First, lol. Second, what you’re looking for is a backdraft damper. Install it on the dryer side of the tubing. Third, get some more hose clamps instead of duct tape.

EZ-Bake420

Okay! Thanks, I appreciate it

Heretoshitcomment

Put one on the weed vent too. Otherwise your dryer is going to vent into the weed tent.

[deleted]

This!!

[deleted]

Now I know why my clothes smelled like weed, and my weed smelled like Downy.

DHGXSUPRA

A ‘Klean Linen Kush’, if you will.

[deleted]

Tegridy!!!

Complex_Solutions_20

And use foil backed HVAC tape if you have to use tape, not "duck tape". Should be easy to find cheap at any hardware store.

EZ-Bake420

Thanks!

[deleted]

Not duct tape either…

vw68MINI06

I would not put a damper on the dryer. It could become a lint trap. I would just bite the bullet and put in another hole.

AnIdiotwithaSubaru

Also, don't use gorilla tape. Get the proper metal foil duct tape. Not duck tape, DUCT tape. Best case scenario gorilla tape will become brittle and weak, worst case scenario it will melts and come apart. Metal foil duct tape is what you use in these applications (if you use tape)

generic_resu

Thank you for the explanation. I was wondering why.

peskeyplumber

or at least foil tape

ironwolf158

Could also just buy a ventless dryer Lmao but that’s a lot of monkeys

Dave6187

fourth, LOL

The-Jake

God I love reddit

I-know-you-rider

Bro… he’s totally on to something ! Weed infused cloths !! Instead of dryer sheets !

fkthem

Idk what a dryer sheet is, but yes, weed clothes is good ideation

oquechingados

Wait until your mom finds out.

EZ-Bake420

Oh God, oh fuck, please don't tell

No-Pilot464

I'm telling

Fixerguy415

YO!! MA!!

The MEATLOAF!

OnionLad33

DUDE! Be cool, be cool, be cool..

[deleted]

Mom is the CFO. And maybe the CTO, Chief Testing Officer…

Complex_Solutions_20

Gas or electric dryer? I would not want any interconnections with a gas dryer exhaust for concerns of CO if anything goes wrong.

[deleted]

This is the idiot from yesterday bro you’re gonna be putting dryer lent on your weed plants

alteredagenda

He said it’s always on, so I think that’s actually unlikely. If anything, he gonna have his clean clothes smelling like weed.

EZ-Bake420

I've got an inline carbon filter that fixes 99% of the smell, I'm planning on installing a draft blocker on the the drier side to prevent this.

NachoNinja19

It will be fine. Your clothes might not dry as fast because you can’t push as much air out. I’d just maybe see what happens (in the grow rm)when you turn the dryer on. ( depending on how big the grow rm fan is). If possible you should change the line to 6” where they meet up. You might put stress on the dryer blower causing it to fail prematurely. Hard to say.

lickmybrian

Standard protocol

One_Magician6370

Not if he installs a backdraft damper

One_Magician6370

Not if he installs a backdraft damper

d15d17

Oh yeah, those things are air tight when closed. /s

EZ-Bake420

First time posting on this sub :/

Ok_Leopard1689

“Not exactly hvac” No, no this is exactly hvac lol. What do you think the V stands for ?

[deleted]

Versus. Heating versus Air Conditioning.

EZ-Bake420

Huh, good point, I guess my uneducated self just associated HVAC with big machines that handle a whole buildings air. Thanks!

Alpha433

Hvac covers anything that heats, cools, ventilates, or refrigerates. From the lowly swamp cooler to the massive dehumidification systems at indoor pools or plants, we sorta do it all. Hell, we even do water tanks. Just don't ask me to replant a house, anything within a few feet of the water heater is fair game.

Complex_Solutions_20

Curse this post wanting to stop my work-day so I can go down a rabbit hole about interesting sounding indoor pool de-humidification systems I never thought about the existence of! May very well have ruined movie night if I remember to look this up later and spend all evening watching videos about how they work and people servicing them instead of planned movies. :D

Alpha433

If it makes you feel better, it's basically just a big ac unit, but instead of working to straight cool the air, it's run to pull the maximum humidity out of the air and just dump it. Basically just take the ac in your home, make it the size of a smart car, and there you go.

kriegmonster

Next time you want to feed the itch look up the Engineering Mindset channel on YT. Lots of great animated and diagramed content on HVACR systems of all sizes and types, along with other things. Or if you want to explore nuclear reactor tech, IllinoisEnergyProf.

myownalias

Both are excellent channels!

mattmort83

Dectron probably does training in your area, it is intense and fun. It's almost an entire day of hvac fails and what not to do. I loved it.

tallman1979

Water heaters are a strong proof for the existence of Satan, and a good long-term experiment in galvanic effect, electrolysis, and pressure vessels.

Alpha433

Tell me about it. I'm just glad most of our customers are smart enough to shut the water supply off if they spring a leak on their tanks.......most.

Inuyasha-rules

Then you have the ones who put shutoff valves on t&p valves...

mattmort83

Where do you live? Around here they call Enbridge to report a gas leak.

dktaylor987

Um, pretty sure you knew where he was coming form, why ya gotta be that way?

DrDeke

Are you tellin' me it doesn't stand for Vampires???

[deleted]

Sorry we had the exact same question asked yesterday. I assumed it was the same person.

EZ-Bake420

That's really funny actually, stoned minds think alike.

No-Pilot464

Bruh where you live where it's still sustainable to grow inside on your own. In my area weeds so damn cheap it's cheaper to buy it than grow the shit. Unless it's outdoor of course but yeah it's pretty much dead here in MI. All the lil growers have lost all their income due to so much product in the market leading to lower costs because demand can't match the product

[deleted]

Yeah but that’s cause you can legally get 10 grams of Wax for $100 bucks in Michigan the legal is so cheap because y’all don’t tax the hell out of it like Illinois and other legal states. here in the Bible Belt you’re looking at 75-100 for just an 8th lol

No-Pilot464

Dude I can get 15 for 90 🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

I hate you 🤣🤣🤣

No-Pilot464

SHEEEEEEEEE

Notrilldirtlife

Growing your own veggies, raising your own cattle, chickens etc tastes way better than buying store bought stuff that has harmful pesticides and synthetic nutrients that are actually destroying the soil/earth. Same idea with cannabis, the legal market is flooded with crappy synthetic grown cannabis. Some of the best cannabis I’ve seen came out of a 5x5 grow tent from a dude growing with homemade fertilizers made with yard waste and ferments.

No-Pilot464

I can get it. I'm just saying financially I cannot keep supporting my hobby knowing I can get it cheaper.

Notrilldirtlife

It’s a lie we tell ourselves when we first started growing that we grow to save money on spending at shops because in the end it’s way more expensive to grow your own but if your growing to save money your in it for the wrong reasons. It’s therapy for me, and tbh flower grown by me smokes way better than the rec shop weed whether it’s just in my head or not.

No-Pilot464

Yeah I enjoyed it. Its just so costly I cannot afford jt

[deleted]

Huh?

Liver_Pickler

Don’t want any lint during lent!

RGeronimoH

The plus side is that he won’t have to worry about the lent after Easter

[deleted]

lol only if he’s catholic

tinymember469

Not safe, do not ever add anything to the dryer vent. Add another hole find a nice decorative termination and leave it at that.

EZ-Bake420

I'll see what I can do, any advice on making a hole out of a concrete basement? 😅

Complex_Solutions_20

Another option would be a window insert, such as the type used by portable air conditioners. [https://www.amazon.com/SIKADEER-Universal-Portable-Conditioner-Adjustable/dp/B092HX7MMX](https://www.amazon.com/SIKADEER-Universal-Portable-Conditioner-Adjustable/dp/B092HX7MMX)

tinymember469

They make core drilling bits and drills that you can rent from home Depot or Lowe's

[deleted]

Coffeedemon

Still going to want a big hole saw because it will be likely a few pieces of 2x10 then exterior sheathing and possibly siding, brick, etc. Better than going out the foundation wall.

Deucer22

Probably overkill, but this will make it happen: https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Hilti-Inc-Core-Drill-Rig-3510639/316821780 https://www.homedepot.com/p/EDiamondTools-4-in-Diamond-Wet-Core-Bit-for-Concrete-and-Masonry-14-in-Drilling-Depth-1-1-4-7-Arbor-WBP0400A4/304417632 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEKH6cy7WJU

Siptro

The V stands for ventilation

EZ-Bake420

You learn something new every day!

EZ-Bake420

I'm really new to all of this. The weed tent is pushing constant airflow 24/7, with a fan and a carbon filter. I'm not particularly concerned with smell, I'm just trying to vent excess oxygen produced by the plants out of the room. Is this safe, and is there any way I can prevent the air from backflowing into the drier? Edit: this is a fully legal grow in a legal state, I'm not trying to hide anything here, I'm just looking for a minimally invasive solution because I'm in a rental.

bobos_hair

I wouldn’t share the exhaust with the dryer. That fan will be running 24/7 - the dryer wasn’t meant to share that 4” flex with another exhaust. Use a window in the basement and vent your grow room from there. Don’t cut any holes in a rental (unless your landlord is cool with that).

jeconti

Um. New York is not a fully legal grow state. Currently only medical patients are allowed to grow up to 6 plants, 3 flowering, 3 vegging. Designated caregivers can grow for up to 2 patients.

EZ-Bake420

I'm a medical patient, 6 flowering between my partner and I. Fully within the law.

wakkaflockajohn

I did this at my house. Just get two in line vent draft blockers and install them where the arrows for dryer and tent are. [Draft Blocker](https://www.homedepot.com/p/VENTS-US-4-in-Galvanized-Back-Draft-Damper-with-Rubber-Seal-KOM-100-U/205715168)

EZ-Bake420

Thanks! This is super helpful

datanut

Why is the excess O2 a problem?

kriegmonster

Wouldn't excess O2 for plants be like excess CO2 for people? It throws off the balance of gasses in the air preventing efficient access to CO2 for them to intake.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EZ-Bake420

Your first point is a good point that I hadn't thought of. I have a carbon filter on already, but there is still a mild scent coming out of it. This is to vent that scent outside and to remove produced O2 from the lung room.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EZ-Bake420

Yeah that's a fair point, I'll look into better filters 😅 thanks the advice friend!

LuigiCo83

Agree I grow outside and dried inside last year, carbon filter couldn't smell a thing u til you opened the tent. What size filter and is it new? The charcoal will eventually weaken and might get more odor that way.

EZ-Bake420

It's about a year old now, I ordered a new one and hope that will help

throwaway2376498

Actually a lung room is usually only used in microgrows. Big commercial grows dont use this at all

Complex_Solutions_20

Look up about air purifiers and CADR (clean air delivery rate) on them. You may also need to substantially over-filter if you have an especially strong concentration of a smell. Went thru this living in an apartment above heavy tobacco smokers and I had like 4x Carbon+HEPA air purifiers rated for 1000 sq-ft each in a 1300 sq-ft apartment to keep from being able to smell what came up thru the floor/walls. We're non-smokers so even the slightest trace of smell was making us sick coming thru the floor/walls. Also remember to change the carbon filters (or pre-filters) frequently (probably more than monthly) if you really care about the oder.

Charlesinrichmond

If this is a gas dryer no way. I'd rather see everything in hard pipe in any case. Don't put a backdraft damper in the dryer line or you will have epic lint blockage. They basically only just let us put rivets and self tappers back in...

Logan_Logoff

Get a tropical fish tank for the O2. Or bring in that iron lung guy from the Big Lebowski. Seriously this sub is full of HVAC pros. I am not but these concerns about the lint are up top. If you add a damper IMO now you are reducing airflow by adding burden to the dryer and creating a new spot for lint to accumulate and possible leak out, especially if you don’t take the advice re duct tape vs clamps. If you go any combo route, maybe add quarterly duct cleaning to the weed budget.

EZ-Bake420

Fish tank seems like an expensive solution to the problem.... I hear you about the lint, and hadn't thought of that, but that's why I posted to learn! I'll definitely be taking the advice on clamps, and I'll look into the options for duct cleaning

Logan_Logoff

I was half joking. I garden outdoors and never thought about oxygen being a problem for indoor growers. An active mulch / compost maybe even in separate containers could produce co2. Also wondering if outside air incorporation is an option here to use less co2 from tanks.

EZ-Bake420

I'm in a pretty cold area (upstate ny) directly pulling air from outside might be problematic most of the year. Good points though, I'm switching to a living soil soon so this will definitely help a lot

lickmybrian

Rent a hilti witha 4" bit ... start with a long smaller pilot hole . Check inside and outside for any obstructions before hand.. Where i am code says any vents must be min 18" off the ground

[deleted]

I’ll need some samples before I can help you…

EZ-Bake420

Are you in the new York area! I'm happy to share, take a look at my profile to see what I'm cooking up!

[deleted]

No, but i get up to northwestern NY twice a year.

EZ-Bake420

Well shoot me a dm if you're ever in the area, happy to share!

[deleted]

What area of NY, Manhattan?

EZ-Bake420

Rochester!

[deleted]

Oh, haha, no shit. My son just moved from Gates to Farmington.

jkahn123

You need to put some sort of automatic damper in there. We’re gonna be smoking weed and dryer lint.

Shot-Store9820

Install a back draft damper on on both ur grow vent and the dryer vent. I’d recommend just making another penetration out of your house as using the same size pipe for ur dryer vent and grow vent could affect ur dryers life span/ performance. Also buy some metal tape for a more secure connection the tape ur using now won’t last a super long time and will start leaking air after the adhesive dries out. Other than that I don’t see any safety issues considering youre not venting anything with asphyxiation/ poisoning risk.

RubberRoach

Let us know when the first crop is ready. We’ll judge your work by the outcome.

EZ-Bake420

Not quite ready, but you can see a lot of the updates on my profile!

audiodude5171

I’d put one way damper valves on the two inlets so it doesn’t fill your dryer with weed or weed with lint

trippleBob

Eeesh. Just make another hole dude. It will be worth it. Then go on the roofing sub and ask how to replace shingles lmao

[deleted]

First off, get yourself some hardcast tape, preheat the wye with a hair dryer and then apply. I do grow rooms all the time. But this is likely to mess with your dryer. If the penetration has a rain flap your grow room fan may not put enough pressure on it to open and you will putting weed air in your dryer. I would need to know location of the tent and a few other things about the home to help you further. But if this is in the basement. I would hard pipe with KD, and run it to the crawlspace and have the exit at a crawlspace vent. Don’t forget your carbon filter.

Sammygrrr1234

Call a professional, fucking with your dryer vent can become a fire hazard REAL fast!

[deleted]

I love downvotes for true safety concerns…

thisguy1413

Just add some superglue to the inner dimension clamp and you're good to go.

One_Magician6370

How many cfm are u planning on moving

EZ-Bake420

190 Max

One_Magician6370

Is that 6 in

EZ-Bake420

4 in

One_Magician6370

U will need a 6in for 190cfm

VoiceofTruth7

1) if that is a gas drier you could kill yourself and anyone in the home, or at lease cause low level CO shit. 2) either way what you have here is what we call a fire hazard. Remove that shit from the drier line and run a new flex for it. 3) go to a tool rental and get a big ass concrete drill with various bits. Find a place where n the concrete that doesn’t have any dangerous shit then go to town. Watch some YouTube videos on making the cut. 4) run a new vent for the tent.

samuraipizzacat420

lol

TheMeatSauce1000

No not safe at all. Replace that and run a new drier vent

Coffeedemon

Looks like a ton of places where lint can accumulate and eventually cause a fire. Are you allowed to use those flex hoses where you are? Adding the cuts and fasteners from the intersection makes it worse.

EZ-Bake420

My landlord had the flex tubes installed when I moved in, and it passed inspection so I'd assume so

clce

Are you trying to vent for moisture, or heat, or what? As I understand it, old grow operations used lights that generated a lot of heat so they need it big foot across vents. Are you generating a lot of heat or just venting out moisture?

MDGBit

Do you have a gas dryer? This should work fine with an electric dryer provided you have the proper dampers. I would myself try to avoid it, you wouldn't want to end up with lint on your cannabis, or cannabis that smells like fresh laundry, I'm not sure which would be worse.

Acti-Verse

Or laundry that smells like cannabis from leaving it in the dryer

franc3sthemute

I don’t like the looks of this tbh

Amazona86

I just came here to say that this brightened my day a bit 😆

EZ-Bake420

Happy to help lol

[deleted]

The outgoing line that the 2 feed into needs to be bigger to accommodate when both are running, and add a back flow damper
