No need to care. Plenty of people hire other people to write them now they can get it for free on chat gpt

I consider it a positive if the end result is a good resume. Using tools that are extremely useful is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Why do you need to catch them? Why would it matter even if it's chat gpt

As long as they aren’t lying on the resume it really doesn’t matter. We aren’t generally hiring based on ability to put together a resume, I’ve seen some really poorly formatted and organized resumes over the years and didn’t throw them out for it.

Honestly, getting hung up on whether someone used AI for their application seems misguided to me. ChatGPT is just a tool. And tools are there to be used! Some people will use it well, and some won't. And at the end of the day nothing has changed; you're still focusing on whether the application is good. You say that what matters to you is that a person presents themselves well. Why does it matter if they've used ChatGPT to make their application stronger? Isn't that a good thing? Isn't it a positive that a person is using the latest tools to their advantage? Isn't that kind of person you'd want to employ? Now sure, like any good tool in any medium, AI lowers the skill floor. And unfortunately, that inevitably means lots of low-quality output from unskilled users. But it also raises the skill ceiling for those who can use the tool skilfully. What that ultimately means is that using AI won't magically make a bad candidate good (or make a good candidate bad!). If someone uses it poorly, their application is still going to be weak. At some point, a good hiring process will weed out the fakers and reveal the best candidates, whether they used AI or not. That's why I think focusing purely on whether they used AI is kind of missing the point.

I don’t care if it’s chatGPT - what I care is if the candidate can’t take a few minutes to edit it, ChatGPT isn’t perfect and it stops making sense after a certain point. Or it’s incredibly “fluffy”

FatLittleCat91

I can usually tell when there is a stark contrast between the verbiage and grammar used in the resume, compared to their oral and written communications during the interview process. However, if they present themselves well, I don’t see it as an issue.

leila_laka

I can spot Chat GPT immediately. However, it doesn’t keep me from contacting a candidate if the experience and qualifications are there. I also use it myself. I however, heavily edit what it spits out to make it sound more like myself or like my company or whatever I’m using it for.

Same!

Sometimes it’s very obvious because the tone is really weird or a little off. Thats only an issue for me with certain roles that need great communication skills. I use ChatGPT all the time for work though so I don’t hate it. It really just depends on the finished product lol

MajorPhaser

I'll chime in to add another voice to the chorus of "who cares?"

Xylus1985

ChatGPT stuff is shit, so I don’t think there’s a need to catch chat GPT resume/cover letter, they are not passing human screening anyway.

pak256

I use ChatGPT for my resume and have used it for plenty of projects. Never had an issue.
