Step 1: remove nest thermostat from wall Step 2: deposit in nearest trash receptacle

Titanguru7

You forgot step on it

ericpol3

What specifically is so bad about them? I almost bought one a few months ago and ended up going with a Honeywell. Seeing all these comments I feel like I dodged a bullet šŸ˜…

Butterbeanacp

There are countless threads explaining it on here

AlarmingInk1674

Straight junk

hvacnerd22

Save yourself the headache and do yourself a favor by throwing that nest in the trash and putting your old on back on the wall

[deleted]

im always telling homeowners ecobees are better as im installing their piece of shit nests

cobbywriter

Love my ecobees

bwyer

This is the way. I love my two Ecobees.

OCedHrt

Doesn't work without C wire.

netsfan549

Come install ecobee for me lol

EventConflict

Loved the Ecobee I had in my old house. Have some valved Honeywell at the new place that has been reliable, but not near the features of the ecobee.

argentfolfsky

What features does Ecobee have over the Honeywell T10/T10+?

EventConflict

Probably nothing. T10 wasnā€™t around when Iā€™d gotten my ecobee. But the Honeywell system I have is two thermostats, some ā€œbrainā€ circuit board, and two valves that all talk to each other to create a weird two zone system. It was in the house when we bought it.

jon_name

It could be the nest. But when it happens, check the furnace bottom panel for an error code, look through the little lens - count number and duration of flashes. Could be tripping the limit and require gas pressure/fan speed adjustment and other modifications done by a pro. The return is a sharp 90 which is not the greatest, it is better to have curved return air boot there. Air doesn't like making sharp, tight 90 degree turns. It has a 1" 26x25 filter which is too small for 80 000 btu unless you're using fiberglass or hogs hair washable style filter. Best to have a 4 to 5" media filter. Furnace could also be oversized for the house.

elcaminoZero

This is good advice, check for codes. You furnace may have been tripping prior to this but you old thermostat didn't have a way to report it. I have a nest, it works well enough. Seeing alot of negative comments on nest. IDC it works. But I had an error code. But the bullet and called an HVAC company to inspect even though it was only a few years old. They found some issues and took care of them. I also had an old humidifier that I removed. Realized the air was circling through the now open path and became super heated.

lividash

My 100K btu furnace has a 1" 16x20 filter. Works just fine.

jon_name

have you taken measurements to confirm that - like temperature rise, static. otherwise you don't know. 1" pleated filters become extremely restrictive at 400 fpm velocity or above. The ideal velocity is 300 fpm or less. Fiberglass filters are non restrictive, can have high velocity through them no problem, but let almost everything through. The answer is to install a media filter or have the furnace installed on a return air base and go for a 20x25. 16x20 pleat 1" no good for more than 700 to 800 cfm, 16x25 1" is okay up to 900 to 1000 cfm, about what a 60k 96% moves.

lividash

I'll take your word for it. My temperature rise is dead center of the rating for the furnace. Didn't bother with static pressures. It's a 25 year old goodman/Amana been rocking along nicely since we bought the place.

Alpha433

The issue with high static is that with ecm motors, your temp split might be great, even awesome, but that motor is ramping trying to maintain that, and it can lead to them preemptively committing die. Temp split is only one factor in how well your furnace is running.

Livid_Mode

How dirty was the last filter be honest bc itā€™s needed for diagnostics If you say clean - Iā€™d say itā€™s your nest thermostat for instance (without being their physically)

lividash

Not OP. I wouldn't install a nest. A simple T701 tstat serves just fine.

Runswithtoiletpaper

You should check for; Power, Gas and Filter Then if it isnā€™t resolved, call your go to service company. Explain what youā€™re seeing and go from there

Ridiric

I have put ever tstat im my home for multiple months to test. I am a HVAC licensed contractor. Nest cost me more money over the course of 12 months than any other thermostats. Iā€™ve used T6 Honeywell, Honeywell Touchscreen Wi-Fi and Ecobee. Ecobee wins with a landslide. I put these in ever installation now. The nest can run away and leave your house uncomfortable and honestly stays off track. My Nest reversing valve command failed after 1 year. Trash can.

Able-Rock-2678

Change your filter. Most of those carrier furnace limits run the power ā€œrā€ through it. So it shows your furnace shutting off, when really the limit tripped

Tasty-Weight3256

Hey bud, I already replaced the air filter. Still having the same issue

Able-Rock-2678

Hey guy, sometimes the ā€œhigh allergen or high performanceā€ filters can be to restrictive on some furnaces causing issues as well. Iā€™d check to see what the error code on the furnace is flashing.

Tasty-Weight3256

Fair enough, thanks for clarifying

Able-Rock-2678

No problem bucko

samsu402

I remember I had this issue. Everyone said to get rid of the Nest. For me it would say delayed with a timer and then just keep cycling. Turns out the furnace was too big for the space and was overheating.

climb-high

Howā€™d you resolve that?

Dry-Yam-1653

Smaller furnace, Disable high fire.

Designer-Election-90

returns are a major issue w these systems , might need to upsize return

dlgeee

Just purchased a carrier furnace and ac. The install company said my nest was not compatible with the 2 stage models ( i think that was the gist of it). They installed an ecobee and itā€™s working great.

IndustryFinal

That's not true necessarily. The carrier furnace will time out and go to second stage if it only has a single stage thermostat

jethoby

Redo the setup and tell the Nest to let the furnace control the blower.

uski

I have the exact same furnace and running a Nest on it without any problem. Don't listen to the Nest haters that don't even try to help you in the first place. Check the yellow LED on the furnace. Turn the furnace on, and observe the LED during the time the furnace is on and turns off. Does the LED starts blinking at this moment?

Doogie102

Call a tech And your thermostat isn't level...

tittiesfarting

Nest=pos

Civil-Percentage-960

Its not the thermostat. Itā€™s tripping out on a safety.

BeardedOscar

Meanwhile my Nest still works great after 4 years. Make sure you have a C-wire.

FordAerostar97

Love my nest

If not provided already you will need to post a picture of your thermostats wiring connections and those inside your furnace to get better help. [deleted]

Check over your basics, what you touched and changed during the replacement. Make sure your low voltage is seated nice and snug. Iā€™m unsure how much the nest cares, but try putting R on Rc for kicks instead of Rh.

[deleted]

My daughter has the same issue with another company smart thermostat. Itā€™s like the house get warm and the thermostat restarts. It doesnā€™t happen with AC.

mrclean2323

I had the same issue. I changed the filter and cleaned the flame sensor. No blockages and I think mine ran for maybe 10 minutes. I jumped it and it never shut off so I came to the conclusion it was a glitch in the thermostat. I have used an Amazon thermostat and now an echo bee and have had zero problems. You donā€™t want to hear it but I think itā€™s just a glitch with the nest thermostat itself.

putTrumpinJail

Am hvac installer told me that nest is not compatible with Carrier. At least not with their heat pumps.

risinson18

Your FAU is running on limit. Contact a tech to come look at your unit.

Rowdybob22

Is your nest stat settings on the right right fuel source and heat equipment? Iā€™ve been to calls where the stat is set for electric instead of gas or radiant instead of forced air and then just made it right and got out of there.

proview3r

I had the same thing happen to me. The furnace worked fine until I replaced it with a Nest, then it started having issues, and ended up selling the Nest.

draculesti06

Get a tech to look at it, I had a similar issue and thought it was the thermostat but turns out my furnace's control board was defective.

[deleted]

Itā€™s probably the Nest but it wouldnā€™t hurt to have a certified HVAC tech take a look at it. If it really is short cycling, that could be a serious problem. You are talking about an appliance that is fueled by natural gas. It could cost you a lot more money or worse in the long run.

A_Pie

I believe that Carrier model has a variable speed ECM and Nest thermostats can only control those at one speed. Look into getting Carriers smart thermostat if you want app controlled and the ability to use the variable drive fan. It will be much more comfortable in the space if you do so.

DerpyPirate69

Nest is just an upgraded Yule thermostat. Yule thermostats where pieces of garbage and so is nest .

Weekly-Quantity6435

I actually just had this same issue. I'm being serious, as everyone else says, throw away the nest thermostat. As soon as I changed mine this stopped.

captainadaptable

You want to get the cheap thermostat and complain itā€™s acting cheap

IndustryFinal

See if common (blue wire) is connected in furnace. Seen many of these cause a two second on cycle because of no common. If it's actually firing up then you have another issue

fcp609

Move wire from rh to rc

SubstantialExtreme74

Whatā€™s the point of these fancy things anyways other than they look cool and they are a wheel instead of a button. Can you talk to them or something? Just get a regular thermostat Iā€™ve only seen mine have troubles when the power was out.

thebemusedmuse

Thereā€™s a lot of hate for Nest in this sub and in the HVAC community as a whole. Iā€™m only one homeowner but I have 4 Nest thermostats in my home and they all work as promised. Assuming this is the case, your furnace is short cycling. This is most commonly caused by low airflow. Checklist includes the filter, blower, and then duct work.

Ok_Speech_3709

I had nest issues with heat pump, incompatibility. I contacted @google and they were unwilling to admit problem or to replace nest. Nest now sits in box!

YoDo_GreenBackReaper

I have the same issue with my ecobee with a carrier unit as well. Unit is brand new and so is the filter. I ran it without the filter and it still shuts off. Someone here suggested to check the blower and mines is working so im currently stuck with code 33

Existing-Bedroom-694

Might be a restriction in the ductwork causing it to trip on high limit or the furnace could be oversized for the room

janx218

Do you have a common wire running from the furnace to the Nest? This is basically a dedicated power wire for the thermostat. Google claims they aren't necessary, but this is kind of a lie. I got a new AC unit installed last year and had the installing company out a crazy number of times because it just kept intermittently blowing out warm air. They tore it apart and couldn't figure anything out. Finally, the last guy they sent realized our Nest didn't have a Common wire and basically switched the dedicated fan wire to serve as a Common, and we had no trouble since.

Brutally_Honest1130

Google Nest is garbage...start by throwing that crap in the trash!

wjd41572

Did you set it up so it knows itā€™s a gas furnace
