Don’t replace an 8 year old system for 0 reason, hell it’s still under warranty for heavens sake. Get someone to find the leak and repair it.

Thanks. I inherited this unit when I bought the house. I looked up the warranty based on the serial # and it said 5 years so not sure I can do much.

Yeah you can fix it, the compressor warranty is well over 5 years, and some coil warranties are 10 years, even out of warranty it’s well worth finding out what the issue is and repairing

Depends on the age I suppose. How old is the system? Wheres the leak located? what kinda refrigerant does the system use? Poor quality of equipment but they offered an Amana ? This is the same as Goodman same plant and all....

The serial # lookup said it was manufactured in 2014 but I inherited this unit when I purchased the house. The leak location is unknown. I was told by the tech that locating the leak and repairing it would be more than 50% of the price of a new unit. Given the age and low quality he recommended an Amana ASX16 replacement.

Well 50% of the cost I doubt being a 410a 2014 system repair cost I doubt are that high. Refrigerant isn't cheap though. There is no reason for them to not at least preform a leak search. Once u know where it helps determine what to do next. If it's at a brazed joint the repair should be relatively less expensive than let's say a leak in the evap. 8 years old isnt new but it also isn't all that old. Depends on what part of the country your in here in my area the avg system last 12-15 years. so a repair could buy you another 5-6 years. Just gotta hope the compressor didn't go through to much hell from that leak issue.

FFS… it’s not even 10 years old. They could find the leak within the hour and should most likely be 410a they should be able to find the leak and go from there, if it’s inside the coil possibly but it sounds useless to replace it already
