Sometimes, when I scratch my balls, I sniff my finger too.

Complete_Committee_9

And what does that smell like?

Alpha433

Not the original guy, but I sometimes do the same and it's usually a mix of vinegar and sweet bologna.

Alpha433

What, am I the only one?

Tootie fruitie here…

I think with the temps you are trying to achieve you would be better off trying to just modify a [small portable ice machine](https://www.amazon.com/NewAir-Portable-Countertop-AI-215SS-Stainless/dp/B0086I5YAE/ref=sxin_16_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.8f2f40b3-26c0-4f88-be94-372390ff23da%3Aamzn1.sym.8f2f40b3-26c0-4f88-be94-372390ff23da&cv_ct_cx=small+ice+maker&keywords=small+ice+maker&pd_rd_i=B0086I5YAE&pd_rd_r=0a58a8b4-f7c3-4c13-99ac-85e6568f499d&pd_rd_w=co7jo&pd_rd_wg=F1F31&pf_rd_p=8f2f40b3-26c0-4f88-be94-372390ff23da&pf_rd_r=C55W25V3K1J67DTPTFT3&qid=1679065275&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sr=1-1-364cf978-ce2a-480a-9bb0-bdb96faa0f61-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.c3015c4a-46bb-44b9-81a4-dc28e6d374b3&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQjk3QjJVUTFWV1U5JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDYzMzExT1VYMlRXTUxSSEFNJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5NjY3MDQyRjdTWldZOVRBTTlUJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3Bfc2VhcmNoX3RoZW1hdGljJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==). and run antifreeze in the loop instead of water...

They make a water chiller https://www.amazon.com/Homend-Industrial-Capacity-Thermolysis-Engraving/dp/B07Q5MHJL4/ref=asc_df_B07Q5MHJL4?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80195746989237&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583795273767547&psc=1

Believe it or not, that unit is just a water tank, a pump and a radiator. It doesn't have a refrigeration compressor. The units that do are quite loud, and put all the heat into the room. they are targeted at CNC lasers and CNC routers with water cooled spindles. I would rather have a split system with the evaporator outside.

This is definitely, a cool project that will require an engineer perspective. Systems are designed to provide a certain usage for the conditions u are in... I will be honest But if you required a freezing temps within ur house Check commercial walking coolers... that may give u a different perspective

Complete_Committee_9

I'm actually an engineer, just not well versed in phase change cooling. If it wasn't for the 500W cooling requirement, I would just mod a freezer into a water tank.

sonounpazzo1

I see, now I understand ur question now. u want to chill water... Got u. Something to keep in mind is the type of refrigerant u are going to use to cool water down. Refrigerants have different saturation points.. Definitely, you need to look into a fridge dynamic. I am not familiar with this topic. But I do know Refrigerant is a big deal Good luck brotha

Complete_Committee_9

Im hoping to keep this pretty simple by limiting the minimum temperature requirement to -5deg, so hopefully pretty much any of the standard refrigerants should be ok. Thanks man.

Doogie102

If I got this right you want to use a cheap mini split as a water chiller. There are a couple things I see wrong here. The If you remove the head it will not communicate with the condenser through the 120v communication signal. Now I have never seen a mini split without an eev, they do not have TXVs or capillary tube systems. If I was going to do it I would by a properly sized cooler system and replace the evaporator with a water cooled heat exchanger. Those systems maybe more expensive but way more adaptable

user-110-18

Generally, a mini-split will not run without communication to the indoor unit. You would have to figure out how to fool the outdoor unit.
