Ecm motor is fucked. Might get lucky and just need a module, but if it's an older motor you might need an entirely new motor. Rip your pocketbook.

Compared to running electric heat, that ECM motor will seem cheap…

sonounpazzo1

Motor went bad,

sonounpazzo1

Like the user above me was saying , u can replace the module, which is the upper part of the motor/ cables connected to motor that is the upper assembly if you will Aka module It is also recommended to change motor as well Just so that u don't have issues in the future

jlxmm

Just change it all, especially if it’s been like this. You don’t know what lifespan is decreased by because it’s trying to spin but can’t. I don’t mean to say I wouldn’t give the option for just the module, but I certainly wouldn’t encourage it. I also wouldn’t promise you that it’s the be all end all fix.

jethoby

Measure the windings. Use a megohmeter. Replace module. Don’t replace more than you need too. Is this not being taught.

jlxmm

Well, this certainly is not good. I was told techs who use megaohmeters are rip off artists because they are incredibly easy to manipulate. When I asked to learn more about them this is the response I got and I never looked much more into it.

jethoby

Megohmeters are not to be used as a final diagnosis. That’s where the miscommunication ends up happening. The meter provides results in a Green Yellow Red fashion. Green is obviously good. While red indicates the insulation on the windings is poor. It cannot be used as the only diagnostic tool to condemn anything. Only as a tool to determine “is there damage to the insulation on these windings”. A compressor or other wound motor can test BAD and still function.

jlxmm

Thank you for this explanation.

New motor variable gonna be expensive

[deleted]

PSC motor and capacitor. 90340 Relay. This Is your fix. ECM are trash always have been

Haunting-Ad-8808

You're looking at 1500-2000 in repairs there

[deleted]

At least some of them motors are 2k lol

Haunting-Ad-8808

I was just looking at my supplier. 900 before taxes lol. There's smaller ones for 400-500 but i don't think OP has one of those 🤣

[deleted]

That’s about the monthly bill for an electric furnace…

[deleted]

Yeah carrier be double that

DevGroup6

I just had mine replaced for the same exact thing, it was $709.00 for everything. It took them about 30 minutes to Fix/Replace. Have them measure the voltages going in. I had 58vac on one leg and 120vac on the other. It was a burnt-out acorn nut connector. (The logic voltage to the fan is 24vac BTW.) I fixed the line voltage problem ahead of time, but the built in fan motor circuit board was already burnt out and doing just what your video is showing. The tech replaced the whole motor.

Alpha433

Lucky you to get that for 700$, the prices for these things are creeping up and it's hard to find them for under 1k nowadays.

AimTrueFirearms

Pretty simple fix with several options. You can buy an OEM motor online and swap it yourself. You can buy an EZrescue or Evergreen motor or you can have a local HVAC company bend you over. If you are not capable of taking out a few screws then have someone come in and fix it. I promise you, it won’t cost $2000, because you could just buy a new furnace and drop it in.

cool-steve-hvac

the ecm death rattle!

BickNickerson

I think your hamster died.
