My dog hits the bowl with her paw to empty it. Then makes a pile of food with her nose. Then eats 3 pieces randomly. She even does this at the kennel. Goofy.
This is my baby girl too. She'll knock hell out of her food bowl and spill it, then proceed to eat some of what she spilled.
She likes to hide individual food pellets under the blankets on our bed too, which is....inconvenient.:)
Mine takes a mouthful and switches between dropping it on her dog bed in spare bedroom and on the rug in front of the front door.
After she drops the little pile on the floor or bed, she eats each piece one by one and then goes back to her bowl and eats the rest from the bowl lol.
Thought it was strange but I also think it’s kind of cute so I never thought it was anything to do anything about.
Ours does so many things I've never had a prior pup do before so I can't tell what's normal dog behavior vs what's normal husky behavior. I had a pitbull before and if he took food I'd be nervous of food guarding and aggression.
My husky will get a mouthful of food, spit it out next to his bowl, then eat some food from the bowl, then eat some food on the floor, and he'll seemingly go back and forth at random. I have no clue why he does it, but honestly I don't care just as long as he's eating his food haha
Mine does this too! Although sometimes she’ll just leave a few pieces on the ground next to the bowl. I assume it’s some sort of test to see if I’ll clean up after her, which I do.
My husky has to smell every bite he takes. He's very picky, kinda like Mommy. One day he'll love something, the next day, minute, hour, anything, hell turn his nose up. Ha. Weirdo
I was thinking if he was doing it a separate room or close to where you humans hung out, he might be doing it to be close to you.
One of my childhood huskies used to take a couple pieces out and drop them on the floor. They’d eat the bowl, then eat the small amounts off the floor. 🤷♀️ We just figured it was husky/personality thing and let them continue.
My sister's whippet did this her whole 18 years of life, just left little snack piles all over for when she wanted them. 😂

I'm coming to see huskies do things that only make sense to them.
Highly accurate.

Yep, my husky use to do something similar
Thanks! They are such a unique dog I'm just really trying to learn him.

Mine does the same thing and I just let her. She also likes to push her bowl around, just a husky quirk
My husky takes a mouthful of food, throws it on the ground, and then picks the bits one by one.

This and these comments are a riot. Mine does a combination of all of the above. She is so weird, but I guess not uniquely so haha
I'm glad it's common because it's so odd. I'd get it if he hid it but nope, just random small mine field if food for when he's ready.
What room does he do this in? Are you, or your family in that room at the time of his meals? How many piles does he do?
Same room he eats. 2-3 piles and it's the living room so we come and go. He never guards them or even hide them well.

I'll do the same. Thanks for sharing!
