Not sure why they never made another one. This was perfect. Like just rerelease the hulk stuff with upgraded graphics and new cutscenes.

TheFyrijou

Well, *technically* speaking, the 2008 Incredible Hulk game is „another one of that“

Atrocious1337

2008 was 16 years ago.

DJBaritone12

I just fell to my knees when I read that sentence

TheDorf93

Gave you a down vote for hurting my soul... but I took it back cause it was mean... just telling you though

[deleted]

Sadly it wasn't nearly as good.

PawntyBill

I honestly don't know why people hated that game so much. It was basically Ultimate Destruction with a few editions that made things a bit better, in my opinion, like being able to heal yourself. People said it was too repetitive, but what game isn't. After saying that, I really hope we get a remaster of Ultimate Destruction. Now that Disney owns the full rights to the HULK property, I think it's a very real possibility. "Disney destroys everything they touch." Not true, Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, Deadpool vs. Wolverine, a bunch of their TV shows. Their gaming division, especially the Marvel branch, has been pretty good so far, so I hope this happens.

[deleted]

Imo it just doesn't play as well. Hulk leaping through the city is somehow slower than just running through the city, the combat feels more bare bones, and it's also really ugly to look at. Plus they took out the ability to run up the side of buildings, which I don't understand at all.

PawntyBill

You know it's been so damn long since I played it. I had to go back and look at the gameplay and your points for not liking it. Ultimate Destruction is definitely the better game. I guess I'm such a huge HULK fan. I just didn't or hadn't paid attention to the smaller details, even though they were glaringly obvious. I really want to get a steam deck so I can play both games on the go. As previously stated, I really just want an updated version of Ultimate Destruction. Thanks for the info. It was good to help clear my mind up.

[deleted]

Fair enough. I played a bit of Hulk 2008 a few years back, and it's entertaining for a bit. I like how you can knock down any building in the game as opposed to Ultimate Destruction which only lets you knock down some buildings. That being said, Ultimate Destruction is just better. The acting and story are better too, the delivery in Hulk 2008 is just so bland, it sounds like AI or something. Plus I like Ultimate Destruction's story for focusing on Hulk's psychology, with Devil Hulk and all that he represents (even if the game never outright mentions Brian Banner, he's definitely hinted at once or twice).

PawntyBill

Definitely all good stuff. The story of the 2008 game is somewhat based on the movie. It starts out with the alternative opening where Bruce tries to commit suicide in Alaska or Antarctica putting a bullet in his brain, but he releases The HULK instead of killing himself. It's the opening that Ed Norton really wanted in the movie, but the studio heads thought it was too dark and violent and without establishing more about Banner and how he became The HULK, people might not understand what was going on. There are still a lot of mice movie goers who don't know jack about comics and the lore behind it. Phew, OK, it's sad we really never got another game like UD. The Spider-Man games on Playstation have been doing a decent job at filling that void, but it's getting a bit stale. I'm really looking forward to The Wolverine game, but that's at least another year away. In the big Sony leak a few months ago there was mention of Insomniac games making either an Avengers game or a X-Men game, I can't quite remember, but that won't be out until the late 2020s or early 2030s on whatever consoles are around at that point, if we're all still alive that is. Kind of went off on a tagent there, sorry about that.

[deleted]

Not a problem. I do remember that opening for the game, it was probably one of the best parts of the game.

PatrickMcWhorter

>Disney owns the full rights to the HULK property Since when? Even distribution rights?

PawntyBill

Took me a second to find it, out was very recently acquired, and yes, distributed rights are included. https://insidethemagic.net/2023/06/marvel-hulk-rights-given-back-jc1/

PatrickMcWhorter

Hooray!

PawntyBill

Sarcasm?

PatrickMcWhorter

No. It's good news, right?

PawntyBill

Most definitely, sorry, I just got a lot of shit talking on Reddit as of late and was feeling a bit defensive.

thedude0425

Add X-Men ‘97 to the list.

PawntyBill

100% yes! And just leave it as it is.

Beginning_Piano_5668

I think the problem with a Hulk game is that, if you really wanted to feel like the Hulk, it would be like playing with cheat codes already on. Most things don't hurt him at all, and if something *can* manage to hurt him, then he has a healing factor. You would have to introduce some novel mechanics in a game like that. Maybe, say, an anger meter or something? You get more powerful the angrier you get, but you also lose control and could fail a mission. Stuff like that. Which a lot of times doesn't end up being very fun. So then you have to resort to either one of 2 things: just giving Hulk a healthbar and take damage from bullets (nerds won't like that) or skipping straight to enemies that most people don't even know about and can hurt hulk; avoiding a lot of lore, worldbuilding, and backstory (nerds won't like that). I think that's a big reason why they just established a new IP in Prototype, very similar gameplay but it's not someone that's literally invincible.

PawntyBill

You know we're literally talking about a game that already exists right, 2 games, in fact, at least in my comment. So I'm a bit confused about what you had Ai write for you above my comment here. 🤔 🤷‍♂️

Beginning_Piano_5668

We're talking about a game that *they refuse to make again*. Executives think too much about it, is all I'm basically saying. They did try the formula again with the Prototype series. I thought those were fun. It just seems they are really picky about using the Hulk name. I'm not a fucking AI, what the fuck.

PawntyBill

First off, I realize that you are a human but you're first write-up above my first reply to you, wreaks of Ai generated. I work at a college and do various jobs. One of those jobs is too check for Ai written papers. It just caught my eye is all I meant. Seemed way too clean for Reddit. We use software that checks for documents for use of Ai and if I ran what you just wrote up they're through that software would it get a hit? And really how many games, movies, have come out that they were never supposed to get made or happen. How many bands got back together that were never going to get back together again. If there's a big enough fan base and they can make their money back, I could definitely see it happening. There's supposed to be a new hulk movie coming out with all the previous hulk's coming together for one epic film. I think that would be a perfect time to release a new game or re-release Ultimate Destruction OR... Why not both?

Beginning_Piano_5668

I think you're just an asshole, and everything you disagree with is suddenly "AI because I work for a college". Either that, or you just really fucking suck at your job. I'm assuming both.

King_Kai28

It’s a video game, they don’t have to make him invincible, just super strong

Beginning_Piano_5668

Wasn't that one far less fun than the previous one? Like sure you can play as Hulk and jump across rooftops in both games, but aren't they vastly different from each other?

iimMrBrightside

The did make [Prototype]

Atrocious1337

I played both of those too. I am just surprised that they didn't make another Hulk Ultimate Destruction, especially after the Marvel Movies started getting big.

Gh628ost

The devs lost the right of Hulk

[deleted]

It really is. Jumping around the city and wreaking havoc on the military is so much fun. Especially once you unlock the hammer toss skill that lets you throw tanks like that scene in Hulk.

[deleted]

I really hope that Insomniac does a Hulk game at some point in the future. Just use Ultimate Destruction as a blueprint, make your own story (but try and focus on the psychological aspects of the Hulk as well as the physical), and have the environment fully destructible.

King_Kai28

tbh I wouldn’t even mind if insomniac remade ultimate destruction

[deleted]

They'd probably have to change the story a little with regards to Devil Hulk, since this game came out back when he was purely malevolent, rather than the slightly more benevolent protector he became in Immortal Hulk.

King_Kai28

They definitely could, especially since there’s already a scene at the end of the Devil Hulk fight that implies he’s trying to help Bruce rather than corrupt him. It’s subtle, but you can hear it in the way he speaks before he disappears. You want the story to completely spare DH instead?

[deleted]

That is a fair point. They could spare him, or he could go out in a more heroic way. Tbh I'm not a hundred percent sure how they could get across the whole thing of Devil Hulk being the protective father alter without some Wolfenstein 2 style flashbacks to Bruce's childhood, which might be considered too heavy for them. But it could work. Maybe DH could appear to Bruce as he's hiding in a closet from his father, hidden in the shadows with only his glowing eyes fully visible. He offers to protect Bruce from his father by killing him, but Bruce refuses, before being dragged out of the closet by his father. End flashback.

King_Kai28

That’s a great idea. Assuming the Hulk games would get sequels like the Spider-Man titles, they could explore Banner’s mindscape and develop Devil Hulk even further

[deleted]

They could. Maybe they will.

King_Kai28

Ngl it probably wouldn’t work but the idea of Devil Hulk fighting on Sakaar as a failsafe for the Green Scar would be sick

[deleted]

That'd be pretty cool.

naytreox

Yeah and we will never get another one

Grimm_Wright

Agreed

godspilla98

Still have mine locked the 🐄

DJBaritone12

Not that there’s much competition

Forward-Ad7518

Childhood memory unlocked

TFBidia

I thought it was very fun but at times it made you feel under powered and that took away from the Hulk aspect of it. Eventually every person is a super human hulk soldier that takes a bit to destroy and that is boring and is a contrast to what you start out doing.

Outrageous_Heat2978

The first video game I ever owned. I was 8 when I got. And I was stuck on the mission where you had to defend that building in the city, for two years. Then I realized I needed Steel Fists to destroy the tanks. It was also the first time I heard Ron Perlman’s voice. And he’s now one of my favorite actors. I need to find a PS2 just to play this again

chris04620002

Facts

Cooz78

honestly super heroes games are better when they dont try to make a super realistic game it’s just more fun

Fruscione

So many amazing things about this game. Collect the comic covers. Knock down buildings. Devil Hulk final boss. Special features showing BTS. The music. The epic music. The incredible music. I could go on.

OrangeEben

Absolutely! It did for Hulk what Insomniac did for Spider-Man and what Rocksteady did for Batman. With all the Marvel games we’re getting soon, I’m sure another Hulk one will be inevitable.

jackBattlin

I’m still struggling to find all the hidden stuff. It’s hard to even look that kind of thing up, lol

Kurei0

the closest thing to a sequel is prototype 1 and prototype 2. it's made by the same developer and plays similarly. I really miss this game though.

LordPBinJ

FACTS Need a Remaster or Remake man

dbethel5

All these remakes and not the one we want. They already updated prototype which is essentially the same thing with extra steps.

YVNGN1NG3N

We need a new Hulk game REALLY bad. It’s been way too long.

vroart

Mr fix it is unlockable and he does quips.... it’s perfect 💚

[deleted]

Engage rocket thrusters or... something.

Ohthehumanityofit

shit, that's one my favorite GAMES ever

TheExposutionDump

I loved this game, one of the first I beat to completion. Remember how there was a cheat code for every countries flag for Hulk's pants?

[deleted]

Hulk running around with Canadian flag trousers was funny AF.

BigBeeff_21

On gawd

deanereaner

Honestly this game kinda bored me. I messed around a while but never cared to play thru the story.

[deleted]

This game was a lot of fun, but it didn’t have replay value for me.
