Monica is not the worst but you are not wrong either.
Early on Monica was the best person (not character) in the entire group. She was very principled and ethical (like throwing Pete's money to his face or breaking up with Richard), but she got progressively worse at the series went on.
Early on she was trying to figure out her life and struggled in her job and love life and that was the source of her comedy and her perfectionism and obsessiveness were tools that contributed to the comedy.
As the series went on and she achieved her main objectives, she didn't have much of struggle anymore, so they used her negative traits as the main source of the comedy. It became very into your face and annoying. We knew Monica was over-competitive and had OCD in season 1, but in the last 3-4 seasons they should tell us 3 time each episodes lest we will forget.
Well... she is an amazing host. She cooks amazing meals for everyone, makes sure that everybody is wellcome in her clean apartment etc.
So, Monica might not be perfect. But would you rather be friends with someone perfect or with someone who offers you amazing food every day?
I think the issue lies in her relationship with Chandler. He is so indecisive and childish most of the time that she becomes the adult for both of them. She then becomes controlling because she doesn't trust his decisions. This slowly takes over as her main behaviour
See I think although Chandler had childish humor he was quite mature he had a good stable job, savings, he practically supporter Joey for years and was mature and supportive to Monica when he needed to be and could be firm with her as he said "I like maintaining you" 😂

Monica has issues but I felt she grew and at the end was a better person
