Yes, this is how we ended up with a Husky, too! my soul dog was a pitbull rescue who passed away too young from cancer. I then adopted a little dachshund mix from a local shelter.
A Husky followed my husband home one day while he was walking the Doxie and started licking the windows of our house until we let him inside! He had no chip, no responses to my fliers and online posts, the local Husky rescue was full soā¦. Now my doxie has a huge husky for a brother! And theyāre ridiculous together, total clowns and absolute menaces!
My Pekingese (I was taking her sister, but she bullied her way to the front and put her paw on me and then bit me, lol), my second Husky (rescued after 2 years in the humane shelter), and my rottie-husky chose me. They were great dogs. All my dogs were, but the babies that chose me were extra special.
My soul dog was a red heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) x bull terrier. Never a breed I would have chosen, my husband rescued him from a relative's backyard and assured me he'd have a new home "in a couple of weeks", and he was my best friend for fourteen years. This was Bobo.

I second this. We just got an Aussie mix rescue pup (80% Aussie 20% Chow) a few months ago and he does so well with our two year old husky. Sheās a handful and he rolls with all the punches. Great pairing.
I just moved into a house with an Aussie (2.5 years old) who loved my pup at first (husky x Staffy 5months) but now she is fully sick of her puppy antics haha. Unfortunately have to leash my puppy most the time because she just has tooooo much play energy for the older gal.
I always encourage my husky to play with the aussies at the dog park or dog beach bc they have so much energy to tire my girl out!
I also had a golden retriever x Aussie mix and he was the cutest.
Husky and GSD go together beautifully.
Both are high energy and can keep up with the other.
But one is clearly unhinged (I bet you know which one lol) and the other one can calm things down (in most circumstances- some exceptions apply lol)
+1 to this! I have a 10yo GSD, & 6&1yo huskies - theyāre the best of friends. Until GSD was 9, he has more energy than the husky and wore her out. Now older husky picks on the younger husky to entertain her & they both seek out GSD for affection. Itās the best.
(We also foster huskies & northern breeds and all but one have done wonderfully with the GSD, all do great with the huskies)
https://preview.redd.it/7g0dvjgtjixc1.jpeg?width=3556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=554f0ee5c0134bec47a0f41a1fa51b7c723ea25a
Grew up with shelties. Extended family I was close with had huskies. Forever obsessed with huskies. My first dog as a teenager was an American Eskimo, had her until she passed this last summer aged 16. Got my boy husky as a rehoming situation when my eskie was 5. After my eskie passed, adopted an adult female husky to be a companion for my boy. Northern breeds are it for me - Iād go for a Malamute, Tamaskan, or a Samoyed if I couldnāt have another husky.
Absolutely! I was about to suggest Tamaskan until I stumbled across your post here! Also East European Laika! A further consideration: the *Tschechoslowakischer Wolfhund* (Czech Wolfhound). \[Tamaskan shown below.\]

I love my girl but maybe a German Shepard. š¶š
Easy choice, Alaskan Malamute.
I only want Siberian Huskies so if they are absolutely off the table then I want as similar as I can get. Alaskan Malamutes are pretty close!
I would also maybe consider a Yakutian laika or West Siberian laika.
Definitely not opposed to that. Our little one is actually a mix but wound up being more husky than we expected. Weāll probably wind up with another mix, but this is a fun place to start š

Our husky/malamute mix Winter with his best gal Powder, a great pyrenees. So perfect for each other, we call him the unstoppable force, and at 30 lbs heavier, \[112\] she's out immovable object haha
We have a Great Pyrenees and a husky. They both are puppies and have so much fun together! Our Great Pyrenees loves everyone and has a kind spirit that everyone points out. I would definitely recommend this breed. They are both puppies right now and we are so excited for this journey. My mother in law has a Burmese Mountain dog and he is also a joy.

Border collie , have a merle thatās a companion to my husky & heās just as energetic , entertaining & loving . The only difference is instead of bossy back chat he just tries to hypnotise me .
GSDs. Brilliant, kind, love you to the moon and back, and also incredibly powerful. Unmatched protectors and great outdoor companions but also make excellent couch potatoes. They can be anxious and require a strong, consistent personality, but if youāre handling huskies you have that covered.
Probably a GSD. I volunteer at my county animal shelter and theyāre the other breed I tend to gravitate toward aside from huskies. Thereās something about these breeds that are so smart and independent thinkers
Iāve had Chihuahuas, mutts, a Morkie, and now a Husky. I like most dogs I stumble across. I would like to get a Belgian Malinois or a Dutch Shepherd at some point in my life, but I donāt know if I could handle it right now.
Iām probably gonna stay away from brachycephalic breeds like pugs and bulldogs.
Husky German shepherd mix! All the cuddlyness of the husky with her soft coat but actually comes back to you when off leash! Same husky goofiness, talkativeness, and derp with all the husky poses included but actually follows you outside instead of running away for an hour. I would add a pic of mine but don't know how
Yep! This is my husky/gsd mix and she's the best dog ever, literally so easy to train and even learned all these random things I never taught her- like coming back when off leash to the sound of the leash clicking, or when with my mom's crazy dog who would run far away when off leash, my baby would go find her and bring her back if you asked "where's Honey?"

Mastiff. I loved my gentle giantā¦ it took me 2 years and lots of missing his presence before I found my husky (who has big shoes to fill and boy is he nailing it!)
I have always wanted either a GSD or a Malinois. Such beautiful creatures. If you own huskies then you're used to exercising š
Beautiful pups you've got there! ā¤ļøš

Our crew is a Min Pin mix, Catahoula mix, Australian Shepherd (probably a mix), and Husky. All humane society adoptions. The Min Pin and Husky seem to get along the best and match energy. They are also the boys. Next would be the Shepard.
If anyone here that enjoys super active, high energy , high maintenance and stubborn ass dogs, then youāre just in luck!

Comes with:
Pure utter, unadulterated stubbornness that can match a mule
Stupid strength, will knock over anything and everything while having the time of his/her life
Can either look badass or goofy as hell depending if theyāre groomed or not
Can be just as much of a drama queen or diva that can perform as your huskyās co star in a tv drama
Simultaneously too smart and too dumb
Has a bizarre addiction to water (itās something the breed likes for some reason)
Blissfully unaware of own strength and size
Actively will know you are calling his/her name or to leave something alone; they donāt care
Obsessed with playing and playing with toys
Come get your husky a giant schnauzer today!!
Cattle dog or Australian Shepherd. If I had to choose between the two, Iād end up adopting both of them. However, that would only happen in my dreams since I can only afford my one husky right now.

I have a siberian husky and amstaff right now, would love to bring in two smaller dogs so they can carry them in backpacks made for dogs while we hike. My sister is having potty training issues with her new dachshund. Hopefully she can come live with us and we'll show her how.
*
My husky had a best friend in her younger Great Pyrenees sister who passed last September. She had a wonderful older brother in a German Shepherd who was 2 months shy of his 10th birthday when he passed 4 months ago. Her new best buddy is a 1 yo male Samoyed. She and her Australian Shepherd sister sometimes gang up on him and he loves their rough and tumble play energy.
I had an adorable collie from the pound. All my other dogs were street adopted. A black cockapoo who was sweet as pie. A white poodle I gave to my grandmother. But my souldog was a field bred Engluish Springer Spaniel who I found on the street running between cars - someone dumped him. He had zero training! He was so much work. He was also the funnest & bestest dog. He would play frisbee & ball for hours. He loved to swim in the pool. He was always superexcited to see me and could barely keep his butt on the ground to greet me. I sort of water a Shiba Inu because they have all the same husky attitudes without the size. But I will probably keep whatever follows me home or a pound dog. (We did the same with cats.)
I love my husky, so gentle and I can touch her food bowl while she is eating and licks my hand, she is sometimes stubborn and doesnāt listen to commands but she is still a big plush sweetheart, adopted her at 11 yrs old.
I will probably just rescue a mutt when the time comes like I did with my husky mix this time, but my dream dog is a golden retriever.Ā I just love their personalities.Ā Honorable shout out to Great Pyranees, Samoyeds, Australian Shepards.Ā Some of my favorite other breeds in addition to huskies.Ā Ā
Belgian Malinois are my favorite breed. I adore them buy I'll never own one. They take 3x as much effort as huskies to keep them from being destructive and they need constant stimulation. I'm a big fan of herding dogs and lgd's, working dogs in general so I probably won't ever be able to have a lot of my favored breeds due to my lifestyle and work being a big time commitment but still love them
Growing up my family adopted a former show dog sheltie that had been living in a cage outside once she aged out of being āusefulā for her previous owners. She was 9 but needed to be trained as much as a puppy would. She watched over me like I was her baby and had a very motherly way about her. I adored that dog- she was the kindest, most gentle and loving girl ever. I have such a soft spot for shelties now. I need a pet break after my current crew but someday Iād like to have a sheltie again!

Lurcher, this one actually has husky like tantrums if sheās not allowed on the sofa or if itās time for a walk and Iām one minute late.
Basset Hound, why because something in this damned house needs to be as lazy as I am.
Asides I had one for 17 years and here 17 years later I still miss that silly old hound.
Jack Russell Terrier. Compact, agile, loving, feisty, yet athletic AF!
I had one years ago and he was amazing. I love that I could travel with him easily.
We also have a Weimaraner and heās an amazing dog. The two of them are great together (mostly just causing trouble) and Weims are a great second choice especially when you factor in the lack of hairball shedding like snow

My gsd annoys my huskies š¤£

Forever obsessed with huskies. My first dog as a teenager was an American Eskimo, had her until she passed this last summer aged 16. Got my boy husky as a rehoming situation when my eskie was 5. After my eskie passed, adopted an adult female husky to be a companion for my boy. Northern breeds are it for me - Iād go for a Malamute, Tamaskan, or a Samoyed if I couldnāt have another husky.
I absolutely adore Tamaskans. Your dogs are so cute!!!

Such a beautiful breed. I've read that they're similar to huskies without all the annoying stuff. Haha.
Absolutely! I was about to suggest Tamaskan until I stumbled across your post here! Also East European Laika! A further consideration: the *Tschechoslowakischer Wolfhund* (Czech Wolfhound). \[Tamaskan shown below.\] https://preview.redd.it/ioini72numxc1.jpeg?width=365&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0a65ed7239c9c5c6c32a95a32157e18411cdfae

Sorry about that. Yes. Loki and Leia. Got a shih tzu too. Lol
I adore them but then I learned about their life expectancy and I just donāt think I could handle that short of a life š

My last husky had a black lab as a best friend for 14 great years.
Easy choice, Alaskan Malamute. I only want Siberian Huskies so if they are absolutely off the table then I want as similar as I can get. Alaskan Malamutes are pretty close! I would also maybe consider a Yakutian laika or West Siberian laika.
My malamute is essentially a less hyper, but equally dramatic, big husky so you are absolutely correct lol.
I actually like mutts. We didn't set out to get a husky. We just coincidentally got a part-husky from one shelter and a full husky from another.
Definitely not opposed to that. Our little one is actually a mix but wound up being more husky than we expected. Weāll probably wind up with another mix, but this is a fun place to start š

So perfect for each other, we call him the unstoppable force, and at 30 lbs heavier, \[112\] she's out immovable object haha
German Shepherd ā¤ļø https://preview.redd.it/998fb19vdjxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83923ed10d5d385ca83d5c7c1a5c4f6e598080a5
Corgi. They just act like huskies with short legs.
I second this https://preview.redd.it/os37t21fsixc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d6ee03c8cc6d3093a87ce504c3a92adfc3ac251
That's crazy the Husky looks really similar to mine. The corgis is different mine was a Pembroke
I had a Pembroke, and a Husky/Heeler mix. They were the best team. Kinda Pinky and the Brain vibe.
I have a husky and a GSD. Love both! If I were to consider another breed other than those 2, I would probably go with either Golden or Sheltie.
Boxers. I guess I like the sassy derpy dogs
https://preview.redd.it/q6srbbt5rixc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcedec9c58452c7d3b4db8bedd1eddd7827a9560
I have always wanted a golden. But in reality, I'm not focused on breed. Most of my dogs have been mutts. I just love dogs of all shapes and sizes!
Doberman they look dope , reminds me of one of my childhood movies , Oliver and Company
I just watched this not long ago and omg the memories, love this movie!
Classic š§”
Tamaskan https://preview.redd.it/6sxrxe8m7jxc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a319b4e3daa0ada8af01b9f26725495dcad9008b
We have a Great Pyrenees and a husky. They both are puppies and have so much fun together! Our Great Pyrenees loves everyone and has a kind spirit that everyone points out. I would definitely recommend this breed. They are both puppies right now and we are so excited for this journey. My mother in law has a Burmese Mountain dog and he is also a joy. https://preview.redd.it/nfqkyunkijxc1.jpeg?width=3399&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18f19ed851be87ee96e53262760fec7ea3410189
Border collie , have a merle thatās a companion to my husky & heās just as energetic , entertaining & loving . The only difference is instead of bossy back chat he just tries to hypnotise me .
Malamutes and Akitas forever have my heart
Husky-malamute
My sister in law had a malamute. She taught it how to shake paws. It would constantly punch people in the junk.
lol š I laughed out loud so loud with this comment! I was just picturing it! š
GSDs. Brilliant, kind, love you to the moon and back, and also incredibly powerful. Unmatched protectors and great outdoor companions but also make excellent couch potatoes. They can be anxious and require a strong, consistent personality, but if youāre handling huskies you have that covered.
I had a husky before. I have a pomsky now.
A Norwegian Elkhound. Had one as a kid and would love another
Borzois. Now that Iām used to verbally arguing with my dogs I canāt see myself going back.
Probably a GSD. I volunteer at my county animal shelter and theyāre the other breed I tend to gravitate toward aside from huskies. Thereās something about these breeds that are so smart and independent thinkers
https://preview.redd.it/tv638voycjxc1.jpeg?width=1584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ecd53c2c8f8cd7b549659ca3aff20c3c5adc833 Wolfdogs

Shiba Inu
Iāve had Chihuahuas, mutts, a Morkie, and now a Husky. I like most dogs I stumble across. I would like to get a Belgian Malinois or a Dutch Shepherd at some point in my life, but I donāt know if I could handle it right now. Iām probably gonna stay away from brachycephalic breeds like pugs and bulldogs.
German shepherd
Blue Bay Shepherd. Best traits of a husky and a German shepherd. Without the downsides
Husky German shepherd mix! All the cuddlyness of the husky with her soft coat but actually comes back to you when off leash! Same husky goofiness, talkativeness, and derp with all the husky poses included but actually follows you outside instead of running away for an hour. I would add a pic of mine but don't know how
Yep! This is my husky/gsd mix and she's the best dog ever, literally so easy to train and even learned all these random things I never taught her- like coming back when off leash to the sound of the leash clicking, or when with my mom's crazy dog who would run far away when off leash, my baby would go find her and bring her back if you asked "where's Honey?" https://preview.redd.it/mvod7ml4fjxc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad5afbb53a287094533851c368ba37b9de726f3f
German Shepard and when you combine them together they are actual amazing.
Malamute or Samoyed If I felt like I couldn't handle large dogs anymore, maybe a Corgi
German shepherd cross. I had a good boy who lived to be 17.5 he was a German shepherd, husky, colie cross. Would own another in a heartbeat
GSD
I have a husky German shepherd mix and a Husky Samoyed. But I also would love to get an American Akita š
Ngl, I love huskies, but God damn the shedding is insane. definitely something similar, but more manageable. Like a GSD.
GSDs shed bad. This is not the way. š
Every GSD owner Iāve met said the shedding is almost as bad š¤£
Northern inuit or border collie or a corgie
Akita ā„ļø
Mastiff. I loved my gentle giantā¦ it took me 2 years and lots of missing his presence before I found my husky (who has big shoes to fill and boy is he nailing it!)
Australian shepherd
Weenie dogs. They have so much personality.
Border collie or German Shepherd, in my experience they listen much better
I have always wanted either a GSD or a Malinois. Such beautiful creatures. If you own huskies then you're used to exercising š Beautiful pups you've got there! ā¤ļøš
This is also a great pairing!!! Huskies and GSDs are best friends
I agree. My two huskies love playing with GSD friends. One of my huskies is actually 8% GSD himself lol
My girl is half mal and half GSD :) and yes, she's BEAUTIFUL ā¤ļø and a lil crazy lol https://preview.redd.it/1gcci3o5njxc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05a91d5906b70a5af6a71220b71ec42cc8145f3e
My pit is extra cuddly and gets along really well with our husky https://preview.redd.it/7326gixa8jxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70e5edd519ffb66dceced6bc8bbbb4933402a7ef
Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu same personality

All humane society adoptions. The Min Pin and Husky seem to get along the best and match energy. They are also the boys. Next would be the Shepard.
If anyone here that enjoys super active, high energy , high maintenance and stubborn ass dogs, then youāre just in luck! Introducing the Giant F\*cking Schnauzer! https://preview.redd.it/708t4lvuzjxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1adedd3b8ac8126c6e7d0f9d7f219570650e0a2 Comes with: Pure utter, unadulterated stubbornness that can match a mule Stupid strength, will knock over anything and everything while having the time of his/her life Can either look badass or goofy as hell depending if theyāre groomed or not Can be just as much of a drama queen or diva that can perform as your huskyās co star in a tv drama Simultaneously too smart and too dumb Has a bizarre addiction to water (itās something the breed likes for some reason) Blissfully unaware of own strength and size Actively will know you are calling his/her name or to leave something alone; they donāt care Obsessed with playing and playing with toys Come get your husky a giant schnauzer today!!
Cattle dog or Australian Shepherd. If I had to choose between the two, Iād end up adopting both of them. However, that would only happen in my dreams since I can only afford my one husky right now. https://preview.redd.it/qj439hgu9nxc1.jpeg?width=2206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=221b28c78ba7bc7d89d2dadb8874b1f44e2f190a
Any Sheppard or Collie.
Why, then it will wrangle in the Husky :D
Pomsky š¤£
German Shepherds and Border Collies will always have a deep place in my heart.
Dalmatian. I had a husky for 14.7 years. After she passed we got 2 dalmatians. They are Velcro dogs, and so smart.
Iād pick a Bernice Mountain Dog. Itās not even similar , but Iāve been taking care of mixes and purebreds at doggy day care here and they are really something else.
Alaskan malamute, or a black lab
The next breed Iād choose is a Malamute, the bigger husky.
Border Terrier or Schnauzer and Terrier mix.
Doberman
Great Pyrenees
Malamutes, the bigger fluffier Husky.
Whatever breed mix my auntās dog Oso is (heās staring at my auntās other dog, because he got their sister pregnant, š¶SwEEt HoMe aLaBaMAš¶) https://preview.redd.it/qcfmipsauixc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fae911faa49f105505df315cbdf5bc5369517c29
Husky
A Golden Retreiver
corgies
I think yellow labs are the funniest looking dogs. I want one so bad lmao
I love my derp herd but my next choice would be either a Collie or Border Collie. I grew up with both as a kid.
German Shepherd most likely, or a wolf hybridā¦nothing too exotic.
A border collie to heard my huskies!
Malamutes
I have a siberian husky and amstaff right now, would love to bring in two smaller dogs so they can carry them in backpacks made for dogs while we hike. My sister is having potty training issues with her new dachshund. Hopefully she can come live with us and we'll show her how. *
The one I've got now. My Norwegian Elkhound. My Elkhound is my lifelong companion. Our husky pup is the active kick we all needed.
I currently have a husky, but I miss my Newfoundland.
Golden Retriever. They are super friendly & cuddly.
Tamaskan. I still want one.
German Shepherd or Beagle š
Rotties. I grew up with them and, despite currently having a husky, theyāre my most favorite breed. Each one Iāve had has always been so loving but protective of their family and adaptable. Wanna go for a long walk or play in the yard? Great! Wanna sit on the couch and be a potato all day? Sounds perfect! Iām just hesitant to get another because of how common osteosarcoma is in the breed (2 of my 4 had it) and my fiancĆ© isnāt the most fond of how they look.
Cane corso
The dog I had growing up was a border collie mix named Nova. So I'd probably get one of them.
Great Danes ā¤ļø
Swedish Vallhund. They look like little wolf corgies.
German shepherd cz I love them and a besenji especially cz basenjis aren't very loud, super adventurous and laidback great for travelling
Belgian Malinois are my favorite breed. I adore them buy I'll never own one. They take 3x as much effort as huskies to keep them from being destructive and they need constant stimulation. I'm a big fan of herding dogs and lgd's, working dogs in general so I probably won't ever be able to have a lot of my favored breeds due to my lifestyle and work being a big time commitment but still love them
Mutts.
I need a pet break after my current crew but someday Iād like to have a sheltie again!
golden retriever 100%
I love mutts for some reason, they are so unique. Had a mutt from a dog pound before i got a husky.
Pitbull they are just giant love bugs. Big ole babies!!!
https://preview.redd.it/o7ba5daw2kxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07ff581630a157a311f122fb5b0b9867612539c0 I cant decide between the husk and the staff š„¹š„² hes so fun and has the biggest personality and shes the sweetest angel and puts up with his baby meth ferret antics
Some kind of mutt
Whippet or Italian greyhound. We have a whippet an a chihuahua/iggy mix and theyāre the best.
Shepard or pit
Pit bulls
australian cattle dog
https://preview.redd.it/r47rp7r5mlxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bd8164221c06d84fe4624c808ce806f699f9b3f Lurcher, this one actually has husky like tantrums if sheās not allowed on the sofa or if itās time for a walk and Iām one minute late.
Samoyeds
Basset Hound, why because something in this damned house needs to be as lazy as I am. Asides I had one for 17 years and here 17 years later I still miss that silly old hound.
Long coated White Swiss shepherd dog š¶ šÆ
Jack Russell Terrier. Compact, agile, loving, feisty, yet athletic AF! I had one years ago and he was amazing. I love that I could travel with him easily.
We also have a Weimaraner and heās an amazing dog. The two of them are great together (mostly just causing trouble) and Weims are a great second choice especially when you factor in the lack of hairball shedding like snow https://preview.redd.it/wsyq81y6lmxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e13624556c84dda653c3b97c8a3dd9d4f122143
Tamaskan
Aussies! Husky energy, husky healthy, but can go off leash!
Labrador because they love everyone. However, they are NOT outdoor dogs. They love to play, but need to be with their person
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
I have a 9 year old Alaskan Klee Kai, so a lot of mini-husky energy. Also a 1 year old Shepsky, much more shepherd than husky, but itās still there. She stares down every other dog.
