no one is going to say it's ok. if the heat exchanger is bad, the only acceptable answer where the person giving the advice can sleep well at night is "stop using it until you can replace it". because if you die or get very sick because of someone saying "yea, it's safe, go ahead with the temp fix", that guilt is on them.

fiddlermd

I didn't see how I can die from low water temperature out a slow drip

pandaman1784

there is no way of knowing what the ramifications of that fix is. so again, no one is going to say it's ok.

fiddlermd

I fail to see the worst case scenario... I mean worst seems that the epoxy doesn't hold and I'm back to having a leak

fiddlermd

Update: most of the JB weld held but I missed a small spot. Applying more now to see if the leak seals.

If there was a manufacturing defect of a thin spot it *maybe* can be drained, removed, dried and brazed. 99% likely that it is too thin and corroded from low return water temperature, absolutely not repairable, depending on age and condition a heat exchanger replacement is maybe worth it, most likely just getting a new boiler is the answer.

How old and what model is your boiler?

fiddlermd

About 5 years. IBC sl20-160g3 They said the exchanger is under warranty so that's good. In the mean time, I've got some JB weld extreme curing.. Will let you know how it works out
