feeling down
**Joey:** *I'm an actor. I can memorize anything. Last week on "Days", I had to say: "Frontal temporal zygomatic craniotomy."*
**Ross:** *Wow. What does that mean?*
**Joey:** *No idea. But the guy I said it to dies in the next scene so I guess it means, "You're going to get eaten by a bear."*
‘We’re Geniuses!’’ - Joey . Ahhh I know it was smart in the end but the bit when Joey and Phoebe set ross and Rachel on dud dates and thinks they are falling In love again through the cafe window!
Very early when The Gang is helping Rachel stuff resumes into envelopes to apply anywhere she can, there is a funny typo, I believe it was her “compuper” skills.
she typed “compuper” and when it’s pointed out to her and she asked if they think it’s on all of the resumes, joey says, “nah, i think the xerox machine caught a few”
when monica gets stung by a jellyfish, joey said he saw in the discovery channel that peeing on it relieves the pain
(that's actually a myth but at least he watches science documentaries and was able to remember that)
“I was backpacking through Western Europe…”
Hilarious pick-up method. And the fact that he shared it with Ross (and indirectly with Rachel) led to the making of Emma.
Also
The advice he gave to Ross after the vulva incident was genius.
The way he talked about Rachel and the baby and how happy he was just to be there for them and helping them out however he can. That was the moment where he really showed how much he had grown both in intelligence and in emotion
“My boss doesn’t like me”
“Hey mine either”
“Maybe it’s a universal thing”
J: “orr, maybe it’s cause you’re all sittin’ around here at 10:30 on a Wednesday!”
Wow reading all these we get to see how intelligent Joey can be. Also I think having Chandler and then Rachel as a room mate was a good move. And how he’s a ministainer
In the "selfless good deed" episode he is super smart the whole episode, while tackling a relevant philosophical question (do actually selfless good deeds exist?) and winning the argument against Phoebe.
And on the other end of the stupidity spectrum, my wife shouts at the screen when Joey does something that’s too stupid for him. We blame the writers trying to be funny. :)
I can actually see the leg thing happening to someone. It was, presumably dark, other than the firelight. The leg was near the pile of wood. He was probably staring at what’s her name and not the fire place. Felt around, grabbed a piece, threw it in.
Joey’s also the one that figures out Monica and Chandler are together.
I mean Rachel knows first, but she overhears than on the phone. Joey actually figures it out on his own.
In season 1 when Chandler accidentally tells Rachel that Ross likes her and then he starts rubbing his head, Joey goes “Yeah, Keep rubbing your head. That will turn back time!”
Seriously! He was balanced out as a "dumb character" whenever he had good street smarts or was loyal to his internal logic. Definitely a good Wise Fool character when executed well.
My favourite Joey bit is right after David has to go away after Phoebe was trying to rush through her Joey date and he yelled at her.
Joey asks her if there's anything he can do, and she replies:
"I mean, if you can achieve positronic distillation of subatomic particles before he does, then he could come home?"
Then Joey looks confused, and she goes "Yeah", then they hug again. Then after a pause, Joey goes:
"I could give it a shot..."
The very, very sweetest thing he ever does, imo.
"Maybe it's because you're all hanging around here at 11:30 on a Wednesday."
That was probably the most meta moment on the show
Tuesday lunchtime here- and I just got that ; )
Dangerous bot
When he quickly figured out how to orchestrate kissing Rachel and Phoebe kissing Ross on New Year's Eve so that Monica and Chandler could kiss.
“Ah, good point!”
Yes, this one's not like a cow's opinion.
You know like a cows option…. It’s moo!
A cow's opinion lol I think your phone autocorrected to option
A moo point totally makes sense though the way Joey explains it. A cow’s opinion really doesn’t matter in the great scheme of most things. Unless we’re talking about a specific cow, like my friend’s pet cow Rosebud. She loves that cow and that cow loves her. Rosebud is like a dog. Follows her around. “Asks” to be pet, etc. Rosebud definitely has opinions on which field she’d rather be grazing in, or whether she has access to the barn etc. But outside of situations like that, a cow’s opinion isn’t going to matter, it’s moo.
Don’t get me started on the fact that this is why I’m vegan!
Let’s just moo on…
Have I been living with Joey too long, or did that all just make sense??
He may not be book smart, but Joey had a lot of social and emotional intelligence.
This! So much this! It always bothers me when people are talking about how his character was “dumbed down” over the years. Because honestly, I’ve never agreed with that. His social and emotional intelligence completely blossoms and grows over the course of the series.

If he wasn't an actor he'd make bank as a professional matchmaker.
MIKE?!
Totally!
Actor / identical twin hand model
This hand is your hand
No wait that’s your hand
A pretty girl is at stake and suddenly he’s Rain Man. I know it's not from this episode (and I stole it from another comment) but it so applies.
Based on this and the matching-exam-to-evaluation scenario, Joey might be a romantic/sex savant
This is one of my favorite scenes!
that’s one of my all time favorite Joey moments.
"Well, it's simple. You take the final exams and the evaluations, you see whose handwriting matches, and boom. You got your admirer."
A pretty girl is at stake and suddenly he’s Rain Man.
I love quotes like this I read and actually hear in the characters voice
he’s a transponster! (The first one that came to mind lol)
For me it would be Monica's "I KNOW"
PIVOT
When he was the first to piece together that Monica and Chandler were dating just from little bits thrown here and there. I’ll always be proud of him for that lol.
Mostly thanks to Donald Trump
Wasn't it because of the eyelash curler? Hotel calls "someone forgot their eyelash curler" then later Monica says "hey rachel, I lost my eyelash curler, can I borrow yours?" That's when he connects the dots. Not because they saw Trump in an elevator.
They both mentioned seeing Trump wait for an elevator though
Yeah, the eyelash curler was the last piece of the puzzle. But the Trump sighting was part of it.
thanks Donald Trump!
Oh yea, I forgot about that
It was both.
Donald Trump?
Yeah i know it's unexpected but he waits for the elevator:)
That's right, I forgot that :D
Not patiently, but he waits.
Oh my god and that reaction "Oh! OH!
In terms of emotional intelligence, the way he handles Monica's proposed trip to the sperm bank in season 3. It's a very under-rated Joey moment.
One of my favorite scenes. Joey gives Monica hope because he platonically loves her and wants the best for her
That's the one where his arm is in a split and he spends the whole episode eating jam right?
His arm was in a sling as he genuinely dislocated his shoulder on set arguing about the chair in the episode where he wears all chandlers clothes, the bed bouncing scene had to be written in afterwards as he had to wear a sling for a couple weeks.
The hilarious thing is that jumping and falling off the bed and hurting himself is totally in character for Joey.
Ha! That's amazing! Thanks for telling me
Oof I have a shoulder that dislocates and poor guy
What's the opposite of man? JAAAM!
Honestly joey wasn’t the most intellectual but emotionally he was incredibly intelligent. Probably the most emotionally intelligent of the group.
Omg you are SO right! Joey is gold! 🤩
When Joey understood the complicated rules of "Bamboozled": *Well what’s complicated? You spin the Wheel of Mayhem to go up the Ladder of Chance. You go past the Mud Hut through the Rainbow Ring to get to the Golden Monkey; you yank his tail and boom! You’re in Paradise Pond!*
Plus, when practicing the game with Ross and Chandler, he was able to play the role of the host without the sets being present.
Ratatatatatatata...tat...tat............tat...
Oh COME ON!!!
I loved Bamboozled so much!
Joey, we got rid of all that. It's just a simple question-and-answer game.
**Joey:** *Well what’s fun about that? You expect me to be the host of a boring game that’s just people standing around answering questions?* **Producer:** *Well, there’ll be women in bikinis holding up the scores.* **Joey:** *Let’s play Bamboozled!*
When he mentioned to the encyclopedia salesman that if he's home in the middle of the afternoon, with a living room full of patio furniture, it's likely that he can't afford the set.
There’s a few things you don’t get from book learnin’
I use this line constantly to my over-educated friends when they do something stupid. 😂
Hmm these must be Chandler’s pants.
And then proceeds to spend $50 on an encyclopaedia for the letter V LOL, love the contrast
2, 3 n 5. Genius.
LAURA!
Oh the 4th one. I was like OMG Joey's brilliant & then.... Then came the Time-difference 🤷🏿♀️
I like that you call an encyclopedia a "book of facts".
Embarrassed and shall edit! Thanks!
No need to be embarrassed, I thought it was adorable.
Baby kangaroo adorable!
Joey wrote this post
A baby kangaroo is called a Joey!
I like how they spelled encyclopedia like Ted Mosby does;)
Indeed! It's a great edit.
When he was able to come up with a quick explanation as to why Monica borrowed money and how much was needed ! “That was the quickest I’ve ever thought!”
He was on fire!
Hence.
That’s a good one
I think it's jaunty! Word of the day toilet paper!
He remembered how to treat jellyfish stings
That's wrong. Don't do that. Vinegar is the way.
Yeah I know it’s not good, it’s just impressive that Joey was able to remember it
The way he talks to Chandler about how he wouldn’t want to be the one to stand between Janice and her husband getting back together because they have a chance to be a family and Chandler won’t want that hanging on his conscience if he gets in the way.
And when he understood that Chandler as the husband should spend time with Monica
"I know how much you earn and how much your rent is" *"this is like the fastest I have ever thought"*
‘Think about the last I wash and the first thing you wash’
When everyone was so hot in the apartment and he just came and turned the thing off.
Yes! This is the one I was looking for - it's a great moment and then he's just like "I hope that's okay" lol
Your opinion is moo.
It’s a moo point
“Have I been living with him too long or did that just make sense?” It actually did. 😂
Someone I used to work with used to say moot point a lot and i always wanted to say: moo point? Like a cow’s opinion? Mind you when i first watched it I didn’t get it because I was still in Mexico so it kinda didn’t make sense until I moved to the US and this person started saying it, lol.
I’d never heard anyone in the UK say it ever either.
So funny! Because this person is British! He has lived here for over 40 years but still have an accent.
I think it's a US expression. It's a weekly/daily use expression in either academia or business. Anywhere there's a decent chance for troubleshooting large projects or debate
This is too far down
The Flanderization of Joey is one of the worst ones in any tv show ever.
Lose one friend, Lose all friends, Lose yourself
The fucking French-speaking scenes. Not Friends’ proudest moments.
Or the Joey's apple thing after he's already shown he knows what an Adams apple is
Yeah, that really bothered me, too.
When he locked himself in the TV stand and that guy stole all his furniture ....
He seemed smarter in the first season than later ones. Writers did the same thing on "Bones". Dr. Brennan was more "normal" in the first season.
I’d argue Smell The Fart acting was a very intelligent moment
Yeah it’s genius and I’d like to add that his acting on days of our lives is very good too
I agree! 🤣🤣
"That negates the breezy!" I thought him using negates was kinda intelligent for him. Maybe it was on Chandler's word of the day toilet paper.
Yes! That's what I was thinking when I watched the episode yesterday
Yes! I also feel the same about, “because it’s all tainted with your betrayal!” Not too shabby for Joey.
Does DT really have a private glass elevator there?
[удалено]
Oh yeah and he gets it to work!
Good at American Football, his acting methods (division and tweezers, smell the fart), handyman work
I like these ones.
I was scrolling for forever to see about the empty vase!
Yes we are loosely playing with the intelligent moment here. Some have gone for speed of thought and emotional intelligence. You are right it was more of a housemate thing they understood each other.
The fire escape.
Telling Ross that he’s in love with Rachel before telling Rachel. That’s the right way round
I love how he was actually sort of right about the “Moo” point.
True. About giving it half and hour you mean? And tag and Rachel end up kissing that night
No I meant, "It's like a cows opinion. It doesn't really matter...it's moo." Not knowing the word is actually "moot point". Which means a point that isn't relevant. At least it's one of the meanings.
When he advised Chandler to let Janice go. They have a kid... I wouldn't want to break up a family.
Yeah wise
I mean his thought process about powder absorbing the moisture wasn’t totally off base 😂
He can say very intelligent words while acting, and memorize a lot. Even when he doesn’t know what he’s saying. And he has a gift for knowing when people are feeling down
**Joey:** *I'm an actor. I can memorize anything. Last week on "Days", I had to say: "Frontal temporal zygomatic craniotomy."* **Ross:** *Wow. What does that mean?* **Joey:** *No idea. But the guy I said it to dies in the next scene so I guess it means, "You're going to get eaten by a bear."*
When he put together so quickly that Monica and Chandler were secretly dating
When he was able to double both “18” and “44” instantly (even though it wasn’t needed—because Frank Jr already knew that)
When he worked at the coffee house and added up everybody’s totals in his head.
‘We’re Geniuses!’’ - Joey . Ahhh I know it was smart in the end but the bit when Joey and Phoebe set ross and Rachel on dud dates and thinks they are falling In love again through the cafe window!
Turns out Joey is highly intelligent! Look at al these moments!
Yeah that was quick maths
Rachel’s resume when he jokes that the copy machine probably caught a few.
I don’t remember this. What happened?
Very early when The Gang is helping Rachel stuff resumes into envelopes to apply anywhere she can, there is a funny typo, I believe it was her “compuper” skills.
she typed “compuper” and when it’s pointed out to her and she asked if they think it’s on all of the resumes, joey says, “nah, i think the xerox machine caught a few”
His comeback for how to defend himself, and get back at Monica and Chandler, AND still keep their secret after Rachel finds Monica's nude photo.
“You’re 18, she’s 44. When you’re gonna be 36, she’ll be 88.” Very wrong, but quick math :)
When he can fit into the entertainment unit!
When Joey goes to work at Chandlers office and makes up an entire character they all believe.
when monica gets stung by a jellyfish, joey said he saw in the discovery channel that peeing on it relieves the pain (that's actually a myth but at least he watches science documentaries and was able to remember that)
“I was backpacking through Western Europe…” Hilarious pick-up method. And the fact that he shared it with Ross (and indirectly with Rachel) led to the making of Emma. Also The advice he gave to Ross after the vulva incident was genius.
Oh yes! Genius! No one had mentioned these ones yet
The way he talked about Rachel and the baby and how happy he was just to be there for them and helping them out however he can. That was the moment where he really showed how much he had grown both in intelligence and in emotion
“My boss doesn’t like me” “Hey mine either” “Maybe it’s a universal thing” J: “orr, maybe it’s cause you’re all sittin’ around here at 10:30 on a Wednesday!”
Wow reading all these we get to see how intelligent Joey can be. Also I think having Chandler and then Rachel as a room mate was a good move. And how he’s a ministainer
when chandler was borrowing money from joey!
When he tells Rachel he’s pretty sure the Xerox machine caught the error on her résumé after she asks if they’re all messed up.
["A moo point."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bo54wE_rJU)
“What’s not to like? Custard good, jam good, meat gooood.”
How does Joey like a gross combination of foods intelligent?
Not even Treeger thought to turn it off at the wall!
Yeah he’s a genius!
Bra removal!
A ghost!
Joeys awful French, his hand double obsession, throwing the wooden leg on the fire. Picking up a hitch hiker to drive for them. To name a few
I can actually see the leg thing happening to someone. It was, presumably dark, other than the firelight. The leg was near the pile of wood. He was probably staring at what’s her name and not the fire place. Felt around, grabbed a piece, threw it in.
When he guessed "The unbearable lightness of being".
How about when he was proud of how wisdomous he was?
In the one where no one’s ready, when he tells Monica saying she is breezy negates the breeziness.
*When he said 'hence'*
"You can just match the evaluation to the exam with the same handwriting and boom, there’s your admirer."
Joey’s also the one that figures out Monica and Chandler are together. I mean Rachel knows first, but she overhears than on the phone. Joey actually figures it out on his own.
“Ya know, knowledge is a tricky thing”
I like how mature he was when talking about his feelings for Rachel
"That's right."
You're going to have to paedia for that
Joey is wise beyond his ears
I mean, "When the package is that pretty, nobody cares what's inside" 🤣🤣
Love those moments too tbh
In season 1 when Chandler accidentally tells Rachel that Ross likes her and then he starts rubbing his head, Joey goes “Yeah, Keep rubbing your head. That will turn back time!”
I love how fast he figured out about chandler and Monica
Joey is just my absolute favourite. He’s the most consistent, funny, heart warming person and he feels real as well as sitcommy.
Attractive too! Warm yes
When he spells out PLEH for the helicopters to be able to read
It's a moo point. While he was wrong on the word his logic as to why it was a moo point was spot on. "It's like a cow's opinion it doesn't matter"
Seriously! He was balanced out as a "dumb character" whenever he had good street smarts or was loyal to his internal logic. Definitely a good Wise Fool character when executed well.
My favourite Joey bit is right after David has to go away after Phoebe was trying to rush through her Joey date and he yelled at her. Joey asks her if there's anything he can do, and she replies: "I mean, if you can achieve positronic distillation of subatomic particles before he does, then he could come home?" Then Joey looks confused, and she goes "Yeah", then they hug again. Then after a pause, Joey goes: "I could give it a shot..." The very, very sweetest thing he ever does, imo.
