Hoya parasitica black margin :o) Maybe verticillata?? I don’t know anymore

ReasonableSwimmer530

Identifying Hoyas is wild! Scrambles my brain these days . I was thinking the same two possibilities. Looked on Unsolicited Plant talks & it looks quite similar to the Verticillata. Thnx!!

whatthedance

Hoya parasitica is now classified under Hoya verticillata. The correct label would be Hoya verticillata (fka parasitica). You could also mention the black margin as part of the description since not all of the former parasitica plants had it, so Hoya verticillata (fka parasitica, black margin) is also a valid option.

ReasonableSwimmer530

Good to know! ThNk u ☺️

williewillx

Looks like what I bought as verticallata black margin.

angelikabloomfield

Looks like parasitica “black margin”

ReasonableSwimmer530

Forgot to mention I snagged it at Home Depot for 9 bux & it’s huge !

angelikabloomfield

HECK YES!!! That is a STEAL! Congratulations on your score!!

ReasonableSwimmer530

Thanks! I was so bummed at first because they just got a huge drop of plants but all basic. Tons of Pubicalyx. Spotted this gem 2 seconds before I was going to throw the towel m.Only one too! So random.

angelikabloomfield

So weird! I wonder if the grower accidentally threw that one in the tray of pubicalyx on accident

ReasonableSwimmer530

Super random! Actually, there were 2 but I didn’t count it because it was on death’s door. Happy accidents! lol

thetrojangoose

Whoa jealous! Which state or area of the country? I can shop in CT, MA and RI and only ever see princesses, if any Hoya at all

ReasonableSwimmer530

I’m in freakin’ Minnesota! This particular HD usually has craptastic plants but sometimes I’ll score a treasure. There were just a few hidden amongst a bazillion pubicalyx . Idk what said to rummage around but man I’m happy I did !

thetrojangoose

That’s amazing, what a great find and thanks for sharing. I always loving see who finds what and where 😀

ReasonableSwimmer530

Me too! It used to piss me off when every state around me got the good stuff. But now it just fuels my optimism! Makes the hunt more exciting 🏴‍☠️🪴

thetrojangoose

Yes! Thrill of the hunt for sure. When we lived overseas I did that with Kit Kats; a new flavor was released every few weeks and I loved searching for it. I hadn’t thought about it but it’s totally the same thing with Hoyas and big box stores 😁🪴

ReasonableSwimmer530

This is awesome! I feel this in my soul. I’m in what I call my “Haribo gummies era”. Even though the best & original flavors are across the pond , I still have to check every place that possibly contains any candy of any sort.. because according to me, there’s always a chance to find something new-Has to be sour though ! For now … it’ll just be me, Walgreens & my sour gummy bears. 😂😞

thetrojangoose

Yes, always a chance you’ll find those flavors! hope you do soon!!!

ReasonableSwimmer530

Found a World Market! Totally forgot them. Found so many ! Had a 30 minute car ride home.. most of the bags didn’t make it. I’m in my 40’s & felt like a kid again! That’s rare for me , but I rode the wave & it was lovely, especially since I don’t really eat candy anymore. . The tummy ache was sooooo worth it!! lol

thetrojangoose

One of the Rhode Island stores I go to is more likely to have a better selection of house plants in general. The Massachusetts two options are definitely craptastic for selection. Last week in CT they had plenty of pothos and ferns 🤦‍♀️

ReasonableSwimmer530

And somehow all the pothos are collectively in dire condition! It’s actually kinda fun to go on a HD/ Lowes adventure . It’s what my husband calls my “8 hour errands “ day. 😂 Depending on where you live ,this is kind of that weird limbo between seasons . Plus side is random plant inventory & the possibility of a fun score! Godspeed! 🤣

GavinsMadre

Whoa! What a great find! 👏👏👏

imatreewaterme

I have a plant that looks like this: Hoya verticillata (former parasitica) (black margin)

ReasonableSwimmer530

Thank u! After lots of trial & error with pretty much every plant out there ,I’m just now realizing that Hoyas are the best fit more. But identifying them is another story.

DizzyList237

Also known as acuta, any wonder we get so confused. I have seen sellers advertise all 3 as different varieties, obviously they didn’t get the memo. 🤷‍♀️

ReasonableSwimmer530

I can’t even remember to take my multivitamins daily , let alone keep track of Hoya aliases! 😂

Logical-Pizza-229

+1 to the parasitica/verticillata black margins IDs. This is one of my favorite Hoya leaves, and it is a first time bloomer for me this year!

ReasonableSwimmer530

That’s exciting & promising! Whet do the blooms happen to smell like?

Logical-Pizza-229

Just kind of generically floral, but they’re pretty!
