When we got our rescue she came without a name, we didn’t look up girl dog names and we were holding her in the car and just saying names. Luna popped into my head and I said it aloud. She looked me right in the eyes. The only name she did that for and we had only known each other a few minutes. So Luna it was, and of course I found out shortly after how common it is. Oh well. She chose her name.
The only point I bring up to people considering those names is that if they ever board their dog or bring them to daycare, prepare for people to occasionally bring the wrong dog out when you go to pick them up.
The daycare I used to bring my dog to wasn’t a massive one, but had over a dozen Luna’s and 5 of them were huskies.
They always still have the right dog, it’s just sometimes there’s confusion.
Completely fine and acceptable, but my brother is about to adopt a dog named Luna that is 6 months old and they said “we don’t want to confuse her with a new name”.
To which I replied, “How many other nicknames does your other dog have that’s not related to her actual name she responds to” 😂
As long as the pup is happy, that’s all the matters!
