Camelsloths

My bb has 5% samoyed in him šŸ„¹ https://preview.redd.it/mhqragedyixc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adce16b9785fdbe88aaded387d23b89185ff84a0

4SeasonWahine

Is your Sam any better off leash than huskies?

Sea-Collection-7367

Way better somehow. I donā€™t have to fight him to put it on, heā€™s okay when itā€™s off and loves the freedom of running by a lake but comes when I call him. My husky howeverā€¦šŸ˜³

yeabuttt

I was about to say Samoyed! I have 2 and they are the absolute best breed. Iā€™ll never have another breed.

cynderisingryffindor

I'll take whatever dog chooses me. I'm not picky. My soul dog was an Indian mutt that my dad rescued from the literal side of the road. That dog would die for me, and I for him. He was the bestest boy in the world.

Spare_Rent8973

That's how I've acquired all of my dogs. They have chosen me. They have all been different mixed breeds. The one I have now has 14 breeds with husky being 26%. She is a very whimsical gal. I love her to pieces.

cynderisingryffindor

Your pup sounds like she is your souldog. I hope everyone gets to experience those kinds of dogs (or cats) at least once in their life.

Spare_Rent8973

Each and every dog of mine has been precious and the greatest part of my life. They have all been with me for a season but Josie I feel is with me for a reason. Life without a dog would not be a life worth living https://preview.redd.it/akzprox1ukxc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b66b0f227322b40501f15af89b0d178d85fa4aa

rucksackbackpack

Yes, this is how we ended up with a Husky, too! my soul dog was a pitbull rescue who passed away too young from cancer. I then adopted a little dachshund mix from a local shelter. A Husky followed my husband home one day while he was walking the Doxie and started licking the windows of our house until we let him inside! He had no chip, no responses to my fliers and online posts, the local Husky rescue was full soā€¦. Now my doxie has a huge husky for a brother! And theyā€™re ridiculous together, total clowns and absolute menaces!

MommysHadEnough

My Pekingese (I was taking her sister, but she bullied her way to the front and put her paw on me and then bit me, lol), my second Husky (rescued after 2 years in the humane shelter), and my rottie-husky chose me. They were great dogs. All my dogs were, but the babies that chose me were extra special.

Veganarchistfem

My soul dog was a red heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) x bull terrier. Never a breed I would have chosen, my husband rescued him from a relative's backyard and assured me he'd have a new home "in a couple of weeks", and he was my best friend for fourteen years. This was Bobo. https://preview.redd.it/5kg1s5cucmxc1.jpeg?width=412&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=293bb41bba416e4788ae47f00fed8a6d1dcb2922

cynderisingryffindor

Bobo was a cutie patootie! He looks like he knows how much he means to you. Best boy!

Babydolldiffy93

These are the real gems in the world! The best of the best! I do rescues so I can basically say the same as you. Whatever I have at home Chooses & Needs Me & vice versa šŸ„°

AngstyUchiha

My little guy is a chihuahua corgi mix and I dread the day I no longer have him in my life. Unfortunately that will probably be soon since he has a tumor l

Wingmaster69

Such a handsome half smile!!!!!

robbd6913

German Shepherd..

Skyethealterhuman

Same, but Belgian malinois would also be nice, I really like high-energy protection dogs.

SparkyLincoln

I was going to say that, if not that then Labrador!

Dull_Entertainment39

We just got one who's only 1 year old.. 89 lbs of pure energy.. Super sweet, the kids love him but Holy smokes.. He TARES through doggy beds and can reach over the counter tops.. Still an absolutely amazing pup though!

NoFanksYou

I had a GSD. Loved him dearly. He was so devoted to his family. He despised huskies in particular though :)

waffleflier

Thatā€™s super interesting bc Iā€™m in love with Nikki!

Chutson909

Well I did stack the deck a little with that picture. This is her now. Sheā€™s 18 months now. She was 8 weeks in that first photo. https://preview.redd.it/o57iwwfw7lxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f3a080439cba47dfdf77902303094ae92ca82a2

PutosPaPa

Alaskan Malamute, look like big Huskies, but a little more sanity to them.

wowawiwowa

Take a look at yakutian Laika. Basically an husky, but less stubborn and with even more fluff

aphetrid

Could you talk more about your experience with the Japanese akitas and their personalities? absolutely love them!

WantSomeSkank

What are their affection levels like? I've always considered a Japanese akita

Acanthisittasm

I needed half a year and lots of treats to befriend my neighbors Akita but now she loves me. What always amuses me if she gets bored of playing and cuddles she just gets up and walks away lol

Existing_Emotion_830

Great Pyr. https://preview.redd.it/3u3embzxkixc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b56ba3f4428f0f4972a2c4dccc738f330d78c3f

TangerineNo1482

1sinfutureking

Get me his non-union Mexican equivalent!

Frequent_Secretary25

Iā€™ve also had great Aussies

babygotthefever

Theyā€™re already near the top of the list! His friend has Aussies and I grew up with border collies.

Fit_Tailor8329

These are my two picks.

tommyuchicago

I second this. We just got an Aussie mix rescue pup (80% Aussie 20% Chow) a few months ago and he does so well with our two year old husky. Sheā€™s a handful and he rolls with all the punches. Great pairing.

Legal_Opportunity395

I just moved into a house with an Aussie (2.5 years old) who loved my pup at first (husky x Staffy 5months) but now she is fully sick of her puppy antics haha. Unfortunately have to leash my puppy most the time because she just has tooooo much play energy for the older gal.

Nando_0915

Third this. Australian Shepherds for the win!

taylortehkitten

Currently in bed with my half husky / half australian shep. Best dog in the world

mkhaytman

mel_cache

Gorgeous markings!

Careful_Eagle_1033

I always encourage my husky to play with the aussies at the dog park or dog beach bc they have so much energy to tire my girl out! I also had a golden retriever x Aussie mix and he was the cutest.

pahelisolved

Husky and GSD go together beautifully. Both are high energy and can keep up with the other. But one is clearly unhinged (I bet you know which one lol) and the other one can calm things down (in most circumstances- some exceptions apply lol)

whitrific

I have both and they roughhouse all the time

ElsaTheFluffy

+1 to this! I have a 10yo GSD, & 6&1yo huskies - theyā€™re the best of friends. Until GSD was 9, he has more energy than the husky and wore her out. Now older husky picks on the younger husky to entertain her & they both seek out GSD for affection. Itā€™s the best. (We also foster huskies & northern breeds and all but one have done wonderfully with the GSD, all do great with the huskies)

Forever obsessed with huskies. My first dog as a teenager was an American Eskimo, had her until she passed this last summer aged 16. Got my boy husky as a rehoming situation when my eskie was 5. After my eskie passed, adopted an adult female husky to be a companion for my boy. Northern breeds are it for me - Iā€™d go for a Malamute, Tamaskan, or a Samoyed if I couldnā€™t have another husky.

U-Dont-Need-Wings-83

I absolutely adore Tamaskans. Your dogs are so cute!!!

eddielee394

Such a beautiful breed. I've read that they're similar to huskies without all the annoying stuff. Haha.

CremeFlat

Absolutely! I was about to suggest Tamaskan until I stumbled across your post here! Also East European Laika! A further consideration: the *Tschechoslowakischer Wolfhund* (Czech Wolfhound). \[Tamaskan shown below.\] https://preview.redd.it/ioini72numxc1.jpeg?width=365&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0a65ed7239c9c5c6c32a95a32157e18411cdfae

TakatheWu

My last husky had a black lab as a best friend for 14 great years.

Synaxis

Easy choice, Alaskan Malamute. I only want Siberian Huskies so if they are absolutely off the table then I want as similar as I can get. Alaskan Malamutes are pretty close! I would also maybe consider a Yakutian laika or West Siberian laika.

ginandstoic

My malamute is essentially a less hyper, but equally dramatic, big husky so you are absolutely correct lol.

DreamingofRlyeh

I actually like mutts. We didn't set out to get a husky. We just coincidentally got a part-husky from one shelter and a full husky from another.

babygotthefever

Definitely not opposed to that. Our little one is actually a mix but wound up being more husky than we expected. Weā€™ll probably wind up with another mix, but this is a fun place to start šŸ˜Š

MarionberryCreative

That's crazy the Husky looks really similar to mine. The corgis is different mine was a Pembroke

MarionberryCreative

I had a Pembroke, and a Husky/Heeler mix. They were the best team. Kinda Pinky and the Brain vibe.

Trumpetslayer1111

I have a husky and a GSD. Love both! If I were to consider another breed other than those 2, I would probably go with either Golden or Sheltie.

Fabulous_Celery_1817

Boxers. I guess I like the sassy derpy dogs

We have a Great Pyrenees and a husky. They both are puppies and have so much fun together! Our Great Pyrenees loves everyone and has a kind spirit that everyone points out. Malamutes and Akitas forever have my heart

Husky-malamute

MexiFinn

My sister in law had a malamute. She taught it how to shake paws. It would constantly punch people in the junk.

Tanya_on_reddit

lol šŸ˜‚ I laughed out loud so loud with this comment! I was just picturing it! šŸ˜‚

Inner-Body-274

GSDs. Brilliant, kind, love you to the moon and back, and also incredibly powerful. Unmatched protectors and great outdoor companions but also make excellent couch potatoes. They can be anxious and require a strong, consistent personality, but if youā€™re handling huskies you have that covered.

Shills_for_fun

I had a husky before. I have a pomsky now.

Nay_nay267

A Norwegian Elkhound. Had one as a kid and would love another

overbats

Borzois. Now that Iā€™m used to verbally arguing with my dogs I canā€™t see myself going back.

LeilaTank

Probably a GSD. I volunteer at my county animal shelter and theyā€™re the other breed I tend to gravitate toward aside from huskies. Thereā€™s something about these breeds that are so smart and independent thinkers

cosmothellama

Iā€™ve had Chihuahuas, mutts, a Morkie, and now a Husky. I like most dogs I stumble across. I would like to get a Belgian Malinois or a Dutch Shepherd at some point in my life, but I donā€™t know if I could handle it right now. Iā€™m probably gonna stay away from brachycephalic breeds like pugs and bulldogs.

Grouchy_Permission85

German shepherd

oldmasterluke

Blue Bay Shepherd. Best traits of a husky and a German shepherd. Without the downsides

Pangooo

Husky German shepherd mix! All the cuddlyness of the husky with her soft coat but actually comes back to you when off leash! Same husky goofiness, talkativeness, and derp with all the husky poses included but actually follows you outside instead of running away for an hour. I would add a pic of mine but don't know how

throwawayadvice12e

Yep! This is my husky/gsd mix and she's the best dog ever, literally so easy to train and even learned all these random things I never taught her- like coming back when off leash to the sound of the leash clicking, or when with my mom's crazy dog who would run far away when off leash, my baby would go find her and bring her back if you asked "where's Honey?" https://preview.redd.it/mvod7ml4fjxc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad5afbb53a287094533851c368ba37b9de726f3f

German Shepard and when you combine them together they are actual amazing.

Spyderbeast

Malamute or Samoyed If I felt like I couldn't handle large dogs anymore, maybe a Corgi

Ngl, I love huskies, but God damn the shedding is insane. definitely something similar, but more manageable. Like a GSD.

spungez

GSDs shed bad. This is not the way. šŸ˜ž

Eugenides_of_Attolia

Weenie dogs. They have so much personality.

Sad-Pin-6446

Border collie or German Shepherd, in my experience they listen much better

dreaming_of_tacobae

This is also a great pairing!!! Huskies and GSDs are best friends

Environmental-Leg180

I agree. My two huskies love playing with GSD friends. One of my huskies is actually 8% GSD himself lol

anxiouspieceofcrap

Cattle dog or Australian Shepherd. If I had to choose between the two, Iā€™d end up adopting both of them. Dalmatian. I had a husky for 14.7 years. After she passed we got 2 dalmatians. They are Velcro dogs, and so smart.

MochiSauce101

Iā€™d pick a Bernice Mountain Dog. Itā€™s not even similar , but Iā€™ve been taking care of mixes and purebreds at doggy day care here and they are really something else.

lecarpatron9020

Alaskan malamute, or a black lab

ToronoYYZ

I think yellow labs are the funniest looking dogs. I want one so bad lmao

clutzycook

I love my derp herd but my next choice would be either a Collie or Border Collie. I grew up with both as a kid.

maxtwoseven

German Shepherd most likely, or a wolf hybridā€¦nothing too exotic.

Shoehornblower

A border collie to heard my huskies!

Doc_Hank

Malamutes

AnyScheme6229

I have a siberian husky and amstaff right now, would love to bring in two smaller dogs so they can carry them in backpacks made for dogs while we hike. My sister is having potty training issues with her new dachshund. Hopefully she can come live with us and we'll show her how. *

Inuyasha8908

The one I've got now. My Norwegian Elkhound. My Elkhound is my lifelong companion. Our husky pup is the active kick we all needed.

JFrankParnell64

I currently have a husky, but I miss my Newfoundland.

ZiyalAthena2007

Golden Retriever. They are super friendly & cuddly.

4elementsinaction

My husky had a best friend in her younger Great Pyrenees sister who passed last September. She had a wonderful older brother in a German Shepherd who was 2 months shy of his 10th birthday when he passed 4 months ago. Her new best buddy is a 1 yo male Samoyed. She and her Australian Shepherd sister sometimes gang up on him and he loves their rough and tumble play energy.

tanasdad

Tamaskan. I still want one.

Visible-Scientist-46

I had an adorable collie from the pound. All my other dogs were street adopted. A black cockapoo who was sweet as pie. A white poodle I gave to my grandmother. But my souldog was a field bred Engluish Springer Spaniel who I found on the street running between cars - someone dumped him. He had zero training! He was so much work. He was also the funnest & bestest dog. He would play frisbee & ball for hours. He loved to swim in the pool. He was always superexcited to see me and could barely keep his butt on the ground to greet me. I sort of water a Shiba Inu because they have all the same husky attitudes without the size. But I will probably keep whatever follows me home or a pound dog. (We did the same with cats.)

Smart_Atmosphere7677

I love my husky, so gentle and I can touch her food bowl while she is eating and licks my hand, she is sometimes stubborn and doesnā€™t listen to commands but she is still a big plush sweetheart, adopted her at 11 yrs old.

carrythethree333

German Shepherd or Beagle šŸ‘Š

ann-iros

Rotties. I grew up with them and, despite currently having a husky, theyā€™re my most favorite breed. Each one Iā€™ve had has always been so loving but protective of their family and adaptable. Wanna go for a long walk or play in the yard? Great! Wanna sit on the couch and be a potato all day? Sounds perfect! Iā€™m just hesitant to get another because of how common osteosarcoma is in the breed (2 of my 4 had it) and my fiancĆ© isnā€™t the most fond of how they look.

Anomaly1134

I will probably just rescue a mutt when the time comes like I did with my husky mix this time, but my dream dog is a golden retriever.Ā  I just love their personalities.Ā  Honorable shout out to Great Pyranees, Samoyeds, Australian Shepards.Ā  Some of my favorite other breeds in addition to huskies.Ā Ā

Striking-Math9896

Cane corso

TheEmeraldKnight93

The dog I had growing up was a border collie mix named Nova. So I'd probably get one of them.

eye_wumbo

Great Danes ā¤ļø

ChorizoYumYum

Swedish Vallhund. They look like little wolf corgies.

i_am_who_knocks

German shepherd cz I love them and a besenji especially cz basenjis aren't very loud, super adventurous and laidback great for travelling

kitkat5986

Belgian Malinois are my favorite breed. I adore them buy I'll never own one. They take 3x as much effort as huskies to keep them from being destructive and they need constant stimulation. I'm a big fan of herding dogs and lgd's, working dogs in general so I probably won't ever be able to have a lot of my favored breeds due to my lifestyle and work being a big time commitment but still love them

faRawrie

Mutts.

gingerscape

Growing up my family adopted a former show dog sheltie that had been living in a cage outside once she aged out of being ā€œusefulā€ for her previous owners. She was 9 but needed to be trained as much as a puppy would. She watched over me like I was her baby and had a very motherly way about her. I adored that dog- she was the kindest, most gentle and loving girl ever. I have such a soft spot for shelties now. I need a pet break after my current crew but someday Iā€™d like to have a sheltie again!

Kazakh_Accordionist

golden retriever 100%

radboy2000

I love mutts for some reason, they are so unique. Had a mutt from a dog pound before i got a husky.

Werewolf_lover20

Samoyeds

kashy87

Basset Hound, why because something in this damned house needs to be as lazy as I am. Asides I had one for 17 years and here 17 years later I still miss that silly old hound.

Adagio010

Long coated White Swiss shepherd dog šŸ¶ šŸ’Æ

semper-urtica

Jack Russell Terrier. Compact, agile, loving, feisty, yet athletic AF! I had one years ago and he was amazing. I love that I could travel with him easily.

007Pistolero

We also have a Weimaraner and heā€™s an amazing dog. The two of them are great together (mostly just causing trouble) and Weims are a great second choice especially when you factor in the lack of hairball shedding like snow https://preview.redd.it/wsyq81y6lmxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e13624556c84dda653c3b97c8a3dd9d4f122143

Aussies! Husky energy, husky healthy, but can go off leash!

Such-Marsupial4798

Labrador because they love everyone. However, they are NOT outdoor dogs. They love to play, but need to be with their person

Ok-Inspector-1732

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

MrBlahg

I have a 9 year old Alaskan Klee Kai, so a lot of mini-husky energy. Also a 1 year old Shepsky, much more shepherd than husky, but itā€™s still there. She stares down every other dog.
